Вставка
- Опубліковано 20 тра 2023
- Freeze Dried orange juice can be used for all kinds of things including a breakfast drink, a sweetener, an additive in recipes or in our case mimosas! Today we are covering how to properly freeze dry orange juice without having an explosion of sticky freeze dried puff inside your freeze dryer chamber. We show how to freeze dry, what brand or type of juice to look for, what types of additives to avoid and how to rehydrate the freeze dried orange juice for best results. We also show how to make freeze dried mimosas and my kid's favorite drink, an Arizona Sunset.
Freeze dried orange juice is a type of orange juice that has been freeze dried, a process that removes all of the water from the juice while leaving behind the flavor, nutrients, and other properties of the juice. Freeze dried orange juice is a popular ingredient in many types of food and drinks, including instant orange juice mixes, energy bars, and smoothie powders. Because it is lightweight and has a long shelf life, it is also a popular option for backpackers and other outdoor enthusiasts who need a source of vitamin C in their diet. To use freeze dried orange juice, it is typically rehydrated with water before being consumed.

Great video! Good looking family! And beautiful scenery!
Love that scenery.
Book handbooks are super! Highly recommend!
The video was awesome!!! Thanks for being so creative. What a great way to celebrate mother's day !!!
Great video.
Actually teared up watching you family enjoying Mother's Day together like that.
We are having so much fun!
I am so glad I got this channel
Thanks, excellent info
Your boys are adorable.
Great job!
Yum! Thank so much for this video. OJ is something we really want to FD! I think I’ll try the limeade and lemonade from the same brand you used. Good job by the kiddos, and glad your wife had a fun Mother’s Day!
If you do lemon or limeade, watch for sugar content and additives as well. Just don't want you to have a mess.
nice!
and shaken not stirred!
Great videos! I like that shirt, looks like you're supporting my state🤣
Orange juice the same as yours was on special so we tried it. It does indeed work. However we decided it is not worth the trouble for us. It took 48 hours. I think if we were in the south and had an orange tree it would be worth it. Freeze drying does work as you said.
Thank you for this! Id prefer fresh juice over tang anyday! God bless all!
Fresh is always best!
The dividers keep the sugar crystal size down
Genius idea
Killer vid. Please do more of these pantry basics. We are expecting a citrus shortage this upcoming year so get your orange, grapefruit, lemon and lime juice processed before prices skyrocket and supplies dry up.
I think they are already going up! I think you're right though, get them before they are ourageous.
So basically you could mix your freeze dried orange juice with two shots of vodka, seal it, and you’d have a screw driver that will last forever. Just need to add water. 😎
Alcohol will evaporate at lower temps than water, so you'll end up just removing your alcohol from the orange powder through freeze drying.
Unfortunately the alcohol will disappear through fding, but good news is, it doesn't go bad.
@@live.life.simple.
No, mix the freeze dried orange juice with the vodka. Don’t freeze dry the alcohol. 🤦🏻♂️
I love this video.
@@drvinson8947 sounds like a plan!
i did this with fresh carrot juce
Awesome. You might be able to use that carrot powder as a sweetener as well.
Please how can I get the right specification for a good 20kg freeze dryer?
So, I guess we were lucky. We were given a large quantity of oranges. Not having tried orange juice before we hadn't heard of it being a mess. We peeled them and ran them through a blender, then f/d them. No problems whatsoever. At the end we just mashed the dry cake until it was a powder (easy) and then put it in mason jars. Works well for smoothies or just a high pulp drink.
How many oranges did it take to do a full load?
@@denisehoward384 I believe it was three dozen medium oranges for our medium f/d.
Great to hear!
I have pre-frozen fresh squeezed OJ into souper cubes of varying sizes. Will it be fine to throw those into the freeze dryer or will they puff up and be a mess since they’re taller? Should I unfreeze and then re-freeze onto the harvest right trays?
Did you end up trying? I imagine if you put it in frozen like that, it won't foam up. But I would be afraid to be the first to try.
I tried fresh squeezed orange & lemons blended to a powder & stored in a mason jar with anti-air packet & it still got clumped up and hard & couldn’t get it out of the jar after 2 weeks….. it was totally dried. What are your thoughts on anti- moisture packets? Great family video!!👍🏼
I personally do not use moisture packets. If your food is 100% freeze dried and stored properly, it should not have e moisture in it.
When you weighed the tray prior to freeze drying you didn't say anything about the tray weight and the dividers. Did you subtract that from your total off camera? Thanks.
If the trays and dividers are figured into the weight before and after, the weight does not change whether or not you use dividers.
Notice in the video you used pulp free..... Can you use High pulp or will that cause the explosions?
I'm not certain. I only used pulp free because that was the only one at the time that was 100% juice. I wouldn't think the pulp would change things a whole lot.
Where do you get the tray dividers?
Oops. Never mind. Just found them in your store 👍🏻
Morning
Good morning!
What about homemade OJ?? We don't buy this stuff, we make everything from scratch... PS, love the family time!
Blessings ❤
Best way to go. No sugar added.
That's always the best, but real expensive unless you have a good resource for oranges. I used 100% juice, which is the closest I could get.
What about juicing normal fruit and veg juice?
Absolutely! Fruit and veggies juices make a compact powder. Just add water!
Is the Vitamin C in the orange juice affected by freeze drying?
Foods retain most of their vitamins a nutrients through the process
@@live.life.simple. What temperature does the food get up to in the vacuum process?
@@katrinakrakow5961I've noticed the display says 115 some times. And even during testing, it will auto cut off at 150 degrees.
Orange juice with pulp freeze dry all the time, no expansion, while the one with no pulp expands most of the time
I just did one tray of canned Lychee. It did NOT work for me. It was in water not syrup. I know it has a skin on it so I even cut them up. It came out sticky after more hours than you can imagine! Just an fyi! If someone makes it work, I'd love to know!
Similar experience. Too much sugar
@@OvcharkaShepherd Thank you.
Wait. Did I miss you moving? I thought you guys lived in Iowa?
2 years and it wasn't for us. We missed Colorado too much. Lots of friends, memories and things to do here.
@@live.life.simple. I live in Iowa a whole lot longer, and it isn’t for me, either., so I hear ya.
I have to ask. Using parchment paper with liquid makes no sense to me. The liquid is going to get under that parchment paper instantly when you pour the liquid in.
With most things the liquid pushes down the paper before freezing. If a little liquid gets below the paper it's still much better than a whole bunch of freeze dried liquid sticking together. Liquid is not a liquid after freeze drying
It's not so you don't have to clean up, it's so you can get the food off and into containers easier.
Something you might want to research is they put cockroach juice in stores brought orange juice. Something to do with the color.
Just added protein 💪
Rehydrate WITH vodka🤣
Yes! 👍
how about FD whole oranges and powder them? You drop few useless steps and you avoid the pasteurization, what is used in pretty much every store bought orange juice(even in the so called "freshes").
