Here's My Heart - Pat Benatar (Metropolis "gapless" mix)

- I'd wanted a version of this song for quite some time. Imagine my disappointment when I bought the soundtrack to Giorgio Moroder's 1984 version of Fritz Lang's masterpiece many years ago on cassette tape. The "Here's My Heart" by Pat Benatar on that soundtrack is an over-produced pile of rubbish with a higher tempo and not nearly as nice to listen to.
Fast forward to 2013 and I bought Giorgio Moroder's version of the film on DVD and decided it was time to mix together that song from the movie and turn it into an MP3.
As many other uploaders of this song have done, they've strung the first instance of the track at the start of the film and then the reprise midway through and then the end credits but with gaps between them.
What I've done here is take all three snippets and mix them together with no gaps, into one seamless track.
I hope you like it.
Download the MP3 from here: www.dropbox.co...
I'm a big fan of this movie. This is what I was looking for many years!! I also have the soundtrack. but I'm one of the disappoited people. I'm very impressed and have listened to it over and over.
Thank you very much!
frissons....
This song at the end, when the two guys who have been enemies the whole movie, shake hands, right as Pat belts out, "Love can't hide....", gets me every time.
BX, you nailed it. The handshake accompanied by the drum leading into Pat's voice is perfect. I love how Moroder slowed the handshake down, and how you don't really see the hands connecting as they fade out, because you don't need to. It symbolizes that a new world, which we won't see in this incredible film, is going to overtake the one we just saw. I saw this in Brookline MA in 1984, and the entire audience stood and applauded at that moment.
Giorgio Morder is a real genius. The final Ladder scene and the shake hands is brilliant. He composed his song maybe with the wonderful voice of Pat Benatar in mind. The guitar and drums played by Keith Forsey are fantastic.
They weren't enemies the whole movie long.
Did you watch the movie?
Foreman Grot worked for Master Joh Fredersen and enters the film promptly being Fredersen's stool pidgeon presenting confiscated blueprints of the worker's secret avenues to the Prophetess Maria's church meetings through the deep underground ancient catacombs.
Thanks for Maria
Truly the greatest voice in rock. Angelic and powerful
Her eyes are simply stunning. It's incredible how a woman who lived 100 years ago can still capture men's hearts. Brigitte Helm's beauty is timeless.
I often wonder if she got to see this version of Metropolis. She was still alive when it was released.
Not sure about Brigitte, but I know that I've seen photos of Gustav Froelich around that time (maybe with Moroder?)smiling and making the gesture he did in the film! Not sure what he thought of it, but I might have to do a deep dive on that!!
🌬Here's my heart❤
This song really captures Pat Benatar vocal range and softness of her voice
BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO! I did the same on a VHS, and now, thanks to you, new and old chills of pleasure ....! Thanks a lot!
In Metropolis (Moroder's version 1984) this song accompanies Freder saw Maria for the first time...
Thank you Daniel for this video. Fantastic sound, amazing pictures
Excelsa melodía a pesar del paso del dios Cronos
In this turbulent and divided world, these clips are more than beautiful and can make one cry. Well put together and let's pray for a peaceful world.
As far as I am concerned, this is the definitive mix of this song. Thank you so much for doing this and sharing it.
The end of this movie and her astonishingly beautiful send off is unforgettable
She doesn’t die at the end.
That voice!!
beautiful song
Truly one of the greatest vocal performances I have ever heard. Amazing!
Haunting...beautiful. I first encountered this when I watched the film from a screening on Channel 4, impossible to forget. Cheers :-
The love...the music of my lifetime
Like so many of the other commenters here, I was also entranced by the 1984 Moroder version and the music, too. I was also crushed that the version that we have here was not on the soundtrack (soundtrack version is kinda poppy and weird, imo.) So, I would rent the film on VHS and rewind over and over just to hear this gorgeous song. Got to meet Pat Benatar at a pre-concert charity thing a few years ago and was so overwhelmed by being in her presence that I failed to ask her involvement with this beautiful song. Such regrets!! 😪
Sencillamente extraordinaria...!!
It's THE song Beautiful! just!
Thanks so much for making this. This song made the movie for me. Puts a lot of emotion into it that I think is already there, but it helps you notice it and concentrate on it.
Anyhow, I've downloaded it and listened to it countless times. Thanks again!
I saw the 1984 Metropolis on Betamax in college in the 90s, I think, and this song (and the movie) made an impression on me ever since. Pre-internet, I tried in vain to find the video again, just to listen to the song. Technology has its evils, but sometimes it has its advantages. Thanks for your work on getting this song on YT. :)
Everything around this is a masterpiece.
