I don’t know why but the excitement of the ranger reminded me a bit of Steve Irwin. Especially durning their first talk. Always great to see such people.
My family used to raise a small herd of bison, 30-40 animals. They're wonderful creatures. We had a cattle chute system for preg checking them and giving them shots and whatnot. It worked well enough except for the bulls. Their horns were too wide, they couldn't get through some of the chutes so we'd have to give them shots with a stick injector. And it sounds crazy, but you know what I miss most about them? Their smell. They didn't smell like cows, they had a very distinct, rich aroma. Their fur smelled like heaven.
I was searching for something to watch and come across this excellent short on Bison introduction to the UK! Beautiful animals and I wish the Bison great success in the future of the UK. Well done BBC.
We should allocate a massive section of Britain to become a massive nature reserve and reintroduce all our lost species. Ps. Most of the species we've lost have either really close relatives or are still knocking about in other places. There is a lot of evidence that reintroducing all our lost species would strengthen the ecosystem and a lot of invasive species will die off. The rest we'll have to manually deal with. I'd be so exited to see our big preditors back again. Bears, Bison, Wolves, Massive owls and also the red squirrels and all the bird species that will start to outcompete those nasty pigeons.
@@InferiorRaven77 Although your theory would probably never happen I would fully support that 100% it annoys me when people are like but predators aren’t cute and cuddly they’re dangerous, well duh that’s the whole point, I’m not gonna go off into a wolf infested wood without a rifle but it’s still possible to do, all over the world people do it, and in countries populated much more densely than ours. The last part about pigeons I kind of agree with, except that we should eat them, they are so abundant and could really help some poorer families get through with a little bit of extra meat, it’s not much but it’s an added something.
But they were once native! That's why they are being reintroduced. Did you know we have wallabies? And big cats? A few Harris hawks? And even the odd kookaburra kicking around?
This is really exciting! I hope that eventually they also consider key predator species as well. In the US we have the problem of some deer populations getting too large and eating everything because they do not have the balance of a predator species (ex. wolves that many states have hunted down to a zero population).
It's great that such projects exist, so we can correct some of humanity's dumbest misdeeds.. I hope it thrives farther and encourages others to do the same..
Wisents! This is a great project for a nature reserve and could maybe be scaled up to national parks with few residents, though you just know the public who don't live next to them are going to object to culling them when they get to overpopulating an area and horribly starving to death/spreading disease/overbrowsing sensitive areas and the people who do live near them won't much like reintroducing wolves...
Won't reinducing a species that's been gone for 1000s of years puts the ecosystem back into a readjustment, with all other wildlife learning to live with a new species?
Are they trying to reintroduce beavers anywhere? I heard they're important for micro ecosystems. Fox need a comeback too but the law needs to get involved with feral cats. They're protected by cat lover officials
The lady at video's end lost all credibility by noting the "climate crisis" Therefore, there's a 97.6% probability that she voted to remain a political serf, aka remain in the EU. What a shame.
That ranger is very excited to do his job. Lucky guy
Which is surprising, considering he left a country that has buffalo, giraffes, hippos, rhinos and elephants, as well as some enormous predators
BBC never fails to pump amazing content into us and leave us dripping with joy

You really like BBC’s BBC, huh?
God bless Don. He knows what he's doing and is so enthusiastic to talk about bison. 🥰

Hmmm, similar to but smaller than the North American Woods Bison. Hope it works out for them.
Best wishes from Northern Canada,
They are taller but lighter and more narrow than wood bison
I can't wait to see the results over the years. Fingers crossed it leads to really positive results x
With no predators, they should be fine

I never would have thought the UK had Bison
Same

I'm glad these are real natural bison.
They were once down to less than a dozen animals. They very narrowly escaped extinction

I love seeing that little calf running and jumping
It's great to see Wisent back here in the UK, after 10,000 years.
I like 💞watching BBC Earth 🌎. It's documentary about wildlife is adorable and wonderful.
Brilliant as long as you have 3 and a half of them ad as soon as you have 1ü anyone goes nuts.
I want a whole episode on parasitic fungus!
Beautiful animals B B C earth thanks

These rewiIding programs give me hope, that some humans are trying to fix the mess humans made of the natural worId. ❤
Thanks BBC earth 👍
They are now a herd of 8. 4 youngsters!
Gorgeous
Awesome. I love this.❤❤❤
Wow❤
Extra juice through the hotwire, make sure they don't get loaded up with ticks.
When I turn on CC, I can see the Html color code for Bison team.
They are in an ENCLOSURE
No one cares
Unfortunatly you are right.
A very big enclosure, but yes, an enclosure.
THIS is Very INSPIRING 🤩
Could you imagine how beautiful and amazing our planet would look if humans never existed
Yes! Bring back the buffalo! They are delicious!
Bring back buffalo and eliminate the cow.
@@furonwarrior cows make unholy amounts of milk, though
They're bison not buffalo, there are no buffalo in the holarctic kingdom.
How many square kilometers are needed so that the bisons can live a self sustained live?

I wonder if they are planning to bring wolves back to Britain too.
I hope so.
Misleading title as this species of bison has never lived in England, only the extinct steppe bison
This is their nearest relative.
@@paulsengupta971 doesn’t matter, it’s a totally different species that never lived in the UK

Re-wilding our country should be something we should do. We’ve stripped it of its natural beauty and wildlife
Based on how the girl att the end was talking the experiment sounds very biasd. Hopefully they actually stick to scientific method
Indian bison is much attractive ..

Yes, they have several places with beavers. Foxes? They are everywhere.
I really hope the Bison guy is vegan or we are truely lost...
Years of keeping innocent animals in prison
I thought this was about bison, not annoying bloody people.
I didn't see any blood?🤷
No Attenborough ?
My disappointment is immeasurable
This vid came out 5 seconds ago how would you know?
BBC Earth isn't the same without Attenborough
Where from come this bisons?
There is 100 years European project to save them but surprise, surprise... British save them?
