Absolutely phenomenal content Peter! I wish you and your family all the best! Thank you for traveling around the world and showing us the best of US and the world!
I know it's not your job to push back but. What do these people think is going to happen when they vote for mentally ill Democrats? It's not like they hide what their agenda is. They want all of these illegals
I'm a white musician who had a gig in Chicago. I got lost and ran out of gas in the Southside. I had $3,000 worth of guitars and other equipment. I was pretty freaked out since the neighborhood looked very sketchy. Three kids around 15 or 16 came to my rescue. I gave one $20 for a gas can and gas. The other two stood by me until the third got back. They wouldn't take any money but they did accept a meal at a local establishment that was excellent! I had a better time with those kids than the rest of my time in Chicago.
Yes they are good people. It’s just sad African Americans commit so many crimes against other African Americans. I lived in Chicago and can tell you there are places you don’t go after dark. Get off the freeway in Cicero and drive 2 blocks and tell me I’m wrong.
This channel needs to be promoted more on UA-cam. Seriously, the things Peter does to showcase what it's really like in places in the US is very insightful
Peter is doing the work that the news won't do. These are conversations that connect people in a society where we are constantly pitted against each other. Thank you. Hopefully, people watch this and realize we ain't that different
Agreed. The news no longer cares about true journalism. They are all activists and nothing more. They will use whatever tactics and propaganda necessary to push their narratives and agendas. The media is a really big problem in our modern world. They have way too much power and control over peoples minds. Also in regard to this video... it really made me see why the mass illegal immigration is an even bigger problem than most realize. Its just devastating in so many ways, but the politicians refuse to shut down the flood gates because they are hoping to import voting power. Washington is hellbent on nothing but power and will gladly decimate the most needing communities to get it without a second thought. Its really quite despicable.
Dilla you are a FANTASTIC urban historian. I learned so much from you today. The South Side is BEAUTIFUL! It was made to seem like a bombed out heap of rubble. What beautiful people and homes/architecture. Again , so glad to see the beautiful South Side. Chicago is a great city!
This guy has a HUGE wealth of knowledge about the community, culture, and happenings. Much respect for being a change in the community and raising 7 kids.
@@bigsteve86I don't know of any catholics with close to 7 kids. Keep defending these ghetto filth. There's a reason they'll stay on the bottom of society
@@8tonystark8 Who are you to decide how many kids someone should have. Maybe you shouldn't, but he chose to have kids which is his business. If parents teach kids important values such as respect, honesty, kindness, being considerate of others and are raised with love and can support them financially, it's fine to have a large number of kids.
As a Chicago native who grew up on the southside and went to school on the southside…I appreciate your video and Dilla explaining the southside outside of what is told on the internet/news clips.
Hello Leil, I totally agree with you and how you feel. I am also a Chicago native of the Southside (Bowen High 89th st) and though a bit older, i know what hard working people still look like. Dilla is right on the money. Be well whereever you now live. Steven Barry 🙂
You appreciate him ONLY SHOWING BLACKS IN THE HOOD? EVERY BLACK ON THIS CHANNEL IS SHOWING DANGEROUS HOODS. NOTHING POSITIVE AND THIS CHANNEL IS INTERNATIONAL!! YALL REALLY ARE SO EMBARRASSING!!!
I am european somewhat taking interest in usa atm .. are american schools really that bad people feel they should send kids to private schools? Can i ask that question?
I'm a Chicago Southsider. Dilla's content is phenomenal. Love seeing him on here. I also appreciate Peter doing videos on all sides of Chicago. That's the reason I subscribed to this channel.
This guy is extremely knowledgeable about his city and it's clear he loves everything Chicago stands for, very cool to see people who care so much about their community in a country where community is a quickly dying aspect of our social lives.
Im liberal in Chicago and very active in community. I get so annoyed at lefties who complain about capitalism and the loss of community because I never see them at any community services. So many progressives are virtue signaling lazy shits. You also have people on the right calling my community a warzone when I haven't heard a single gun shot in 3 years. Fuck both extreme sides.
