The M3 sound in Most Wanted and Carbon is some of the best sound design in a game I've ever seen, and it just became progressively worse; they just gave up in Unbound. Gameplay, story and sound design just doesn't match up to what NFS used to be.

And Spider Man web swinging games were awful in the older games where the new ones do it almost perfectly. To me it just feels like the NFS games don't fully add up to what they used to be overall. The solid and best of this BMW M3 GTR is the gearbox straight cut gear. That gear has create a noise which sounds like a whine and it screams like insane. As you shift to high gear, it will become louder and nearly make my ear drum burst LOL. That is the reason why I like this vehicle.
In Need For Speed Pro Street there was an M3 GTR bodykit. If I'm not mistaken too, the M3 E46 from that game in stage 4 in that game's engine, had the same sound as the M3 GTR

Which means if they didn't stop to make the street legal BMW M3 E46 GTR, 14 of them would have been built already or more but it never happened anyway. The reason why BMW stopped to build more road versions of the BMW M3 E46 GTR is due to a change of rules for the 2002 ALMS Championship. BMW were meant to build 100 street legal BMW M3 E46 GTR and 1000 P60B40 V8 engines but they scrapped the street legal program because it was too expensive.

The fact they keep bringing back the M3 in future games just goes to show that NFS can't stand on its own feet. Blackbox Era, hell even Undercover, is better than most Criterion/Ghost Games NFS. Hot Pursuit 2010, Rivals, and Heat are the only ones that did well.

Heat and MW 2012 had the best sounding M3 for sure, because of the metallic tips for Heat and the sound system for MW. Unbound really has fallen behind in some aspects imo. the Charger, Silvia and Countach all sounded better in Heat
Most of these sounds that you mentioned are the same as NFS Heat just the sound processing is different. The Silvia S15 sound has been the same since NFS 2015 and the 1969 Charger uses the same sound sound from the Black Box era a.k.a. from NFS Carbon with some changes.

There's a special car in nfsmw called speedtest which is bmw m3 but it's carbon fiber and sound like ford mustang by default, fun fact that this car is having faster speed compared to razor's version of m3 gtr and better handling too.

mw12 has a good sound too, it may be the i6 but it still sounds really good, especially with the whine
