The PT Cruiser is "retro" style car, reminiscent of 1930s automobiles. Anyone who appreciates the styling of classic cars will value the styling of the PT Cruiser. I have an '05 PT Cruiser convertible, and I love it! It got me over my motorcycle withdrawal. I stopped riding motorcycles after 40 years of riding (I had my first accident in 2018... I was sitting at a stop sign at a highway, and some idiot, focused on his phone, turned the corner short and plowed right into me). I rode motorcycles for the "fresh air" experience, and a convertible is even better than a motorcycle. Instead of suffocating in a helmet and leather jacket, I can enjoy the breeze. And another thing: this car handles like a sports car. I don't know if its because of the low center of gravity (being a convertible), or because of the fact that I put a set of Michelin tires on it... or both. And no, my model does not have "grab handles".
Ironic buy my wife a 05 GT convertible this weekend . Same here 38 years on street bike quit riding not me idiots on phones and friends missing body parts. I've had rag tops before but still had a motorcycle hoping her car fill the gap for me too.
Grab handles went on 2006 model year and forward. I like the grab bar. AND YES SOME CARS OF YESTERDAY had grab bars - one being the 1962/1963 thunderbird convertible ROADSTER. The grab bar was one of the distinctive characteristics of the tbird roadster model.
I have a 2002 Limited edition. It's a red woodie. Bought it new, chromed out the grill, added other extra chrome, and a dog hood ornament. It only has about 29,000 miles on it and I've kept it garaged, so it looks pretty new. It's been a very good vehicle! No mechanical problems at all, but then again, it hasn't been driven much (for its age). Hard to believe it's now 20 years old!
I have a 2003 PT Cruiser in great condition that I bought recently (March 2024) and I LOVE it! It has a reliable 2.4L four cylinder engine and a five speed manual transmission. It has very high mileage, which I don't consider a drawback. It means, to me, that it has been well maintained and will last me a long time, too. It came with a cigarette lighter! I thought they were all gone by 2003. It is a VERY practical car. I bought it as a spare vehicle for when our daily drivers are in the shop. I didn't pay much for it, and because it is 21 years old, it costs next to nothing to register and insure.
I had a 2007 pt cruiser touring edition... Its been the besst smooth riding car... But i had to sell it cause of that poor mpg.... Gas prices here in mexico are too high... If it had a good mpg id never would"ve sold the pt cruiser...
I've had mine for 16 years and its been great. Very unique and practical, and parts are easily available. The turbo models are especially fun to drive, and like the one you have here, convertible models offered their own touch.

I’ve always wanted a 2005 Chrysler PT cruiser convertible touring turbo. Finally, my boyfriend bought it for me for my birthday 2023. I’m the second owner. It’s in great condition low miles. It’s very fun and I love everything about it. Especially having the control for the windows are in the middle up in the front. I love it I don’t like how people mess with the window switch on the doors. I like to be in control. I just love everything about it. It’s a good experience. This is my first time. I really would like people to give it a chance. It would be awesome if Chrysler could bring it back.
Ugly?…. I would say “ uniquely attractive “. One of the more comfortable cars I’ve owned. Easy entry and exit. Great all around vision (no blind spots ). I have owned two PT Cruisers and actually prefer the older model 00-05. I rather enjoyed your review.
I am NOT a Doug Demuro fan AT ALL. His talking gets on my nerves, as if he's trying to think of the rest of his sentence as he speaks. That being said, I LOVE my Cruiser. It has 170k miles on it so far. I'm gonna double that, I hope. It is reliable, and if given regular maintenance, it last for my grandkids (when that day ever comes). My car is an '08, a turbo, and can kick some butt when I push the gas!😊
The convertible has a different angle on the windshield and the back of the top, changing the silhouette. The grab bar is actually handy. The simple interior layout is actually a plus. The trunk sucks in actual use. Suspension parts are super cheap. The folding seats are not hard to release, but they do not fold down very flat. I'm in my 60's and we love the convertible for cruising. We also love that the doors come up high on the sides to protect from side impacts. Our old convertible was T-boned by a Harley. The convertible top cover is 600 new and 250 used, don't mess with it!
I love pt cruisers. I just personally hate the convertible style. Try driving a gt version. 250hp stock. Urs has 148hp. Idk if urs has the abs and traction control. Or the autostick option. Or the upgraded stereo with sub option. Ps. The gt is the better version of the srt4 neon.
The Pontiac Aztec was bad, the Nissan Leaf however, is the ugliest modern car, until the CyberJunk. The 61 Dodge Dart is one of the worst. A PT Cruiser is a great looking car, but not that convertible, it is horrible. The engine in the PT however is under powered, yet it gets poor mpg. Maybe the turbo is ok, I don't know.
I used to have an AMC Pacer...now that was fugly. I just found a really nice 2005 PT GT convert and have had other PT's. I got the PT convert home and fixed in 30 minutes, it had a bad throttle sensor and I replaced and calibrated the new sensor fairly quickly. It needs a better front seat is all. Happy Trails ahead.
The top cover was missing on ours and the sun has destroyed the headliner (while folded back). Oh, the back seats don't just flop down when you pull the release. It unlocks them and you go up and flip them down by hand. Fiat destroyed the PT Cruiser when they took over. Our Touring Turbo PT is awesome!
How good was the roll over crash test rating? It has that big wide roll over bar make it look like very roll over worthy. So many convertibles don't have any roll over bars, whenever I saw one I immediately thought of getting my head crushed into my chest if I drove one :)
Look I live this car. I have 03 PT Gt. The turbo is fast compared to the regular one. 150hp for base and turbo is 230hp. It's sad that Chrysler put in cheap parts but I replaced the ones they put in. I have 139,000 on mine and it's still running great. It has an SRT 4 engine and the transmission is perfect for this engine. A Getrag. I feel like your driving a go cart. And love the review. Keep them coming. Doug demuro is annoying as f@&k. And once they changed the design after 05. It didn't have the same look inside and out. So. Hey it sold 1.2 million cars for 10 year. I have the one with the factory flames. Which PT cruiser is the only car to have factory flames in history.
I like the facelift it got and I think it looks better than the original Before 2006. I wish they would have gave the facelift version a updated interior cause new car new looks Not just on the outside
I personally love the design. But as a mechanic they are very trash and cost a lot to fix. However I love this car so much. Everytime i see one I just think it looks clean
I own one and my father has one also is great condition. The one I drive is my daily driver a 07 I reduced it to all black wheels tint the glass and keep the same blue as the one on the video and it's what you see. Basically it gets you from A to B easily. To work on sucks bc no space at all under the hood for repairs. But easy to drive small to easy to find parking spots I live LA area so parking space has to be taken to account. Just needs Bluetooth enabled stereo or some type of set up for that and your good to go. Not for picking up girls though, not a chick magnetic. But it's suppose to be a modern hot rod style body that's why it looks the way it does. Retro.
no its not a good car their unreliable my grandpa used to own a ram charger there the same in quality while he was leaving the grocery store the front right wheel started rattling then he goes to a nearby dealer ship and the wheel flies off so hes wrong

One thing I love about my Convertible is that it has the factory turbocharged engine and has some decent pick up compared to the NA equivalent.

I have a 2005…. The installation of the boot is pretty obvious. You tuck the lip under the trim first, THEN snap the two sides.
