Hi there this is one of my favorite phalaenopsis species type. Great presentation 👏 video. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day stay safe and happy growing 😊
Hi there! You have such a wonderful plant and soooo many leaves! Enjoyed your video, you have an easy voice to listen to! Happy growing! Looking forward to seeing you plants in bloom down the road!
Hi there from Sweden! You´ve got the best looking one in this careCollab this far,, with most number of leaves and a good keiki as well. Nicely arranged and managed video as well!
I also have to agree that this by far was the best plant we’ve seen in the carecollabs!! Just subscribed! And I be also watched most of your other videos!! Great set up and phal upkeep! Please do cement everything from your keikie removal to the repotting. And I must get a Shilliriana too!! 🙈🤩👍🏻
Thank you so much Annie! :D I will certainly be making a more in-depth video out this gal and recording EVERYTHING. You also have a new subscriber - Happy Growing!
You have such a wonderful plant, all those leaves are just wonderful !!! Considering it only blooms once a year the sight of so many beautiful leaves is very comforting and lovely!!! Another plant is good, I love keikis 😃 My goodness that is a long spike, imagine if it could cover up in blooms next year !!! If my spike grows that long I don't know where to put the plant 😂 Space is always an issue and that is what holds me back and be judicious when I buy orchids. Trying at least...
Thank you! Yeah this spike is such an interesting challenge - yay blooms but my space! Hopefully I can maintain cooler temps next year because this morning I woke up and found ANOTHER spike popping out!! 😂😅 but the video was already fully recorded.
No blooms just yet! I believe my inability to get a night time drop stimulated the plant to make a keiki instead of blooms! She put out another spike a few days ago though so maybe I can trick her into blooming a bit early this year!
I bought my first three species phals from J&L in February: the bellina, violacea, and schilleriana. The violacea is the only one that had leaf tip die back twice possibly due to over fertilization, but it's on its second bloom currently. As for the schilleriana (Luzon version), it grew well during the summer and it's still making another leaf. I wonder if it will bloom in spring. The young species phals are known to bloom even before they are fully mature so I wouldn't be surprised if it happens. It dropped one leaf after repotting, but even when they drop leaves they are beautiful to look at because it turns a bright pink color almost like the flowers.
Paul; I have TRIED to keep a Phal. schilleriana Alive long enough to actually see a bloom. no luck :'( My humidity must be too low.. need to buy a humidifier. Have tried mounting on cork & growing in a pot... both dropped leaves 1 at a time until the plant was no more. Also surprised to see a plant from Norman's thrive.
Most of my phals are from Norman - I absolutely love his selections! I find the plants quite vigorous. I do think humidity is key for this plant as well as the water since it’s my only orchid that sits in water during grow season.
She is… and the desert has put her through the ringer. Unfortunately, she literally has just one leaf and one good root so my fingers are tightly crossed… the mother plant is doing much better but was one of my babies severely burned on the balcony - update on that coming very soon
Oh wow!!!! I just got my schilleriana today and low n behold it came with a keiki! And go figure I happen to run across your video and it was great....hope to see an update on your keiki soon....happy growing eveyone❤
Hi Gloria! That is a bit of a coincidence and I’m glad you made it here 😜 was waiting a new care collab with everyone in this one to update everything but maybe I’ll do one on the keikis especially since she decided to bloom this winter ❤️ happy growing wishing I the best with your new ‘chids 🙏🏽
@@therightpaph my keiki broke off the mother plant during transport I didnt realize it until I repotted....not sure if it is strong enough to make it she has 3 small roots but really tiny...I potted her in orchiata n spag moss....any suggestions?
@@gloriayoung6219 hmmm I would do what you did and if you can keep it next to a humidifier- the leaves love humidity and airflow. I believe that’s how I got the mother plant so large.
Hope she bloomed for you. I have three variations of schilleriana, (so far..lol..) two were blooming when I received them, the blooms are very transport sensitive, so don’t buy them expecting the blooms to last, they’ll probably fall off. The scent is amazing though, I wouldn’t say rosy, it’s more of a “clean” scent. Yes, Norman’s is where I got mine so far and a place in Florida I believe. I love their whole presentation..all their leaves are different..
Hi John! Thank you for tuning in 😬 my mother plant never bloomed but I still have her! However, the keiki did bloom this Winter/Spring - wasn’t fragrant unfortunately and I’m guessing maybe because it was not warm enough! I certainly want to purchase another but just don’t have the space… yet lol. Do all of yours bloom around the same time although different variations?
@@therightpaph I just recently purchased mine..I’m increasing my orchid collection and have added lights, I got two flasks of Cattleyas babies from Akatsuka in Hawaii, and two different very cool (flasks) Cattleyas from HBI, a Percivaliana (purple w stunning orange throat) and one that looks like a white/blue/purple Siberian iris, course, it’ll be a few years for those, but flasks are fun! I’m getting some orchids in the mail today from KrullSmith, some odds and ends. Most of my experience is with Phals and hoyas indoors, lots of general plant/garden experience.
@@johncspine2787 I love it! I can’t wait to expand my Hoya collection and I may try to put my cattleya outside to test it out. Do you have good natural light indoor or do you use the grow lights for it ?
@@therightpaph I’ve never had Catts before, they’re under lights I’m experimenting with, the newer LED with no fans, I’m happy with light level but not happy with how hot the drivers get for these lights, and my Hoyas are in a bay window facing west, spectacular sun, but I may consider putting them outside in summer for more light..(Salt Lake..single digit summer humidity might not work out though..) .I had an attic fire, all my plants/orchids got moved out into the yard and really distressed last summer, I’ve cut way back and repotted my three Hoyas, an archboldiana, onychoides, and a red/purple one with small flowers that look like Venetian glass..
Hello...I just wanted to update you on my keiki that came off my schill mother plant...so I took your advice I am happy to say baby schill is growing a new leaf and roots❤❤❤❤ thank you for the advice it is really appreciated😍🥰HAPPY GROWING❤️🌿❤️🪴❤️🌱
Thank you for watching - in my experience, the best light is a bright light without the heat which is pretty dead on to whole “indirect light” suggestion - like putting a sheer in a southern window!
@@therightpaph That’s what I have! Southwest window with the sheer on it. Small NY apartment, so no room for shelves with lights right now. And I wish we had more humidity like in DC. Thank you so much for the answer and all the videos!
The reason why it gives off keiki is because temp. Drop doesnt meet the minimum of 16c. I have mine for 10 yrs and it blooms during spring when night temp recahes 16-17c😊
Yes yours has many leaves! I also have a Pinlong Cheris 'Sakura' i adore her so much! Very nice! Very interesting video. Thanks for sharing 👍
Oh with pleasure and thank you! 🙌
Gorgeous leaves, so many of them, Just beautiful

Hey there!! Sounds amazing - I’m happy everything worked out well!! Happy Growing
The leaves look very similar to the Sansevierias Snake plant’s
True! I think lower light requirement type plants tend to have the most leaf variations as a mechanic to capture as much light as possible.
What are the lights requirements if I am not growing under grow lights? Brighter light? Less light?
