    Your narration and presentation of both facts and fiction is marvellous. People who watch your narration of history and the extension of fiction will naturally forget the extension of fiction. Like Bahubali1 and 2 I am sure PS1 and in future PS2 will take our Tamil cinema to a different level than it is now.

    Namaskaram Sri Sriram! Thank you for that. I have been sitting on the fence, wondering whether to see the film. Now I will. However... I have a doubt. Where's Manimegalai in PS 1? Have they removed the character altogether? That would be a pity!

    The film follows the book fairly closely in characterization, however it lacks the settings, artistry, architecture and soulful spiritual moorings for which Tamil history is known.

    Excellent Narration as usual packed with historic evidence and anecdotes, but was expecting you to analyze the story vs screenplay which has disappointed ardent ponniyin selvan novel fans , end of the day its PS not Ponniyin Selvan .

    Nice perspective and good guidance to look at 'works of art' like a film (with the inherent artistic liberties and commercial considerations), based on a dramatized faction (facts+fiction), which in turn may be broadly founded on available limited-sketchy history and anecdotes of a long bygone era! Instead of getting involved too much into the facts, we should enjoy a film and discuss it as a cinematic work of art at best: story, direction, cinematography, music, acting, etc. (remember Padmavati and the huge controversy around it?)

    truth always rests with the minority- said a great man once. I saw the PS 2 and as a movie it is amazing but the confused indians who still argue whether Ramayan & mahabharat is a fiction or history it is a crime to let the people to delude further in that way. Lot of respect for Mani ratnam Sir But..???????
    And thank you Sriram V

    A very good exposition. I expected some details about the murder of Aditya Karikalan especially when that event is now a raging matter in the social media in Chennai. Now that we know that Nandhini and Periya Pazuvetterier are fictional characters, the murder scenario at Kadambur palace , as detailed by Kalki in his novel was only his imagination . So who actually killed Karikalan and where it took place, still remains a mystery. Though Ravidasan and his brothers were actually the conspirators of the plot to
    murder, it is still not clear whether they actually perpetrated the crime. There is no evidence for it. In the circumstances, it is ridiculous on the part of some Brahmin- hating social media persons taking this opportunity to cast aspersions on Brahmin community by voicing that Brahmins killed Karikalan. How Karikalan ruthlessly beheaded the injured Pandyan King was no matter for them.

    In the film, Raja Raja Chozhan, to save Vanthiyathevan, swims around 150 meters, then climbs a ladder of around 50 feet to climb the ship. He could have been killed with one flow of sword as soon as he reaches the top of the ship. Don't understand why Raja Raja Chozhan was made to do that stupid thing in the film. Similarly Adithtya Karikalan gives an important task to Vanthiathevan of handing over message to Sundarachozhan. Vanthiathevan informs Sundarachozhan about the coup decided by Pazhuvettaraiyar in front of many maids. Aditha Karikalan has to be stupid to entrust such an important job to Vanthiathevan who is portrayed as a n9t do serious person to be a spy. The film has undermined the intelligence of Aditha Karikalan as well as Raja Raja Chozhan.

    Thanks Sriram. Enjoyed your commentary. Just a minor correction. You mentioned Nandini as a protagonist and said she was the main villain. So she should have been called the main antagonist, correct?

    • @subramaniannarayanan398
      @subramaniannarayanan398 2 роки тому

      In a way, Sriram mentioning Nandini protagonist is right. Because, she is most lovable all through the novel just by attraction of her beauty despite being antagonist as you mentioned. In this we may draw TR.Rajakumari of yesteryear films parallel to her.

    I am one amongst those who waited for Kalki magazine on Thursdays and read it in early 50s As such I could hardly believe that the main hero Vandiyathevan then Nandini Poonguzhaly , Tirumalai etc could be brought out in films With this intro I will try to get reconciled and go and see the film .I was all along thinking that Vandhiyathevan was the replica of Scott’s Quentin Durward and the astrologer in Kenilworth was the inspiration for Kudanthai Josyar etc I stand corrected Thank you sir

    Why did Kalki even though there was evidence completely blacked out ravidasan and company s Brahmin caste
    Kalki was a nationalist who championed Tamil cause
    I have read his article on various issues on madam community temple entry etc
    Why you also avoided to mention about this in your video

    Supposed to be a good PR work though it is so garnished with "history". In the initial lines itself it was exposed. The ", history" of director twisting to anti Hindu philosophy showed its ugly head in the film.
