  • Mr. Rajesh Balpande, Co-founder, Bookmyshow.com takes us through the journey that made Bookmyshow what it is today. An idea can strike you anytime, while you are driving, watching TV or just sitting. An apple falling from a tree led to the discovery of laws of physics. Three friends who decided to apply the idea of online ticketing for movies in an era when movie tickets had to be booked at the theatre while standing in a queue. Ideating is the first stage. The next stage is the ability to take the risk. You have to risk everything behind that idea to make sure it gets through. Then you have to create a plan which includes estimating the market size and figuring out the demand & supply equilibrium of your offering. Set achievable milestones and end-goal. Then you need Proof of Concept. The test case needs to be executed in a controlled environment. Once that is done, the next phase is scaling up the organization. Real world situation may be different from the simulated environment. In the face of adversity, remember that it is essential to find opportunities even in such scenarios. Mr. Balpande cited the dot-com bubble burst where they decided to build platforms instead of retrenching people. This made them more efficient in terms of technology and go ahead in the learning curve. Persistence is the key to success, especially for entrepreneurs. Persistence stems from the strong belief in the idea even in cyclical industries. The key is to take an idea, live it, breathe it until it takes the shape of reality and the way to go forward is by doing what you love and enjoying every moment of the journey. He is a man with a maverick approach, the one who co-founded Bigtree Entertainment Pvt. Ltd the company that owns Book my Show. Rajesh sowed the seeds of BigTree with his partners Ashish Hemrajani and Parikshit Dar. He looked into the Finance and watered Book My Show into a name that is synonymous with events and bookings. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
