16lbs at $2/lb is $32 for 10lb of cooked chicken. Hmmm…. Consider doing the Costco chickens. I have a 6 Costco rotisserie chickens ($30 total cost) in my FD right now. This netted me 14lbs of cooked chicken. My cost is $2.20/lb. Your actual cost of cooked weight is $3.55/lb. And you had to cook the chicken.

John I invested in an InstaPot and cook my chicken for 30 to 45 minutes. Then I shred and freeze dry it. Just like you do, but using the Insta Pot speeds up the process to nothing at all!

I would have FD’d the Manwich with chicken concoction together. A prepper knows that in the “apocalypse” we won’t have electricity to cook up our food (though you’ve already thought of that with your solar panels from 7-8 years ago), so it would behoove us to freeze dry Made Ready to Eat meals (MRE) so we just need to pray we have water to rehydrate the meal.
In other words after cooking it up, I would have made several meals, plus leave some separate for adding to salads, etc. and then freeze dried it. Save a step down the road in 20 years when it’s a pain and a bother to do the cooking then.

I had a lot of water come out in freeze dryer. I even put it in a salad spinner before I put it in

With each section being 1/2 pound, each tray had 3 pounds. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks but I am correct, each large section was 1/2 pound, that left two half large sections which is 1/2 a pound so total weight was 2.5 pounds

You didn't wash the chicken.......if you ever see a processing plant, you will always wash your meat, any meat before cooking.

Thank you for your comment. According to the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service you should not wash poultry before cooking, Also Martha Stewart says not to according to google search.

That’s correct. I had an Aunt who would scrub her chicken with dish soap and a brush. She had the whitest chicken I ever saw. It tasted good but was definitely an over kill. like John said, you shouldn’t was it.
