Do you disagree with my rankings? What do you think is the best armor in Tears of the kingdom?
Yiga armor should be higher cuz trolling the Yiga Clan is so fun
glide set is at least b the mobility helps so much
14:21 it should be C because elixirs give resistance, while the set bonus gives slip immunity.
also disagree with the hero sets expensive to upgrade and base defense wild is A while the rest are B
Personally I would put the glide set s cuz I’m in late game and still use it the most
Justice for the glide set and froggy set. Quite literally everything casual players have ever asked for
Also you said there was no bonus for the champions leathers right after pointing out a bonus. I didn’t even know you could do that
@@Sapphairis froggy set I can see but who on earth was asking for the glide set? Cool set but not one I heard people wanting.
As someone who has absolutely a hardcore fan of Zelda. I pretty much only ever use the glide set cuz of how easy it makes it to get around. Also who cares about defence this game is easy.
@@MrJonnnnnnie no one necessarily asked for it cuz the sky wasn’t a big part in botw, but it is in totk and it’s insanely useful
@@MrJonnnnnnie i use the glide set absolutely constantly. also it made the upper labyrinths easier!
Glide suit is S tier. Not many people know of the fast paraglide trick. When skydiving with the glide suit, if you push forward, then press B, then X. When you pull out your paraglider it carries over the momentum from your diving speed. Very useful even into end game.
Didnt know that, thanks

@@thydrus3014 100% does work
I've been doing this the whole game, but i honestly wasn't even sure if it was doing anything. Good to know I've been helping myself unintentionally
@Thydrus it works
The froggy armor is amazing in caves. So many times caves are damp as all hell and incredibly irritating to traverse, froggy is a lifesaver, especially with the set buff.
I'm surprised this wasn't mentioned. There are caves that are perpetually wet even when it's not raining. Upgrading twice makes you immune to slipping. And in a lot of caves, it's not always practical to build flying machines.
Also useful in caves with icy walls that you can't climb at all without the upgraded frog suit
Obviously is because why change your armor to climb when you can take minutes to build a zonai device inside a cave
@@felixin02exactly and since it is a pain to get because performing about 7 quests to get 1/12 of the way towards getting that set really isn't worth my time I'll still get it because I have the goal of getting all armor pieces bit it is something to keep in mind which the guy in the video never even mentioned
@@drygnfyreot to mention even the food buffs aren't perfect. I've tried "high level slip resistance" and it's far from non slip. It also rains often and unless you grind zonaite often you kinda want to save em

Honestly the Dark Link armor set could've been so much cooler if it had something better than night speed up. Something as simple like buffing you in the depths and at night could be a massive improvment. Alternatively, maybe it could make Link stronger the more corrupted/ gloom hearts Link has.
Yeah, something related to the depths or gloom would've been cool, especially considering that you get it from the depths
Night speed up is great, I think the main problem is that there are better armor sets that also get it as a set bonus
@@lennyfacebutnotreally3198 Seconded since it's given in the same questline as the Depths set.
My favourite part of the dark set is how the npcs recoil from you.
You should at least be able to upgrade it like all the other green tunic sets
Let me say this: Just because the game gives you other ways to deal with something, like foods for being hot or cold or sticky, or seeds for glowing, or glider for falling, does not determine whether an armor piece is objectively good or not. Maybe we like switching to armor more than consuming food. And you can always eat an attack or defense food to replicate armor effects if we're going to use that logic.
You're not wrong, likely through development they would have thought you'd have some pieces and not others - thus food and armour compensate for what you're missing at any given moment. But, I do not agree in that the overlap in bonuses and sets here feels a little lazy. It's my only gripe with TOTK: Armour. We should been able to carry over armour sets, and the set bonuses are downright lacklustre for the most part.
Nah I disagree why the hell would I put on the miners set for the glow effect when I have infinite brightbloom seeds that I can use no downside. I’m effectively losing up to two whole active effects which is huge cuz you can only have a few and potentially defense if other armor has better stats. I’d go even further and say the difficulty achieving that effect is one of the most important factors in how objectively good a set effect is. You can try splitting hairs between the exact meaning of the words objectively good and subjectively good but all we care about is how overall good they are
@@monhi64 ok, that one is the exception. They made three ways on that one.
I don’t kill animals or eat meat in these games so there’s no way to get sticky beyond the clothes. Same with the goron clothes, in both games they’re a complete necessity for my playstyle
@@MicoDossun Sorry... what? You don't kill animals or eat meat it the game?? Like... a video vegan?
I think the stealth set is severely underrated because it just makes doing EVERYTHING easier especially with night speed up. I’m never short on any bugs, frogs, fish or lizards for armour upgrades because I wear it all the time.
When you're exploring on the ground, there's basically no reason not to wear it unless the weather is an issue. If you get into a fight, you can just switch to a combat set. That's basically how I play. Default to the Stealth set, equip any necessary pieces for whatever weather, switch to Zonaite set when I need the battery life, Glide set when skydiving and a combat set when I can't avoid a fight (usually Diamond Circlet, Champion's Leathers, and Fierce Deity Boots for a healthy mix of offense and defense buffs). I'd also throw on Majora's Mask if I couldn't or just didn't feel like sneaking by.
Stealth set was the only armor I wore my first time playing botw it's so nice
i used the stealth set all the time in BOTW, simply not being noticed by enemies is a huge bonus
It's the best way to grab fairies
@@chiclete1981 and literally everything else
The glide suit should be rated A tear I find it very useful because I'm often in the air.
