So far in 2024, whenever he's finished a race, he's won.
1. Fewest seasons would be 1. This puts Stewart, Regazzoni, Villeneuve, and Hamilton tied 2. Win percentage for rookie winners.. It's actually way funnier (and way worse) than real life - the safety car mistakenly picks up the nearly lapped Lando Norris, putting Sainz nearly a whole lap ahead of Lando (as well as Esteban Ocon), and the race director fails to wave the two cars through, which would be the standard procedure. Only after fierce lobbying from McLaren team principal Zak Brown did the race director finally order the safety car to give Norris and Ocon the wave through - but with only two laps until the checkered flag, and the fast pace of the safety car, Norris and Ocon were utterly unable to catch back up to the queue, with Norris finishing 55 seconds behind Sainz, never having an opportunity to attack for the win and the championship.

Jim clark died in a formula 2 race. Given he was banned from formula 1 but not formula 2 there's a good chance he would have still been at that race. I am currently doing an alternate history if every season had 23 races and 2 cars per team. In that universe with so many F1 races, F1 drivers wouldn't have also competed in F2 races so Clark wouldn't have been at the hockenheim F2 race.
P1: Lando Norris (banned in 2023) P2: Max Verstappen (banned in 2018) P3: Charles Leclerc (banned in 2019) P4: Sergio Perez (banned in 2017) P5: Carlos Sainz (banned in 2021) P6: Lewis Hamilton (banned in 2007) P7: Yuki Tsounda (WINNER)
I still can’t get around the fact that Zhou gets a podium in the Kick Sauber in Bahrain in this universe Edit: And I just realized Logan gets fastest lap in that same race….
I can easily live in this universe. Nico, Checo, Mark Webber, DC and Daniel win the WDC, Max breaks records, Schumacher doesn't do illegal things and most importantly Phil Hill doesn't win the title. Mr V, thank you for this amazing universe, where Danny Ric, Checo and DC become Champions.
If real life applies this system, I think it would be great to have a higher series, maybe Formula Legacy where only World Championship driver battle each other
I was thinking about it but I believe it would turn to be the new F1 Championship. Unless there was a twist like equal machinery for all drivers, less races, also the need for elimination because, remember, there would be a new retiring champion every year! In general it would be suitable as a ceremonial championship and not a really competitive one
Makes a point that maybe only drivers who have won F2 should be allowed to compete and they are then guaranteed a seat, by enforcing a rule that the driver who's been in F1 the longest must retire to make way.
This really shows how good Martin Brundle was in real life, and even here he still could not win a WDC. At least we had George Russell carrying the flag for King's Lynn 30 years later.
He was a decent #2 driver, basically the 1990s version of Perez or Bottas but with less individual success. Worse still for Brundle, the availability of former champions like Johnny Herbert means this alternate timeline would not involve him making a name for himself as a prominent TV commentator. Anthony Davidson would be another big loser, his career in the top class of the World Endurance Championship never getting off the ground thanks to Peugeot and Toyota picking drivers with more success in the WEC’s feeder series (Formula 1, so named because it would lead to LMP1 seats for successful drivers) than he had. He would now be hosting a sim racing podcast, not on TV covering F1.
Based on this video, it'd be interesting if F1 took the Vendee Globe model (the Vendee Globe is a 4-yearly round-the-world sailing race), where the reigning champion is forced to sit out the next edition, but can then freely compete after that. Unless they win again, in which case they are again forced to sit out a race.
As an Aussie fan, this gave Webber and Ricciardo victories, and seems likely to give Piastri one this year. So I'd say that makes these videos all worth it.
I like to think of it this way. They're still on the grid and still get prize money etc. but the championship is more "ceremonial" like a Hall of Fame type thing
Or maybe: former WDC still there without points, but their car still get WCC points, so teams would still want former WDC in their car to score WCC points
@@MrVsGarage That would make sense with things that can't be accounted for - like Felipe Massa wouldn't be able to terrorize Max Verstappen at the 2017 Italian Grand Prix if he was banned, but you obviously can't simulate the race if that hadn't happened, so Massa is still on track and competing just as hard as in our timeline.
In this year's alternative universe championship Oscar Piastri looks incredibly dominant with 14 wins out of 15 races and a 150 points lead (362) over second place (Stroll 206), Seargent is the only driver who will not breach the 100-point barrier. As of now (after Zandvoort; Race 15) Piastri needs 4 more wins to completely secure his championship title.
Checking at the end of the season, I’m ignoring the sprint at Austin, but it doesn’t matter,as after the Dutch GP, Oscar wins the following 4 Grand Prix, as well as Vegas and Qatar, and only misses out on a Grand Prix podium once after the Dutch Grand Prix, in Mexico.
