Grand Funk Railroad is a great American rock band who achieved their peak in popularity during the 1970's. "I'm Your Captain (Closer to Home)" is one of my favorites. But they had a lot of great hits such as "We're An American Band", "The Loco-Motion", "Walk Like A Man", "Shinin' On", "Some Kind Of Wonderful", "Bad Time" etc.
Grand Funk was the most popular live band in the world from 1969 to 1975 selling out arenas globally. Mark Farner played lead guitar, (Bass early in his career), drums, Keyboards, harmonica and wrote 90% of the songs as well as being an outstanding lead vocalist. Exceptional talented front man...one of the best ever in rock history!
Possibly the greatest live rock & roll performance ever. The crazy thing is that they would play almost 3 hours every night, and each song was delivered with this same type of intensity. Great reaction! Subbed!
One of my favorite songs and I love this video. So much energy and all those rhythm changes. I'm your captain and closer to home are pretty popular. My personal favorite album of theirs is Good Singin' Good Playin' with Just Couldn't Wait and Miss My Baby being the best songs off that album.😊👍
Only TWO BANDS ever sold out Shea Stadium, The Beatles, and Grand Funk Railroad. It took The Beatles around 3 weeks but on June 5, 1971, Grand Funk Railroad sold out Shea Stadium in 72 hours, breaking The Beatles' record. Their record will stand forever as the stadium was later demolished. 😮
What you just watched is pure, unadulterated rock and roll. I saw them three times between 1969 and 1972. I think they were one of the top three bands to see live, and I've seen many, many rock shows. Farner's energy was unmatched. He was all over the stage, on top of the speakers and playing that guitar like a man possessed.
Such a great performance! Having grown up in the '60s and '70s, I can confirm that we had some interesting "fashion" in those days. Their biggest hit was probably "We're an American Band," so you may have heard that one. I personally prefer their earlier, more raw work, but that's just me.
What’s crazy is Mark Farner has a beautiful crystal clear voice. This is the only song that I can remember hearing him sing with raspy distortion in his voice. Everyone seems to love it but I prefer his smooth clear voice.
Really playing about with some great early ones. These guys, Mark Farnner vocals and guitar, Don Brewer drums and backing vocals, and Mel Schacher on bass, were huge back in the day. They sold out Shae Stadium (New York) in 72 hours where as the Beatles took 5 weeks to sell it out. I first heard them with their version of Do The Locomotion
This is one hell of an amazing band who really certainly knew how to kick butt and the lead singer he's totally wicked you really can't go wrong listening to this band at all and one can see this fine young lady is totally taking it all in with her facial expressions filled with joy I totally think she's got a good ear for classic music and long may that continue 😊😅😂
Grand Funk RR and Credence Clearwater Revival, CCR, were the hottest American Bands of the late 60's into early 70's. The song you're thinking of is Closer To Home/ I'm You'r Captain.
Their hits include, " Were an American Band ", "The Locomotion " " Bad Time " " Rock n roll soul " " Some kinda wonderful " and Foot stomping music " All breaking the top 40 ' on the hot 100 chart. They had many other hits that broke the top 100. such as " Walk like a Man " and " Take me " .
This is an original song by the Animals (Eric Burdon as lead singer), based on a traditional (prison) song. As far as I'm concerned, this is an amazing cover, including some changes in the lyrics.
As for the attire, we all dressed like these guys in the late 60's early 70's. Grand Funk had a big playlist and everyone I hung out with was into their music. Why they haven't been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is beyond me. These guys were pure through and through Rock and Roll. It's a travesty.
Back in '69 when I was 14 I bought the Red Album and heard this one, I knew it was and may sill be the greatest Hard Rock Jam of all time. I have complained over the years to the RRHOF why they are not in there with no luck. Jon Landau is no longer the Chairman there so hopefully GFR and many other Bands will finally get in.
I believe you would know " Were an American Band " ! Grand Funk " Live in 74 " on PBS. Watch it , It's more polished than this and just as good. Dozens of bands have covered it.
😡I spent the whole video fuming about the stage crew that put that mic up with a wobbly mount, knowing that the singer about to use it was a physical performer. Wobble. Wobble. Oh, and here comes the harmonica. With a mic mount about to break off. What could go wrong? A) _That_ production doesn't have a solid mount/stand for him? B) "Dude. See that big-ass roll of grey tape hanging from your belt? PUT SOME ON THE FREAKIN' MIC. JESUS H..." He had one job. I half expected it to break off as they landed the last note of the garage band ending, causing an unintentional "mic drop". . . . 🎤[clunk] "Here's your last paycheck, buddy. I wrapped it in the -duck- -duct- gaffer's tape you _should_ have used. Your error is going to annoy the bejesus out of some old guy _50_ _years_ from now on a technology you cannot even comprehend. Inexcusable." 👴👎

Grand Funk has been one of my favorites for over 40 years!! One you might have heard before is The Locamotion!
Love the reaction! Late 60s through the 70s was such a great time for amazing music! I'm glad to have experienced it first hand.
My favorite band at 14 and my first concert. Still the best at what they did.

Nice to see you discovering " old tunes " ! Tip : Look out Jethro Tull, Cream, Genesis ( pre - ´75 ), King Crimson, The Allman Brothers ...
When the microphone is headbang'n you know you've got something good.

Wow. You are very fortunate. What awesome memories!

I was 16 when this version was released & it was so intense it became my favorite song instantly. Enjoyed your reaction!
Thanks Smokey 👋
@SwiftReactions You're welcome! Loved your reaction. Your facial expressions expressed the changes/parts so well.

Great song and reaction
Michigans finest !

Thank you so much. I will have to listen and see if that's it but I'm sure you are right. Cheers 🍻
Great choice - they were so raw.
Great great show by mark farner!!!

Everything tastes better with harmonica!
Yes! I love an harmonica!
I bet you will not find energy like this today in any band today, was a different time,no gimmicks just play your sweet ass off !!

We’re an American Band, I’m Your Captain, Loneliness.

Great comment. I'm going to have back in the summer of 69 going in my head all day.
Try a song called "I'm Your Captain/Closer to Home" it was a big hit a few years later.
Thanks
Closer To Home, Locomotive, We're an American Band, are just a few of their hits. I strongly suggest "Heartbreaker," live,1974
Got to support a gong girl.
Traffic -The Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys
Mark Farner rocks!

I love this comment! I'm going to have to re-watch it and just watch the mic.
@@SwiftReactions No! Don't!
It's like there's an earthquake and only the mic stand knows...
The annoyance, the anxiety. Why put yourself through it?
If you really wanna react to a song, then try Tom Macdonld called FakeWoke..see if you can take a challenge 😎
Check out their official music video to their biggest hit " we're an American band ".