Good God this is beautiful
I have been awaiting for this for so long, and then you sir come along and produce a double whammy. Absolutely brilliant! Here voice is just as haunting and captivating as all those years ago. Way to go Daniel a Masterpiece!
THANK YOU so much for this! I can't tell you how much it means to me to hear this song the way it is supposed to be! Just beautiful! Sends shivers up my spine!
It's great when someone bothers to do stuff like this and make it available for others. Clearly from the comments, it was very much something people had been waiting for
Supposedly there's an official release of the movie version on one of her greatest hits CDs.
So beautiful, appreciate the others work that have posted long versions here, but this is absolute perfection!
Nicely done--ultimately I always listen to the direct-from-soundtrack versions of the songs even though they're incomplete, this makes it easier, thanks for doing it!
Awesome. True Beauty...for the Heart!
too good! no words can describe this perfection!
wahnsinnig tolles Lied! Dazu in der Maxiversion. Getragen und perfekt mit brillanter Stimme interpretiert.🤩
Mi alma va en esta canción.Ojala pudiésemos decile a alguien sin miedo u confianza AQUÍ ESTÁ MI CORAZON
Thank you so much for this- beautiful.
Thank you so much for this, it really means a lot to me!
Excellent mix, Thanks!!
Perfect! Thank you for doing a wonder job. This mix truly exemplifies Pat Benatar's vocals. Yes, I was a bit disappointed with official released soundtrack.
Blown away by this! I, too, was disappointed with the 80s version. Great job!
Excellent! Fantastic!
Are the movie versions of the other songs available like this one? This version of HMH has completely different lyrics.
I found Moroder's Metropolis soundtrack a couple of years ago and I love it. If you guys think it's garbage, I'd love to here the original versions of all the other tracks
All the songs, including Moroder's two instrumentals, were re-recorded for the soundtrack. However most of them sound pretty much the same if not entirely identical. Only "Here's My Heart" was produced differently with an eye on it charting as a rock/pop song. It didn't.
It's a real shame what they did to that. I still shake my head.
@@Soopytwist Were the songs re-recorded around the time the movie was released or was it years later?
i've always thought that pat never truly used her voice to its true potential on her records.... this song is def proof of that....
wow! you made the best version!! would you please upload it as flac? or wav?
I no longer have the original wav from the edit, sorry.
@@Soopytwist ohh..
Thanks anyway your mp3 is in good quality! Do u have other classic like that?
Don't worry Daniel...THIS IS THE VERSION!
wow this gorgeous
This is outstanding. Do you know who the other musicians are?
Giorgio Moroder.
It was usually Richie Zito on guitar and Keith Forsey on keyboards collaborating on Giorgio Moroder's 80s soundtracks.
Agree about the record, what a disappointment! Straight out to the lawn sale.
Quite good sound on this post. Like to start here 2:36.
Really starts to cook 4:38.
Bring me a hankie. 5:54 - 7:04. Treasurable!
The sound, the mix! On par with the Master himself. And we know who he was. Farewell, H.P.S.😥
This is not the original version, which is far better than this one.
This IS the original version as it was in the movie. The one on the soundtrack was produced after, to get it to chart. Not many people prefer that over produced tosh to be honest so you're in the minority.
both things you said in your comment are wrong.
Guaranteed to re-awaken my hard-line socialism
This version should be remastered with more emphasis on the bass and drums. Pat's voice is out of this world.
YOU are an angel for this labor of love on your part and for sharing it with the rest of us. Benatar's voice at its absolute peak in those days too!! I'm in awe.
f... superb
Thanks for this :')
Moroder's version of Metropols is brilliant, no matter what people say.
I love this Moroder version. LOVE IT. Period. Yes, I cry, too.
Absolutely wonderful to listen to. Wow, this edition of the movie, is my favourite edit, if others disagree, I would be happy to discuss...
It's by far the best edition of the movie.
The best version
I LOVE THIS SONG!
In this kind of non-realistic, presentational art they are archetypes. Each one is more than himself, here standing for Labor and Ownership. Like much of Wiemar film, it sought a solution to the era's divisions in a collective understanding and solidarity.
That era did not last long.
One of the most beautiful voices to ever grace the pop charts. Pat Benatar is one of a kind and it is an absolute travesty that she is not in the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame.
well said. Benatar is truly a miracle
Actually, now she is in the Hall of Fame.
@@alannorris8465 Yay!!! 🙌🏼🤩💜🎤
@@normturner4849 INFINITE "Yay!!!"