Dilla, if you're reading this: Thank you for sharing your insight into the realities of South Side Chicago. Just like any place, any culture, any race - there's usually a simple narrative that catches on but it's not so cut and dry. There's significant nuances. Humanity and how we interface with society is very complex and impossible to sum up. Thanks for being a positive role model for the youth in your neighborhood.
I think it’s regrettable to see hurt people attacking hurt people. Don’t fall for the MAGA smoke n mirrors. Migrants are not our problem. These people traveled three months through the Rio Grande, past the cartels, human traffickers, and spent their entire life savings to get here. They’re not going anywhere. Our community needs to get honest about sh!t or nothing is gonna ever change. Our kids are having teen-takeovers, going on robbery sprees, and succumbing to addiction at an alarming rate. This should be the convo. Live in the solution or drown in your own hate. This issue is far more complicated than the media projects it to be. You can’t wrestle with a solution if you can’t even differentiate between the migrants to address causation. The migrants get temporary relief while they wait for work visas. It’s in all of our best interests that the migrants assimilate or they will assimilate into gangs. And maybe rinse your hearts of all that hateration. We act like our communities don’t receive Section Eight grants, Link, Medicaid, and various other forms of aide. We cost the country billions that add to debt and deficits faster than anything else. We had 2000+ shootings last year in Chicago, do you know how many millions that cost tax payers last year. Also, if we’re being really honest, we know that our homeless largely suffer from addiction issues, and, or mental health issues. We have more shelters than most cities but many rather stay on the streets due to issues with rules and safety concerns. These are the real facts on the ground. Ninjas really struggle with having honest conversations.
Absolutely an intelligent young man. BUT, I have to say that it's a RED flag if you can't let your kids go to the corner store without concern for violence. I tried hanging in the city around my people and it almost cost me my life! I say up Northside is somewhat safer and maybe around 111th close to blue island. If you can afford $200,000 homes, I'd move to a safe suburb any day over inner city Chicago. Too many gangs, too much political corruption and insufficient police resources.
I appreciate you not editing this thing to death. I am not a perfect man and I don’t have all the answers. I am just doing my best to help. History matters.
Thank you for loving your neighborhood and home. I’ve lived in the burbs all my life and learned so much from your expertise. History does indeed matter!
@nancynelson History does indeed matter. I really wish that people would read more about history and the scriptures. It will do more good then harm in their overall duscernment. Oh, well it has already been wriiten and now revealed. Most of already know how this will end. So sad & unnecessary. 🙏🏾
I love history too! Thank you for your perspective and for what you said about giving the young boys someone to look up to. That is so important. Loved this tour.
Thanks for taking the time to educate the rest of us, Dilla! I don’t even turn on my television anymore. I seek out UA-cam content like this. You and Peter are the modern journalists that the world needs. Thank you.
There's (or was) an old black man off 69th with a Confederate uniform that was passed down in his family with documents sitting in a closet. Wasn't expecting to walk in to work on a house on the south side and see the battle flag of Virginia and then being shown the actual Confederate flag and uniform because I gave a thumbs up to the batte flag.
You couldn't have picked a better man to take you on a tour of Southside! What an amazing man, with a wealth of knowledge! I wish him and his family all the love and blessings. And...to all the people in Southside, love and blessings! The media wants to always point out the bad, that's the only time they come around, but NEVER the good! Thank God for Peter & his wife for the work they do!!
It's wonderful hearing level headed people having true conversations instead of just shouting at each other and lying through their teeth. Thank you Peter.
Peter, EXCELLENT!!! Dilla came through loud and clear. I grew up on the Southside of Chicago. Most of the kids that I grew up with were Polish, Italian and Irish. When "White Jet" as Dilla so appropriately called it happened. All my friends (8th grade) disappeared over night. So all my new friends were Black. James H. Bowen High.(89th & S. Chicago Av) Your tour brought back many memories both good and troubling. I eventually left Chicago in 1982 to chase the dream of getting a record deal in Los Angeles. I now have a house, wife and a small career as a musician there but Chicago will always be a part of my soul and that part is the SouthSide of Chicago. When I get😀 some extra money, I'd like to come to Chicago and either book a tour with Dilla or volunteer for a week helping out some organization in his community that helps to make Southsider's lives better. Thank you Peter!! Steven Barry
As a black southside native (born in the 90s), it would be super interesting to hear this history from the perspective of white kids who stayed after white flight. Adapting to the new demographics had to be a super interesting and complex history.
