Hi mate, I just want to say, thanks heaps. Your the only one I could find that explains this without the use of an interface. Because like you say, the aftermarket android units that have learn ability, can connect to the steering controls without the interface. Great video mate. This worked on my 2008 mazda atenza. Your Video Helped Me So Much!!! I Could Not Figure This Out For The Life Of Me. I've Got A 04 Monte Carlo. The Way Its Wired Is 12V Gets Sent To The Steering Wheel Switches And The Factory Radio Monitors The Ground Voltage Coming Out The Switches (aka Resistance) When The Radio Or A Steering Wheel Translator Is Installed You Will Not Be Able To Get The Radio To Learn It. You Need To Completely Isolate The Steering Wheel Control Wiring / Loop. Put Key 1 Where 12V Used To Be (make sure 12v no longer makes it to this wire). Then Ground The Steering Wheel Controls Signal That Used To Go To Radio. My Android Based Radio Actually Puts 3.3V For It's Key 1 And Key 2.

Thanks for breaking this down. I use the same adapter (for power) without having to cut up the nice clean wire bundle they provide. I have an ‘11 f250. Hopefully this fixes my issue.
Great video, however I’m sure it’s a cardinal sin to record videos vertically… haha

I am pretty upset that the young lady, that helped me at Crutchfield, told me I had to buy a $119.99 PAC RP4-FD11 just like the one you have. I even told her I was not using the oem amp I was installing my own. Nope got to have this one. It will not even hook into my Android stereo. I told her it was an Android...still need this one she said. Thank you for this video you made. I was very frustrated and it eased my mind a bit. I have a 2009 Escape. I have the PAC interface hooked up to the vehicle. I also found a diagram of the Premium Audio System and my wires are the same as yours. I hooked the yellow/gray wire to my Key1 wire and the ground was grounded like yours. I think the interface could maybe be interfering with the signal. I will keep the PAC interface because it actually let me keep the factory usb, chimes, cruise control etc... oh yeah when I press a button o. The steering wheel the light flashes on the interface. How did you bypass that? Thanks

I installed the interface in my 09 f150 in my steering wheel works fine the volume and change but media not work do I need to connect the kep1 cable too please help out

Hey man, thanks a lot for this info!
Confirmed to work (all buttons) on Fusion 2006 SEL.
In my case the stereo (Pioneer DMH-A4450BT) already came with 3 wires for steering wheel controls:
- Input 1
- Input 2
- Input GND
I did as you said with the only difference that I used this ground cable instead of the main one.
For those who have an adapter harness with no wires for pin 18 (key1) and 19 (ground); check if the adapter has a red cap;
this can be removed and you can rearrange the pins, mine came without pin 19 but several of the others were not going to be needed (look for the diagram) so I moved one and didn't need to tap the OEM harness.

Jesus, I was dicking around with the can bus protocol box that was included with my radio for like 2 hours only to find out here it's entirely unnecessary. Got it all working perfect now. 2006 Mercury Milan.

Thank you for the info i had half of it right i just didn’t have it grounded and i think it was causing my stereo to reset everytime i turned it on it looks like the issue is resolved ill check it in the morning to make sure tho

I have a 2012 Ford truck putting an aftermarket radio I don't have no blue and white or the gray steering wheel controls at my plug down there got other color but them so do you know if any place I can get a picture of my plug that's in my truck to find out which one I'm just steering wheel control

Maybe on yours but not on mine and probably many other Chinese built android radios . Unfortunately the one I'm installing doesn't have any installation instructions at all . No color codes or anything. Matter of fact , the writing on the wires are all in Chinese too .... with the exception of key 1, key 2, and the cam RCA'S. Everything is "plug and play" except for the steering wheel control wires !

I have sync I'm my truck and after swapping radios if I hit any of the sync buttons it turns off the radio and the push to talk activates. Any ideas on remapping them or disabling sync? I'm really stuck and can't find anything on it

Shouldn't matter ohm resistance is not set by polarity. As long if one is grounded and one goes to key1 or key2 it should work just fine.

Yes it shouldnt matter but it did on my 07 fusion. Try it one way if it doesnt work reverse the wires
