"Mazda Factory's veteran Engineer, Mr. Uchitani shows how Rotary Engines are assembled. Amazing that each RE has been built by hand until 2003!"
Observing factory assembly of a rotary engine requires no language it is internationally and universally understood by those with the passion and interest in preserving and maintaining these eclectic and special power plants
Takashi Yamanouchi who is R&D director for Mazda, has said many times that for as long as he is alive and is working at Mazda, there will always be a rotary engine in development and will strive to keep it in production.
There has already been confirmed reports of a 16X being developed for basically "one last hurrah" at a rotary powered sports car, just with having the "taller" engine to increase overall stroke but having it thinner to keep weight down, they've increase torque outout by almost
REが大好きで、これを組みたいが為に自動車科へ行った。REの授業はじまった時は大興奮でしたが、機械化されたり作られなくなるのは寂しいな。

Out of all the rotary videos, this is by far one of my most favorite Wankel engine videos of all time. Actually seeing Mazda hand build the legendary heart of the RX-7 in their own factory is spectacular and showing the pride and commitment of the Wankel by viewing the Le Mans winning legend, the 787B, is just icing on the rotary cake. Hopefully, Mazda can solve the problems of their Wankel engines and then show us more videos of them hand building the engine for the RX-9. Keep the brap sound alive and the Wankel flag flying, Mazda. Zoom-Zoom!
That assembly is awsome
この映像は、さらばMAZDA RX-7のDVDの特典映像として収録されていましたね…。😁😅
Looks very professional.
fuck off
nutsackmania mate show some respect
Thank you VERY much for this video! I'd really love to see video of the RX-7 assembly plant, but my search effort has failed.

水素はロータリーエンジンと相性が良いらしいので
RX-じゃなくてもいいのでマツダさん作ってくれないかな
and they never had to file down the side seals...
thx mazda
yeah was wondering if they just edit out all the work. or they just have side seals with various lengths and they just try a few till they fit?
they just come already cut so they just slap it on and keep it moving. for us its probably the only difficult part when re-assembling the rotary cause not only for clearance from the apex seal but also maintaining the same angle while you file away.
Mazda precut the sideseals according to rotor letter..
how awesome is this vid thumbs up
Please we need more 12a and 13b...👍🙏☝️☝️
You need more 12a? A engine thats been out for production 25 plus years?
lovely video
So clean
Love this owned 3 Rx7z and a 8
Why didn't they offer the Rotary engine in the Miata chasis?
Wouldn't that have been a great combo?
blech71 MX5 RE Limited, id buy it
I've been asking that question since the Miata was born... Pocket Rocket. Tuners offer kits for the swap. It's a popular combo in SCCA. The Miata is the most raced car in the world.
The rx8 is a miata chassis.
Why would they. When the NA came out the FD3S was right around the corner, and without the engines the only major difference is a slight change in size.
Basically miata = affordability
And Rx7 = more power and brand rep
Because the rx7 is better
next gen rx-7.
what a cliffhanger to end on....
I have an fd and an nb. But I have to admit they way the same. The turbo II rear end is most preferred for both past 300-450hp. I guess if I didn't own an fd it would be great to see a rotary miata as an available product. I say DIY. But a miata make it happen. Our use the same amount of money and grab an fd since hard to its way more preferred than soft top
Mazda needs to sell all this machinery they use to build them up.
It was all scrapped back in 2013
LOL if this is really the stuff they used for their production line it wouldn't be hard to replicate, honestly. I bet what we see here is a rework/refurb line and not production.
There was nothing in this video you can’t do with your grandmas garden tools
i own an rx8, and i have no problems with the engine at all, if ONLY mazda can develop a rotary engine with good fuel economy, i think it would be great. Rotary engines are light weight, have fewer moving parts compared to a piston engine, and can produce high amount of HP even though it's very small, one huge drawback is the high fuel consumption :(
@tifosaurus from what i hear they are not stopping, cause they are working on the rx9 and its not a rumor
SUPER!
Save the Wankel indeed! The real problem is it is still far too "short stroked" The RX8 has a stroke of 1.2". By installing the rotor onto the E shaft in two stages - bearing assembly first then the outer, this could be easily be increased to 2" plus. Obviously the rotor and housing would be a larger "diameter" but it could be narrower thus making the "bore" smaller.
This would make a much more economical engine. You are the first person who seems to recognises this engine has a stroke! THANKS!
No one knows if it will be turbocharged or not, we'll have to see. But one thing is known, Mazda may use a future Miata platform or at least a variation of it
@tifosaurus recently i remember hearing that the rotor would be no more, but now mazda is talking about having a partnership with audi because they are working on a rotoy type electric hybrid and mazda thinks it will help them make a more eco friendly rotory, i thought the renesis was good enough but i guess not, and i hope prices don't go up since they want to have a partnership with audi.
they should make the next rotary a hybrid that can run in 'e-mode'....should make passing emissions a lot simpler
Mazda no longer manufactures Wankel engines... this plant was closed on June 22nd 2012
All hail the doktor
Rotary
No lube my guy?
I believe they will not stop the production of rotaries forever. They have invested a lot of money for it, plus they believe in it. There are technologies to make it pass even the most strict regulations. It is just the world economic situation that prohibits them from doing it now, but I do not think Mazda is an easy quiter!
This plant was shut down on June 22nd, 2012 and never restarted.. it was demolished to make way for Mazda successful new Skyactin-G engines
The real doktorbimmer thanks for sharing. that's about the time I got my brand new crate motor from Mazda. It may have been one of the last to come out of that factory. I specifically left the motor unopened without any porting, etc and 4 years later, the compression numbers are outstanding. 9.6-9.8 @224.
djf7 Its nice that some people are saving a few of these engines for historical sake... there is already a whole generation of people out there that is completely oblivious to the history of the Wankel engine, as if it never existed.

@vtecboi18 Good news!
It aint a motor if it aint a rotor. The wankel should stay alive forever!
too bad they don't because they are horrible
nutsackmania are they? Damn Ive owned dozens of them and still do, I mean I didnt have this valuable information you just freely gave, until now! I wasted my whole life, thank you so much.
So the 230Hp vesrion has already turbovhager built in?
That's an RX7 engine, a turbo was offered as factory installed
Its hard to believe this assembly plant no longer exists... it was demolished in 2013 to make way for a new Skyactiv-G assembly line..
:(
vtecboi18 Skyactiv-G has been a huge success for Mazda..very popular and profitable... sadly the same could not be said for the poor old Wankel..
i thought that sometime down the rode they were going to combine the two?
vtecboi18 No, Wankel engines are obsolete now...

The Renesis was not cheap at all, don't worry.Indeed there are thoughts to use wankel engines as range extenders in hybrid vehicles. However, you said that work on RX9 is ongoing on a previous post, now you say rotor would be nomore. What is the truth?
What engine was that at the end?
787b 4 rotor probably for the racecar next to it
It most deconstruction would have
Is this turbo?
well yeah, that would explain why they mounted a turbo.
Make spark plug hole in rotary piston a smalll slit five mm and the compression chamber just on the right of the piston ! Give me a car for my tip
Or make the spark plug spin around with the chamber like the Rotary version of the Wankel did...
Cool idea
No free car for u but heres a bag of doritos
@@chinchy111 they did change the way they built it in a smart way by bringing the exuasr out through the center of the crank which made the piston stay more equal hot on both sides of the piston
That technique At 4:18
I wish mine worked lol
