Thank for sharing knowledge with all of us...A HUGE thank YOU!!!! for not having an annoying background music...so refreshing for sure...lastly, lovelovelove the way u explain the whole process ...u are a great teacher!
Great video. I love my freeze dryer! As an HVAC tech i have an above average understanding of how/why freeze dryers work. Heating the trays is super important to the process. Im a huge fan of 'air flow' however i feel like the screens on the trays will drastically reduce the heat applied to the food on the trays thus slowing down the whole process. I may be wrong? Im curious if you did a test of with and without the screens how it would affect the dry time? Maybe an idea for a future video?

Great information, tools perhaps required and things that you have discovered helps your productivity. I have a weird question. No one has showed what happens to the water extracted, how warm does the room get, would it benefit using heat extraction in the room and vent it somewhere (we’re thinking into a greenhouse.). Everyone usually shows the food side, I have yet to see one of oil changes, etc. (I saw one video where they discuss oil vs oil free - which as someone exploring the idea of of machines - was an eye opener. :) Thanks for sharing!
Your videos are a tremendous help for people like me who are new to freeze drying for personal use! Your strawberry slicer recommendation works awesome. Do you have a link for doing cherries?
Nice video; one quick question though, aren't you conflating the calyx of the strawberry with the leaves of it? Leaves are grown from the plant and power the growth of the strawberry, but the green 'cap' on the back of a strawberry is basically just protective roughage; I don't think it'd have the same nutritional content as the actual leaves.
If ur doing pre frozen just thaw them put 100%, then rinse them, tray them (pre freeze in your freeze if u want) or just put em right in ur freeze dryer and they turn out 100% perfectly and saves u hours upon hours of prep time
Had you ever thought of using a pizza crust or pastry docking tool. That tool has rows of spikes and a handle. They are not spaced as closely as the gadget you are showing, but are only a fraction of the price.
Interesting video. I’m seeing a movement trend in stocking food for emergency’s which is why I’m here. There seems to be a social concern of food piling stores and freeze dried foods from all my research has come up trumps compared to dehydrated products. I looked for online bulk suppliers and there’s just not enough substantial products to order from especially for large families or households with large numbers. And what is available is sporadic and not versatile for variation and interesting menu plans. That’s concerning so I’ve decided to try doing it myself, why not?. Your video was extremely insightful thank you! If I may suggest with your method prep for apples… Could you use an apple corer prior to using the potato fry chipper? Would cryo-vacuuming be effective for packaging to store produce? Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for all your tips too🧐 🙌
That's a completely different preservation method. Dehydration is removing all water through heat. Freeze-drying is the process of sublimation which is taking the water from a solid to a gas. Dehydration take it from a solid to liquid to gas which is why you get a rubber based end product
Most of my sales come from wholesale, consignment, and online. Online stores that would be good to explore would be Etsy and building your own website.
Many of us have an apple peeler that peels, slices and cores apples simultaneously two cuts with paring knife per apple and you are done. Most people don't enjoy the apple skin and it may not be safe to eat if the apples are not organic.
If I understand correctly, if you put your apples in the freezer right away, then they don't turn brown without any citric acid? I would think the air in the freezer would turn them brown
Does your fruit come apart easily when you have them overlapping like that? I’ve been pre freezing in single layers first, then pile them on my FD trays (up to about 2 lbs). It takes a lot of time to do that, but maybe I don’t need to.
Yes they do come apart easily. For the strawberries you have to be a little delicate but you can break them apart for sure and usually they do anyway once you put them in a storage container
@@freezedriedbusiness Can you set it longer to be safe? I am doing watermelon, pineapple, apples, strawberry, banana, grapes cut in half, all in one run.
6 hours for final dry time, total freeze drying cycle time will take up to 40 hours total (this includes the freezing stage, vacuum stage, drying, and final dry)

Yes, 100% agree!
Mango is my favorite over all of those❤
I prefer freeze dried over other drying methods. So thank you for educating us :)

Your video storytelling transitions and zooms are getting good. Thanks for sharing info on your channel

I like the way you cut the apples. I think that's the best and fastest way.
Thank you for the Freeze Dryer videos
I love your videos! Thank you for sharing
Glad you like them!
Looking for the links to bags and tools you used, please? Somehow I don’t see them. Love your videos, very informative!!

FYI - Building a machine channel with needles for the blueberries is straightforward, ensuring excellent consistency.
Had you ever thought of using a pizza crust or pastry docking tool. That tool has rows of spikes and a handle. They are not spaced as closely as the gadget you are showing, but are only a fraction of the price.
Yes I have and the pizza tool doesn’t have a way to catch the blueberries off the spikes so it just keeps rotating and doesn’t fall off

Yes coring the apple makes a lot of sense and I’m going to start doing that for another video
May I ask, is it then possible to use a dehydrator to freeze dry? Like freeze my fruit separately and then transfer it to the dehydrator?
That's a completely different preservation method. Dehydration is removing all water through heat. Freeze-drying is the process of sublimation which is taking the water from a solid to a gas. Dehydration take it from a solid to liquid to gas which is why you get a rubber based end product
Did you mention they made the stainless steel grates for the stay fresh trays? I could not find them.
Not for stay fresh I don't believe
Do you wash your fruit with only water or is there a soap used as well?
Just water
Would you say most of your sales come from in person farmers markets, fairs, etc or online? If online, from your online store, ebay, etsy?

Could you post a link to the “egg slicer” you used for cutting the strawberries

I do both, some I sell without the peel and others with the peel. I’ve been trying to transition to only organic fruit this year
Where can I buy the racks for drying fruit. I have a Lf HR Dryer
FrozenRight, there’s a link in the video description
Is there a specific time a temperature for freeze drying them?
125 degrees and then set the final dry time to 6 hours or more until dry

I haven't found that it browns them too much.
How would one get into this business ?
What is the size of the potato cutter? 1/2”, 1/4” or 3/8”. Thanks
3/8
How can I buy your products!?

125 degrees and set your final dry for minimum of 6 hours

Just to clarify, first you say 5 trays about 6h, then you say 5 trays of strawberries up to 40h. What makes the time go up that much?
6 hours for final dry time, total freeze drying cycle time will take up to 40 hours total (this includes the freezing stage, vacuum stage, drying, and final dry)
👍👍👍👍👍
Apple cider vinegar and water for about 15 minutes
I mean the hand roller

Does anybody know why he is placing the fruit on a rack? He didn’t mention his reasoning.
I think he said to increase airflow, which decreases time to complete
@@laquicha8159 ah, thank you. I must have missed that.
Still prefer dehydrated fruits to freeze drying. Texture is better
It all depends on what you like for sure
I soak my strawberries in apple cider vinegar.
What's the taste on those!?
Get a piece of plywood with small nails prolly do just as good of a job then that roller. imo
Cheaper but very unsanitary
Thank you for buying American made only.
where do i purchase the wire racks for the medium trays?
