I lived in LA for 12 years, I never met a single racist Latino yet every single one of my black friends, rich and poor, were the most racist and homophobic people I ever met in my entire life. And I have lived in some rough spots around the world, for real. American blacks are the most racist of all. The victimhood is transparently fake and everyone except White liberal fools can see it. Now talk to me about reparations.

Than I tried shooting and within 3 months I was in a state run rehab that was more like a prison. That was it for me, and I'm 4½ years clean. Went to 3 meetings a day for the first 90 days. Many get their mannerisms and etiquette from their parents. They’re expected to look presentable in the way they look and speak. Parents do not accept lazy talk when they’re being spoken to. There’s a lot more that goes into it but no matter how they look, us Latinos/Mexicans/Chicanos/Pochos are expected to respect elders, be presentable, and not make our parents look bad. They expect a lot from us but it’s up to us to listen.

@@gabim3093 and that's evident in alot of modern day Chicanos, I'm a white guy from Boston where there's literally zero Chicano ppl but there's a big Irish population here and during the formative years of this country many irish chose to fight alongside Mexicans against the U.S. in the Mexican American wars. I think there was even an entire Battalion of Irish-mexican soldiers that left the US to fight with Mexicans from what I understand. Very respectable ppl, in another episode of these docs a guy said you never see Mexican ppl on the corner begging they will always find a way to work and respect themselves. Everything he said before that was to establish that before the Civil Rights era, people banded together to protect their neighborhoods from Anglo Navy guys slumming in the dime a dance halls, and beating up Zoot suiters. Now there's no need. Why have your son be a gangster when he can go into politics and have real money and power. Jose Burciaga at Stanford's pioneering ethnic studies pointed this out to me 30 years ago, and it came true.

@@pewpewTN no, he’s stating if education was able to be pursued in early generation, as many Mexican American families I met date back to early 1900s; it would be much different. Now as far as excuses you speak of, we don’t believe in that. We are very self deprecating in all aspects of our life’s. I went to Masters graduation recently and 90% of the graduates were of Hispanic decent. The Doctorates degree was 60% Hispanic, with remaining being either Indian, Asian or other race. Parents who come here work hard to give their kids a better life. Lastly, many of the parents there were generational Americans. If we made excuses wouldn’t see people selling fruit, ice cream, roses, or taking other “jobs.” Believe in working hard, not “whining.” If whining was the case, people would not be upset that jobs are being taken according to many. As they would be at home on their ass complaining. Hispanics make up majority of the population in many areas in California and almost in the entire state. Yet, when it comes to government hand out they make up the least percentage. With whites at the top of that list. Really have to think about that, as according to many there are many illegals in California with American citizen children. Yet they rather work and struggle selling a rose or taking three jobs from someone else 😊. Really it’s the Mexican Americans who ask for more ✋ outs as they are used to the American way. Even then still make up the least amount. You’re response I just can’t comprehend. Just the same old rhetoric and hate. I’m a director for a corporate company with high school diploma. Unfortunately, as far as I will get in my organization unless I go back to school. That is my fault as I was a young knucklehead who didn’t finish my bachelor but worked my ass off to get where I’m at. My dad is an ex gang member with a GED education and is an Executive for a large company. They would be shocked if they knew his background. Just think he is a crazy Mexican with big balls. He started in the trenches worked his way up. Many nights as a kid with no lights or gas because could not afford it. Made same sacrifice for my brother and I to attend college with no loans. Hard work my man and no complaining about past life or how hard someone has it.

Same is true in many states with lower Hispanic population rate. It’s moving towards a positive direction. Not sure what you meant by preferring to remain Chicano and the negative connotation behind that. However, that was more a movement of the 70s. Most young kids don’t even know what that is. I grew up in East San Diego , this interview made me think how different my life would have turned out if I had not been given a choice by a juvenile court judge. I was 15 and facing being sent to YA (Cali Youth Authority Prison) until I was 21. While in lock up a family member petioned the court for legal custody of me. The judge gave me a choice YA for 5 years minimum or leave the state within 48 hours with my legal guardian ....I was time warped to a small Oregon logging town within a few days. .anyhoooo this was 1975...I was labeled as a "militant Chicano " by high-school authorities , slinging weed...etc.

I'm originally from Fresno. We were the only white family in a Hispanic area. We worked construction alongside everyone else who were mostly Mexican. The area had a lot of crime, our house was broken into several times, and I was bullied a lot. But I had one friend named Daniel who was Mexican, his dad worked with mine. We were all really tight with each other and then one day my dad came home almost in tears, Daniel and his dad were both killed in a drive-by. Shooters never caught but they think it had something to do with gang activity. In an area with a lot of gangs, Daniel and his dad were trying to be better.
This guy just reminded me of him that's all. Even if someone looks scary, doesn't mean they really are.
I'm in my thirties now and live in a quiet suburb, but those experiences don't go away and you always have a sort of anxiety and chip on your shoulder looking out for people who could threaten you.

And even more metals on my chest. And I'm talking war metals..... So yes, I will always say "Our and My" country. To have sacrificed so much, for so long, for so many (And most not willing to do the same for "Their County") I have more than earned the right and freedom to call this "Our/My Country." God Bless!

The very concept of art's definition is highly subjective. What I see as art, others may not agree with. I understand that. But before we have any further debate concerning what art is let me share these facts with you: I am an international art professional with solo exhibits at the national gallery level, I am an art instructor, I am an art lecturer. I have also held a position as a performing arts director at the university level. Art, both performing and visual are my areas of professional expertise. I know art when I see it. By any definition.

Great video! I love the fact that Daniel, unlike any other guys on utube talking about the gang problem, didn't even talk about gang membership beyond what was required. The other guys are always bragging about how tough they are, and it makes them look like fools. Daniel on the other hand, preached truth and wisdom. And he's a good businessman probably, I noticed that he even got his tattoo shop advertised. And I agree that everybody needs standards. Without standards and discipline there is chaos. And the best and most universal way that Daniel helped people (me included) was to talk about his past addiction issues and demonstrating that people can move on instead of just giving into into an addiction. Daniel, maybe you should start your own utube channel, I'll be one of your subscribers. You are a breath of fresh air.

When Daniel mentioned the little things that men used to do such as walking with a woman on the street and whether she stands on the outside or inside of the street is so true. I catch myself taking note of that anytime I have been out on a date to see if the guy knows of this unspoken rule. It may seem insignificant to some, but when you grow up in tough neighborhoods things like that matter.