I just bought and re-watched the Moroder Metropolis with my husband, who had never seen it. You can't find it on streaming so we had to buy a DVD. It's just as great as I remembered, and this song is the standout. Once again, I cried at the end of the movie. How many 1926 silent films can make you cry? The score, although totally 80s music, made it all work beautifully. And I was happy that my husband liked it as much as I.
There is a 1927 film called "Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans" that will have you crying your eyes out. Interestingly, it was directed by another German named F. W. Murnau, and it was produced at the William Fox studios, years before it became 20th Century Fox. Technically it isn't a "silent film" because it has a soundtrack for music and sound effects, and that alone made it rather ground-breaking. It also won an Academy Award in 1929 (the first "Oscar" ceremony ever) for "Best Unique and Artistic Picture" (the only time that category was awarded), and also for Cinematography and Best Actress (Janet Gaynor). Look it up. You won't be disappointed.
I love this Moroder version. LOVE IT. Period. Yes, I cry, too.
It's worth owning.
Happy to know how you got the DVD? Someone did upload a good quality video version to You-Tube several years ago I manually recorded it to a digital source, for personal use, only. I've never subsequently rediscovered the same link since. I still watch this recording, from time-to-time. As a collector, and a huge fan of this film I would like to purchase a real DVD of this film. The 1984 edit of 'Metropolis' is a personal favorite of mine.
I never knew what a beautiful voice Pat Benetar has until I saw this movie in 1985. She had made a career out of trying to sound tough and angry, but she was capable of so much more.
How reductive of her incredible place in the rock scene. She brought this same strength, nuanced interpretation and soaring vocal range to songs that speak to the wronged and abused as to this beautiful love song.
Her end credit ending is utterly magnificent
Pat Benatar is one of the best vocalists of our time. To say her other music is "angry" shows a tragic disrespect for her. She's a vocalist, vocalists emote. She isn't angry, she's gifted.
Our two worlds met in strange surprise
I hid my love in thin disguise
I tried to leave, how could I stay?
What if my heart gave me away?
I always thought I'd be prepared
But love just caught me unaware
You said the words and I believed
I fell so hard, I fell so deep
Love can't hide, though it tries
Hearts catch fire, so has mine
Here's My Heart
So true love triumphs once again
It always makes it in the end
And if you let the heart run free
It will return faithfully
Love can't hide, though it tries
Hearts catch fire, all the time
Helpless love walks the line
Hearts catch fire, the hour is fine
Here's My Heart
Ooh, Ooh
Love can't hide, though it tries
Hearts catch fire, all the time
Helpless love walks the line
Hearts catch fire, so has mine
Here's My Heart
Here's My Heart
Here's My Heart
Here's My Heart
Ooh... Hey, Hey, Hey
CINDY AND I GOT MARRIED TO THIS SONG IN FALL 1984 (ON CASSETTE BOOMBOX ; ON THE BEACH ) WE BOTH HAD NOT THOUGHT OF IT ; BUT ON "THE VOICE" TONIGHT ONE OF THE CONTESTANTS COVERED A PAT BENATAR SONG ; IN 1984 WE HAD JUST SEEN THE METROPOLIS MORODER VERSION AND BOTH BONDED FOR LIFE OVER THIS SONG GREAT MEMORIES
I believe her voice was classically trained. You hear the value from how she powerfully sustains notes. Gorge...
She studied for Julliard in the Classical/Opera vocal.
@DC Dad
Which honestly makes it feel all the more strange when Pat does her usual punk/pop rock fare.
@@matthewmoran5297 At the time, that's what she was told her voice was suited for, but classical and opera was not her dream. Rock was her dream and the woman grabbed it by the brass ring!
That's what I heard at the time she entered the pop market. And, she had to "unlearn" her singing techniques. I'm glad she held onto the basics for this!!!
@@julesohrin-greipp3517 She probably didn't have to try very hard to 'unlearn' ... she's a GREAT singer.. Thank God she didn't 'unlearn', actually! 🙂
this is one of the most thoughtful and beautiful love songs. Ever. Presented by one of the most gifted and underrated performers of our modern times.
Not sure she is underrated at all. She OWNED the 1980s. But yes, truly a beautiful tune only made better by her incredible talent and blessed voice.
Masterpiece
White horse
I thought this revision was long gone and lost- imagine my smile, and the tears it always brings, when I found it and heard it again. This version is brilliant!!!
IMO this is the best song displaying Pat Benatar's talents ever. It makes her "rock & roll" tunes sound trashy in comparison. She was meant to sing beautiful songs like this.
This is what the world needs right now!