I think IT should be S tier it makes flying to islands so much faster and more fun
Plus no fall damage is such a nice added effect
and with dive and paraglide again it is so fast
Tbh guide set most used set for most people’s game. Should have been S
It also trivializes air labyrinths. You can fly endless and at high speed.
The Desert Voe set is perfect for exploring the desert tho. With the mix of electric enemies such as yellow chuchus and electric Lizalfos, the set bonus really comes in handy.
I'd much rather it had a set bonus of cold resist for night in the desert. plus there's that weird aspect that heat, cold, and fire resist only go to 2 but armor sets come in 3s, so unless you have the set bonus the third piece does nothing. desert voe is especially bad with this since you can just wear the thunder helm for a better version of the set bonus
@Shattered Mask It protects from attacks now too
@Shattered Mask Yeah
I tend to use the Sand Boots with the Gerudo Voe top and headpiece when exploring the desert, which means no set bonus unless I feel like swapping out the legs every time I encounter an enemy (which I don't).
-Lightning Helm
-Desert Voe Spaulder
-Sand Boots
-Ice weapon (if you need it for level 2 heat)
You’re welcome.
Just like in BOTW, Lightning Helm makes Rubber set redundant. Zant's Helmet also has the unfreezable ability but provides no cold resistance as weird as that is. So in areas where there are ice enemies but not cold weather, it's a viable piece to mix with other armors you'd rather be using. Or just make cold resistance food
Lightning Helm and Zant's Helm have basically no defense and can't be upgraded. That's a deal breaker.
@@MettanAtemI actually USE Zants helmet when fighting Ice Taluses so it's automatically better that the majority of armour sets in this game
I’m guessing they didn’t want an individual piece to have more than one stat bonus. Still, a good setup for snowy areas is:
-Zant’s Helm
-Snowquill Tunic
-Snow Boots
-Any fire weapon (in case you need level 2 cold resistance)
@Mettan Atem you really don't need that high of armor to blaze though the game, especially with how many hearts you'll be getting.
I'd say elemental immunity is worth the drop in defense for one piece of armor.
@@cheke_hs Sand Boots?...
I think upgrade materials should have been taken more into account for this tier list.
For example, the hylian set *should* be placed higher imo
Yes it has no per piece bonuses or even a set bonus for wearing them but, it is also incredibly easy to upgrade it compared with a lot of other armors.
Being able to have it more fully upgraded early on is really good and I wore it most of the time I play, making use of potions and foods for cold or heat resistance etc.
It's just much more of a hassle to upgrade some of the armor sets in the game than you get kinda stuck on some unless you purposefully go and farm items to upgrade them.
While the hylian set you can almost pretty much passively farm it from regular play. No going out of your way for a lot of it.
Also I don't make use of duplication glitches so the time to farm and get things is actually a factor to me. If you can just duplicate materials then yes the hylian set is gonna be bad cause you just duplicate the materials and diamonds for rupees to get everything upgraded and the hylian set's strength is just thrown out the window with exploits.
That's understandable, thank you for the feedback. I'll take that into account if I ever make another one next
I was thinking the same thing. Easy to obtain and easy to upgrade means it's a great budget armor especially early on.
On the contrary, I don't think upgrade materials really do matter much for a tier list like this. This is very much comparing the effectiveness of sets, in general and not at a specific point in time (such as early game, mid game or late game) and even if one set is way harder to upgrade, eventually it will be upgraded to the same level.
If this was a tier list of early game armors, well then I think that ease and speed of acquiring upgrade materials should be a factor. However in a list like this one, materials should only matter in a case like the Barbarian and Fierce Deity Set... which are functionally identical.
Thank god, i'm not the only one. I'm playing this game without duping and many guids and always wonder if I'm doing something wrong. I'm 70 hours in and ware most of the time time the ylian set. It has the best armor rating because it is one or more upgrade beyond every other set. I heard it was so shitty, so i didn't purchased it directly, which I totally regret.
I think the "power players / streamers" and the duping user have an other view on it. But using hundreads of ressources like star fragements, dragon & lynel pieces and the rupees for having a small sitiuative bonus is out of my mind. For "normal" players the hylian set is a must have until the "end game"
@@envytee9659 I don't agree, but maybe the problem is, that such a list makes not much sense. I mean, it would be hard clarify what we even comparing. Many sets have a very specifc use. I'm constantly changing the gear on situation and not only focusing on max damage. The combat is only a small part of the game and even if I could do and eat for resistance and don't think it is a real alternative. At least I'm walking hours in some region to find the caves, make the quests etc. If I would have to eat every few minutes some resistance food, I would go insane.
The glide and climb set would for me S Tier, because they are and stay always relevant. I would rank Hylian A, because it is the first 50 - 100 hours relevant. In my eyes, the damage up on X are only gimicky (C-Tier), because it seems to be totaly rare and random where they really matter. Late in the game I also have better weapons / food; Normal enemies are also not a problem.
But as said in the beginning, we maybe should clarifing what we comparing and make seperate lists for Combat / Util / Exploraction and so on.
Divine helms also add a damage bonus for the corresponding sage. So they do have some unique attributes that cannot be got with other armor. Plus the cosmetic on some is awesome
The rito helmet looks great, and it has the best sage.