Dear Dilla, I wanted to take a moment to express my utmost gratitude for the profound insights you have shared about life in South Side Chicago. Your perspective has illuminated the fact that, much like any place, culture, or race, there is often a tendency to simplify and generalize, overlooking the intricate complexities that lie within. It is essential to acknowledge the significant nuances that shape our humanity and influence our interactions with society, as they can never be neatly summarized. Moreover, I would like to commend you for being an exemplary role model, particularly for the younger generation in your community. Your positive influence and unwavering dedication serve as a beacon of hope, encouraging others to strive for their best selves. Thank you for the positive impact you have made, and continue to make, on those around you Love from Pakistan!
@@michellehernandez2840 From the heart! And yes I do write scripts too. Let me know if you're looking for an animated explainer video - I work around that stuff.
Dilla is a gift to Chicago, South Side and to all Americans. After watching YT videos about what's going on in our government, it's refreshing to listen to an intelligent and rational human being. Besides that, he's a great role model for our kids! THANK YOU DILLA!!!
Chicago born and raised here 🖐️ There's so much more to the city than corruption and violence, but much respect to Dilla for being active and making the city better, than to just complain and accomplish nothing. Much respect....👊
The stories about 52 schools closed, and the hospital and surrounding homes closed was really something. Dilla talking about just being a normal dad, a piece of “Americana,” to be a role model is so encouraging. “The worlds largest baby shower” and changing the O block to Opportunity Block is fabulous! Hoping and praying for major progress in the South Side.
@@deadppqqqq4822 I'm not white. I'm not afraid of that word racist or racism. Those words have no meaning, it's just words used when blacks don't like to hear facts and truth that can be proven. I'm black, and I would never go to or bring my family to any event that's ran by blacks. And I guarantee you that white man won't bring his family to any black event, that's if he's smart and cares about his family. He's just doing what all white liberals do, butt kiss blacks. ✌🏿😘
@@deadppqqqq4822 Black on black lies only matters to blacks. BLM was proof of that. Now I'm hearing about TI the black criminal rapper is getting into real estate affordable housing for black people..? Really..? 🤣
I'm From East L.A Chicano and I always had an interest in Chicago. normally people think of NY but for myself it's Chicago and I have been looking at interviews and documentaries about Chicago and I always end up with a huge amount of respect for the hard working folks and I see Truth in this clip
Dilla’s the best - you got a real one. A lot of channels out there pretend to know Chicago and the history and what people out here really are like but he actually understands what it all is. Bless! Block parties on the southwest side during the summer w my man’s family are the epitome of what I would want to show people that is the real Chicago. Good food, cheap beer, down to earth people who have seen it all and then some but never give up to see a new day
@@RooseveltAliWashingtonX Miami has been bulldozed over by overdevopment. Chicago is absolutely gorgeous in comparison. Miami has been environmentally destroyed. Chicago is impeccably clean compared to Miami. I was born and raised in the 305 and I love Miami but it's been destroyed. Chicago is a true Metropolis and hands down the greatest city in America.
@@ronlee2611 --- I appreciate the feedback. I know Chicago. I've never visited Miami. However, in pictures, it looks like Miami developers get inspiration from Chicago.
Man. Don't sell yourself short by calling yourself "semi-smart." You are brilliant. You applied yourself to make a difference, more matter the stakes. Your heart is pure, and I am proud of you! You are making a difference ❤ keep doing your good deed in what God put you here to do. I am so humbled by listening to this man tell his story, culture, and history. God bless you!
When he talked about the mayor closing schools, because the funding wasn't there, then the government using those schools to house immigrants, that's real!
