    I much prefer these more positive videos, they feel more in line with stoic teachings. Life is FULL of negativity, we need not stoop to that level ourselves. Just acknowledge that it exists beyond our control and instead focus on the interactions that we personally have with the world, focusing on how we act and react to the challenges we face.

      One must be aware of the good and the bad. Of course we would rather hear/participate on the positive

      Jack, thanks for sharing your perspective! I completely agree, and I believe that the essence of Stoicism is about recognizing what's in our control and responding with virtue and clarity. It's true that for there to be positive, there must also be negative. It's all about balance and understanding. Do you think there's a specific Stoic exercise or practice that can be particularly helpful in cultivating this mindset in today's world? ✨

      Thank you for subscribing and engaging with the channel, Beachkitten! 💙 You're absolutely right. Awareness of both the good and the bad helps us to navigate life in a balanced way. While focusing on the positive is beneficial, acknowledging the negative can also provide valuable lessons. What Stoic practices do you think can help in maintaining this balance in daily life? 🌅

    Yeah that was my goal. To stop worrying to about the future and to let the past be the past. I want to live in the now because there really is no other day like today. Its great to know ive also recently been affecting people with my present. My coworker had a lot of woes of the opinions of others and anxietys of the future. After engaging with him, i didnt realize but i have been scrapping off my ability to live in the now. We shared a moment recently that I'll always look back on. Just two guys sitting in the back of a car looking out and me mearly saying "This is it, this is life." As we both stare out and take in the moment.

    I strive to be an honest advisor. I may not always succeed. But for a long time, I have nurtured my ability to provide high quality feedback to those seeking my insight. I find the lover of the moment to be essential to my ability to center myself in the face of adversity. Combining a few of the others, demarcating times when I am not to be disturbed, to focus on myself, and focus on the moment, leads me to the common consideration that a neutral frame of mind is also the absence of distress, which is acutely comforting. This puts me in a good mood, however temporary.
      It is such occasions of personal reflection that empower me to face down life’s challenges, while keeping my mind stable and sharp.

    I would argue that life in the present moment doesn’t need to be continuously joyous. Seeking joy in the present leads to seeking euphoria instead of living. So, to your point on loving the present, don’t love the present, live in the present. Don’t live for a moment, live in the moment. Love, sadness, suffering, joy, may come with the present; accept them.

    • @ServalShots
      @ServalShots 7 місяців тому +1

      Interesting take on the present moment lover. I think you’re right that constantly seeking joy could lead to bad ways of obtaining euphoria. And I like that you suggested that it is normal that other motions will come to the present lover and to just accept them; after all they’re just moments on the rich tapestry of your life

    Ive found, given my current profession, though the people i interact with may not like me, nor out right trust me, know full well, they can come to me for advice with an understanding that i do not care about station, rank, or what they have done, that i will give them a true honest answer. Wheather theyre a murderer, thief, solider or general, i speak candidly, truthfully and direct to the best of my ability, and if i do not have an answer I'll take time, confir with my peers and come back with one.

    It's very easy to aspire to be the "minor criticisms" person but just be a jerk. One of the best bits of advice I ever had on the topic of giving advice or feeback is to ask permission first. People can react to well intentioned critique as if they are in a confrontation. Much the same way as touching someone unexpectedly will make many people "start" as they get a minor adrenilin rush. The problem is that if someone feels attacked they don't gain any benefit, it just makes them miserable and I worry that people might use this stoic angle to tell themselves that they are a hero for giving people lots of unasked for negative feedback!

    I left a comment in the previous video saying (or perhaps alluding to) how i felt i wasn't really sure if the stoic philosophy would be appropriate for me but this video I am the Reflective Thinker, The Empathetic Helper and the Present Moment Lover, but more so the first two.
    What I wish to aspire to be, and also aspire to search for is the honest advisor. Being someone with severe ADHD, I often time bug my friends with so many questions that appear innane to them, but I realize its because i see them as the Honest Advisors for my life, even if they don't see it as such. I definitely think i come off as annoying, but I would like to think I'm trying to contribute to a bigger discussion. My own problem is I very much come off as pretentious whenever I give my own two cents, which that just might be me being awkward more than anything. (And awkwardness is... Awkward topic for Stoicism? I don't know...)

    hmmm, idk if the example for the Honest Advisor is good, I think we are missing a fine line. Since I am not an expert in most fields, I would never give advice to someone in a field I do not know much on, because I truly do not know what I would be talking about. Usually I'll just support the individual and say keep going with a smile and say that I enjoyed the work. If I didn't like the work I'd say it was good but it was just not my cup of tea. It is important to consider biases such as in music. Although I do not like or do not understand a way of expression, does not invalidate the importance and spirit of that individual expression