I was STUNNED by how well Tulin performed in combat. I currently only have him upgraded and only have his helm, but HOLY MOLY does he hit hard when fully upgraded. Even normally, all of the sages are amazing in combat for at the very least being distractions. Tulin doesn't attack often, but when he does, he goes for the head, which is extremely useful!
adding dmg to corresponding sage seems abit underwhelming to me, since they usually plays a supportive role in your gameplay, wish it could does something more like reducing the corresponding sage's skill cooldown
The Rito set makes Tulin look bad ass 😂
Spoilers
Does the zonaite helmet buff the mech damage? Because it does change how the mechs face looks, so i wasn't sure if that counted as one of the "divine helms", as it works in a similar way to them visually
there are some caves that are always slippery and the only way to completely remove slippage is froggy set so it does have some useage that cannot be replaced
except such areas typically have easy to use ceilings you can ascend through, so the game really gave us a solution that's redudant before it can even be used...
@@remixtheidiot5771 not sure what you are talking about, what does ascend have to do with climbing walls to reach things?
@@remixtheidiot5771 I don’t always want to ascend out of the cave, sometimes I’m just trying to reach bomb flowers on high walls.
there are anti slip potions
slip resistance is weaker than being slip proof, which you get from the froggy set. Froggy you don't slip ever, for any reason.
I feel like the amber earrings deserve a spot on this list. They have 28 defense by themselves
Yeah but the diamond one has that AND the atk up, it's a straight downgrade
@@riccardoreato6661 Amber Earrings is also infinitely easier to upgrade. Just flint and amber.
@@chuckchan4127 true that, but it doesn't look like the list takes that into account
@riccardoreato6661 I think ease of acquisition of both the armor and the materials to upgrade are both worth taking into consideration.
Maxed out amber earrings, Champions Leathers, your choice of Pants and lots of cooked Mighty Bananas = cake walk mode. And the setup requires almost no combat to achieve (hieroglyphic can be found to unlock Master Sword, most shrines are combat lite or have easy combat)
Contrast this with Babarian set... where the F do o get those Rhino Bladed Beetles, lool
First armors I upgraded to max were Fierce Deity (Farosh was pretty easy to farm) followed by Champions Leathers then Amber Earrings. If FD pants weren't so easy to find early game I'd probably have worn Hylian pants or something.
@@chuckchan4127I’m pretty sure we all agree with you on that but we were talking about whether this list took that into account and that’s not clear. It’s probably subtly changing his opinion even if he doesn’t bring that up often
stealth suit is actually very good at collecting critters
Majora’s mask is such an underrated gem in this game. It works on every enemy except for Lynels and bosses. This lets you pull off a lot of farming in mat rich areas that have a lot of monsters and for those filling out the hyrule compendium let’s you do it with little issue.
It actually works on lynels too
@@ernapalooza1981 as long as you don’t get too close. I tried getting close and he sussed me out.
It works on all humanoid enemies. Keese and other fliers as well as octorocks and the golems will blow your cover but you can usually snipe them and then walk into an enemy camp.

The Soldier Set can actually be obtained before completing any of the game's dungeons. Go into the Hyrule Castle Entrance for the Royal Hidden Passage and go through and collect the set, and yes it can be done. I've done it on both of my playthroughs of the game.
Yeah you just gotta break a thousand fucking rocks to get to it
@@jds8438 Still have to break the rocks either way, so that isn't a factor.
@@SonicDraco what?
Pro tip. The stealth set used with puff shrooms, makes you a super ninja. You throw a puff shroom into an enemy camp. They all get blinded. Run up behind them with the stealth set and a fused eightfold blade then you basically have an instakill crit. Literally destroyed enemy camps before they even noticed I was around. The stealth set should be S tier.
But you can do that without the set. They are blinded and don't notice you anyways
Evil spirit overshadows stealth set in that regard. You can easily OHKO silver enemies with bone up.
even more pro tip: stick a puffshroom on a forest dweller wep esp dura + one. then you can reuse the same puffshroom a buncha times wiping a whole camp basically every use. it's fantastic if you wanna go a stealth route. esp if you use majora's mask to make em all gather around for the slaughter before puffing it up and swapping to evil spirit for the kill. makes the game a bit boring though so I don't use majoras for that too often but if you really are getting bodied by a camp and don't wanna use a zonai mech for some reason that's the answer
Glide set is one of the most useful sets in the game, combined with Tulin and max stamina or stamina foods, you can get most anywhere from a Sky tower without needing to autobuild a device every time
The thunder helmet gotten from the yiga questline gives lightning proof by itself, which is super useful for king and normal gleeok fights due to being able to wear either more defensive or offensive armor in the other slots
fr outclasses the rubber aror
I think it’s also important to discuss how easy it is to get and upgrade each set. For example, the Fierce Deity set is easier to find than the barbarian set, since you get all three locations at once, and to upgrade, since you need to kill 6 lynels instead of like 24
And it straight up gives you a nice weapon if you gather the full set. The only real hassle is finding the initial quest, but I never found any hints on where to find the rest of the Barbarian set, so you may have to stumble upon the other two pieces of that anyway.
@@EuroMIX2i found 2 pcs of barbarian set in cave without any quest
@@klein_moriaty there is no quest for that, you need to talk to NPCs that wear Cece's clothes to find out that there are nearby caves that have misko's treasures, but you can find them casually too. the first one however is marked on your map by one NPC with cece's clothes.
However you need dragon materials... which are arguably worse to farm... so.... boring...