I agree. I wish she used this voice on an album
I've watched the 1984 version of Metropolis a hundred times and I still get chills and tear up over this song. If I ever get married, I want this to be the main song at my wedding. In fact, maybe the lyrics should just be our wedding vowels. Astounding beautiful song.
Did u marry yet?
Still joyfully searching Jose!
I’m on a journey to find someone who shares the funk…that transcendental quality that fuels us to live an extraordinarily creative life…even in ordinary or difficult circumstances.
I have little fear of social stigma and I make my own path regardless of the approval or disproval of others. I’m not afraid to bite off more than I can chew…and I frequently do.
I live with integrity and I have a backbone. I utilize them both. Daily.
I’m an artist, educator, master tinkerer, ferocious explorer, and seeker of the funk in this soul-swept world. If you know anyone like that or anyone who’s open to it, please send them my way. Ms. Benatar has already written our vows😉

fella, I recently lost the love of my life of 21 years to cancer this past November, when we first met it was like when freder first sees maria. It was wonderful, I'm lost now without my love.
I hope u find your MARIA TO YOUR FREDER
@@thetinysideoftiny7625 wait ...pat benatar wrote vows for u ?...that's incredible

@@MrJoseoz Jose, I’m deeply sorry for your loss. Truly.
Must have been incredible to experience that level of love. I’ve come close once…but not that Freder and Maria level of love. My dating pool is smaller, as I am living with a same gender attraction…but that has not deterred me. Freder is out there somewhere. Again, little fear of social stigma or what people think…so my journey continues.
No I do not know Pat Benatar personally…the vow comment was a joke. I made a prior comment about using the lyrics from “Here’s My Heart” as my wedding vows.
Curious, how did you know about the song? Are you a fan of Metropolis? Pat Benatar?
This edit is a work of genius upon the far superior version of a beautiful song. THANK YOU.
Amazing voice Amazing song . The movie is deep . Should be having these conversations now . Take a look . What the world has become. We use to feed Africa . Farm aid . Hands across America. When has the elite have so much influence on us . Sorry 😢 just saddened at the direction. We have gone . We are all stuck on this rock called earth . Only a few do not suffer. While the rest do . Open your hearts 🥰 we need each other . We definitely can not do this on are own . Much love ❤️ to humanity! Much love to those who do for others . Not expecting anything in return. Love to those that spread good vibes 😎 love to those that dream . We can make it better for all of us . All of us . Thank you 🙏 Stay positive. Stay you .
Love it! Thanks for doing such a great and amazing job!
Thank you so much for creating this. I hated the soundtrack album version of this great song. The seamless editing of the 3 segments is perfect. This mix really showcases Pat Benatar's incredible voice.
I lived. Can you write the letter?
Plaid this again and again frying my amp. Great mix. God bless
It's THE song of the whole soundtrack where I always lose it and cry my eyes out. It's such a sweet touching song.
Absolutely! Nice comment.
Me too.... this and Love Kills both very opposite but both insanely powerful ❤️
i have the same response to this amazing song. there's something about it's melody that crunches the heart...and i think it's thanks to giorgio moroder's brilliant take on it.
in fact i prefer every moroder version of each song in this movie.
I totally agree!.. There is an Honesty in the writing and performance of this Song that Claws at your Feelings.
Pat Benatar's vocals on the Metropolis version are Amazing!!!
I wish i could thank her personally for this Beautiful song....
@@holyeran Agreed. It feels like a small crime that this version was never for sale. Like our kind uploader the soundtrack album version left me feeling cheated.
THANK YOU for this awesome editing masterpiece!
Never enough!
I have viewed many edits of 'Metropolis,' the music here only associates with a single edit of this movie, and personally it is by far my favorite version. I really like everything in this edit of the movie: tight pace and exposition of the film's narrative delivering a great story. Every scene is accompanied by this wonderful music that massively compliments all of the pre-existing material for this film.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! The movie version is the most beautiful song I've ever heard, no exaggeration. This is magnificent!
Perfect.
Thank you again for this brilliant piece of work!! I LOVE IT!!! :) :)
Was with my wife in L.A. shopping an antique jewelry in the '80s and in walks Pat alone. She was vibrant, bobbed hair style and petite. She wore a rockin' silk blouse with a clear vinyl coat, little leather skirt and ankle boots. Reminded me of the stripper robot in the original Blade Runner. Yabba Dabba...
hermosa película una joya del cine y con la intervención sonora ,gano mucho
Damn fine job!
Really is a shame, and should be considered a crime that this isn't the version that made it on the soundtrack, or any of Pat Benatars albums.
