Great advice. Of course, he’s assuming you have a bit of theory and proficiency under your belt. In order to bring that story to life, you have to be intentional
As I writer, I couldn't agree more. I cannot imagine being in total control of my stories ... the characters come to life for me and more often than not, write themselves. I didn't learn this until later in life and struggled to control the story ... going long periods of time without writing or inspiration. Once I gave into the characters, it flowed like water. Tuomas is brilliant on many levels. Humility is the key to life, in my opinion. I think it's a shorter list of great things created by people without humility.
This feels like a universal advice for any kind of creative work. I can attest to it working for designing video games and my friend (an artist-illustrator) follows it for her non-paid work (because otherwise you have a list of requirements to fulfill...).
One of the greatest things about Nightwish is that each one of the band members is such a great, personable, humble, down-to-earth human being. You can see that inner beauty here as well as with any other member!

I like this direct to the fans on youtube format way better than the usual interviews from music journalists.
I disagree because they can skip-censor questions they might not like to answer :p
@@BassCommunion they can do that in reporter interviews too or decline to answer them. I've only seen a couple of interviews with Tuomas but it seems that he is a man who likes to take his time and think about his answers and so many interviewers are just in a rush and asking stupid questions half the time he doesn't look like he wants to answer because the question was so dense. Got more information and insight into the way he thinks in a format like this than I ever did watching interviews.

Toumas is just such an intelligent, gentle and humble person. I'd love to have a few beers with him and get lost in a discussion.
Anyway, one thing I know for sure - when the show with a live orchestra happens, I'll be there. Even if it's on the Moon.
"If you're sick, we help you. You don't have to pay. That's commonsense". I wish that politicians discussing the economic situation in Europe at the present moment would agree on that. Especially when it comes to help countries like mine, where Coronavirus struck very hard.

I don't see him as sophisticated, he's been very open about what a nerd he is. What a kid he is. Very into Disney, comic books, and video games. Into a lot of fantasy books as well.

I just wanted to say Thank You. For your words, the band, the music. Many times the songs have touched deeply and helped in many ways. Thank You.
I already love this Band for years, without having any oportunity to see them live.
I live in Brazil, in a city inside de amazon Forest, this is the most closer that i can get to meet this genius in person, as friend, from a long, long time, sharing his visions of life.
I have been accompanying and admiring nightwish for so long, considering this Band members as my closest friends, without seen even one of them.
It dosent matter the fact that you dont know me, your music, your inspirarion, your view of the world, made me find my best as a human being, constantly, being present as a feeling of music that has always influenced my life.
This is prove of the true power of human technology: enabling the feeling of coexistence and affection across the longest distances, through empathy for people beyond my life and time.
We need more of this!

I'm glad Nightwish is making such an effort this time to promote the new album. The reaction videos already exposed them to a lot new people and showed old fans that yes, they are still going and they do sound great. It's what you got to do in the internet in 2020 and I'm sure it'll be worth it.
Tuomas you are the best, your music goes beyond that. It is more a lifestyle. I love you.
This man is Beethoven , Mozart , Chopin , etc. in one , a Fantastic composer , made a MASTERPICE with HUMAN :II: NATURE .
Amazon is making a series on The Lord of the Rings, second Age; Tuomas should make the songs for Tolkien's lyrics, that would be amazing.

@@dejan375 they have this soft/poppy tempo, the lyrics are similar being about living life to the fullest and with positivity and bla, they both have folk instruments etc so yeah, they're similar. It's not like we're mistaken Weak Fantasy for Élan

I have tickets to see them in September in New York. I'm coming all the way from Indiana just to see Nightwish. I really hope covid-19 has run its course by then and I can still see them. If not I will be really disappointed.

I'm a prose writer and Tuomas' advice "Do not be original just for the sake of originality" resonates greatly with me. So many things have already been written and there's no way you'll be fully original on your own, so just write whatever feels closest to your heart. Thanks!