@@DLDLDLDLDLDLD You mean you don't regularly collect the spike shards for infused arrow heads? Those look like arrow heads when in the inventory for a reason. Those things are like area of effect missiles especially when fired by a multi shot bow in a specific order. You get 12 of them each time you visit a dragon's back. If you fire 1st a Shard of Naydra's Spike as soon as that lands it freezing everything around the target in place that will increase the damage impact for landing your incoming shard of dinraal's spike when fired next depending on monster health you can repeat that rotation or replace the dinraal's spike with farosh's spike to cause them to drop weapons allowing you to pick the remaining off how ever you need. Other then the lynel coliseum I had to walk close or into the gates to pick up the loot that the monsters had dropped because they all died before they got a chance to get far from their gates in all other coliseums just by using this archery tacit. I mainly use archery in this game thanks to these shards or other infuses that can be used when done in certain orders combined . I only use melee for mining or when annoying things like keese and chuchu spawn in front of me, or well you know about the spanking of a Lynel.
Korok Mask - Helps you find nearby Koroks. S+ tier armor.
fr!
I'm conflicted about it.
On one hand, most people who just wanna get the korok seeds done are just gonna look at a map to find them all...
On the other hand, someone who wants to do it genuinely may feel like the mask is too much if a hint? Too close to just using a map?
I find myself wearing the Majora's Mask so much I've barely used the Korok Mask so far, but am debating whether I'll use it when I really buckle down to finish up the korok seeds.
Given how awful the price curve for inventory upgrades is, absolutely.
Please Hestu I don’t want to redesign my house again to put more display rooms in it I don’t even use most of this stuff I just have nowhere to put it ;_;
@paigey-poo4235 two tips that may or may not help with your hoarding!
1. To get the pristine version of decayed weapons in the depths, you need to have broken the decayed form at least once (throwing it doesn't seem to count?) So, if you're still missing some pristine weapons and you have the decayed version... well...
2, probably more immediately helpful - you can double your house display space by fusing two weapons together before displaying them. Whether it's extra bows onto those swords or some spears on a couple shields, whatever! And then of course when you're ready to use them, Pelison is right there for you~
This strat also works out in the field if you're full and your eyes land on that '???' weapon or a cool strong shield. Drop one you're not gonna use, fuse it to another shield or a weapon you're not gonna use. Bam, free space.
Locate Yahahas.
The main thing about the no fall damage effect is being hit off a ledge by enemies and either rolling to your death or being unable to paraglide before you hit the ground. Super underrated effect by most people imo
Or fighting Colgera in the dark. I did this one on accident. Glide Armor saved my bacon.
The froggy suit is by far one of the most useful in the game. Even with level 3 slip resistance. You'll still slide but the frog Suit bonus prevents that.
The charged, frostbite and ember set may not be as good but man they look so good, all of them are based on the three dragons, farosh for the charged, naydra as the frostbite and dinraal for ember and I love the dragons so the armor sets is probably the coolest in the game
I love how they look, ember pants and shirt +diamond circlet is my go to for almost all situations
Ember pants, dyed orange. Climber shirt, dyed orange.
Mystic headpiece, dyed yellow.
At first, I liked the ember armor most, but then realized that I liked the charged set the most, as it looked most like rauru. I actually feel that having the ember headress(dyed white), charged shirt, and zonai leggings make you look like one a lot! Plus, despite not being the best armor in the game by a long shot, the charged set is the most useful of the 3. Thunderstorms at least occur in more of hyrule than you can find different climates.
Honestly, I'd say they're WAY better than the barbarian or fierce deity sets. With how easy it is to acquire MOUNTAINS of bananas, mighty thistle, razor shrooms, or even dragon parts to save on cooking materials for a longer buff, barbarian armor is handily made useless. Not to mention how difficult it is to get the materials for upgrades consistently. Everything it takes is the worst to farm for. And having all three sets, you can just switch out depending on the area for your situational buff, switching to champion leathers and amber earrings whenever none of the above are applicable
@@ziabyapah I fully upgraded fierce deity set first >.>
Fun Fact:
The Tunic of the Wild set has that defense because you got it for doing all 120 shrines in Breath of the Wild unlike the other tunics which were only gotten through amiibo in that game.
It is also a returning armor set and they seem to have left the defense the same on all them expect for the champion helmets which have lower defense then they did in Breath of the Wild.
Were the champions helmets amiibo exclusive in botw or something? I never saw anything about them until totk
@@mr.sniffly5297 You got them through the 4 champions amiibo in botw and no other way in that game unlike in totk where you can get them without amiibo.
In botw fully upgraded they had 28 defense but in totk they have 16.
@@SuperLuigi1025 ah, that makes sense
also it's probably the hardest set to upgrade in the game
I feel as though the frost set has more use to it than the ember because there are definitely more places that are freezing temp as opposed to hot temp. The only place the ember set is useful, really, is gerudo desert while the frost set is good in the tabantha, hebra, and gerudo highlands area along with the gerudo desert at night
I don't think enough people are talking about the Thunder Helm, and I definitely think it should've been included in the video. I got it really early when I first played because after I got the first piece of yiga armor I really wanted to check out the yiga base with the full set. After I got it I used it a TON when I was caught in Faron during a lightning storm or if I came across any electric type enemies. It was incredibly helpful and I still use it in late game whenever a lightning storm happens so that I can keep my metal items selected. Plus it only takes up your helmet slot, meaning you can pair it with some extra armor pieces.
oh it's a farce that the rubber armor got on the list but not the thunder helm. if you use the thunder helm, champion leathers and zonai armor legs you get 63 defense which is more than the rubber set, you're still immune to lightning, but you also can use the master sword beam at any amount of hp and also can have extra battery efficiency while also having the option to sacrifice a bit of defense to get other effects alongside said lightning immunity. the lightning helm is superior to the rubber armor in every single way especially for end game which seemed to be the focus of this guy's tier list. so it's an absolute joke he didn't put it on the tier list as if it has no value if rubber armor is there.
