Let me begin by saying you have the best design I have ever seen! Any comment I make is out of my ignorance and not any criticism of what you are doing. The front and the top of the cold frame would face towards the south, so the front and top of your cold frame are clear. Why is the back of the cold frame clear? I would have made the back of the cold frame and the two sides of the cold frame from wood covered in aluminum foil to reflect light and for additional insulation. What say you?

To open and close the door frame...you could make a half moon dial mounted at the top of the frame. Allow the half moon dial to be free enough to swivel it to the flat being down to open and allow the curved side down to keep closed. :)

Wow, excellent job. Very professional. I'm planning to build a similar size one to sit on top of my compost bin. Not quite a true hot bed, but hoping it will generate enough heat to make a difference. Using same material you did for my lid, but maybe double walled to trap more heat.

Love this! Why do you have the back (which I'm assuming will be facing north) with clear plastic? Wouldn't it be more efficient to have wood there instead? Why not have the sides also in clear plastic so that the early morning light from the east could begin to heat up the cold frame? Also, where are you located (northeast? Midatlantic? Midwest? Westcoast? Gulf coast?) and what planting zone are you in? All of this makes a difference because folks in the upper Midwest (zone 5) would have different needs that folks in the Southeast (zones 7-8). Thanks for the video! Appreciate it.

Just wondering why top lid has screws on top on the ridges and all others in the valley?
I enjoyed the video. I would like to do the same along the south foundation of my house. My only question would be the lip that was created on the top edge of the lid where the hinges are. Does that hold water and create premature rot and also allow water to seep into the box? I haven't seen many designs, so I'm not sure if that's something unavoidable.

I'm wondering what tools you may have used that are specifically for lefty's and how you would rate them.

The snips you used for cuttin your top glass were righty's.
I have a pair of green snips similar to the ones you used for cutting the top glass that cut from the other side. They come in a package and are marked "For left cuting".
How do you like that pocket hole machine ? Do you have to deal direct with Castle or do they have retailers ? Nice looking cold frame , that should last many years with the cedar .
It is a great machine. Has 2 routers mounted underneath. It is smoking fast and the screw angle makes assembly a breeze. Thanks for watching!

Why the screws on the lid had to go on the tops, and not to the valleys?
As the rain is draining it will flow in the valleys and can cause leakage.

What about the water hitting the top (back) board, then running down that 2" slope and into the crack between it and the lid (along the seam where you have the hinges) ?
I didn't think that would be a problem.

bad design; you should put glassing on E,S,W sides and on top; N side should be without glassing and preferably insulated; you did put glassing on N side which will cool the frame down; cold frames and green houses are about growing plants and using heat form the sun and not about playing with expensive tools and materials in the workshop
The cold frame is going up against a concrete wall which is it's north side. Blocks the wind and provides heat . Thanks for watching!
@@homesteadhandyman4481 HaHa I had the same question about the N wall, but would have stated it more civilly :) I know about how warm a concrete wall can get. Our south facing entry is just concrete stucco painted medium dark green and on a sunny day I can feel the heat radiating from it 3 ft away!
What cold zone are you in? I'm in 5a and getting ready to build a cold frame to keep my spinach, lettuce and carrots going into the winter.
