I like how in the first season, Joey hadn't been lobotomized yet!...he was never super smart but he had some semblance of intelligence here, they didn't have to explain to him that Chandler said too much!....he picked up on it with the rest of the group!
There were telltale signs, him asking if Ross is goint to China "the country?". Him not recognizing if they're still on topic with the comedian and ticket metaphors (kissing and s**), which was I believe as early as episode 2. There's plenty of times Joey's been portrayed as stupid even during season 1.

@@spencergsmith Yeah, sitcoms in general do manage to screw up majorly one way or another, given enough seasons.
@@unendingparadox1629 it's understandable. After that many seasons, writers tend to make characters more of a caricature of what they were in the beginning to keep them interesting, although I don't think that is necessary.

I feel that a way Chandler could’ve sidestepped the situation would be by saying that he brought up the Carol situation to showcase that Ross spends a lot of money on gifts, not to imply that Ross was in love with Rachel.

wouldn't work because Chandler specifically said that Ross spent this kind of money on the gift because he was in love. He never said Ross spends this much money on gifts in general, and that was what Rachel and others picked up right away.

laugh tracks can be cringe. Live studio audiences can be pretty good though precisely because you can get those stray reactions

Even in the 90s, 45 minutes to travel to the airport and catch someone on a plane before it leaves seems like an awfully short time.
I find it surprising that Monica of all people doesn’t seem to know about Ross’s crush on Rachel. Even if Ross didn’t tell her he still liked Rachel you would think she’d pick up on the signs lol
Chandler's only chance to worm his way out of this situation was to emphasize Ross bought expensive gifts for women he loved but distinguish between the romantic love he felt for Rachel and claim he felt platonic love toward Rachel, like a sister.
You can see Phoebe almost broke character while holding Ross's picture.

Rachel grew up *seeing* ross, and never loved him back until she *heard* he loved her, while ross didnt even really know Rachel but fell in love at first sight. The saying is practically an absolute.
You haven't proved anything. Your theory works both ways and must or it is mere sophistry. You could say Rachel never fell in love with anything he actually said and that Ross fell in love with everything he heard despite all appearances.
About all you have proven is that, under the right circumstances, Men or women will believe anything for love, which is exactly why love should be distrusted at all times.

What does it mean? Being alone with someone that ONLY acts like a proper "friend", with not a single hint of malice from him, should make me realize my friend is in love with me? Also, having a crush (10 years before, in highschool) and being in love are two VERY different things, unless you are 15yo or something.

Ross brought it to Monica when he was saying goodbye to the whole gang before going to China, so Monica could show it to Ben, so he wouldn't forget him, because Ben was just recently born during these episodes. I believe this scene was at the beginning of this episode.
