    I live in Fl where there's high humidity and I keep most of my 'chids outside for most of the year. Funny thing is that when I started this hobby my 3 main criteria for choosing an orchid was that it had to be drought tolerant, heat tolerant and fragrant. Now, almost 5 years and 80 plants later, most of my 'chids come from the generas you featured in this video. Obviously low humidity wasn't a concern but I do like to travel so I wanted plants that could withstand a little neglect for a couple of weeks at a time. It's worked out fine for me and my orchids. The key is to stick to a regular watering and feed schedule. Healthy plants are strong enough to handle a little neglect from time to time.

    THANK YOU so much for this video! My daughter and I have been doing great with phals for quite a while, but we've always thought it was all we could grow. You've given us a whole new horizon! Thank you for the new ideas. :)

    Thank you for another excellent video for beginners, I still count myself a beginner after three years of keeping orchids, I don’t count the many years of buying phals in the supermarket, I had no idea what to do then, they all died after blooming in those days.

    I just got a bulbophyllum. So happy to hear that it is not a difficult orchid to grow. Now I have some great information as to what they like.

    Hi, thanks so much for this video! It’s a great place to start. Can you do a video about drought tolerant orchids and orchids that you can keep standing in a bit of water, for people that have to change/push back their watering schedules because of illness or a busy schedule?

    Even though I lived humid south Florida. I have 12 phals. 8 summer blooming phals and 6 tolumnia on my low windowsills facing east. With the exception of the tolumnia everything gets since w week watering. Great video!

    Hey Danny! I bought a phalaenopsis Chingruey's Goldstaff in January. I brought it home and bought all the stuff I needed for it (media, fertilizer, a new pot, etc). It lost all but one of it's flowers due to the stress of moving around a lot, but it is doing pretty well now- I think. She still has the flower spike that she had when I bought her, which has 2 secondary spikes. All of the branches and the main spike are budding again, and she is now growing two additional spikes and a root. Is this going to be draining a lot of energy from the plant or is she just really healthy?

      I was so stoked I was just going for my weekly frozen shrimp tempura from Safeway after work one night @ 10 pm. I always check the orchids..... boom my eye 👁 lands on a DENDROBIUM NOBILEISIE!!! $26.99 and this bby has 3 LARGE KEIKIS!!! I told the girl “yea I feel like I’m robbing y’all” her manager heard the word “rob” and slides up to the register lmfao!! I felt so lucky omg !!!! I have not seen one in my town .... like in a year now I might have FOUR! And on mine both of the canes at the bottom are sooo shriveled (looking like a damn STRAW! I mean thinner than the stakes at the bottom) but I still got it bc I figured maybe I can save it - I mean one had a full bloom, one had all the keikis- and in 2-3 years it will hopefully grow new canes be healthy again!! Hold out the hope Belen LG... I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you!!!!!

    Hi Danny, I have a question. Do you use hydrogen peroxide for every repotting or just for the ones infected by snails ?.. i have one case of confirmed snail damage and some other plants with old snails damage....but should i repot and use hydrogen peroxide on other plants which were close to the currently infected plant....in case they get infected in future?

    Hi Danny - I live in the desert in Southern California and my Phalaenopsis orchids are struggling. I have been following you for a while and have upgraded their containers so that they can drain and breathe more easily, updated their medium to sphagnum moss and started adding nutrients. I'm watering based on moistness of the medium. But, even though their medium will be moist, the aerial roots above the medium are shriveling??? Otherwise, they seem good, leaves are green, firm and shiny, roots in the medium look plump - should I mist because of such low humidity? Maybe its the tap water I'm using?? Just trying to keep them alive and well! Thanks!

    • @rhodealexandre6583
      @rhodealexandre6583 3 роки тому

      I believe that Aerial Roots are related to humidity and orchid does not need them to survive. Also are you keeping them in a controlled environment or they are outside? This might make a huge difference

    How much time per day should I run the fan by my orchid? Does it need to run all the time ? I only have one orchid but I am getting orchid fever!

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  3 роки тому

      Hi, fans are not necessarily needed for one orchid, unles humidity is extremely high. Also the more crowded your plant room is, the more fans will be needed, but for one orchid maybe it's an overkill. If you do wish to use it though it should be on pretty much all the time ☺️

    In winter my apartment has around 32% humidity, in summer it goes up to 90%. Is there an orchid that survive and thrive in these extremes?

    Hi Danny, I apsolutely love your videos. I have a question for you, if you have some time. I recently purchased Dendrobium "Berry Oda" and ,when I purchased it, it was in full bloom, but now it is in my house for about a week, and I have kept it in a part of my house where is not as hot, for my dendrobium to aclimate, and despite that the blooms just keep falling off. What am I doing wrong? Looking forward to your answer!😄

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  3 роки тому +2

      Hi, sounds normal, individual flowers don't last more than a couple of weeks on Berry Oda 😉

      Hi, when canes mature they should form a spike within a few weeks or so ☺️ they may decide not to bloom if culture is not proper though, so check that conditions are adequate.

    I think Danny is drastically down-playing the tolerance of and ease of care for Epidendrum orchids.
    They will grow in almost anything, almost anywhere (providing it is not cold enough for the liquid in the plant’s tissue to freeze, but, I am quite sure they will tolerate below freezing weather, as it has been below freezing where I live at least once in my lifetime, and they survived just fine).
    Epidendrums are the orchid I recommend to non-orchid growers precisely because they are so easy to grow.