This is quite possibly, or at least to me, the best song Benatar ever preformed.
Watched this film so many times . Rewound the last part over n over
It's almost 6 years ago and I'm just seeing this now! Thank you so much for this. It is so much better quality than mine. I was in the same situation as you. I saw the movie when it came out in 84 and was very taken by most of the score(despite the film being nominated for a Raspberry for worst score) with Here's My Heart being at the very top. It is a really beautiful song. I love how it gradually crescendos into a brisk but lumbering paced pop piece with tambourines and loud snare, as Pat's vocals become more powerful. I pretty much obsessed over it for years. I, like you, hoped to find audio of the song strung together. I wrote Sony music but my letter was returned. I, like you, found and bought the soundtrack CD only to find that version unlistenable. Also like you, I used my movie, albeit VHS, and a mixer, to make my own gapless version. I made 3 cassette copies and made the final song onto a 4th tape. I had figured it was a nice one to use in my wedding should that ever come, and it did in 1996, and I did use it. Most people don't know that Pat Benatar, of whom I had always been a raging fan, is classically trained. I read her autobiography. This is one of few songs she sings that really showcases that.
A true rock aria!
For a straight up rocker, Benatar has power, sustainability of musical notes and expression that can't be beat.
Before I saw this film many years ago I hadn't really heard of her, though I was familiar with Love is a Battlefield. It made me check out her back catalogue and I'm glad I did.
Did you know that the second ever video played on MTV was her? It was in 1981. "You Better Run"(cover of the 1966 song by the Young Rascals) from her first album. That is when I first heard of her, and I was stuck like glue immediately, and still am. Bought everything that came out. About a year after this movie was released, my film class had us watch it, as we were studying Fritz Lang. I tis by far the best edition of the movie, and I do enjoy other songs in it, and I'm a John Anderson fan. I was totally captivated by Here's My Heart, and really impressed at how they spread it out over 3 very disparate parts. As people here have mentioned, she had classical training before turning to rock. She had been plucked out of a singing class in school because the teacher knew an amazing voice when she heard one. They got the professionals involved, and she went to classical singing school. You can hear that in all her pop songs. People say she's raspy, but that's an illusion played by the music, and by her sheer power. Pay attention and you hear no rasp at all, only smooth beauty. People think she was a wild child, and that is also very false. She never partied. She never did drugs. She fell in love at first sight of Neil when he auditioned for the band. Eventually, they married. On tour, she brought a washer and dryer so she could wash their kids' clothes, as they usually went along with them, and her evenings were spent doing average motherly things like reading them bedtime stories. I finally got to see the Benatar/Geraldo act a little under a decade ago. She is a most gracious host.
I had such a crush on Brigette Helm the first time I saw Metropolis, then I found out she died 24 years ago.
Her bio is easily googled and is an interesting read but you'll change your mind about her when you realize what a snobby and selfish woman she was. Turning her back on everything and everybody after her stardom! Everyone is entitled to a private life but she would never grant even one interview for the rest of her long life.
I love Brigette Helm and regardless of her bio, we all make mistakes along the way and doesn't change my mind regarding her.
Joel Griswold “Everyone is entitled to a private life but-“ And that’s where you stop. She had every right to refuse to be interviewed. It was her life and I don’t see how not wanting to be interviewed would make them a bad person. People aren’t entitled to someone just because they are famous.
Yeah at age 88 lol
I didn't want to marry her, I just thought she was pretty.
This is so beautiful and exactly what I needed right now, thank you :)
Attended a private function hosted by the company I worked for at the time She and her husband Neil Giraldo were the featured entertainment and blew us away.
Beautiful. Thank you.
Beautiful❤❤❤
If I said it once I'll say it again, you did a perfect job mixing this.
A great showcase of her vocal abilities...Pat can sing opera and hard rock! The Queen of Rock and Roll!
Happy 36th birthday to Moroder's "Metropolis", released in US cinemas on August 10, 1984.
Thank you so much putting this together and sharing it to fans like me. I too hated the soundtrack album version of this great song. For the longest time that I've looked for the movie version of it but my search was in vain. Until last night that I've stumbled onto your post. The seamless editing of the 3 segments is flawless! Again, thank you!
Thanks! :)
@@Soopytwist Yeah... THANKS, Daniel. It is so appreciated. I cry when I hear this.
Nothing better.
This was going through my head one day when I was 11 years old in my 5th grade class 1993. I started crying in the middle of class just from it playing in my mind. The teacher couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. So glad I have the gift to be able to hear and feel music. Might as well be dead if I couldn't.