This is the best episode I have seen on UA-cam. You did a fantastic job! Dilla is a very talented articulate spokes person for S. Chicago. So much truth and wisdom here. Thank you!
everything but the emit till story, emit tills daddy was sent away because he beat mamie till to a pulp, he was given the choice in court to serve jail time or fight in WW2. He chose to fight. during his tour, he chose to rape and murder two Italian women. The media loves ignoring this part because it would mean that emit tills daddy was a tried a convicted rapist. BTW the women never recanted the accusation. blacks in jewish media venues have tried to claim that with no proof. because it makes emit seem more like a random victim than the prowling opportunistic like his daddy was. don't be a race cucked retard and worship cultural negrosis in a feigned effot to seem cool, in touch, and progressive. Most are not articulate, my family left the South Side in the 60's. It was the race riots that did the area in, and threats to my grandparents lives simply because they were the last Whites to live in the area. blacks don't have a liking to White people, they are taught by every corner of their culture to blame us for their faults. Don't be a complete nonce to that.
I’m totally in agreement with these people. Why isn’t our government more helpful to the loyal citizens who have been here. It’s great to help less fortunate people, but I’m about to turn 60, lived in the Chicago area all my life, raised my 3 children as a single widow of a Viet Nam veteran. I worked 3 jobs & the government told me that the most they could do to help me raise my children would be $75.00 a year for their education but it would be taxable. I told them what they could do with it! Now I had to leave Chicago & move to a little town & my children also had to leave Chicago. I’m alone, crippled & can’t get even medical assistance. I’m confident I’ll die alone in my house & nobody will find me for weeks. But this is an ongoing generational problem that nobody wants to do anything about. Give the new generation a chance to have a better life. They don’t deserve to think that life is hopeless & they don’t have options & they’ll just live to survive & then survive to live.
Capitalistic systems discourage community of any kind, and I see many people in the UK isolated through greed, corruption and deceit. The separation between haves and have nots grows ever bigger, materially; but our spirit can still find solace within, although this is helped if we can find an oasis of like-minded good people. I am thinking of joining a community farm, or a native reservation. At least some people care in these places, although their resources may not be huge, their hearts are! Hope your life improves, and does not follow the lonely path you described.
It’s not capitalist that’s messing up black people, it’s the plantation politics of the Democratic Party. For example, black people are doing better, do what do Democrats do? They bring in migrants to lower wages and take away successful programs and resources from blacks. They don’t keep criminals aren’t prosecuted or let out early. It’s all done on purpose.
Your time with Dilla is my favorite to date. Such a wonderful view of the southside of Chicago, showing the areas that struggle and those that are doing better at the same time.
I’m already a big fan of this channel, but Peter really hit it out the park with the Chicago series…my city 🤝🏾 Thank you for showing ALL aspects of our city because a lot of media coverage is usually one sided and polarizing to fit a specific narrative. Salute 🫡
Media tends to be reactive sensationalism, not constructive and proactive. After all, generally, the media is part of the elite, and the same oppressive issues that burden the have nots.
So many UA-camrs don’t do this and it’s infuriating. They drive through areas, call people names, and show the worst of the worst in one small area. Thank you for going in, showing the culture, and getting to know the actual people. I appreciate the amount of respect you have for these neighborhoods & the real people who live there.
Dilla is the best. It’s hard not to agree with him when he says when you know your space’s history and appreciate its greatness, you feel like you’re on sacred ground. I’ve had conversations about his videos and content with people in Chicago and you can see the smiles on their faces as they excitedly talk about some amazing things that happened in Chicago. I hope that energy finds its way to the kids in this city and they understand that so much greatness has come out of Chicago and they can be a part of that story as well.
I really appreciate your journalism. I think i know why I like your channel so much; you're basically Anthony Bourdain (RIP) without the food focus. You hop in and live a day in the life with the people without judgement. The world needs more people like you.
I never wanted to go visit Chicago until watching this.....another great documentary by Peter!! Doing the real work of bringing this country together.....much love brother!!
Your ability to inform people and enable them to think differently about incredibly complex, often sensitive topics is beyond commendable Peter. "Real talk" is what we need. No emotion, animosity or condescension. You do it so damn well. Great stories, topics and perspectives across all of your films. Bridging the divide through understanding that, at the end of the day, we are all equal. An amazing way to make a living too!
