He deserves his place as the greatest frontman of my generation, and it kills me he doesn't have that. I so want him to. I think that stupid rock star show tainted their legacy. They were on heavy rotation on MTV back in the 80s. Michael was so sexy and mesmerizing. Def died way too soon. Might I recommend the version of this of him singing live sitting on a piano! It's from Later With Jools Holland 1994... It's amazing. He's amazing!
Michael Hutchence has what I would consider to be a definitive baritone voice, and he had amazing control over it, nailing quiet moments like this song and then really utilizing a great deal of power when a song called for it. And there was no studio trickery; he was every bit as amazing live as he was on record, while at the same time demonstrating perhaps the greatest stage presence in history. Time has unfortunately not been kind to the INXS legacy, as evident by the fact that you had never heard of them nor were sure how to pronounce their name. And there were points in the 80s and early 90s when they were THE biggest band on the planet, a stake which very few acts can legitimately lay claim to. I’m always grateful to see reactions like these because it gives me hope that people will discover their greatness and Michael can be recognized alongside Mercury, Plant, Jagger, et al as one of the greatest frontmen of all time. One of the really great things about INXS is that no songs of theirs sound the same, and yet they all still manage to sound like INXS. For a good introduction to their catalog, I would recommend: Don’t Change: one of their earlier songs, but of all their music, it’s the one that manages to still pop up in random spots today. Tons of bands have covered it, and it’s appeared in lots of movies. What You Need: It’d be hard to pick a “definitive” INXS song, but I think this one might come the closest. The studio version is great, but it really thrives in concert. They played with the arrangement quite a bit over the years; my favorites are from the 1987 Australian Made show, the 1991 Wembley Stadium show, the 1994 Great Music Experience concert, or the 1997 5 Meter sessions show. All are available on UA-cam. Need You Tonight: Their biggest hit, a funky, sexy number that’s a good one to play if you want to get people dancing. Not Enough Time: Maybe their best song, although not nearly as well known as it should be. It’s a slower, mid-tempo groove that highlights the rhythm section. Searching: The version from the 1996 Aria Music Awards is maybe Michael’s strongest vocal performance. You can sense the anguish and frustration and fear in an absolutely amazing performance. Seems a simple song and is covered by many, but mastered by few. Few are able to create the emotion and texture of Michael. Most over sing it destroying it's beauty. Filmed in beautifull Prague and in the style of a Viennese waltz. INXS are a fantastic Aussie band, one of the biggest bands in the world at this time and regarded as the best live band Ind the world at this time. Their 1991 concert at Wembley is phenomenal! In excess is the pronunciation. This is one was my Senior Prom theme. It's probably their most pop like songs but you're right, the composition and his voice push this over the top. It's a rabbit hole worth diving in. Mid 80s to mid 90s the were red hot. They also had a concert at Wembly I've seen pieces of on here. They should have lasted longer but singer Michael Hutchense passed away way too early.
They have so many hits, you should definitely dive into their catalogue. Most of their other hits are more funky and rocking, they were a very versatile band, with an amazing singer.

Incredible band and probably the loudest concert I’ve ever attended (this coming from a guy who’s gone to a bunch of metal shows). Suicide Blond, New Sensation are a couple of great tunes.
Lead singer Michael Hutchence was thought to be the next Jim Morrison as far as charisma went. He was loaded with it! Unfortunately he had a head injury which changed his personality and he had a lot of depression. He was found deceased in a hotel room in 1997, looking like accidental asphyxiation. INXS tried going on but gave it up a few years later. I think their sax player was amazing. Next INXS would be What You Need, live at Wembley, 1991. It's a banger but not haunting like this one was. Best line in this one was ... But if I hurt you... I'd make wine from your tears. Michael wrote the lyrics.
Officially deemed suicide, the other stuff is rumour and speculation by people that had no way of knowing. The coroner had all the evidence and expertise.

I am surprised you have not heard of them before. INXS is In Excess. They started as school friends in the pianist's garage and travelled Australia working in the hard pub scenes of regional and outback Australia before being known on the international scene. Michael Hutchence is the lead singer and sadly died from auto-erotica having been found in Sydney's Carlton Ritz hotel hung on the inside of the room door's knob (like Robin Williams). His funeral was so big it is on youtube. It happened when he was 37 in 1997. He was one month older than me. He had an affair with Paula Yates, and she was the ex-wife of Sir Bob Geldof of FEED THE WORLD fame. They had a little girl called Tiger Lily (now a woman). There is quite a bit of INXS and Michael on youtube. In America in the late 80's and into the 90's they were on many shows like MTV, Rosie O'Donnell, Saturday Night Live, Hard Rock LA, but the big concert was the Wembley Stadium in London in 1991. Their last international concert was in Colorado in July 1997 and that is on here too. Michael was regarded as a Rock God and some say the best front man ever!! They had a reputation back then as being the best live rock band in the world. I just watched your "Frankenstein" reaction. If you loved that, you'll also love "Hocus Pocus" by Focus, live 1973, from The Midnight Special. The most fun you'll have watching a live performance. Like Frankenstein, Hocus Pocus is an instrumental, however it does have vocals, just not lyrics. You have to see it to know what I mean. Also, like Edgar Winter, Thijs van Leer(vocalist, keyboards, among other things) is a multi-instrumentalist.