It's also great because it lets you drive electrified vehicles/use shock emitters on boats with no issues.
It's nearly essential if you want to do a motor propeller vehicle not made with very careful engineering, and even then
I definitely think some more pieces shouldve been included. Majora's mask, for one! Also I personally find some use in Zant's Helmet, getting unfreezable while only having to wear 1 armor piece is pretty nice.
I agreed, similar to the lightning helm, giving shockproof by only wearing the helm, which he did not include. Unfortunately, there were many decisions he made which I disagreed with.
Majora's mask = S tier
Lightning helm = high A tier
Not to mention the thunder helm and zants helm are great for farming dragon parts
@@rednuhTfor real drove me a bit nuts that he ranked the phantom set the second lowest. It’s seriously your best set for a significant portion of the game & looks sick. My only guess is that he personally got the set fairly late. It’s not truly outclassed until you get level 3 barbarian armor cuz the level two has the exact same stats, it only edged out because of the set bonus but the barbarian set bonus is not great unless I’m missing something. If barbarian is S ya gotta put phantom at least at A
Pro? Tip: You can get the Knight Set before completing your first dungeon - the entrance in Lookout Landing doesn't open until then, but the opposite one at the Observation Room of Hyrule Castle is accessible immediately! If you don't want to climb up and/or deal with enemies on the way in, I'd recommend waiting until you unlock the first tower and then gliding over.
Yes, this is how I started the game. On my first playthrough. Having the Knight's Set for the rest of the game has been pretty great XD
And if you’re really up for sneaking, you can glide to the Raised castle from the Lookout Tower (may need a bit of Stamina Food) to grab the Royal Guard Set plus some good "In Case of Emergency" Royal [guard] weapons
The Hylian Set is a great set just for being easy to upgrade - a huge bonus.
I can't even begin to describe how off this list is. Putting the climbing set in B just because there's zonai devices??? How does that make the climbing suit any less effective? It's just an alternate way to go vertical. Also, the froggy armor is not less effective because there's elixirs it's actually better because it's ALWAYS in your inventory whereas you might not have any elixir with you. They should be judged base only on their effectiveness and where/how they can be used.
If you're going to consider the lack of upgradability in bonus sets, I think you should also consider the ease of which you can upgrade certain starter sets, like the Hylian set. The components for upgrading the Hylian set are super easy to come by, meaning you can have 60 defence early on in the game. It's not a *huge* factor, but I think that would promote it up to at least C-tier.
That's not valid because of the extensive work you have to do to even unlock the fairy fountains needed to upgrade. Making any level 4 upgrade NOT early game.
@@Tass...How "early" do you consider early game? I got the whole fairy/trotters quest line done after the first regional dungeon, and only about 15h in. And I sidetracked a but in the depths for like 5 hours.
How can you put the skydiving suit and the zora suit in c Tier is beyond me

Hero of the Wild set was the set from Botw that you get after completing all shrines.
So I think thats the reasok it gets the extra defense.
Also its the only Tunic Link set you can dye which means I can wear the red mail now from link to the past
Yeah hero of the Wild set is my favorite. Makes it feel like Zelda with the nostalgia of the link set then when fully upgraded has extra armor and attack up! Then add to that you can dye it! It's the best.
Yep, for me, being able to dye it brings nostalgia all the way back to the NES Zelda games!
also it's one of the hardest sets to upgrade in the game.
Good list, I just NEVER, put that much emphasis into attack power. I can count the number of times I even TOUCHED the barbarian set in Breath of the Wild and in not even looking for the set in totk. I'm definitely part of fortified pumpkin gang.
Why not both? Run the Soldiers greaves and helmet, with the champions leathers. Best defense in the game. Cook a bunch of mighty bananas for the attack bonus. They're a lot more common than the pumpkins in totk.
Defense is kind of useless in this game tbh because if you are good its super easy to just dodge every attack or parry. I'd definitely say the radiant armor is the best in the game or the Phantom Ganon one
@@thescorpion2758 Defense is the only reason why I beat the trial of the sword in botw.
the best defense is a good offense. can't get hurt if those trying to hurt you are dead. sneaking will always succeed if all who can see you are dead. i think being offensive helps you solve puzzles too? don't quote me on that though.
@@Degdreams Trial of the sword isn't that hard even without modifiers like defense or attack up though
best mixed set in the game for general exploration would probably be like, diamond circlet, champions tunic, zonaite shin guards

glide set is literally the best set for traversing the map nomatter how many sky shirnes you have even better since u can descend faster without the need for the glider. also if u are in the idle dive animation (not holding r) and then press b and then x you get double the speed with your glider essentially having tulin active 24/7 for free
I think the Hylian Set deserves to be at least C or B Tier just becouse of how cheap it is to upgrade, which means it will probably end up beeing your best set in terms of defense for a long time unless you go out and specifically grind for the materials you need to upgrade other sets
I think you are missing the entire point of Stealth armor set . Its not really for fighting . Its actually for creature collecting . With full set you can just walk to lizards , bugs etc and they dont run away . Makes mass farming elexirs sooo much less painfull . Same for making pictures of wildlife. They do startle but you need to be pretty close for that.
I feel like stealth is being underrated. For collecting critters that run, or fairies, stealth makes it much much easier. It's available in a buff form, sure, but so are most effects. You can avoid fights you don't want, and for lack of offensive options I would point to sneakstrikes and how much easier they are made with armor on. There's additionally that night speed on the Sheikah armor which is free timesaving in exploration and combat too. Now admittedly, because puffshrooms exist, fighting monsters is more rewarding and durability isn't as bad is it was in botw (especially master mode) it's lost some value. But there's a significantly higher uptime where I want a stealth effect active for both scenarios, and additionally the Sheikah set is much, much easier to acquire and upgrade than others. Zonaite, Barbarian/Deity, and Sheikah/Dark Spirit are my most used, anyway.