This man knows his city and history. Thanks for giving us a view a few layers deeper than one could find. I'll say that Chicago seems to be still quite corrupt but the fire that fuels the city will rise eventually. Thanks Peter and your guest. Great editing Natalia. Cheers 🇨🇦
We're resilient. A fire wiped us out. Did that end us? No. We came back better and stronger. Everything that happens in Chicago now, has already happened before. Although news wants you to think otherwise. Chicago has been there and done that
Every Saturday I look forward to your videos! Just a girl from Maine getting to see other parts of the world. You are doing a great thing by bringing our country together and learning about each other. I always learn something from every video. This is what we need most right now. Thank you!
Dilla - you are clearly a smart guy who has a good grasp on what is going on in your community and a good vision for what should be happening in your community. Have you thought of running for office? Chicago needs people exactly like you to implement some positive changes.
Anyone who puts a Homer Simpson tattoo on the same arm as a industry planted rapper who was only playing a character the whole time, might have some discernment problems. Seems like a good guy, but I wouldn't feel confident in his decision making. Despite his intelligence, he could easily be mislead. He still thinks Tupac was a folk hero. Anyone can feel free to like Tupac, but upon not too much research with video, it's widely revealed that was a character with effeminate traits and a sheltered background. Dilla doesn't know that though. If he doesn't know that, it's likely he will be fooled again, and accidentally mislead his community.
Agree @James. Also, from a couple things he’s said, sounds like he’s one of those who “votes blue no matter who”. It’s progressive/leftist Democrat policies that are killing all our cities. So…no. He’s smart, knowledgeable and caring. But he might be easily co-opted and manipulated by the corrupt Chicago machine.
These are sociological and ethnographical voyages! I'm impressed. I live in Europe. I had no clue about the realities in U.S. This is such a huge job that you are doing!👍
This is an AMAZING video... I'm only 9 minutes in, but God Bless that beautiful woman doing her very best to help the kids in her community!! All of America needs more people exactly like her, myself included. ❤❤❤
I can not tell you how much I appreciate this interview, Dill is an informed and wise man. I grew up in the Calumet area in the 60's. I don't live anywhere near the area anymore but there is still a part of me that loves and misses where I grew up and frequent trips to Chicago.
Peter, you do great work! Also, as a Chicago resident, I can say your homie in this one is a genuine American hero. Zero sarcasm. Man is a catalyst. Much love
I grew up in Alsip, IL. I'm always impressed by these videos, and now know their true authenticity. He's presented the area accurately, both the positives and the negatives. Great job. Anyone curious about the truth about Chicago should watch this and the one where he drives with a retired police officer. A+++++. ❤
What you do is priceless Peter! We all need to know this part of America's history so that we hopefully Never, ever repeat it and you picked a good man to represent Chicago's southside. Absolutely heart-wrentching what happened to little Emmet Till. I can't even imagine how painful it must have been for Mamie Till and the rest of that precious child's family. Keep educating us all and spreading the love
Don’t believe everything that hear from mainstream media about Southside Chicago….. ❤ I am a Truck Driver and I was driving through Southside Chicago and I couldn’t make a tight right turn and everyone there in that block helped me and guided me to be able to make that turn safely….. I LOVE ❤️ YOU SOUTH SIDE CHICAGO !!!!!! 🙏
Everytime I go to Chicago I have a great time and find the people wonderful! It has it's issues in areas, but it's a sprawling metropolis. don't let a few problematic areas, divisive political rhetoric and media click bait, keep you away from the greatness that is Chicago.
This was a great one. Dillas explanation about societal changes over time were deep. Chicago gets a bad rap but it looks like a beautiful city. Nicely and honestly done. ❤
Thank you Peter and Dilla for bringing this video to light. I learned so much and am so thankful there are people like you both willing to talk about these things and educate those who are far removed from it and only hear what the media puts out there. More content like this needs to heard. I only wish I had more resources to help continue these stories of true America. Keep up the good work!!!
Where do I start? Thank you for having this brother as a guest speaker. He was informative and positive and showed a great image of what an educated Black Man can do in his community. May God Bless him and his family to impact future generations positively. 🙏🙏
I’ve been following Dilla for a few years now and I’m glad you were able to have him drive you around and tell you his wealth of knowledge and history.
