Thanks for sharing your story with the PS3. I also have a backwards Compatible Model CECHA01. I purchased this console the first day the PS3 dropped back in 06. I think it was $600 US. I remember about a month before the warranty expired my PS3 ended up getting the YLOD. I send to SONY on a warranty claim and they send it back to me after about a month, fixed. Its been sitting in my closet ever since lol

depending on the year it might be a Sony Frankie, they did make Frankies which is how we know how to do it. although usually we see the Sony Frankies with stickers showing the repair was done in the 2010-2014 range.

Hello! nice video man, I am a firm lover of ps3's myself, I grew up off the ps3 instead of the xbox 360 as a kid, having the ps2 before I got my ps3 super slim. Today, I have a jailbroken modded ps3 fat (80 gig non backwards compat with a 1 tb ssd swap) and i have a passion for my ps3 and ps3's in general, I have a ps5 and i still play my ps3 more than that thing. I want to mod my ps3 to have the white case that was released later and if possible mixed with the chrome trim of the backwards compat versions for a clean white and chrome one of a kind ps3 build. I was wondering if you were willing to share the discord of these ps3 builders because I would love to learn a thing or two from them as well! in the future I also hope to expand my ps3 collection to have more modded ps3s as well (also want to mod my old ps2 thats on its way out with a full referb) (also subbed and liked! lol) Edit: My fat boy does still work lmao, I try to keep my ps3 in pristine condition, replacing the thermal paste at the same time once a year I would relace the thermal paste on my gaming pc.

Hey, when I saw the part in your video when the console start to overheat by playing a PS2 game. Same thing happened to me when I bought a 2nd hand PS3 (cecha01) it has Evilnat (jailbreak) and another plug in to mount games (ManaGunZ) from the HDD. I thought my PS3 was faulty or the chip PS2/PS1 chip was bad.
Yesterday I wanted to replace once again all the thermal paste and thermal pads but the same overheat problem was there and I thought, well this is really weird, surely the stupid jailbreak has something to do here.
I'm not 100% sure, but one thing is pretty true for me.
I tried with the only ps2 disc I have (FIFA2003) and no overheating.
Then I thought, well if I leave the disc inside and virtualy mount a PS2 game could that do the trick? I had that issue with my new 3ds Xl several years ago trying to play copy protected games like Zelda Spirit tracks
Then I mounted Silent Hill 2
And before I couldn't even pass the intro cutscene without the system overheating
Now I'm several hours in the game without problems.
Would be nice if you can check that out with your system and maybe my solution help someone else out there, I was searching this topic since I bought mine years ago and nothing, but your video inspired my to give it another go and I'm happy now to be able to play SH2 before it's remake release

check the settings for PS2, it could just be locking up for some reason, there was a setting that I had on one time and it just shut the PS3 off instantly as soon as I loaded a game from an app like ManaGunZ, try messing with the settings for PS2 upscaling and see if that fixes anything

The only issue I’d say is how darn loud the fan gets and I’m aware of the need to delid eventually, but the process is extremely risky and a wrong move could render the PS3 non functioning.

Had 2 PS3s die due to GPU failure. My A01 PS3 that I bought on eBay a few years ago shut off and got YLOD right after I put in a disc. Had to open it up to get the disc out. I ended up selling it (this was before I knew anything about Frankenstein mod). I still had my PS3 slim. What was really interesting was that it also suffered GPU failure as well. It would freeze and show artifacts on the screen. Tried both AV and HDMI and got same results. I guess I just got unlucky. My best guess is maybe it’s because it was dropped when my sibling fell off the skateboard while carrying it. But the system did continue to work for several more years after that so idk. Now I have a BO1 PS3, still works with its original 90nm GPU. When it finally dies, I know where to go for a Frankenstein mod.

Had mine since 2008. Worked great. Didn't turn it on for 5 years until last week and now have the YLOD. Dont know what caused this because it worked fine for years. Could sitting there without turning it on for all them years cause this?

    • @Nascar1243
      @Nascar1243  4 місяці тому

Yes it could technically get YLOD from sitting there, now it likely won’t be from the failing rsx unless you had rsx related issues before putting it in storage. It could be a failed cap or even a failed PSU. You’d have to do syscon diagnostics to figure out what’s wrong with the console and what’s causing your YLOD.

I've got the same model and I had the same issue, I fixed it my self by reflowing the GPU and adding a piece of metal unde the V shaped brackets that holds the heat sink to the CPU and GPU, it works fine for about a week now on stress games like The Last Of Us and God of war 3, I've set the fans to run faster to hold the temperatures under 65C° hope it holds for good 🤞

A reflow is essentially a band aid fix, you aligned the bumps in a defective chip temporarily but as soon as the RSX hits 70c it will fail again.
