Fishing Cats : Masters of the Water | Big Cats | BBC Earth

- Fishing cats are well adapted to water; with wet suit-like fur coats and webbed feet, they are masters of aquatics. This means fish are on the menu, but these kittens might need a bit more practice before fending for themselves.

Love these guys. Hope they never go extinct.
me too
That's our responsibility these far we haven't taken care of what we were supposed to take care of we are quite obviously not the most intelligent nor the most essential creatures
All of us one day will. That's the nature of time
@@thewinusa bruh you have commented on literally every bbc earth video come on get a *life*.
@@kellyrobar8517 Sorry but that's such a stupid comment. Humans are objectively the most intelligent animal, and there's no obligation to take care of other species - we just do it because we want to. You don't see dolphins or chimps deciding to save other species from extinction do you?
The babies are sooo adorable! Our team got on camera other adorable big cats, baby snow leopards! Snow leopards are rarely caught on camera because it isn’t easy to film at an altitude of 5,000m, but our camera crew in the Himalayas did just that. Their footage of a snow leopard mom and her two cubs gives unique insights into these mysterious animals’ lives.
It’s because of people like you, that give us humans insight into the ever-elusive snow leopard’s lives. You educate and teach us so that we can go forward with the information and understanding of why we need to protect them.
🙏 I thank you for every millisecond of film you were able to capture of the snow leopards. They’re my favorite animal because of y’all. I know it’s not easy to hike up there, track, sleep, wait, watch, and film. But you do it and I appreciate you! 🎥 🎞️ 🐆🩶
What an exciting if not mildly terrifying job to have! Lovely footage!
I would like to give a huge thanks to all those people who are involved in capturing such amazing videos and publishing them to people watching them at home. How fascinating is the fact that there are people involved who are putting efforts in putting cameras and themselves with huge lenses in the conditions, only to capture movie like moments in such a high quality. Then, the editors also putting efforts to compile into such beautiful journeys and stories.
Thanks a lot to such Photographers, Videographers, Cinematographers, Video Editors, etc 👏👏👏
I totally agree! You worded it perfectly👏
It’s because of people like them, that give us humans insight into ever-elusive animal’s lives. They educate and teach us so that we can go forward with the information and understanding of why we need to protect them.
🙏 I thank them for every millisecond of film… (especially what they were able to capture of the snow leopards. They’re my favorite animal because of their film/documentaries). I know it’s not easy to get to these places, hike wherever, track the animals, sleep, wait, watch, and film. But they do it and I so appreciate it! 🎥 🎞️🩶
Love the look of Mum seeing what kind of "fish" the kittens achieved to catch!
I remember catching something similar when I was learning how to fish...
Only those who adapt Survive, Respect the Fishing Cats.
I love BBC Earth! I’m awed as to how they’re able to capture these amazing videos!
Fishing Cats are awesome. They're basically only found in Sri Lanka and the greater Indian subcontinent, southern tropical regions. Very endangered by habit loss from massive urban sprawl and human population density where they naturally reside. They also used to be killed by local fisherman out of frustration they were eating the fish and tall tales about attacking people. Some non-profit organizations go into small towns and villages adjacent to wetlands and forests to educate the locals on preservation, coexistence and that they pose no danger to humans. If I recall correctly they were recently protected in Sri Lanka as well. It would be a terrible shame to lose such a unique and relatively unknown animal.
Those kittens are so adorable! 🥰
So much work put behind this and I get to see it all for free.
Wish I had a fishing cat. They'd just bring you a half eaten fish instead of frogs, bluejays, and assorted rodents.
My cats also bring mole crickets and giant grasshoppers lol
@@kill_frenzy666 I had a bobcat, Fred, adopt me years back when I lived in the country. It would bring pheasant, rabbits, and it even brought me an eagle once. Fred used to sleep in the house during the daytime hours. He was an incredible wild housecat.
@@andrewmunz4443 Amazing! Dinner sorted :)
On top of that, giving them a shower must be a breeze
Hahaha 😆 right ✅️
They are so cute ❤
They are beautiful cats 🐈😻❤
The purring at 1:27 😻😻😻
"Mom, look I caught a camera"
Fishing cat, beautiful creature... More like a bob cat but a bit slimmer and agile fish hunters, loved the kittens pulling the plant out of the water 🤗😁
Smart kittens, catching some vegetables to go with the fish.
😂😂
What does the cat say after making a joke? "Just kitten!"
Hahaha 😊
Beautiful ferocious cat
Fantastic photography and the microphone even picked the purring of the kits at the waters edge. Good old BBC.
Watching these wildlife documentaries amazes me. Cats are said to dislike water but fishing cats. So sure-footed and fast
I love Fishing Cats, but they are not easy to keep as pets, like how we keep normal house cats, in our home.
They are bigger in size, which is somewhere between a house cat and a leopard. But they look so beautiful.😊❤
@@thewinusa Well said. So true. 😊😊
I thought he was gon’ catch him a big o dang Cat Fish ma’en 😂❤
My favorite animal, love these guys.
Amazing photography and audio! I enjoyed the sound of the mother cat's rumbling encouraging purrs and the kitten mews, both sounds being very familiar to me. The Fishing Cats"wetsuit" under their outer fur, the way the kittens took to the water, the perfect fish capture are so cool and fascinating. Thank you for sharing this!
Those floating plants are water hyacinths, native to South America. They've been introduced around the world where they've become invasive disruptors of wetland ecologies as well as serious nuisances to human activities. But they have pretty flowers, right?
0:30 eeww what kind of serial killer meow was that??
Seeing a cat fish, is a lot different than a seeing a catfish.
This is such an incredibly rewarding moment ... can't beat the BBC Team!
Good kitty
3:52 the look of disappointment. I've seen that a face a million times before. Sorry mom
The fishing cat is beautiful and cute ❤
Kittens are, kittens do. Mother's voice, first ever time personally, sounds... say, bizarre, making a unique contrast to that of mom cheetah like a bird chirrup!
I thought it was just a title. There really is a cat named fishing cat. Here is a paragraph from Wikipedia article:
The fishing cat (Prionailurus viverrinus) is a medium-sized wild cat of South and Southeast Asia. Since 2016, it is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. Fishing cat populations are threatened by destruction of wetlands and have declined severely over the last decade. The fishing cat lives foremost in the vicinity of wetlands, along rivers, streams, oxbow lakes, in swamps, and mangroves.
The fishing cat is the state animal of West Bengal.
Give a kitten a fish, they'll eat for a day. Teach a kitten to fish, and they'll terrorize the water plants... lol
The mother face at the end xD
Dawwww, Cuties in the wild.
Love thisvideo they are wonderful animals ❤thankyou for the video
i wonder how do they film these kind of footage ?????😮😮😮😮 ...really awesome efforts to the entire team
wow ….AAAA++++++ on thevideo footage !!!!!!!!outstanding
I love all cats .I love the nature . I
didn't know about these cats
Thank you for such amazing images.
Best natural wild animals
Quality Content! #Nature
They Are Beautiful ❤️.
Love These Videos.
These are not your Neighborhood Cats 😂
beautiful cats
😂😂😂
What made the cat upgrade his phone? He wanted to finally get pawtrait mode.
Why are kittens actually excellent bosses? They have great littership.

