So many owners get freaked out by Manufacturer's specs. Those specs are FOR their PROTECTION, for warranty and liability costs, not because of machine capability.

Saw an interesting tip on another channel. Find a cheap vacuum cleaner at the thrift store, anything wit a hose on it. Remove the dip stick, place the hose over the hole, turn on the vacuum. You'll little to no leakage out of any hose you disconnect that's got a return to the tank. If you disconnect a cylinder hose, you might lose whatever's in the cylinder, depending how full that side of the cylinder is and which way the port faces. The vacuum won't suck up any hydraulic fluid, but the negative pressure prevents leakage. Going to try that next time I change the filters on my L4701.

I did this when I performed the 100 hour service. It worked well!

Did anyone do this and notice a decrease in driving power? I added about 1.2 mm to my 2501 and while it definitely increased lift, it seemed to decrease power traveling, esp in high gear. Anyone else experience??

I could be mistaken, but this should not affect your HST functionality.

Justin neat design on that third function valve especially no electrical components necessary.👍TCT

Hey Justin. Firstly, I wanted to say I think you make great products/mods for our tractors. You do. But, I have to comment that you showed us how to increase the lift capacity but you didn't mention one of the most important aspects of this mod. The need for rear end ballast or counter-weight. These little sub and compact tractors are little work horses but when you increase the lift capacity beyond the MOE specs, on a tractor that weights shy of 1,500 lbs, the operator is in for a tragic surprise. Just a friendly note - new tractor owners don't have the experience/appreciation to understand the relationship between lift and rear end ballast. Your mod to increase lift capacity with no consideration of the need for rear end ballast is a recipe for a terribly bad scenario. Just a friendly suggestion to ensure you recognize this critical consideration in future videos. Cheers and thanks for the great products you design. Cheers!

Thanks Gord. I appreciate the compliments and feedback. With or without the 5% increase (which is still within factory spec as shown in the video), most loaders will lift the rear off the ground well before reaching their capacity without ballast. I have about 900 lbs of ballast in the video, which is just right. If a 5% increase affects your ballast, you don't have enough to begin with. Ballast is another topic that could be a longer video. This video was simply to show that although some people go crazy trying to get a machine to do well more than it is meant to, a small increase can be all you need.

You forget as well there is a weight limit on the front axle, it's listed in the loader manual.

@roberthale8407 Understood. As shown in the video, the pressure was set to 2300 PSI. The upper limit of the factory specification is 2340 PSI.

Ok, how about you let everybody know that they ought to leave their bushhog on the back while using their loader. This is a non-issue.

@jasonjackson6055 Bush hog for ballast? That is awesome if you are working in a big open space, but it is totally impractical when moving items within any structure.

    This is simply amazing.
Would doing this to my new L3302 void the warranty?

If you went above the pressure specification, I would assume so. If within the specification, I wouldn't think so. Thanks for watching!

Nice demonstration and information Justin.. Could you please show how & where to do that on your "new" L3560. Would love to add some list to my 6060. Still have some photos & suggestions to send you. Will soon. Be Well.

Did same to my JD 790. Shimmed and added about 400psi and made a big difference. Found out mine was low from the factory.

I have heard many stories that the JD790 was known to have front axle issues. Anybody out there happen to know if this is true. Being able to lift more weight would more than likely add insult to injury. My son in law has a JD 790 that has front axle work twice in 700 hours, otherwise a great tractor.

@@bobpursMessick’s did a good video on loader strength vs front axle ratings. He was surprised how little the front axles were rated on compact tractors. He factored in the weight of tractor plus loader plus how much ever weight is in bucket. He had a Kubota and a Deere for example. I always had concerns about that considering the front end takes the most abuse and is the weakest part of tractor. When tractor has a bucket full that it can barely pick up and tractor is teetering on that little axle, imagine the weight that axle is supporting. Even with ballast on the rear.

I worked for a Japanese company for 20 years working in microns, so it is habit and these shims are sold in metric thicknesses. This is a Japanese tractor, why would I convert a measurement that I understand? Thanks for watching!