Unless you're in an extreme weather area, there's no reason to not have the stealth set on at all times. That way you won't scare away any animals or fairies.
Those critters you need that are helped by stealth are only to upgrade largely irrelevent armour sets.
Best armor for me is Depth Set
Its passive "Gloom Attack Resist" protects from Gloom attacks. So instead of losing a heart you only lose the Depth sets Heart
Also its very easy to upgrade to max and looks beautiful
It’s pretty nice especially for Gannon which is unexpected.
bro the best armour for pro players is evil spirit or radiant as it 1.8x your attack and if you pair it with attack up 3 food you get 1.5x to so use that.

As someone who likes building the dumbest zonai machines, the Zonaite armor is INSTANTLY #1 for me. It also allows you to fly forever with most flying machines by taking advantage of Recall every time your battery gets low. Within the time spent Recalling, you get multiple full batteries back, which is MORE THAN ENOUGH to make up for the distance lost while Recalling.
No doubt. I’ve been flying the underground’s with my half ass hover board. This armor set helped so much with exploring.
I actually like the diamond circlet, campions tunic and the royal guards/soldiers legwear. It looks amazing and have a defense of 84/88 and one damage up
I do similar but with fierce deity boots looks good and 2 attack is nice to allow for other boosts from food (weather attack or move speed) and I live with the slightly less def.
@@smarkwick7814 I still haven't gotten the fierce deity boots lol, plus its a bit hard to upgrade and Im too lazy to collect this much dragon materials especially that they changed the dragon mechanics
Limited benifits. Once you are on your 2nd line of hearts who even needs defence buffs at that point? At that point you want attack buffs so that your weapons last longer.
In defense of several armor sets:
I never make elixirs, and I’m always short on Zonai devices and bombs, so the froggy set will be useful when I get it, and as for the glide set set bonus, this means you can attack in air from any height to ambush monsters. Why do you not like them? They’re the two most useful sets for traversing the environment in TOTK.
Your low rating of the Yiga set is also against what I think, as it can prevent you from having to fight the Yiga, who always come at just the right time to annoy you.
Another thing is that the Zora set, if I’m correct, not only allows you to climb waterfalls, but also lets you do so from any height, without stamina usage, helping you to reach some sky islands when you don’t have much stamina.
the dark link set bonus should’ve been the majoras mask ability
clearly the game has no problem with a set bonus ability you get from exploration being completely replaceable with a single helmet you get from combat (see: rubber armor/thunder helm)
and the fierce deity’s special set bonus could’ve been to enhance the power of the fierce deity sword
those would've been awesome
Even better: Giving the FD sword a beam with the full set equipped in addition to that power boost..
I feel you should have included the difficulty of upgrading due to the material needed and its worth to upgrading for each armor set. The hylian set, i agree, is pretty basic. But it's also probably the easiest set to get up to max armor rating. Which personally I feel could have been placed higher on the list due to that fact. Regardless, great video!
I actually prefer the fierce duty armor more than the barbarian armor due to simply how easy it is to upgrade you need dragon parts and heinox teeth instead of the Lionel parts and the damn Beatles for the last one.
And FD looks way better than barbarian. Has that classic link look.
For lv 4 FD you need 2 lynel guts per piece
They should make Depths set to protect you from all possible gloom damage, including the usage of phantom ganon weapons. It wouldn't make any too significant difference, but for anyone who wants to main this set it would mean so much to ignore the downside of the strongest baseline weapons in the game.
You didn’t mention this so making sure you know. If you equip the full bone proficiency set the defense doubles to 8 per piece. Still not a ton but makes it usable.
It works great for my strategy! (Bullet time into spamming with high attack short swords and smacking it until it dies)
They can’t one shot me if they never even get a chance to draw a weapon!
there is one thing you missed with the divine helms: they boost the attack power of their respective sages. Vah Medoh for Tulin, Vah Ruta for Sidon, Vah Rudania for Yunobo, and Vah Naboris for Riju. even if they stay in D-Tier, they should at least get credit for that. whether it stacks with the Sage's Blessings or not i'm unsure
Id say evil spirit should be up with radiant because yes radiant has a higher defence but also it has stealth up which in my opinion is a fair trade for lower defence also getting the radiant armor to max defence is a pain
fair point!
Radiant Armor has the huge bonus of being super cheap to upgrade. I had mine at level three when most of my other sets were at level one. Plus, you can get maps to tell you where to find it.
Something I’d like to add about the flight set it it allows you to paraglide wayyyy faster. Dive (don’t hold), then quickly press B and X to cancel then open parsglider, and it converts all that dive speed to paraglided speed and preserves it. Pretty handy.
not true at all
@@thydrus3014 have you tried it? it works lol
14:08 froggy Set was useful in wet caves, but yea that's it
I found the glide set pretty cool because you could move even farther from getting launched off a tower
One thing that doesn't seem to be considered is the ease of upgrading each set. The Hylian and Miner's sets were extremely fast and easy to get to 4* without really going out of my way to do so, thus having far more defense for a significant portion of the game unless you go out of your way to farm a specific set early.
No set is easy to upgrade given the extensive amount of work needed to even unlock the fairy fountains. There is some heavy lifting to do regardles of what you want to upgrade.