I did the math for the 2024 season in this system, and Piastri achieves unheard of levels of domination. In 22 races so far, he wins 19, with 4/5 sprints, with 20 poles (4 sprints) and 13 fastest laps to boot. He scores 569 points, out of 612 maximum points for a perfect season, 93% of the theoretical limit. Here are some highlights Bahrain - Piastri starts the season and everyone knows its already over. He wins from pole, and laps every other car except Lance Stroll, who finishes P2 37 seconds behind, though Logan Sargeant gets fastest lap despite finishing last Jeddah - Ferrari fields a car for the first and only time since 2021, as rookie Oliver Bearman gets 2nd place and the fastest lap on his debut race. Piastri wins from pole Australia - Piastri wins his home race from pole and gets fastest lap, finishing almost a minute ahead of the competition Miami - So far, Piastri has won 5 races and 2 sprints, all from pole, and he looks set to do it again, starting from the front of the grid. However, in a shocking turn of events, he picks up damage seemingly out of nowhere and finishes 4th, handing the win to Yuki Tsunoda, despite getting fastest lap. Imola to Singapore - After Miami, Piastri vows never to let such a thing happen again, and proceeds to win the next twelve races, with a sprint thrown in for flavour, all from pole except for Spain, which he loses to Alpine's Pierre Gasly. Austin - Haas finds some unexpected pace in the US Grand Prix, with Kevin Magnussen starting from pole in the sprint, and to everyone's surprise, he keeps the lead, finishing 12 whole seconds ahead of Oscar Piastri. The race isnt so kind however, as Piastri wins from pole yet again while Kmag can only manage P4. Mexico City - At Mexico, Magnussen realizes that he rather likes winning, and takes pole from Piastri yet again. The race comes down to the very last lap, but Magnussen keeps his lead, finishing 1.3 seconds ahead of the championship leader. Brazil - In a shocking twist of fate, last week's winner receives a race ban, and has to be replaced yet again by Ollie Bearman for his 3rd F1 race. The sprint goes well for Piastri, who wins pole to flag, but the race is not as easy. A wet quali session lands Yuki Tsunoda on pole, though the race is won by Esteban Ocon. Piastri does steal fastest lap however. Bearman can only manage 6th, and for the first time in his career, finishes a grand prix off the podium and without the fastest lap. Vegas - Pierre Gasly finds monstrous form in quali and takes pole, though an engine failure causes him to retire early into the race. Piastri cruises home to a 19th race win Which brings us to Qatar. Piastri has won the championship long ago at this point, but the fight for P2 is still very much on. Despite having zero race wins, zero poles, and zero fastest laps, P2 is currently held by Lance Stroll, on 263 points. But there's 4 other drivers gunning for his spot, with Ocon at 260, Tsunoda at 256, Gasly at 247, and Magnussen at 246. Separated by a margin of just 17 points, all of these drivers are still very much on for the silver Some other interesting facts - Logan Sargeant finishes last in 8 of his 15 classified races, but does still outscore his replacement Franco Colapinto by 1 point, owing to his 2 fastest lap point to Franco's zero - In his 9 career races, Colapinto finishes 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th two times each, with no fastest laps and 1 DNF. If he'd raced the whole season with the same performance, he'd easily be out in 2nd - Liam Lawson scores the least at 45, finishing 1 point behind Oliver Bearman's 46 - The standings so far are Piastri, Stroll, Ocon, Tsunoda, Gasly, Magnussen, Zhou, Sargeant, Colapinto, Bearman and Lawson
I also was curious and did the math and Oscar would have had the drivers title locked up after Baku (with 7 races and 3 sprints remaining!) and single-handedly give McLaren the constructors over both Alpines after Las Vegas
Update after Qatar - Piastri wins both the sprint and the race, with pole and FL, is up to 603 points, bumping his points percentage up to 93.34%. If he takes the win and FL at Abu Dhabi as well, he'll be at 93.60% - The race for 2nd has changed completely. The gap between 2nd and 6th is just 8 points now, with two separate ties. Gasly jumps 3 places sitting at 272, Stroll and Yuki are tied at 268 a piece, though Yuki takes 3rd because he has a win, Kmag and Ocon are tied at 264, and both of them have 1 win, but Ocon has 1 more second place (idk how sprint wins factor into this) so he's on 5th. - Logan and Franco are now tied on 97 - Liam overtakes Ollie and now sits at 56 points
Didn't think I'd be welling up watching an alternative history Felipe Massa redemption arc when I woke up this morning but here we are. It definitely produced some dud seasons but you've done really well picking storylines out of this data; brilliant work.
for anyone wondering; oscar is currently leading this year's championship with 235 points (7/8 gp wins) ahead of yuki, who has 126 points. the standings as of 13/06: 1. oscar (235) 2. yuki (126) 3. lance (121) 4. esteban (112) 5. pierre (99) 6. kevin (95) 7. guanyu (86) 8. logan (47) 9. ollie (19)

