Glenn & Liza Teagle Woodturning & Carbide Chisels
United Kingdom
Приєднався 9 січ 2014
I have been a Carpenter and Woodturner for 40 years. I started making my carbide woodturning tools to sell over 15 years ago now.
I have always tried to keep them at an affordable price for everyone and give the best quality I can for that price. Every tool I sell is hand made by me and is only available from me. My aim on this channel is not to turn a project as such, but to demonstrate how to get a good, clean and smooth finish using my carbide tools. I have been asked many times by customers for videos on how to use my carbide tools to achieve this. I want to help the viewers with any questions they may have, when it comes to using carbide woodturning tools. I won't just explain what to do, I will demonstrate it so you can clearly see how to achieve it and see that it can be done safely, easily and I will also point out the danger points to avoid getting those nasty catches that just ruin your day... I will be posting videos to demonstrate what each tool can be useful for.

Excellent video..cheers
Thanks
Scary!
If it is in deep all you can do is dig it out.
The best way I have found to get read of the fluid is to wire bush and then sand it.
Did you say the type of wood you used in this video? On my tv it was a brilliant yellow. On my iPad it was less yellow, leaving me wondering what type of wood is it?? Long excellent video. I started turning 50 years ago, then just before I retired, I talked my wife into letting me get one. My Wife is a lovely woman, and I don’t want to do anything that might mess that up. Thanks Clay
I din't know what wood it was. It was very yellow, a dry and dusty piece of wood I had in a bundle of blanks I had received.
I simply can’t understand when someone says that carbides are easier for the beginner. Just about every video has a lot of trouble making them work as they are supposed to do. I think they work, and I have them too. Just they aren’t easy, unless used like plain scrapers, and even so…
I have always said they are not just for beginners, they are in addition to all other woodturning tools. They still need to be used correctly. Everyone seems to want a fast entry into woodturning, with no time spent in actually learning how to turn. Unfortunately, in some ways, carbide does allow this.
I loved this tutorial. I would have loved to buy your carbide turning tools but you don't ship to US. Since you don't, do you know anyone in the US that makes anything like your SCH 3 tool? That tool looks like a perfect kind of finishing tool I would love to get. Thanks again for your videos.
Thank you and welcome to the channel. Sorry but no manufacturers make my SCH3.
That's too bad but thanks for replying though. Continuing to watch your videos. I like how you explain things thoroughly. Thanks again.
@@DropDKeeb Glad you are enjoying them and finding them helpful.
That is too bad. One question I have also, the set of carbide tools I bought and have started using has the 12mm round bit and the 11mm square bit. Are those sizes standard size bits or are they smaller than I should have to really turn bigger things like bowls and stuff? Not sure if I bought the right sized tools for most uses or if these are really meant for pens and smaller things. Thanks for your time and expertise.
@@DropDKeeb It's not about the size of your tool, it's about what you do with it, as Liza often tells me. Lol. My favourite tool has the 9mm Round cutter.
Hi I enjoy watching your work I’m interested in getting the parting tool that you use and the 6ml chisel how do I go about getting them please.
Hi Mick, please email us using the Contact Me page on the website. We don't discuss this on UA-cam comments. website is www.ukwoodcraftandcarbidechisels.co.uk
Really great video. So much information. I like how you use straws to explain side grain and end grain. 😊
Thanks Emily. I try to explain things so everyone can understand.
Well explained as normal, keep them coming, with a little more pan lol
Welcome to the channel. Thanks for watching.
Make it wooden with WoodPrix.
A few more gems in this one. I already made half inch and 3/4" flippy-floppy tool holder doofers after watching your other vid, but I like the slow speed stone holder and things like the tool post drill guide. Incidentally, I have the 37" five speed Clarke lathe, bought second hand for thirty quid, about thirty years ago. Only used occasionally, but that's going to change now I'm retired.
Glad you are enjoying the videos. Happy turning.
Grate videos glen keep them coming.
Thanks Ian.
Hi I also enjoy and appreciate your videos it’s my go to turning place They are all about the relevant practical things we need to know as we progress. Great to see the different kit available being used, helps us to decide what would be relevant for us going forward Keep up the good work, content and banter is great I really enjoyed the last few they seemed to be aimed at where I’m at Thanks again Cheers
Thank you for watching Graham. Glad you have found the videos helpful. Thank you for the Buy Me A Coffee coffees. Very much appreciated. Happy turning.
Great video Glenn. Very informative as usual I like your wall art and you waffling on,the camera positions are great I also like that you are endorsing your tools and not some random sponsor .thanks for sharing your experience as a woodturner
@@seancox33 Thanks Sean. Glad you are enjoying the videos.