You only need 3 honey,10 fireflies, and a bit of building to get the fairy fountains. You can absolutely do it early game if you know what to do. You don't even need to buy any gear because the early game gives you cold resistant pants during the tutorial.
@@zaclittlejohn2701 Er... No. are you forgeting the whole getting the band back together to even open the faires up to even start upgrading? That's a whole bunch of side quests and good luck having the rupees needed for upgrading "early game" and there is the materials needed. It's whole thing that is most certainly NOT early game.
6:07 A- the desert is literally warm and filled with shock enemies, I’m not sure what to tell you man. It’s meant for the desert, and it delivers.
I loved the soldier set paired with diamond circlet throughout the entire game basically. I did eventually switch for the champion leathers shirt for a bit of a mix at the endgame though. So knight greaves, champion leathers, and then diamond circlet.
This is THE best defensive mix and probably overall armor in the game. With a maxed Fierce Diety set you can still get hurt 6+ hearts vs silver lynels. But with this mix Silver Lynels will do a quarter of a heart. It's insane. Add some attack up meals and nothing really beats this set imo in terms of versatility and raw ownage.
I don’t know why the thunder helmet wasn’t included since it’s such a good head piece
You can counteract the damage in hot environments by fusing cold items to your shield, which frees up your food buff to be attack plus instead for the ember set. (Or over way around for the frost set.)
Yeah I always keep a shield with elemental talus hearts on them for this exact reason (because you can’t use the hearts for much else, it doesn’t use any of my other hard earned resources, and looks nice)
“There are some more armor pieces to talk about, but I dont think theyre good enough to include in this video.”
Majoras Mask not being included over the Tingle Set: *”Am I a joke to you?”*
well you have to think about this in different areas in the game because if your brand new you wont have every fairy unlocked with the matierials to get level 4 for everything so phantom is more or less an S tier for them because it has 24 defense in total with attack up so its broken early game then later on they can just get fierce diety or barbarian which is a better alternitive mid - late game
The rubber set protects you from tunder gleoks, while the ice quil set just protects you from ice, which doesnt happen very often.
Ice Gleoks:Miss me?
The lightning helm and zants helmet are way better because you don’t have to upgrade them
If you wear a divine beast mask, the matching sege wears it´s duplicate and maybe deals more damage.
They should do a Monster Hunter collab and have the Rathalos as a secret boss that we can make into armor once beating it.
Fun fact! The disguise buff from evil spirit and radiant doesn’t just disguise you from stal enemies, but also scares npcs if you get close to them, however the radiant only scares when it’s dark so the glow in the dark effect happens
Although he ranked the Ember set in B tier, can we all agree that it looks AMAZING.
it does indeed look amazing
i'm into the style of stuff, I wear ember pants and shirt and the mystic headpiece all dyed red. Looks great functions like shit.
- either that or the blue dyed version of the ember set with the fierce deity headpiece.
Stealth armor is one of the most essential anti frustration armors out there (assuming you are not item duping). The ability as you explore to pickup lizards, bugs, and fish without needing to crouch makes getting materials for other armors so much easier. As such I spend the vast majority of the game wearing it.
Diamond Circlet is my favorite since BOTW and TOTK now I’m wearing almost all the time with upgraded.
The ember set is a flame beaker set mixed with fire attack up in hot temperatures. (If you test it, you cannot be affected by death mountain tempatures.) The glide set not being affected by fall damage is also amazing. There are many times where I accidentally find myself plummeting twords the ground without a glider, due to mistiming it, or didn't know where the ground was going to come when falling into the depths, or was in a hurry to get the ground. It's a lot more useful then just messing around with, especially if you have trouble with timings or accidentally press buttons such as myself. I tend to use bright bloom seeds way too much too, so I like the minor set a lot.
Of course, these are just my opinions given my experiences, and I am not upset at the placements. You placed them there because of how you play, and felt about them. For me, I tend to like sets that look great and the sets that are practical, while disfavoring the sets that help you a lot with progression (like the Hero set.) Each of those is a very different definition for me as well (for example, sets that have more uses from messing around, or have quirky abilities, I place more emphasis on, because I love completing games in fun ways, while doing fun things, rather than beating it in the most efficient and quickest way I could. We all have different ways we play, and I feel I should respect that.) Also, to add some positively, I totally agree with the placement of the
Depths set. It is useful in nearly every application you can think of.
Personally I think the Divine Beast helms should be higher, like above Midna since they can be upgraded
But fellow Fierce Deity enjoyer 🗿🤝
The Of the Wild set doesnt give the full level 3 of attack up, just one level. For that i would put it in A tier and mvoe the rest of those types of sets into the B tier.
tbh, I'm surprised there's more attack up armor sets than not a single armor giving you more sprint stamina/speed (non time specific ones, I'm aware Sheika and yiga armor sets give you bonus speed at night)
it'd really be nice to just have that while running around.
also they definitely need to change the attack armors to have different set bonuses. Pretty sure they're all "charge atk stamina up"
Jump attack up would be a cool one.
But I'm pretty sure they just copied all BoTW stragith without changing anything
Barbarian suit giving the stamina buff, Phantom Armor giving armor to your attack animations, and Fierce Diety giving a damage bonus on critical hits would be fun
The Ember Set also counts Hot Weather and Burning Weather as activations so it can be used in more than one kind of biome effectively.
Namely Eldin Caves, the Eldin Depths and the Gerudo Desert.
