Hey Everyone! For those that have been asking, and those that were wondering if there are any, I have finally produced some plans for the Coldframe! They are available to purchase from my Etsy page here: georgemadethis.etsy.com/uk/listing/1714777387/how-to-make-a-mini-greenhouse-coldframe From 14/04/24-21/04/24 you can get 10% off the plans using the code 'PLANS10' - make sure you tag me on instagram @georgemadethis if you do end up building this! Thank you and happy making!
OMG I'm so excited!!🙌 I'm buying your plans now because you are my hero!!!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘😁😁😁 I've been wanting to build an indoor greenhouse for a couple years because all the premade ones (like the Ikea greenhouses) aren't deep enough. BUT I'm horrible at trying to figure out the actual PLANS! I usually just wing it when I build something and waste a lot of wood and it takes me months. 😂 But with your plans I totally do this and adjust where needed if I want. Thank you SOOO MUCH!
Hey! Thanks for watching the video! I’ve got plans available on Etsy if you want to build it. There’s a comment pinned at the top of the comments. It’s easy to build with simple hand tools too!
Looking at building one of these myself. I bought a small item similar from a high street store. Has a metal frame, I think three shelves and a plastic cover with two zips. Great at first but when the sun hit it for one summer, the plastic cover started to shrink slightly making the zips tricky to do up all the way because of how tight it is and it's also gone a bit brittle and in places, the plastic has started to crack. Looking at routing out a groove for the perspex to fit into rather than fitting strips of wood - only down side is replacing a panel if it gets broken :/
Newer ones I make I do route a groove to fit the panels in, yes it is a pain if a panel gets damaged but can just be unscrewed to replace. Using grooves does speed the building process up as well
Awesome video! I've been looking for ideas to build one of those myself and this is just what I needed. Could you explain a little more about the material you have used for the clear panels?
Hi, it’s called twinwall polycarbonate. It works really well for insulation. I’ve actually just made plans for this, the link is in the description if you want to check them out 🤙
Hi 👋 is there a reason why you left a cap on the back panel in the bottom? Aka didn't leave it flash with ground and only back one? Ps! Aswome video as I'll attempt to build one myself one tomorrow 🤞🫣
Thank you so much! I’ve actually just made plans for this if you want to build one yourself. The link is in the description if you want to check them out! 🤙
What size was the wood frame 2x2 or 4x2? And how thin did you cut the inlay wood for the window please, my partner made me one but he attached the perspex on the outside of the wood also I have a large gap between doors and the one side at the top that opens upwards 😪 I'm wanting too try and make one myself as love a challenge. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, I don’t remember but it would have only needed a light sanding. The timber I use for this is pre-treated. I just add on an outdoor furniture treatment from screwfix to be safe!
Great video, thanks for the design idea. You pulled it off! I didn't quite see the cleat part; is it basically thin battens either side of the plastic? What size wood did you use for the main frame?
Ahh no problem. Yes I just cut some 10x10mm strips to put on either side of the plastic. On newer ones I’ve made I’ve routed grooves to accept the plastic.
@@GeorgeMadeThis Thanks buddy. Routing and then sliding into position sounds like a great idea! Just subbed and keen for your next video mate. Any chance you could provide a link to the plastic? I'm based in the UK as well.
Great video and build! I was wondering, would you be willing to share approximate price for this project? I appreciate the difficulty, since most of your material would already live in your workshop, but I’m wondering if it’s more cost efficient for me to purchase a pre made :) I have the relevant tools and machinery already, tia
Thank you! I think it was around £100-150 for materials. Could be less if material prices are coming down slightly… I think you can buy one for £150 from shops but a lot of the reviews say they are quite flimsy… on newer ones I make, I route a groove in all the pieces to accept the polycarbonate, rather than cutting strips like I did in this initial one. It keeps the polycarbonate held a lot more firmly. Hope this helps!
@@GeorgeMadeThis thank you that’s great, I think I’ll buy this one I’ve found online for £80 and self adapt. Thanks once again, your one looks great quality so I know where to come to learn should mine break
@@chloethegreybuild8655 I've often wondered about the price of building it yourself vs bought and quickly realised after being asked to price up a couple items I've made for other people. Most popular item was the recycle bin storage unit. Didn't think of it when I made mine but after being asked to make it for others, I had to do some research. In short, turned out that although mine was expensive, I just could not compete with people who were making the same items regards to price. What I noticed in every case though was mine was much stronger. I refuse to skimp on quality of materials and joinery methods and that's mainly where it shone through. Items from competitors were using really low quality wood and the quality of build (mainly the joints) were nowhere near as good as mine. Just thought I'd share what I found out.
Could you be so kind to share with us those specs you got online ? Im trying to build one similar to yours but i need the lengths and dimensions of the wood so i can order it.
Hi, I eyeballed the angles for these bits so am afraid I don’t have this measurement. If you hold the piece up to the sides of where it has to go you can mark the angles on it that way and cut them how you see fit. Hope this helps!!
Hi, to do grooves in the timber you’ll need a router and router table. I go into more detail about the method I use in this video in the plans I’ve made. Link is in the description 🤙.
Hello George! I love your work. I think your very talented. A bit of advice though... please turn down your music. It's annoyingly loud and (to me) distracts from the video. Keep up the great work!
Is it possible to show how to make something like this with just ordinary hand tools, not all of us have a great workshop like yours. Just a simple DIY of putting things together would be great. Your talent is much more appreciated than that Noise or some would call it music.
WHY do people feel the drive to put music, often too loud and only to their taste in the video??? I quit this one because of that and noted to never watch George again. Probably no loss, but maybe this week's YT check is little less.
George is representing himself in this video so it would make sense to have music that appeals to him. You can always turn it down and use the subtitles. Good video, good music! Long live woodworking!!❤

Exactly what I was looking for
Do you have design drawings?
Hey! I’m glad you like it. I don’t have drawings I’m afraid. Maybe this is something I should look in to as a lot of people have asked.

Hi, it was smaller than that. Around 1x2 should do it! You can use 2x2 if you’d prefer but that may make it too bulky. Good luck!
Great video, could I ask what size timber you made the main structure out of please?
Thank you :). I think it was 2x1 treated timber or at least close to. Maybe 25x39mm?
Very simple yet still decent. Did you bother to sand it all at before applying a finish?

how much wood did you buy? what sizing?

hello, very nice your video;), and nice result.

Hey, so the wood I used is 38x25mm treated pine and the plastic is called Twinwall Polycarbonate. Hope this helps!!
@@GeorgeMadeThis thank you yes that help me, but I have another question that I have above, thank you
what is the thickness of your polycarbonate sheet in millimeters? thank you

can you please give us the size ? thanks

Are there plans/material list for this Mini Greenhouse?

What’s the best email to reach you at?
Send me an email at georgemadethis@yahoo.com.
💯👍👍
Is your timber sawn or PSE, could you use glass instead of plastic? Thanks.
The timber I use in this video is Roof Batten so I would say it’s sawn. Smoothed out quite easily with a quick sand. You could absolutely use glass!
@@GeorgeMadeThis Many thanks, in old money 1" x 1 1/2" I think. My builder's merchant seems to sell it in 3 plus metre lengths... dyed blue!
Hi what size are the ripped woods? 1.5x1.5?
Hi, the main frame of the coldframe is 38x20mm approximately and the bits of trim to hold the glazing in are about 10x10mm.
where is the cut sheet to build it?
I’m finally working on a set of plans so these will be available soon!