wonderful video!
Wish I a cat that was like them and and there’s that other wild cat look awesome could never keep them just come and say hello every now and then
Thanks BBC earth 👍
Yippeee
Lovely kittens 😍😍😍❤
So Amazing. .it is the sate animal of west bengal
They don't even know that cats hate water.
Just see the mother's las look again lol She entirely feels hopeless for the future of wildlife and the eco-system!
Wow I love this I mean how I wish to work in this documentary thing😉
Best nature in this chane
They are rare animal and their poppulation plummet now due to habitat loss by transformation to agricutural area or accommodation zone.
Any known fishing cat in Malaysia? We have a lot of mangroves here
Why do most wild cats have round pupils while all domesticated house cats have vertical slits for pupils?
It's a hard question to answer and there's a good amount of debate over it you should look it up and see which view point you believe the most
@@wxbrainiac When you say I "should look it up", I have invested some time in trying to do so. The best I could ever get is why we still have tabby cats even when their parents are not tabby's. I was hoping for a quick answer from someone in the know when it came to the eyes. Also, if a cat with round pupils breads with a domesticated cat with slit pupils...what do the pupils of the offspring look like?
@@FishHeadSalad yeah its a cloudy subject with not much info a few sources I read said it had to do with what parts of the cats vision is blurry and domesticated cats not needing to seeing a large area so they instead only focus on what's directly in front of them it's hard to say what the real answer to your question is but it sure is an interesting topic
Because they are different subspecies and selectively bred
@@Returntonature145 Not true.
For the eyes, Google:
Why Domestic Cats Have Slit Pupils And Big Cats Don't
and go to the Tech Times link.
As to being a subspecies, make of this what you will.
"The domestic cat is arbitrarily considered either as a subspecies of F. silvestris (Felis silvestris catus) or as a distinct species (Felis catus)".

I am a cat lover, have 3 tuxedo cats n my boys aren't afraid of the water,I think it is the we bring our feline fur babies up.!!!??
This gives me a Pokemon idea...
Beautiful Cats 💖 All Praises to the Most High YAH 🙏🏾🧡
Where is this filmed?
Where do they drink water if it's their first time to see water?
Milk...
They drank their mother's milk,it should be obvious that they'd never drank water before as this is their first time seeing it
I thought cats of all kind hate water.
Hum hum hum interesting 1 to watch.....
... so u bought a big fish n stake it for this video shoot?
Fish never struggled when bitten by cat, looks like you guys put in a dead fish.
Poor baby 😁😍
If in future we find a hostile planet with life, the colonization plan should start with throwing a couple of cats there. They will survive and thrive.
Very HARD TO HEAR turn up the volume on your end PLEASE!!!!
Fishing cats??
Kenya 🎉 africa
Hope we don't kill these the best creatures too

❤❤❤❤❤
Very cool video, but I have to say. The audio quality is really bad.
Sounds perfectly clear and fine on my end.
It is clear, but the bass is softer which makes it less cinematic.

Fish didnt move at all.. Looks like dead fish.Well scripted..