I've said it before and will proudly say it again. This dude will be remembered in history and his music will be attempted to be performed for millennia to come.
I found this video two years too late. All of his answers are so on point and deep, and I loved hearing that Jukka is doing well these days 💕 the question about songwriting, I took it for myself but turned into creative writing, and will definitely take his advice on that. Besides, Tuomas himself is my current source of inspiration after a 5 years old writer's block. I started listening to NW and *poof* a bunch of ideas started to come to me again, so thank you Master Holopainen for reviving my muse 😊

I am a pre-orderer and have just received and listened to the album. WOW! Wow! I am absolutely speechless! Wonderful, great.
Waaaaah overwhelming. At the moment i'm stuck in Music. I can't find the words. Awesome. Floor is the best singer in the world. I might be overreacting right now, but I'm not quite sane right now :D I thought nothing could beat Endless forms most beautiful. I was very wrong. Tuomas, what you have created with this album surpasses everything else. Except Ghost love score, which was my first Nightwish song 15 years ago ;) respect.
After hearing Human Nature a few many times, I have to correct my view slightly. This is the best album I have heard lately. To all band members: a huge praise to you. I was so looking forward to this album. Now it's here and I am overjoyed to finally hear it in its entirety. Now I only hope that the concert in Frankfurt will take place in December. Please start with music *g*
Yeah, album is awesome, I got so much goosebumps during the listening of it! I got tickets to Moscow and Kiev shows but it's not going to happen now :(

The album it’s coming out on my birthday! Excellent gift
This exemplifies why I respect this man so much: First, he believes in evidence-driven science, sees our species-driven potential; second, he's a _thinker._ He actually is highly intelligent, and I love the fact he seems to be easy to talk to, notwithstanding the fact he can hold a conversation on many different topics.
As for playing with a live orchestra, Tuomas, I have a humble request: Play with an orchestra in London's Wembley Arena -- because it would be a huge thing to have Pips Williams there, not to mention that the London Philharmonic are literally right in the neighborhood! I'm asking because it would be amazing to have Floor and Henk Poort singing Phantom of the Opera, in an arena as big as Wembley.
(Can you tell I've thought about this, a lot? Lol)

I think this is really good format. One can see just a bit deeper inside your head and world when you're relaxed and there's not a damn hubbub around like in so many interviews.

"It sounded awful. Absolutely pretentious crap". That's why I believe you have a humble heart and an amazing mind. All in all... I wouldn't mind listening to that demo. The idea, as you said, sounds AMAZING (but well... not everything is in reality as it is in our minds).
I completely agree! Also, because he is able and willing to call himself out on his own "pretentious crap", I feel it makes him a better musician. The band is very warm and humble and as a fanit just lends to loving them even more.
This was a great video to watch and Tuomas makes a lot of sense. I really like what he says between 6:29 and 7:47. I had to write it down:
"These ongoing events, they reveal a lot about human nature. I've seen much more good than I've seen bad. There's this overall sense of community-people coming together. We'll see a lot of altruism, a lot of wanting to help your fellow man. The optimism is still there because this thing is not going to last forever. It's going to go away and I do hope that people will remember this sense of community, taking care of each other also after we have gotten rid of the virus.
We have such huge potential as a species. Just a few rotten apples on the top plus the constant fearmongering from the media takes things out of perspective... constantly. If there's something good to be taken out of this situation that we are facing now, it's this: The true angels of our nature."
This guy is my favourite composer. I'd really love if Tuomas made a video outlining his whole songwriting process and how he just brings everything together to make these masterpieces.

With the extra time I would recommend listening to Estas Tonne, a brilliant Ukrainian classical guitarist. His melodies touch me in the same way yours do, good music for reflection and relaxation.
Tuomas, another fine album! I listened to it on UA-cam and can't wait to buy it so I can listen to it on my sound system! Over and over and over again, hearing stuff I didn't hear before! I'm a long time fan and this album definitely rocks socks! Its everything I look forward to from Nightwish, metal, orchestral, musicality, intelligent, excellent story telling about life, both lyrically, and musically. LUUUUUUV IT!!!!!!!!! Thanks to you and the rest of the band for all the hard work that you put into every one of your albums, making them into enjoyable works of art that feed the soul.

For the gig with an Orchestra do the same as Metallica, 2 or 3 gigs over a few days in one venue (no pyro) Royal Albert Hall 😉 and no other gigs. record it and release it on all formats.