This is wonderful. I'm from Northwest Indiana and am so pleased to see Peter being introduced to the neighborhood by someone like Dilla, a man with a deep love and deep understanding of his community, it's history and it's problems. I felt like this was a realistic and positive window into a place that's received much politicized attention that doesn't necessarily represent the daily reality of the people who live there. Thank you both! "When you're aware you're on sacred grounds, you act differently" -Dilla
my head is going to explode with the knowledge i gained from watching this video. this provides more practical information about the history and sort of "mechanics" of how places in chicago became the way that they are. and it also educates about what the people are doing to change it. i feel like i just took a college course - and an EXCELLENT ONE. THANK YOU!!!! thank you peter!!! thank you dilla!!! dilla, the world is a better place because you are in it!!!
Peter, you're so lucky you get to meet so many great people in this country. Dilla's one of the great ones. That young man is so smart and full of history knowledge. Thank you so much for sharing these great stories with us.
All this diffrent series with Peter is just simply the best documentary way to show people not only American's but people from around the whole world. Thank you Peter for making such a amazing and aducated series, only good vibes, even if it shows everything all from the bad side and from the good side thats reality.❤from/Sweden🇸🇪
These docmentaries are so incredible. Talking with the everyday people in any one of them gives a much truer picture than the media portrays and breaks down so many misconceptions and above all shows how complex life can be but shows more than a one sided version of whats happening. Dilla is so sharp and articulate and truthful about the city he lives in and Peter you have an intelligent and unbiased and respectful way of interviewing. I really enjoyed this .its a real education. Thankyou
Thanks for showing your world to us Dilla! I love the deep sense of pride and love you have for your community. Appreciate the dis-spelling of myths and the forgotten history of the area. From a small Rocky Mountain town out West, much love to ya!
I got to say thank you for showing the humanity of my city because we are more than what the media loves to portray. And just so people know this was a extremely tiny piece of the south side of Chicago, even if you add in the first video.
Dilla championed the insight of the south side of Chicago ! An individual that is well knowledged and well spoken. I grew up in the area and saw a lot of cultural changes in all directions from Harold Washington to Michael Jordan to the closing of Cabrini Green I remember Mayor Daly jr and his midnight tearing up the runways a Miegs Field at midnight with construction equipment. Watch the White Sox and Cubs World Series wins as well as the bulls two 3 peats along with the 85 Bears and the Refrigerator Perry and Walter Peyton. The Blackhawk’s Stanley Cups. Was impressive too. Communities need more individuals like Dilla and the organization that helps women and families get a start with baby items. An awesome example to community coming together. Another home run Peter. Keep up the good work !
Another incredible, informative, and enlightening episode! Thank you, Peter and Shermann (Dilla), for teaming up and exposing the unknown history and injustices in place against the people, especially in the South Side.
I would love to see you report on the good going on in South Chicago. Pastor Cory Brooks is building a center for the community. He has raised millions and millions of dollars to build this project. He has even lived in a tent in the dead is winter on a roof top to bring the issues of south Chicago and raise money. Cory Brooks is a very good man.
Peter l’m glad you had this young proud informed African American brother about history and his city Chicago. His travels all around wand observances all around the world. Keep it positive. GOD IS WATCHING!❤️🙏🏽
I’m binging on your channel while I’m sick with the flu and I’ve never felt so grateful for this opportunity to learn and be exposed to so much I would have NEVER seen or become privy to. Thank you Peter and all of your friends on this journey
Thank you Peter and Dilla for showing us more of real Chicago and the people of Chicago. So many concerned, helpful individuals making the city better.👍
Amazing video! So many times I just see the bad stories of crime and hate, making me say "Why bother trying to help". This story makes me want to do more and follow the lead of these folks working to make their community, and the world, better. Well done!