OHHHH I nearly cried when Felipe Massa won the 2008 in front of his home crowd…… 2012 seems to be really exciting and Nico Hulkenburg winning a title is also emotional considering his no-podium career in real timeline. And always praying for a real season where Charles wins the WDC……
Awesome part 2. The safety discussion at the end was really strong - I also loved the storytelling from 12:05 about how well WDC winners are doing in other series, and whether the rule should be changed to allow them back in 😂 really enjoyed these.
I wanted to show that as much as people complain about dominant eras, when you take them away it makes the sport feel... wrong. Also, I think lots of newer fans aren't really aware about the amount of on track fatalities in early F1 and the reasons why the sport needs to be so strict on safety
Oscar has now won 12 out the 13 races this year. If he wins the next 5 races, he will be mathematically uncatchable by his next competitor, Lance Stroll, and crowned world champion in Singapore. If Tsunoda or Stroll dnf the next 3 races, Oscar could be champion by Monza in round 16. Alpine are putting up a decent fight for the constructors, what with having two drivers, but still can't keep up with Piastri's consistency single-handedly carrying Mclaren in the constructors. And yes, I keyed it all in manually, not a great 3am activity. As of the Hungarian Grand prix, the standings are: 1 - Oscar Piastri - McLaren - 313 2 - Lance Stroll - Aston Martin - 170 3 - Yuki Tsunoda - Racing Bulls - 164 4 - Esteban Ocon - Alpine - 137 5 - Kevin Magnussen - Haas - 135 6 - Pierre Gasly - Alpine - 123 7 - Zhou Guanyu - Sauber - 103 8 - Logan Sargeant - Williams - 70 9 - Oliver Bearman - Ferrari - 18 I'm 87% sure that's correct, if the website doesn't wipe my progress I might update this as we go.
I haven’t seen your videos before, despite being a massive F1 fan, but after watching the two parts of this series one after the other I can definitely say that I enjoyed what I saw!
I think the better way to think of the way cars and teams disappear from the grid would be that the drivers who win can still race, but their results don’t count for the drivers. They count for the constructor’s title only or something
Because we have this crazy second mid-season break, I've gone through and done this for all the races so far this season. Oscar is winning by a landslide: he's won every race apart from Miami (which was won by Yuki), and is currently on a 12-race winning streak with 473 points. P2 was a battle between Tsunoda and Stroll for a while, but now it looks like Tsunoda has fallen off, letting Ocon come through to challenge Stroll. In Colapinto's three races he has been on the podium every time (P3, P2, P2), and already has 51 points to the 96 Sargeant managed to rack up until Zandvoort. The funniest bit was when Ferrari, having not competed since 2021, and who will again not be competing in 2025, entered Ollie Bearman for 1 race in Jeddah, got P2 and fastest lap, and then bounced. Or when Sargeant didn't start in Australia, because his car was being used by...no one? Also, with Piastri banned for next year, it looks like Toto's dreams will come true and Antonelli will be set for a rookie championship win!
The good work never comes easy, that's why it's so rewarding when you finish it. You did a good work mate, both videos are excellent and it even raise some awareness about other drivers that didn't had the attention at the time but can have their talents recognized. Really good job, thank you for the effort to put it online
The only timeline in which he lives and probably becomes champion is the one where Ferrari put him straight in one of their cars after graduating from the academy since Massa and Alonso have retired a long time before
@@claudiomichieletto9874 Eh. He still pushes through the double yellows at Suzuka. The timeline in which he lives is the one where either drivers are held accountable for their own safety, or preemptive measures are taken to save drivers from themselves. (And we even saw at Japan in 2022 that the latter isn't entirely effective, with multiple drivers driving dangerously fast for the conditions under safety car and Gasly even doing so under red flags.)
Hmm... maybe a follow up video, some time down the line, of course, where a Champion is indeed able to reenter the sport after 2 seasons break? I wonder how that would've played out.

