- PAT BENATAR BEFORE SHE WAS DISCOVERED AND BECAME FAMOUS ROCKER!
In 1974 while living in Richmond, VA, Pat recorded one single for Phil Coxon, leader of a local band Coxon's Army. No more then 200 copies were pressed and mayby half of them sold. As the rumour goes, in late '70s when Pat signed to Chrysalis Records and released her debut album "In the Heat of the Night", she re-claimed and destroyed most of the remaining copies of that single.
To learn much more about Pat Benatar's life befor her official debut in 1979, please read her memoir "BETWEEN A HEART AND A ROCK PLACE" published in 2010.

Starsky And Hutch..will return after these words from our sponsors.
YES!!!
It reminds me of the music from the 3:00 Afternoon Movie back in the 70s.
One of my all time favorite songs ever. Should of been the theme to Mary Tyler Moore show.
It does sound like the theme to a mid 70s TV series...
Great song great pix
It does sound like a 1970's TV theme song, but I like it! Pat Benatar had to start from the bottom before she skyrocketed to rock stardom, a few years later and this is proof. This song should be played occasionally on classic rock stations as a "long lost music archive" before Pat Benatar became famous.
Everyone has to start somewhere. Even Led Zeppelin statrted out as an opening act!
I read Pat's book and came upon this song. Thanks for posting.
I love running into stuff I've never heard ... thanks for uploading
I love this song of Pat... It's so beautiful !
This is fantastic!
❤❤❤❤, WOW 😳 so beautiful ❤️ ❤❤❤
She's an expert vocalist with a good bit of personality to the voice. Glad she hit the big time for a good 5 years back in the day. I heard she's well versed in the Dewey Decimal system as well.
Love the song
loveit........and gosh she was a beauty..........still is too....
Every song to me brings me back to the 70's . Thanks !
Very hip! I love your voice... If this song had come-out a decade earlier; there is no doubt, that it would've been a Chart Topper!
I'll keep in my Fav's; none-the-less, in case it becomes a Movie segway.
love you Pat
Pat Mae , tu voz es hermosa e inconfundible ..... Eres mi Presedente !!!!!! ********
Lol sounds like a Theme song for a TV show...
+EL BANDITO My exact thoughts
Or the end of a James Bond movie..
credits song for the Mary Tyler Moore show? LOL!
Cool song.
Very motown. I like it! Why would she want to destroy copies of this song?
i love 70s music, this totally could have been a theme song. i am so digging this old Benatar I never knew exsisted
Makes me think of a theme song for something like Mary Tyler Moore. She's finally nominated for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. These lost 1970's tracks are brilliant. This lady had some amazing pipes and certain parts of her career get overlooked. She did a jazz LP, True Love which was amazing but got little attention because it wasn't like those tough girl tracks that made her initially popular like Treat Me Right, Heartbreaker, and You Better Run. Her cover of Kate Bush's Wuthering Heights and the Beatles Helter Skelter were overlooked too. Painted Desert and Strawberry Wine are huge favorite of mine. Did not enjoy her silly stuff though like the Get Nervous LP. She and her husband are a beautiful couple. Neil and Pat are both blessed with good genes. Her daughters are gorgeous.
Because it does sound like a TV theme, which usually last for one minute on-air, this song sounds very long even at only three minutes. Interesting upload tho' thanks
Merci je ne connaissais pas le début de votre carrière Pat. En duo avec Diana Ross aurait été formidable !❤
Yes it does sound like the sounds of the 70's tv shows
Love, love, love this!
It sounds like something Dionne Warwick or Betty Wright should have recorded.
Dusty Springfield was the cool low-key influence back then.
If it wasn't for Wikipedia I would have never known this song existed. Thanks Wikipedia :D
SAME HERE! Saw on Wikipedia, immediately went to UA-cam!
When ever I hear a Pat Benater it takes me back to the 80's - I was dating a girl in 1985 it was more than that really - Thts young lady, really was the one ! - At the time she had a very complete collection of Pats music - She once told me in 85 when we were listen it 'We belong' - She was telling me that Pat found out she was expecting a baby girl Hayley while filming the vidro for we belong ? - & also said to me that if ever she was blessed with a baby girl - She also would be called Hayley ? - Fate stuck its nose into fridnship and we sadly split up ! - We were good together while it lasted !
Saw her a couple of years later - She was now married and had young toddler in tow -
Baby had blonde hair & big deep blue eyes - Like clear blue lagoons - Just like her Moms in miniture ! - And really was called Hayley ! - Hows that for fan dedication ?