Dilla is THE MAN I'm so glad you connected with him there is no one on earth better to walk you through this area and give you all the stories and context of history he's amazing. My daughter lives north of Chicago about 20 minutes-loves it there. We visited her last year and visited Chicago during the first week of December -we had a wonderful time seeing the sights, eating lots of delicious food, and we stayed downtown in a gorgeous hotel that had fabulous services. Cheers to accentuating the positives and acknowledging the things that need improvement. ✌🏻
Right On to the lady that works with excons for community and social change! What about the Americans that were born here and have lived here their whole lives! I've been saying the same thing for years. Help and teach the children, young adults and families that are Americans first. Thank you so much for bringing this to the worlds attention on Peters UA-cam channel. Maybe the various agencies and government officials will see this and pay attention!
Peter you are creating movement; you’ve turn my way of thinking about certain things around. You shine light on very important topics that America doesn’t show much less talk about! your filled with knowledge and teaching the rest of us through videos of our country should change the mindset of a lot of people and bring us together our skin color shouldn’t define the way we look at each other. Stay safe
I drive through the south side all the time I’ve never felt unsafe. A few years ago I had some car trouble and I was helped by so many helpful and empathetic guys, I’ll never forget it. I wish more people knew the sense of community on the south side. ❤️
This was really informative! I hope things get better over all and reduce the violence in Chicago! S/o to the brother giving this information! I like the way he explained things
The gentleman in blue t-shirt explains it so well for this senior lady living in L.A. Ca. I didn't understand the meaning and the why's of the "gang" mentality. Thanks for bringing your travels and learning to me.... I'm so appreciative of what you do. May your channel explode my friend.. 🙏 prayers to you and your family.
Undoubtedly my favourite video you've made in a long time, probably since the Las Vegas series. Very nice to hear some different perspectives from the usual guests on your channel. Great work.
Very interesting. Extremely interesting, in fact. The way the history is told about this community is fascinating. Thank-you very much for bringing your guest, Dilla, on this channel, Peter. Personally, I'd love to hear more. Have a great day. 🙂
This has been very educational so far. I grew up in the Cleveland area and worked in the inner city with poor kids. This reminded me of inner city Cleveland.
I rode my motor scooter from central Wicker Park to the University of Chicago every day for a year in 2003, and everybody I passed by along the way (with many breakdowns) were more than helpful and generous. I understand the area has changed but if everybody could just meet their neighbors with a smile each day, I believe the smile is transformative.
This was an excellent video. I have been curious about Chicago since visiting for the second time last week and falling in love with the city again. I'm like there's something about this city that I love. I went to the southside to visit a few museums and an arts center also. I stayed in the hotel on the North side. I like how this guys Tupac quote is from a Digital Underground song.
Love this, Despite the stereotype I think they are generally good people who live in the inner city and I think most of them actually are.
Yes they are good people. It’s just sad African Americans commit so many crimes against other African Americans. I lived in Chicago and can tell you there are places you don’t go after dark. Get off the freeway in Cicero and drive 2 blocks and tell me I’m wrong.
LOVELY !!!!!

This channel needs to be promoted more on UA-cam. Seriously, the things Peter does to showcase what it's really like in places in the US is very insightful
That’s why it’s not promoted, depicting Americans of all kinds as normal and good natured people instead of monsters goes against the narrative
We all do, but the reality is the algorythm favors the junk and clickbait , not the real truth
Maybe these people should be told to stop voting for Pritzker?....May vote republican?
@to8860 I don't know as I don't live in Chicago. Chicago has had issues regardless of who was governor so I'd say it's more a mayoral issue

Dilla, if you're reading this: Thank you for sharing your insight into the realities of South Side Chicago. Just like any place, any culture, any race - there's usually a simple narrative that catches on but it's not so cut and dry. There's significant nuances.

@@jayja6200 true! And very precious treasures they are.

Media tends to be reactive sensationalism, not constructive and proactive. After all, generally, the media is part of the elite, and the same oppressive issues that burden the have nots.

So so so glad you got together with Dilla! I love his content and he is a fantastic source of Chicago knowledge.
This guy amazes me, he really knows his shit and what Chicago has been through. Keep it up Peter!
Wow,that's a universal quote!❤
my head is going to explode with the knowledge i gained from watching this video. this provides more practical information about the history and sort of "mechanics" of how places in chicago became the way that they are. and it also educates about what the people are doing to change it. i feel like i just took a college course - and an EXCELLENT ONE.

