Great teaching Glen really enjoyed it great information even for those that have been turning for years it is good to get a refresher now and again Blessings
Great advice! As a fairly new turner, sometimes it’s hard not to exceed my capabilities. You see a video and boy “ that looks easy “ ….. but you forget how many hours of turning time the presenter has. Sure they make it look easy, but don’t try to run before you learn to walk 🤠🇨🇱
Great video, exactly what i needed right now. Gave my new Type 3 set a go on Saturday (thank you, they are amazing chisels, and an absolute bargain). The tools are great, but the information here is the cherry on top - so many little nuggets that make a huge difference to how I'd use them. Loving your work and videos, please keep them coming.
For anyone reading this i have glens type 3 set they are phenomenal....... Fantastic video mate proper informative as ever. Hope you had fun at goth weekend and hope your top hat lived up to expectations. Im about to mill/blank some spalted beech and cherry logs if you facy any?? 👍🏴
Thanks for this great video. I always learn so much from you. I have one question, I'm in the US, is there a specific brand of carbide chisels you would recommend for us folks across the pond?
Thanks for watching. Welcome to the channel. I have not used any other companies carbides so can not recommend any to you. All other manufactures say you scrape with theirs.
Evening glen, hope yourself and wife doing well, bought a set of your standards short handle used a few months back, lately im finding the square isnt cutting seems to just create dust ive attempted sharpening on a diamond stone but no improvment, any ideas ? thanks
Yes. The only idea is that you are scraping rather than cutting, which will dull the cutters quicker, which is why other companies say to scrape with them. I can't say why you're not able to re-sharpen them as I can't see what you're doing. I have put out there even on the Chatty turning video how easy it is to sharpen them. Maybe have a look at that. The only option is to replace the cutter if you've used all the edges of the cutter.

Great advice Randy. Start small and work your way up, using your skills learnt along the way.
Utterly fantastic lesson.

Welcome to the channel and welcome to the darkside - carbides. Glad you are enjoying using your chisels. Happy turning.
That was my problem at the beginning, I decided a 12*3" was a suitable size. When it hit my chest, I decided it wasn't.
