This is a great quilt pattern! I can't wait to try it--on my list. I see this as one for my almost teen grandson.
I love watching your podcasts. You make everything seem so simple.
Thanks for tuning in Brenda!
I bought a package of precuts that I think will be perfect for this quilt. Thanks so much for this tutorial. Now I know what I'll be doing with those strips.
We can't wait to see what you create, Deborah!
I made this for a gift - love the pattern! It was so easy to read and complete.
Oh l love it. The color combos are endless!
I'm so happy I ran across this. My son loves the red buffalo plaid and I will use this to make a quilt for him.
What a great Boy Scout Quilt. You could line it more if their going camping in the winter or in the mountains or just as you have made it for a regular campout. I bet the Scoutmasters would love them too! Great colors for any type of camping. Thank your friend for the pattern!Gale
Glad you enjoyed the tutorial, Gale! Hope you have fun making your Buffalo Plaid Quilt!
What a great quilt for a boy. Thanks for sharing the pattern and your tutorial!

Can't wait to see what you create, Gayle! Feel free to share a photo of your Buffalo Plaid Quilt with the Man Sewing Facebook or Instagram! :)
Will do!
I was just thinking about how to make a buffalo plaid table runner. This will work great. Thanks for all your fun and exciting sewing!!! Love it
Wow such an Amazing project Rob you always make every project so easy (smile)
Fantastic! Love the design and it is so unique! Thank you!
I'm gonna use this pattern for a Halloween quilt I want to make to my smaller grandson, Canek (10 months old). Thank you!!
Love! Already planning several of these in my mind! Thank you
Thanks a lot for your tutorial, you explain really well. I love the colors and the flannel backing ! 🌸🌸
About time someone did quilt without flowers and gusty sruff!
Love the Buffalo Plaid! I am always looking for quilt patterns and fabrics for boys and I LOVE this. Can't wait to try this out. Thanks as always, Rob! I just ordered the fabric from MSQC in Navy, Tan, and Green with a grey flannel back.
Hi Brandy! Thank you so much for tuning in! I'm so glad you are going to make this Buffalo Plaid Quilt! Cannot wait to see your creation!
I'll be making one! Thanks Rob!
Thanks Rob, you do this type of tutorial so well. Thanks for the really cool - er - warm quilt.
Haha! Thank you so much for tuning in, Norma!
Have to make one of these for my grandson. Thanks, Rob!
Love this, thank you, again, Rob!
Great tutorial!!!! I love your videos.
Thank you Rob. I love it.
Rocking the buffalo plaid! Such a wonderfully masculine quilt top with those nice "guy" colours. I'm trying to figure out if that buffalo plaid might look good incorporated with a wildlife panel I'm making into a quilt for an outdoors-y kind of guy. You have given me food for thought. Gotta say I probably never would have thought of piecing a buffalo plaid quilt top! Perhaps have been living under a rock :-) but there it is. Thanks for sharing this idea.
I hope you have lots of fun working on your project! Glad you enjoyed the tutorial, Deborah!
Great quilt. I put this on my 2 do list🤗
very cool as always, thanks Rob
Thank you for the great idea. Take care.
Great tutorial. Thanks for sharing!
Fab quilt idea, and I will be making this, but sadly the website you mentioned for the pattern no longer exists! If there is an alternative suggestion I will be happy to know it :)
Clever idea, thanks for sharing🙂
This pattern would make up nicely as a rag quilt
Great pattern thanks for the great tutorial
Love it! I can see it being done in patriotic colors. Eleanor Burns uses red thread for all of her sewing in order to see the stitches if you have to remove them.
3 yard quilt patterns
LOVE THIS ROB
I love Buffalo Plaid
Love this and it will be perfect for our farmhouse sofa. I've chosen a brick red, a funky peridot green, and a warm light brown for the plaid and the kale in the Shetland Flannel for the backing. This should help me greatly with my straight sewing and I bought a seam gauge to help me along. Thanks for a great tutorial and a quilt I feel confident to make.
That sounds like an awesome Buffalo Plaid Quilt in the making, Joyce! Feel free to share a photo of it with me on the Man Sewing Facebook page or Instagram! :)
I finally ordered my fabric + I will use a fun pannel with animals and sprinkle them around.
Where did you get the edge guide?
WOW TOTALLY COOL. IF I WOULD'NT OF SEEN IT MYSELF ON YO TUTORIAL, I WOULD'VE THOUGHT IT WAS A WHOLE CLOTH QUILT, 1 OF QUILTING STITCHES
Glad you enjoyed the tutorial, Deborah! I hope you have fun making your Buffalo Plaid Quilt!
