Living in Chicago I was surprised and pleased to see that you used Hausermann's as your example of an orchid nursery. They are just outside of the city, and have a great selection of orchids and also potting necessities. Those folks in the US -- give them a try. Enjoy, stay well. --DK--
My sogo vivien does really well for me, I've never had any issues and treat it just like my other phals. It's producing a spike at the moment. The flowers on the sogo are very colorful so if that's more your thing, then I'd say look for the sogo vivien. That said, I love the look of the white flowers against the variegated leaves! I'm going to have to find myself an amabilis now.
The closest orchid nursery to me is about 4-5 hours away. Sometimes the big box stores get a few in, but never interesting/different ones. I get rather bored seeing the same ones all the time. And as you know the shipping on live plants is outrages. Many times the shipping cost is more than the price of the orchid.
I love tropical foliage and actually came to love orchids first because of so many wonderful leaves, sooo this is a video for me! Thank you! Here’s a question I bet you don’t get every day: how could I *prevent* a phal. Bulbophyllum (?) from blooming? Their foliage is so dramatic, but I understand the scent of their blooms is repulsive. Maybe I could prevent this? What do you think?
Hi Danny, love this video and I'm also in love with the novelty Phals. I purchased four already and just placed an order today for 2 more! Thank you for introducing these to us! 😍
Totally agree. There’s much green around my window sills but little colour. This should have been obvious but I guess we just need reminding. Thank you as always!
My sogo vivien variagated is in spike now! 😍 I think I might have to get the schilleriana though... thanks Danny for all that you do for the orchid community!
Danny: I have a Sogo Vivien "Leaf's Edge" and it is doing quite well. Got it from Hausermann (USA) at a pretty decent price for an orchid in spike. Flowers are just darling!
I really, really, really, really haven’t room for more orchids. Ohhhh go on then, twist my arm, just two or three more!😂😂Nice looking Phals. Love the Gigantea leaves.
I have a Sogo Vivien. It's been doing perfectly fine. Also saw a Stuartiana (hybrid?) at the hardware store a couple months ago, so they're definitely still out and about!
Oh great, as if I hadn't enough already, I now have more orchids on my planticorn wishlist!! 😅 I loved them. Could you please do a similar video for other orchid genera? I'm trying to either get fragrant orchids or orchids with interesting leaves. Thank you and have a wonderful weekend!! 😊
Hello Danny, I have 2 Sogo Vivian phalaenopsis. 1 mounted and one potted. I got one discounted for $1.00! Great purchase! They both are doing wonderful. Not sure what issue you had with them that was bad. Can you elaborate?
Very nice selection 👌 I have been looking for a bronze maiden for quite sometime but no luck yet ! I have 2 orchids with amazing foliage I love the Doritis Pulcherrima Marmorata and a new acquisition : a cross between phalaenopsis lindenii x cornu-cervi chattaladae ! 🤩🤩 I am soooo looking forward to seeing grow and flower
I have the Phal. Sogo Vivien. It is spiking right now. in my experience she doesn't like too much water. if I water her like I water my other phalaenopsis, the leaves will start to get wrinkly. But I let it alone till the leaves back to normal. Humidity is between 36 to 50% and temperature-wise, it never goes below 20° C
When I bought my gigantea, I was afraid, that it is sick plant :D Now i know, that it is its charm. Did you see Salu's fragrancy? It was my first non-market phal. These leaves... :D
I found a sogo viven with 2 keikis in a local hardware store. I think the main crown was rotting when I got it, So now i just have the 2 rootless keikis with about 5 leaves each. Hoping they'll survive, but they seem to get root rot really easily in my sphagnum/bark self watering setup
Hey Danny, I have an orchid which I am assuming to be Coelogyne. I have had it for 2 months now, no signs of new roots neither are older ones good. I think it is stressed too as it seems to develop flower spikes. What should I do to save it? I love your videos ❤️ have learned a lot to save every orchid I now buy 😬
Hi Danny! I bought some phalen. orchids from Trader Joe’s. They are both in small drainage pots inside of a ceramic pot. They are both in full bloom and have other buds. I feel the drainage pots are too small for both the plants. I want to get future blooms out of them both. Is it necessary to repot in larger pots after the bloom to give them more space to grow?
Repot them in the spring when they start to grow again. Orchids prefer to be pot bound with less space so I would look up some videos or pictures of orchids being repotted so you know what the roots look like when theyre severely pot bound and need repotting.
This is a long shot but I literally can not find the answer anywhere! I have a psychopsis mendenhall Hildos that originally had the mottled leaves but I didn’t keep it in the right light conditions for a while… now that it has faded will the mottling come back or will the new leaves be reverted ☹️ please help!
Danny is missing phal deliciosa sadly which has frilled leaves which is super super cute
This is one of my most favourite videos! I wish there were more videos about such orchids 😊

The schilleriana is my absolute dream orchid. 😭

14:19 even the roots are variegated 😌😌
Those Phals are unbe-leaf-able! 😍
Good one! 😂
Love to hear more about your "periodic oil treatment". Sounds interesting!

You'll like Doritis pulcherrima var marmorata (other varieties have a regular foliage) and Phal celebensis!
When I bought my gigantea, I was afraid, that it is sick plant :D Now i know, that it is its charm. Did you see Salu's fragrancy? It was my first non-market phal. These leaves... :D
Dedicated Ba Shi Red Sun video would be amazing 😍
Really really really really 🙈 we got your point on how easy is to find Bellina in a nursery haha
There are also other mottled leaf phals like Phalaenopsis philippinensis, lindenii and celebensis! They are all so gorgeous!
Yay new phal video