Luigi Musso: 1 year before death
Harry Schell: 2 years before death (likely)
Jim Clark: 5 years before death (likely)
Jochen Rindt: 4 years before death
Ronnie Peterson: 7 years before death
Gilles Villenueve: 3 years before death
Elio de Angelis: 2 years before death
Ayrton Senna: 7 years before death
I only added the ones who died in F1 events/testing specifically but yes, there's lots 😔
It’s equally possible they still would have been killed at the same time, just driving in a different racing series.
@@dandurrant90 You're gonna need to post this please
Yuki Tsunoda got his first F1 win today at the 2024 Miami Grand Prix! Crazy how it's a first win in both parallel universes.
Yeah, doing a google sheet of this season without world champions and the fact that the Alpine cars are in the podium.

It's funny - in a universe where Phil Hill probably *wouldn't* be the worst driver to become champion, he doesn't become champion.

It took a while, but I found out who the GOAT of f1 is. Obviously, it's Mr. V
it's RPM actually
Yes RPM is the GOAT
If real life applies this system, I think it would be great to have a higher series, maybe Formula Legacy where only World Championship driver battle each other
but it would just become the new f1. It would be the same as only F2 champions can drive in F1.
I was thinking about it but I believe it would turn to be the new F1 Championship. Unless there was a twist like equal machinery for all drivers, less races, also the need for elimination because, remember, there would be a new retiring champion every year! In general it would be suitable as a ceremonial championship and not a really competitive one
@@panossavvaidis6086 OH THAT is great idea
Makes a point that maybe only drivers who have won F2 should be allowed to compete and they are then guaranteed a seat, by enforcing a rule that the driver who's been in F1 the longest must retire to make way.
@@samueldorrington8990 this rule would not apply to Alonso
This really shows how good Martin Brundle was in real life, and even here he still could not win a WDC. At least we had George Russell carrying the flag for King's Lynn 30 years later.
Brundle was a good driver but he spent his whole career in the shadow of greats
Very good idea, looks like I'm busting out a new excel sheet! Don't expect any videos from me on the subject like this one though. I can't edit
4:03 the 'duh duh duh duh' when it showed Jos Verstappen is great
Also in this timeline, Massa would not have his accident in hungary 2009 and thus not get injured and lose his form.