Glad you enjoyed the tutorial, Deborah! Hope you have fun making your Buffalo Plaid Quilt! :)
I found and printed her tutorial years ago...wanting to make this for one of my sons! Now I will have to get the project rolling!
Shea's tutorial is awesome! If you have her directions, make sure to follow her outline. I use 5-inch strips on my tutorial and she used 6-inch strips. Can't wait to see what you create! :)
I love it thank you
Another great tutorial, thanks Rob. What flannel did you use on the back? A plain, check or print? Love your work. Thanks for all your fun tutorials.
Thank you for tuning in! Rob used the Shetland Flannel Kale (green) on the backing. You can purchase it here: www.missouriquiltco.com/shop/detail/69955/robert-kaufman/studio-rk/shetland-flannel-textured-chambray-kale-yardage
When I try to go to the empty bobbin sewing site is says I don't have permission or the free pattern show it is no longer available. How can I get this free pattern
Great video Rob! What is your favorite batting to make this quilt? I hate making a quilt and then it taking a bunch of washes to make it not so stiff! I appreciate any suggestions! Thanks!!!
Hi Dawn! I almost always use Hobbs 80/20 blend, but you could also use the 70/30 for some extra loft. Hope you enjoy making your Buffalo Plaid Quilt!
I've been a fan for sometime now. You always have great tutorials. I like the look and feel of flannel but I hesitate to use it. However I really like the buffalo quilt, so I think I'm going to give it a try. Do you suggest that the fabric be washed before piecing? Thank you for such great inspirations!!!
I personally don't prewash except for flannel unless i know the vendor. I went a local fabric store bought a generic flannel to make pjs. Since it was clothes i prewashed. I had greater than 10% shrinkage and had to go buy more fabric. If i would have used this on a quilt it would have had a terrible outcome. So now i prewash all flannel.
JulieReed why do you prewash the flannel?
Thank for your suggestions. Great idea to start with a small project to test the effect..
Is there any way to obtain this pattern, please? It’s no longer on the link provided.
Hello Rob....love your videos!! I love this buffalo plaid quilt...I'm going to try it..I'm a newbie quilter and this looks like a pattern I can do!!..question...did you use batting or just the flannel backing? Thanks
Hi Glenna! Thank you for tuning in! My Buffalo Plaid does have batting, but you can make yours without. Hope you have fun sewing this project!
HI Rob, another great tutorial, did you use batting as well as the flannel backing? Or was the flannel backing serving two roles?
Hi Jo-Anne! I used batting in addition to the flannel backing. Glad you enjoyed the tutorial! :)
Great masculine quilt. Could the whole quilt be made in flannel? Thanks for sharing.
Mary Kay Harman I love that idea!
It was all flannel
Hi Mary Kay! You could definitely make the entire quilt in flannel if you would like. Hope you enjoy making your Buffalo Plaid Quilt!
Just finding this video now but wondering if anyone has an updated link to the pattern!
I was wondering the same thing! I can't find this pattern anywhere
Hello! Do you prewash your flannels?
Hi Sue! I did not prewash the Shetland flannel for this project. Thanks for watching!
Question: I am trying to make this quilt in a black/green combination. Could you give me Kona Cotton suggestions for this combination? I have on hand a lot of Kona Cotton Pickle and Kona Cotton Bonsai - can one of these colors be used in combination of the black I also ordered? It is hard to see the true colors online. BTW, I did try to simply order the fabrics you used for this tutorial through MSQC and they are sold out.
How big is your finished quilt?
it says I don't have permission to enter emtybobbins??
nice easy and very manly
Anyone have the count foe squares? For a queen? How many of each color? I’m drawing a blank on my quilt math.
Where can we get this pattern now. Or similar one? Response please rob.

you say 5 inch strips but the pattern is 6 inch. Is this just your personal preference?
Pattern no longer available 🤔🤔
I'm slightly confused. The pattern states to make 6" cuts (assuming 6" squares) but you are cutting at 5" squares. Is that your own personal preference for this quilt?
Hi Lawrence! My apologies for the confusion. I used 5-inch strips to make this quilt, but the pattern calls for 6-inch. You can use whichever you would like, and feel free to experiment! I've seen some totally killer 10-inch block Buffalo Plaid Quilts. Whatever you decide, hope you have fun sewing!
Very nice but my OCD eyes automatically focused on the sides of your quilt ... one side dark , the other light ! Oh no he didn't ? LOL ... Your amazing, thanks