Blk men are too impulsive and selfish as a whole to ever change these trash areas.
Another incredible, informative, and enlightening episode! Thank you, Peter and Shermann (Dilla), for teaming up and exposing the unknown history and injustices in place against the people, especially in the South Side.
Bravo to Dilla for showcasing our city and the Southside in a realistic light. You did a magnificent job! You are indeed a wonderful historian!
Did you watch? He did show Pastor Brooks .
Yes, it was there!@@kimihuff7645
We all would sit in a tent on a roof in chicago's winter for 20 million dollars
Peter l’m glad you had this young proud informed African American brother about history and his city Chicago. His travels all around wand observances all around the world. Keep it positive. GOD IS WATCHING!❤️🙏🏽
Which God? The God which euro colonizers introduced to Africans, and you people are still dumb enough to practice?
Amen!
I’m binging on your channel while I’m sick with the flu and I’ve never felt so grateful for this opportunity to learn and be exposed to so much I would have NEVER seen or become privy to. Thank you Peter and all of your friends on this journey
I’ve followed you for years Peter. This is absolutely your very best content. Shout out to Dillow for making a difference. Love this!
When I went to click on this video(love your vids) I literally was saying man it would be awesome if he had Dilla to give him the tour. Incredible video.
im british and moved to chicago and lived in garfield park. loved it. everyone is amazing. ive worked in a lot of cities in the usa and chicago is the BEST
Keltalt omigod, you live in the "hood"!!!!
This video was amazing. I'm 66 years old born in Chicago and this wonderful guy shared a lot of things I didn't know. I'm college educated a Navy veteran but I was educated from this video. Thank you 😊
thank you for service ,first off ,second same here my friend 40 yo chi native and i worked in social justice center and comunity center and and been homelesss myself i learned a few things and give much respect to these guys for putting out some genuine real life content in smart no drama way
That man had some knowledge and perspectives. So few Americans know any history whatsoever. I may sign up for his tour services but would just like to meet him and talk with him. Smart man.
Of course she loves it in the north side of Chicago. That’s where the white people are.
It's misleading to represent it as anything other than what it is.

how is it misleading?@@theoriginaljustcook
Stay safe
This was one heck of a history lesson! Dilla is a walking historian, sheesh! What a pleasure watching this episode!
I drive through the south side all the time I’ve never felt unsafe. A few years ago I had some car trouble and I was helped by so many helpful and empathetic guys, I’ll never forget it. I wish more people knew the sense of community on the south side. ❤️
You obviously weren’t the wrong color
You do that buddy lol I rather stay away from a certain kind of people 😏🦧🦍
@@unknownsender_ The UA-cam comments section is an interesting and terrible place 🤦
This was an incredible look for me into this situation. Thanks to you and all who volunteered to be in this documentary. Thanks.
This was really informative! I hope things get better over all and reduce the violence in Chicago! S/o to the brother giving this information! I like the way he explained things
Huge fan of Dilla. Thank you Peter for having time for each other. This man is giving voice and history to neighborhoods often forgotten.
“Leave space for people”… what a wonderful sentiment ❤ Great interview and video!
I love how much he knows about his city. Makes me want to learn more. Thanks guys!
Dilla is a local legend. You couldn't have found a better guy to spend the day with given the nature of your content.
This has been very educational so far. I grew up in the Cleveland area and worked in the inner city with poor kids. This reminded me of inner city Cleveland.
I'm originally from Cleveland too! Now in the near northern burb of Chicago. I did used to live on 49th and Michigan for a sec.
I enjoyed my time there on both sides of the city. Thank you for this video!
Thank you for this video. Thank you to Dilla and Tracey and everyone interviewed for advocating for peace and a prosperous future for everyone in Chicago, particularly the South Side. This video and the history discussed moves me greatly to learn and dig for more truth about Chicago. Grateful for this video, Peter, thank you for pursuing the truth and sharing with all of us. Peace.
Who needs Netflix, Hulu and the rest of these subscriptions when you have Peter Santenello bringing the best content on the planet!
2nd that!!
It’s the true reality
Dilla is so full of knowledge and information it is kind of mind blowing. Well done both of you this was a great video.
