Installing a turbo blow off plate on a PT Cruiser, SRT 4 & some Hyundai models

- Easy blow off plate installation (***this is not a blow off valve***). This plate is to release the pressure into the atmosphere instead or recirculating it back into the turbo. It will not affect performance or cause a check engine light. You may find yourself using more fuel if you're constantly stepping on it to release and hear the sound. I bought mine from Blackpath Racing through eBay and shipping was prompt and item as described. The sound is more of a mist or spray sound and not so much a woosh blow off valve boost release sound if that makes any sense. You'll hear it in my video. This same plate is used on some Hyundai models with turbo but it's obviously positioned differently. Use the same idea and installation method and you should be good to go. Price was under $30 with free shipping.

@@luiselmilusos7625 I love the PT GT loophole! I'm installing a catch can in mine later this evening. My only real advise on these cars is to make sure you run premium and full synthetic, though I'm quite sure you already know this. Turbo care on this is important. For sure you want to replace the OEM oil line. It has poor shielding and they tend to have a lot of coking problems.

Good video .... I had a boost leak coming form the blue plate and I just notice the owner before me, put the gasket in the wrong side 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️

Hola Hector. Gracias por tus palabras. Debes tapar la salida original con una placa de metal para que no haya fuga. Has de cuenta que esta placa azul que yo usé, la instalas con lo sólido hacia la medida luna para que ya no pase aire. La línea de vacío que está conectada en la válvula original la vas a usar en la válvula de alivio externa..
@@luiselmilusos7625 gracias por contestar. Lo q sucede es que elimine el sistema de selenoide de fábrica. Instale una perilla ajustable. Instale una BOV EXTERNA. Pero la que trae de fábrica aún está ahí instalada. No consigo que levante más de 8 libras y viendo tus videos he llegado a pensar que es puede ser la válvula de fábrica !! Que opinas !!??? Btw. La BOV de fábrica. Le puse un tapón donde va la línea !! Pero no se si aún con el tapón es posible que pierda boost!!!
Very helpful and nicely explained video! One question...I saw on another video, someone went from under the car to get that bottom/back bolt off...in your opinion which is easier?
AR Drummer, Thank you. I haven't tried it from under the car but there is room to get to it as well. The way I did it keeps you from having to creep under the car and you don't really get dirty.
Make it even easier and get it from underneath 😉

Hey I live in California with a Pt Cruiser 2.4 L T, and I wanted to install this on my cruiser but I was worried about passing smog. Do you think this will have any affect?
Hi Clark Park. No difference and no issues with smog. All this does is divert air pressure into the atmosphere instead of back into the system as factory has it.

Just bought my first gt pt. What’s the difference between and blow off plate and blow off valve.
Mine has a big canister looking valve up front. ? FYI. First turbo I’ve ever owned don’t know much about them
Go with a blow off valve instead. This plate will bore you fast and the sound is similar to a bus at the bus stop when it releases air. No actual performance gain but you don't need the blow off valve either in reality, it just sounds great. I am finally getting my 3" 02 housing today from Modern Performance and I'll be changing it as well as installing my Injen 3" downpipe and finishing off the 3" exhaust. I'm gonna take advantage and change out my oil cooler line since I'll have plenty of room. I'm planning to do a video for you guys. Modern Performance is gonna release an aluminum intercooler pipe in October. I'll be getting that as soon as it's available.

Hi. Vacuum lines stay the same. All the plate will do is separate the diaphragm from the turbo housing.
If I have my pt Cruiser tune already it won't need a retune if I put the bov??
Not really needed. Usually recommended when you upgrade bigger items. Did you tune it or did someone tune it?
Im scared of snapping the bolts when taking the old bolts off.... super worried
Go slow. Spray a lot of lubricant. Rock back and forth ad you tighten and loosen. You'll actually feel as it makes its way out. Don't force it. Just go back and forth between loosening and tightening. Take your time. Chances are the nut won't come off but rather, you'll actually end up taking out the stud.
Im going to start lubricating tomorrow every day to Saturday morning doing it with out turning the pt on so its beyond cold i have ratchet Cresents like u advise
@@josepholiva4260 the bolts are very short and once they break torque, very easy to take off. If they are rusty, you'll want to be careful.

Did you have any boost leaks after the install? Was told you should use copper sealant on the gasket before install..
No leaks while on stock setup but I took it off once I went 3" full exhaust from o2 outlet back and had it custom tuned. The boost is so much, I lost pressure through this blow off plate so I had to remove it.

Dam I just installed mine, I'm on a tune from MI TUNING. Stage 2 injectors and Full 3 inch and 02 housing too..
@@ellopezloft he tuned mine as well and when I got on it, I could hear the boost escaping through the plate. It still had lots of power. Are you getting drone from the 3" exhaust? I've got MP 3" o2 outlet to SRT4 Injen 3" catless downpipe to 3" piping after that. I'm working on upgrading the intercooler piping and Port & Polish.

I think I will have to use some copper spray to seal it. Maybe now I see why people recommended that. Then I will do a boost leak test. If it still leaks then I will remove it and leave it stock until hands on an HKS bov.
@@ellopezloft you can find HKS BOV pretty cheap. I've seen several in the $50 range on Offer Up and Facebook Marketplace. Mine didn't leak but pressure was releasing (pss, pss, pss, pss) as I got on it like pulsating noise until the boost was done. I didn't like it and Mario was in the car with me after the tune so he suggested to get rid of it.
This is illegal in California? Won't pass smogs either, am I correct?
this is not really a modification, it's a plate that diverts the sound out into the air rather than throwing it back into the turbo. in many cases depending on where the turbo is located, it's not even visible. If this was an actual blow off valve, you would have to check with your state to make sure it's legal.

Yes. All stock as of now. I just bought the srt 3" Injen downpipe and I'm waiting on the 3" outlet. I will swap those out along with my oil line in an upcoming video.
So my gasket was misplaced and I don’t have a gasket for it. I was wondering if i could install it with out it? And what are the outcomes
