what's even crazier is that the Lions aren't the team with the longest current postseason win drought. The Bengals last playoff win was in the 1990 season.
However the Bengals have more than 1 playoff win since the super bowl era.

There are two fanbases that I have a lot of respect for: Lions fans, and Browns fans. Sticking with these two teams despite decades upon decades of failure and heartbreak takes quite some resolve. And I really, truly hope that one day, the misery will be lifted and both franchises will get rings. After this much pain and suffering, you guys deserve it the most.

I was 21 when this game happened, the Lions had a helluva good team, Sanders, Spielman, Moore, Kramer and the great Mel Gray! Everyone nicknamed the Pontiac Silverdome the"Terror Dome" as the Lions were unbeaten at home that season. This was the season that Lions OL Mike Utley suffered a spinal cord injury paralyzing him from the chest down, while being taken from the field on a stretcher he somehow flashed a "Thumbs Up", that moment defined the remainder of the Lions season.

@@ScarecrOmegaI think it was one of those things in which the Cowboys sole focus was stopping Barry sanders; since the Lions knew this, they changed tactics and went to the air (it turns out Erik Kramer was pretty decent, and the cowboys pass rush/pass dense needed some upgrades at this point). That led to the Lions dominance; this rout was legit (the regular-season game these two played had the Lions scoring defensive & special teams TD's, but the Cowboys controlled the action).

Not only was Barry Sanders the greatest running back in NFL history (but Jim Brown is the ONLY guy I would not argue against, so long as that person applies the same logic towards Barry) but he's also one of the most honest, professional, humble, men to have ever played the game. I was born and raised in Oxford, Ms, about 2 miles from the campus of Ole Miss, so naturally I was born a Rebel fan. (god help me) I didn't have a favorite NFL team, and when I was about 5 my older brother decided it was time to pick one. He's been a Chief's fan all his life, so naturally I tried to chose KC also. He wouldn't let me, until I had watched a little more, and you have to remember there was no internet, so he told me some basic info/history on all the teams. A short time later, a Sunday night game between the Lions & Packers was on, and I saw Barry Sanders for the very first time. Even then, at such a young age, I understood on some level that this was special. That HE was special. I've been a die hard Lions fan every day of my life, since that Sunday. (God help me again)

I grew up in NJ, but have been a Lions' fan since 1971. Greg Landry was my first favorite NFL player. (after becoming a Reds fan in 1972, I also became a Bengals fan) That is hilarious, Adam, about how your older brother a.) decided everyone needed to "pick" a favorite, and b.) wouldn't let you pick his. Wow, that is EXACTLY like how things worked with me and my older brothers!!!
My oldest brother picked the Colts, my next brother picked the Rams and I picked the Lions. (first game I distinctly remember is the Lions-49ers game at the end of the '71 season, which was televised in NJ)
Like you, the choices I made back then as a little kid have stuck with me all my life. Rebs & Lions? Wow, that's rough. Kudos to you for sticking with "your" teams!
FWIW, my 3rd favorite team has always been the Chiefs. One day about 5 years ago, I went backwards through the NFL playoffs, year-by-year, crossing off each team that won a game. I got back to 1993 and sadly realized that my 3 favorite teams were the only ones that hadn't been crossed off. Chiefs last win (prior to 2015) was 1993 at Houston before losing the AFC CCG to Buffalo. Lions last win was this one vs Dallas in 1991. And the Bengals' last win was 1990 vs Houston.
So I can definitely relate to being a fan of teams that leave you with forlorn hope, at best.

One great thing about these old games...Guys making plays and then going back to the huddle. No celebrating every first down like it was a major accomplishment or defensive backs flexing after they get beat, but the ball is overthrown. And no one celebrating a big hit after a 20 yard gain.

*1991* Lions 38 Cowboys 6 (Divisional Playoff, at Detroit)
From 1960 through 1962, the Lions also won 3 consecutive "Playoff Bowl" games, basically a 3rd-place game played in Miami between the 2nd-place teams from the East and West divisions. (they beat the Browns 17-16...the Eagles 38-10...and the Steelers 17-10) The "Playoff Bowl" was played from 1960 through 1969, but the games are now classified by the NFL merely as exhibition games, and therefore are not included in any official stats or records.

Had that Redskins team not been that good, Detroit would have gone to the Super Bowl. I can’t say if they would have beaten Buffalo or not but it was possible. That Detroit team was so dangerous on Artificial Turf and playing indoors. That Super Bowl was played in the Minneapolis Metrodome. I really wish Barry and that Lions team won it all that year.

Absolutely brilliant game-plan by Wayne Fontes. Opening possession, Dallas keying on 1,500-yard rusher, Barry Sanders. Lions start game throwing 8 straight passes, march right down the field like a hot knife through butter, take a 7-0 lead and never look back.
