  • In this week's Friday episode, Patrick and Stuart have a first reveal of the Château de Colombe chapel that was consecrated in 1644. Patron and volunteer Donna and her good friend Mary are visiting from the United States, and they ask to take on the cleaning and to help with planning for the future of the chapel.
Join Patrick and Stuart on their journey to find a neglected, forgotten, or crumbling château or castle in France, and then continue to follow them as they work on its restoration, rénovation, decoration, and furnishing. Along the way, they will also create and share videos on their preparation for having gîtes for guests, and an event venue in their chateau (wedding, birthday, anniversary, organization or club meetings, retreats, etc.).

Not only is it absolutely wonderful to see the chapel, but of course, Donna and Mary did so much work to make it live again. As a fellow Kansas Citian, I'm proud of them!

  • @normamurray4450

What an honour for Donna and Mary to be given the opportunity to go through and clean your gorgeous little chapel!

  • @edwardulrich1515

Thank you, Donna and Mary! Upon seeing the Chapel, I was devastated until you performed a delicate ablution of the interior. Now, I have great hopes that Our Lady's Chapel can be saved. You not only have the gratitude of Stuart and Patrick, but the gratitude of myself and, I believe, countless viewers. Your dedication is appreciated and I look forward to seeing the ideas you all have in the restoration come to fruition. Patrick and Stuart, you are blessed to have such lovely friends. ❤

Stuart‘s stained glass window will be great. The artist is in house.

Spiritual spaces like your little chapel contain the truest essence of humanity because it’s where the strongest emotions are expressed. And it resonates for centuries. Your little chapel is beautiful and I can’t wait to see it fully restored in the future! 😊

Wow, wow and wow, the chapel is beautiful, and what love and kindness your lovely volunteers showed to clean it so well. I was raised a Catholic and I think the long string, or wire that you think may have been for a light was probably for the Chancel light. Usually red, and lit by oil, the chancel light was kept burning as a sign of Christ’s presence, and you will always see it in consecrated churches and chapels. As the Priest would have had celebrated Mass with his back to the worshippers, there may have been a simple altar rail. Your plans sound perfect, and it will truly be a peaceful place to reflect, meditate and pray. Take care xx

Isn't the blue sky and gold stars usually on the coat of Maria as the Queen of the Heavens?

  • @alannarae1961

That chapel is gorgeous, thanks to Donna and Mary for all their hard work. I vote for chairs instead of pews as they will have a visual lightness in the space.

Something that I thought of with how the Ave Maria is on both the door and the alter (and as someone raised Catholic), Catholic churches and shrines usually have a specific figure from Catholicism that they are dedicated to. For example the largest Catholic cathedral in the U.S. is the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in D.C., so specifically dedicated to the Mother Mary. At La Lande their chapel is the chapel of St. Joseph. So I make a pretty educated guess that ya'lls chapel was dedicated to the Mother Mary. A very common art motif associated with the Mother Mary is the blue with the gold stars, her veil is often depicted a such in various imagery, so your holy water vessel is very appropriate. Also fun fact for the placement of your alter: if you go to a Catholic mass today the priest stands behind the alter facing out towards the congregation, however, historically mass was preformed with the priest facing their back to the congregation and what we know today started in the 1960s.

So I remember back when you were hunting for a place and now I watching the replay of all my friends

What a lovely chapel. My husband thinks the sliding pulley on the roof may have been for a bell and the zig zag metal piece you found is part of a sickle.

  • @ginny736

What a great job the ladies did on that sweet chapel! It just gave me such a warm feeling to see that a place the early owners revered, held baptisms in, Sunday communions, and weddings and funerals was given some love and attention by these hardworking guests. I know it meant a lot to you too for them to take on a job you just didn’t have time nor energy for. ♥️

  • @ellenpaasch4743

Donna and Mary know the historical importance of the chapel. Both have done an amazing job of clearing, sorting, and cleaning the chapel.

  • @dianenortness2131

What wonderful ladies to assist with this project!