If you want the highest defence stat possible use the zonai helm and leg piece and champion’s tunic
To me just using the full zonai set is better because enemies still won't deal much damage and while having all 3 pieces equipped you get 2x battery charge speed of they're upgraded
Better yet: Diamond Tiara + Champion's Leathers + Zonaite Shin Guards
That way, you got Max defense and +1 Attack buff ^_^

Lobster shirt is S tier for the drip
I've always focused just on best defensive armors, but I want to experiment more in this game. I will give that Barbarian armor a try.
Being the splatooner that I am, focus on style first. The zonai armor was amazing for me as it boasted a high defence, amazing mod, and looked incredible!
@@plaidhatter1674 yea same i'm into the style of stuff, I wear ember pants and shirt and the mystic headpiece all dyed red. Looks great functions like shit.
Every time you take damage you lose rupees and since it's only one piece of the set you lose a LOT of rupees.
And Ember clothes are nearly useless, the fire attack up with the extra little flame spinny thing only works when its hot, and 9/10 times it's too hot in the area to even wear it because it provides 0 heat protection, so it only really does anything in like some areas in eldin.
honestly, the bonus of the Froggy Set, should have been included in the climbing set by default. the descriptions of the items (at least in BotW) literally mention how the pieces prevent slipping.
The Soldier Set really should have come with some sort of "Defense Up" set bonus, making it a pure tank set.
I'm still in the middle of playing BotW before jumping into TotK, but i really felt the Headpiece Jewelry pieces should have had more going for them, I also think there should have been some sort of "Assassin" set, that gives stealth, and lacks a night speed buff, but in place it gets a damage buff to the assassination attack.
...you mean the evil spirit set? Because that gives stealth up, a disguise vs stal enemies and bone attack up and that's more or less what you're asking out of an assassins set. if you drink an attack up pot with it this armor gives the highest dps in the game too. it absolutely is the "assassin set" of this game
@@vgpharaoh1344 Assassins have no inherent connection to undead. The stealth part is nice, but stealth alone doesn't make for an assassin theme. Thats why i suggested having stealth AND a set bonus that specifically improves sneak attack and/or critical hit damage, which would fit more of an "Assassin" theme, and would be something that doesn't have it's "Damage Bonus" locked to specific weapon types or Fusions, while also allowing for "Attack Up" stacking. This would also make sure it doesn't necessarily overlap or compete with "Pure Damage" sets or the Sheika set as a pure "Stealth/sneak" set, giving it it's own unique niche.
I disagree;
- The Hylian Set should be A tier, hear me out:
It is the easiest set to get to lvl4, which you can do pretty much in the beginning of the game! I used it a lot in the beginning!
- The glider set is also handy if you fall of a cliff during combat you dont take any damage falling and as a few xomments mentioned: improved glider speed, which early game is a blessing in regards to stamina! easy S tier for me!
- I dont think the Link sets (except the goofy one) should be A tier - but thats just preference!
Great video though!
Ok just the fact that you put the twilight set in A tier is sad, you have to kill a Gloom covered KING GLEEOK TO GET THAT SET!!!!! I don’t care that it only has three defense it shows just how skilled you are at the game, immediate S tier
Fierce deity is the same as barbarian and is wayyyyy cooler.
Wait... you do know that the Divine Beast helmets improve the sage avatars right? Like practically in their description it is mentioned.
Although the Yiga set is just the Stealth set with lower defense, it unlocks certain dialogues and areas to explore along with dropping random Yiga encounters to 0% and even some dialogue from disguised Yiga.

Lightning proof helmet and freeze proof helmet are better than other helmets you have in the c class and they completely nullify freeze and lightning
I think the rubber set is completely outshined by the thunder helm. With the thunder helm you can have different armor pieces for pants and shirts so the defense is better than rubber armor. It is also completely immune to lighting and all shock attacks. Many of the puzzles are made easy with the thunder helm.
But have you considered: feesh?
You can also cheese Ganon with the thunder helm, 5 shot bow and 7 or 8 topaz
Mystic armor isn’t S tier.
Lightning helm is S tier.
Majora’s mask is S tier.
Froggy set is S tier.
Tons of factors weren't considered here, such as the stage of the game you use the armor at, exploration, and different playstyles. I would put the Archaic armor in A tier, because it's the second best armor for the Great Sky Island, as well as the Climbing, Froggy, and Glide sets in S tier as you might not know how to build a zonai contraption to get you around the world or dont want to build one on the spot just to get over a cliff or gap.
Hold up, why didn’t you talk about the Korok mask? Don’t you dare say it’s shit, that thing is easy S tier. I wear it almost at all times during my play through so that way I don’t have to traverse the entire map a second time to find koroks. It is so useful, maybe not offensive or defensive wise, but that’s not really the point of the mask. Just wear some other armor to make up for the lack of defense. It isn’t really needed in the depths so feel free to take it off down there.
Wait, what? You aren't going to be fighting Lightning enemies in hot weather often?
Aren't most of the enemies in Gerudo Desert lightning versions of stuff? Like, it's almost conetant there, where the hot weather is
i thought the same exact thing.
Diamond Circlet, Champion Leathers, and Knight/Soldier Boots give me 88 defense, attack up, and the master sword beam. food buffs for more attack up and boom, you're slayin' everything in Hyrule. Agreed with the ranking, I'd put the elemental sets lower just because they're situational like the firebreaker and snowquill.
The lightning helm is a better version of the rubber set and it should be included in your next armor ranking video.
FD set is worse than Barbarian armour because it’s harder to get first time playing, but coming from the guy who got FD set before the Barbarian armour it’s kinda funny
I use armor purely for aesthetics, so whether or not it’s high or low tier doesn’t matter to me.