It’s sad really.
Woke too late to get a good breakfast, coffee will have to do
Ran three blocks to get to my bus stop, can’t be late or I’m through
Every day the same old hassle, running to beat the clock
Get to work and try to look cheerful just like the rest of the flock
And it gets me down, all this running around
And I can see what it’s doing to me as the years melt away
Work pads up, I never can catch up, have to skip lunch today
Days roll by, endless succession, Friday is so far away
And it’s just a crime ‘cause I’m wasting my time
And I can see what it’s doing to me as the years melt away
When the rush is past I find my way home
Away from clocks and phones
To dreams of my own
So I just relax and stop in my tracks
And let visions of happy tomorrows bring hope to my day
And it gets me down, all this running around
And I can see what it’s doing to me as the years melt away
Work pads up, I never can catch up, have to skip lunch today
Days roll by, endless succession, Friday is so far away
And it gets me down, all this running around
And I can see what it’s doing to me as the years melt away…
Fucking Epic! A gem!
Based on Benatar's hit songs, I never dreamed she did something this creative, this cool, this interesting. All I can say is WOW! Now I wonder about the flip side of "Day Gig" - is it also such a rare groove gem? And are there other great, other unique early songs like this, recorded before her rock music? I cannot blame Ms. Benatar for going for commercial rock - unfortunately for the good of music, that is where the money lay.
This is as commercial as it got in its time.
tu es tres belle pat mae je suis fan de ta voix ♥ bisous de france
Pat was born jan 10, 1953. she's 59 years old now
It is a rare song Pat Benatar, but I like it all the same.
I like it..
she's so cute
This does sound a great deal like it should be a theme for a show, but only because of the short verses and overall arrangement. Otherwise, it isn't bad whatsoever, and I hear a lot of stylistic influence from e.g. Space Lady and Expansions by Lonnie Liston Smith, who is also from Richmond.
パットベネターのファンになって40年、このタイミングで「新曲」に出会えるとは思わなかった。
waoooow!!!
hmm...interesting. thank you.
Sweeeeeet!!!!
1974? Why such a long gap until her next single? 5 years in fact
Pat was born in 53, not 63.
A bit like discovering Ronnie Dio & The Prophets
This was 9 to 5 before 9 to 5.
Believe the band was Called COXON ! - Pat Benetar was signed up as lead singer because she was classically trained & could turn her *hand to any style of music ....*voice ? Ha !
Holy shit! She did a disco song b4 Blondie. I thought disco started in 75?someone should remix this. Nice!
Any printed lyrics anywhere?
Not a bad song at all. Her voice reminds me of Karen Carpenter here. But of course, 5 years later...you know...
I'm confused..... Since Pat Benatar was born in 1963....(wikipedia) is this possible? Does anyone know when she was actually born? Somehow I don't think she was 11 yrs old when this song was done in '74......
@lsnoyz she was born in 53
Because of this record, she became eligible for the Rock Hall in 1999. About time she's been nominated- hopefully she and Neil will be voted in.
It's not a bad little song- but not indicative of what she would become.
Day Gig is so much better than commercial rock, any day.
Then breath into your hand.
Not bad... got a little funk to it.
Not gonna lie scrolling passed this thumbnail I thought it was a picture of Alicia Keys at first
I can't help but think of a pantyhose commercial when I hear this song.
Is that all you can think about, Sheldon? Huh?
Obviously These are call center comments this is awful
Trying to capture a little of the Karen Carpenter sound from the 70's .. thank God that didn't last too long.. lol
I don't hear any similarity to Karen Carpenter. Your ears may have been conditioned to only like rock. I find "Day Gig" to be the most enjoyable and vibrant song I have ever heard by Pat Benatar.
Awful ! No wonder she destroyed copies.
Pat so rarely puts out a bad song-- sadly this is one of the flops!! Thanks for the history lesson, nonetheless.
+Metal Maven You're crazy. Another place and time and her critics consider this lost gem and a classic example of her true talent and range for the time period. Perhaps you should listen to Fire and Ice again. I guarantee you Pat would play this 100 times over that track.
+househeadericmd I gave it a second chance, a third chance, a forth chance but still not in love with it. It sounds too pop for my preferences. Her vocals are good but the style sounds too much like a 70's TV show's theme song. Sorry to disappoint you.
@@MetalMaven you better check your ears.
@@ironbassler747 Wow, how is Day Gig a flop? It is one of the greatest songs I have heard in years and years!
I like to smell farts.