Check out “New Sensation” and anything else off their “Kick” album. It was massive. I used to have their “Listen Like Thieves” album too and it was great also. They were so good that you really can’t go wrong picking a song, I first saw/heard them early in their career on MTV with hit songs like “Don’t Change The World” ( still a favorite of mine) and “The One Thing”
As a long time fan of INXS, the most frustrating part of the reaction community is that most people’s first songs are either Never Tear Us Apart or Need You Tonight. Both are great songs, but not AT ALL representative of the band’s music as a whole, and especially their most potent attribute as a live band. Where I'm from originallywe called the band In Excess. DJs on the local radio stations pronouced it that way too. I guess we'd have to ask the band to be sure. Unless there's some interview footage somewhere with them and they say the band name.

This is one was my Senior Prom theme. It's probably their most pop like songs but you're right, the composition and his voice push this over the top. It's a rabbit hole worth diving in. Mid 80s to mid 90s the were red hot. They also had a concert at Wembly I've seen pieces of on here.
They should have lasted longer but singer Michael Hutchense passed away way too early.
They have so many hits, you should definitely dive into their catalogue. Most of their other hits are more funky and rocking, they were a very versatile band, with an amazing singer.

Lead singer Michael Hutchence was thought to be the next Jim Morrison as far as charisma went. He was loaded with it! Unfortunately he had a head injury which changed his personality and he had a lot of depression. He was found deceased in a hotel room in 1997, looking like accidental asphyxiation. INXS tried going on but gave it up a few years later. I think their sax player was amazing. Next INXS would be What You Need, live at Wembley, 1991. It's a banger but not haunting like this one was. Best line in this one was ... But if I hurt you... I'd make wine from your tears. Michael wrote the lyrics.
Officially deemed suicide, the other stuff is rumour and speculation by people that had no way of knowing. The coroner had all the evidence and expertise.

I am surprised you have not heard of them before. INXS is In Excess. They started as school friends in the pianist's garage and travelled Australia working in the hard pub scenes of regional and outback Australia before being known on the international scene. Michael Hutchence is the lead singer and sadly died from auto-erotica having been found in Sydney's Carlton Ritz hotel hung on the inside of the room door's knob (like Robin Williams). His funeral was so big it is on youtube. It happened when he was 37 in 1997. He was one month older than me. He had an affair with Paula Yates, and she was the ex-wife of Sir Bob Geldof of FEED THE WORLD fame. They had a little girl called Tiger Lily (now a woman). There is quite a bit of INXS and Michael on youtube. In America in the late 80's and into the 90's they were on many shows like MTV, Rosie O'Donnell, Saturday Night Live, Hard Rock LA, but the big concert was the Wembley Stadium in London in 1991. Their last international concert was in Colorado in July 1997 and that is on here too. Michael was regarded as a Rock God and some say the best front man ever!! They had a reputation back then as being the best live rock band in the world.

I just watched your "Frankenstein" reaction. If you loved that, you'll also love "Hocus Pocus" by Focus, live 1973, from The Midnight Special. The most fun you'll have watching a live performance. Like Frankenstein, Hocus Pocus is an instrumental, however it does have vocals, just not lyrics. You have to see it to know what I mean. Also, like Edgar Winter, Thijs van Leer(vocalist, keyboards, among other things) is a multi-instrumentalist.

Check out “New Sensation” and anything else off their “Kick” album. It was massive. I used to have their “Listen Like Thieves” album too and it was great also. They were so good that you really can’t go wrong picking a song, I first saw/heard them early in their career on MTV with hit songs like “Don’t Change The World” ( still a favorite of mine) and “The One Thing”
As a long time fan of INXS, the most frustrating part of the reaction community is that most people’s first songs are either Never Tear Us Apart or Need You Tonight. Both are great songs, but not AT ALL representative of the band’s music as a whole, and especially their most potent attribute as a live band.
Can we make a rule that all reactor’s first INXS song be New Sensation live from Wembley Stadium? If any song/performance captures their essence, that’s the one. Seconded? Great, then we all agree!

This is my favorite INXS song. I used to sing it for my wife of 39 years who passed away on 8/9/2024 from a sudden catastrophic stroke at just 58 years old. We just laid her to rest yesterday. I’m still in shock and total disbelief. 😢✝️ “Need You Tonight” is awesome and my go to Karaoke song. 😂 And a really sweet song “Beautiful Girl” is a favorite of mine also.

Where I'm from originallywe called the band In Excess. DJs on the local radio stations pronouced it that way too. I guess we'd have to ask the band to be sure. Unless there's some interview footage somewhere with them and they say the band name.

I do remember the singer took his own life during what I believe was the height of their success. Idk when this song came out but it wouldn't surprise to learn they are very close to each other.
