  • Andretti Autosports ongoing bid to join the F1 grid was hit with a massive roadblock at the Miami Grand Prix as Mario the owner of F1 laid down a vendetta against former F1 world champion Mario Andretti. The massive motorsports team with the backing of one of the biggest automakers in the world GM has been jumping through every hoop F1 has set up for them to enter the sport but has constantly been rebutted. Liberty Media’s CEO Greg Maffei made it crystal clear why that is at a meeting in Miami. Today I’ll check out Maffei’s vendetta against the Andretti family, and how the American legal system and former F1 chief technical officer Pat Symmonds could fight through that to earn Andretti Autosport a spot on the F1 grid.

      f1 will always have bottom teams it's how the sport is set up, even in spec series not all teams are in contention for the championship
      what we don't need is another bottom team, we already have these one's, so a new team automatically have to proof they could be at least 5th or higher in the consturctors, if they can only be better than 1 or 2 teams then they are'nt worth it

      @@Lora_BeolabI do understand some of the skepticism to a degree, as the demands of technical development in F1 are different than a spec-car series like IndyCar. However, what makes you think that Andretti-Cadillac would be a backmarker team, and that they couldn't rise to the challenge? Red Bull is sports drink company, and yet they're one of the most prominent teams on the grid. So, why not?

      Miami Grand Prix alone generates about $400 million in economic impact for the city during the race weekend, this figure is higher than the annual revenue Formula 1 receives from the American market through broadcast rights, hosting fees, and other sources combined. Therefore, Miami likely earns more money from one race weekend than F1 gets back from its overall operations in the U.S. market annually.

      I actually read an article on EssentaillySports that the teams are pushing to increase the anti-dilution fee in the new Concorde Agreement to an astronomical amount of $750 million. If true, that would turn away any potential future teams as they would be asking prospective entrants to fork out over $1B just to enter ($750M for the fee, $300M+ for setting up the facilities and hiring the staff). I'm beginning to think that maybe Ben Sulayem was on to something about the teams over-inflating their value, as that fee is not based on any intrinsic reality based value but rather on a projected future value.

      HAAS may be owned by an American citizen, but a large portion of the team operates out of the UK and they acquire a majority of their parts from Italian companies (Ferrari for the engine and Dallara for the chassis). The Andretti-Cadillac bid would wholly American as they would use the main Andretti base in Indiana, the GM engine development facility in North Carolina, and the satellite base in Silverstone (which is in the process of expanding from 48k sq ft to include an additional 70k sq ft). Besides, HAAS lost a lot of credibility for this American F1 fan (been a fan since the V10 era in the early 2000s) after they sold out to the Russians.

    The video is not correct. There are only 2 ways to enter F1. Buy an existing team and change the name. Or approval of the application by ALL of the teams. No other way . Same as in any other sport ! There is nothing special here. Try and enterr a new sport team in any other field.

    • @Grexen-bo6zp
      @Grexen-bo6zp 24 дні тому +1

      The problem though is that not all 10 of the existing teams would approve any new team regardless of how good prepared it is, they won’t because obviously that would mean less money for the teams. That why you see so many people buying a existing team rather than going the long way like Andretti is doing, and is also the reason ever since Haas around 10 years ago, there has not been any new teams… F1 is basically just being controlled by the other manufacturers, I don’t personally think it’s fair.