Hope in real life,we will see a championship fight
what 2017/18 Renault engine does to a mf
Fun fact: Verstappen could’ve won the title by 1 point if fastest lap existed (I think)
As an Aussie fan, this gave Webber and Ricciardo victories, and seems likely to give Piastri one this year.
So I'd say that makes these videos all worth it.
In this reality all the drivers would still be there, but the former champions would be racing for fun without gaining any points.
Or when Lewis Hamilton takes out Alex Albon in 2019, even though he was banned all the way back in 2007.
About time. stuck on this cliffhanger for a bit.
Lando goes & wins Miami 2 weeks after realised 😂😂
Just for peoples interest, Oscar Piastri would win 2024 season
Seeing kvyat winning the title in 2015 feel satisfying tbh

Even removing dominance, SuperMax dominates all the records lol
Tbh he nearly won in 2016 and so wouldn't have had as many wins. But great driving is great driving and that shows up however you look at it
Someone who hasn't scored a real life podium actually wins a championship? Legendary!!
Here are some highlights
Bahrain - Piastri starts the season and everyone knows its already over. He wins from pole, and laps every other car except Lance Stroll, who finishes P2 37 seconds behind, though Logan Sargeant gets fastest lap despite finishing last
Jeddah - Ferrari fields a car for the first and only time since 2021, as rookie Oliver Bearman gets 2nd place and the fastest lap on his debut race. Piastri wins from pole
Australia - Piastri wins his home race from pole and gets fastest lap, finishing almost a minute ahead of the competition
Miami - So far, Piastri has won 5 races and 2 sprints, all from pole, and he looks set to do it again, starting from the front of the grid.
Piastri cruises home to a 19th race win
Which brings us to Qatar. Separated by a margin of just 17 points, all of these drivers are still very much on for the silver
Some other interesting facts
- Logan Sargeant finishes last in 8 of his 15 classified races, but does still outscore his replacement Franco Colapinto by 1 point, owing to his 2 fastest lap point to Franco's zero
- In his 9 career races, Colapinto finishes 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th two times each, with no fastest laps and 1 DNF. If he'd raced the whole season with the same performance, he'd easily be out in 2nd
- Liam Lawson scores the least at 45, finishing 1 point behind Oliver Bearman's 46
- The standings so far are Piastri, Stroll, Ocon, Tsunoda, Gasly, Magnussen, Zhou, Sargeant, Colapinto, Bearman and Lawson
I also was curious and did the math and Oscar would have had the drivers title locked up after Baku (with 7 races and 3 sprints remaining!) and single-handedly give McLaren the constructors over both Alpines after Las Vegas
Update after Qatar
- Piastri wins both the sprint and the race, with pole and FL, is up to 603 points, bumping his points percentage up to 93.34%. If he takes the win and FL at Abu Dhabi as well, he'll be at 93.60%
- The race for 2nd has changed completely.
- Logan and Franco are now tied on 97
- Liam overtakes Ollie and now sits at 56 points

As of the Hungarian Grand prix, the standings are:
1 - Oscar Piastri - McLaren - 313
2 - Lance Stroll - Aston Martin - 170
3 - Yuki Tsunoda - Racing Bulls - 164
4 - Esteban Ocon - Alpine - 137
5 - Kevin Magnussen - Haas - 135
6 - Pierre Gasly - Alpine - 123
7 - Zhou Guanyu - Sauber - 103
8 - Logan Sargeant - Williams - 70
9 - Oliver Bearman - Ferrari - 18
I'm 87% sure that's correct, if the website doesn't wipe my progress I might update this as we go.
Oscar looks like he's gonna absolutely obliterate the championship in the alternate timeline
I haven’t seen your videos before, despite being a massive F1 fan, but after watching the two parts of this series one after the other I can definitely say that I enjoyed what I saw!
Concerning titles, finally, the rising number one, Juan, has won one in Formula one.
I think the better way to think of the way cars and teams disappear from the grid would be that the drivers who win can still race, but their results don’t count for the drivers. They count for the constructor’s title only or something
Good news, Lando didn't invalidate this statistic in Japan ...
Watched all of your videos over the past 7 months or so, seriously good stuff
LANDO!!!!! GET IN THERE MY SON!!!!

@@claudiomichieletto9874 Eh. He still pushes through the double yellows at Suzuka.
The timeline in which he lives is the one where either drivers are held accountable for their own safety, or preemptive measures are taken to save drivers from themselves.