"If you can't afford it, well, work harder" 🤣 👍 .......... I love your attitude of basically it's my channel, I'll do what I like, If you don't like it, bugger off 😁
That's it exactly.
Great video Glenn
Thanks John.
Love what you're doing thank you so much. I would like to find a cheap Chinese diesel heater.
Welcome to the channel. Thanks for watching. Got mine on Ebay.
Glenn & Liza, buddy keep doing what you are doing as there are always idiots out there talking shite, Do they have videos doing everything correct !!!!. Just block them mate. Anyway great wee video.
That's what I did, blocked him. Thanks Alan.
Ahhh... a good rant first thing is good for the soul. Gets the hart pumping, gets the blood moving and cleans out the arteries😁 As far as the tools go, it looks like the top row of chisels are ones you made yourself. Instead of Starbucks coffee in the morning put the money aside and start going to swap meets and estate sales looking for tools. I started with a Vicmarc chuck and some jaws. I got tired of changing jaws so I am saving for some vm100 chuck bodies for my jaws. That is why I keep eyeing your board were you mount them. I guess you could do the same for hollow forms, mark your tool rest with some tape for the size of hole you want and use a bowl blank so you can see the cutter to get the feel of it. I can see what you said about grabing the tool handle. I have a hollowing too that had an arm brace. You layed your arm into a U shape on the handle. I can see now if you got a big catch that could wrench your arm. Thanks for the video always learn something.
Glad the videos help.
Love the comments against the trolls. I can't imagine why someone would make such a pathetic comment about your tools and Chuck's 😮. I personally think that your commentary is spot on, you have to explain what you are doing. Keep the content coming guys, hope you have a better day fishing 😅.
Thanks Dale
You make great content. You keep doing you. Ignore the Trolls. 😊
Thanks for watching.
The Boss
Welcome to the channel. Please tell Liza. She doesn't believe that.
You and Lisa make a great team.
I like the fact that you show a large view of your set up. Seeing all your tools and chucks has inspire me to go look at options other than the typical wood chisels. Talk all you want as I am sure a lot of us are taken notes. I write a lot when I hear your ideas. keep teaching your style ways
Thank you Ray.
Excellent video like all the tools in the background
Thanks Charles
Roflol I love that you're not pandering to the trolls and you tell it like it is! I like the wide shots, I like the close ups. They may not be in the same video, but I can find what I need in another video. You keep doing you. Thats what makes this channel great.
Thanks Robert. Will do. Thanks for watching.
Like your videos Glenn and you say it as it is if they don’t like it they can bugger off. I am about to make a decision on a diesel heater do you have the torpedo version or the free standing one and have you fitted a longer exhaust. Appreciate any of your advice in this direction. Thanks Les.😊
It's a free standing one. Yes I extended the exhaust with 22mm copper pipe, goes straight out through my wall.
Great job. Love the close ups and the details of the cutter, angles, and handle. I am really enjoying this series.
Welcome to the channel. Glad you are finding the videos helpful. Thanks for watching.
Very well explained Glenn.
Thanks Anthony
Stay just as you are Glenn.
Thanks Alan. Not changing for nobody.
I'm afraid these people who moment as they do,r so impatient. Keep it going.
@@StephenMilsom will do. Thanks for watching.
Super demo rotate the work by hand and show the bevel and then the cut as you rotate the cutter. ❤
Glad you enjoyed the video
Have you tried to sharpen your carbide tips?
Already done a video showing how to sharpen them. I don't find I need to sharpen mine as I cut and don't scrape with them. ua-cam.com/video/OKIhVNGJOWU/v-deo.html
Thankyou I recently bought a cbn wheel grinding guide not in the budget but I have welders and drill presses and welders so I am taking your design and making one out of steel with adjustable base
Welcome to the channel. Thanks for watching. Mine's made out of steel but not everyone can weld, so I showed how anyone can make this system for pennies.
My wife used these plans from WoodPrix and she's very satisfied.
I am really sure you can make it yourself mates. I made it 2 weeks ago thanks to WoodPrix.
Thank you,I now think I understand what you mean by riding the bevel. Just so you know I am new to turning so I don’t know the terminology. I bought a carbide set to get started, my goal is to use both types of chisels. Traditional and carbide. I’m 75 this year so I have a long time to learn. 😂
I always say use all tools. 75, is still young. Glad you found the video helpful.
Absolutely superb video. Everything explained and shown. Thank you.
Glad you liked it.
I would love to see you turning a hat no matter how long it takes🙂
Already have videos up on turning cowboy hats. Just search under the channel cowboy hat. There's a few.
А можно меньше рассказывать, а больше показывать..Мы не понимаем языка..🤔
Why are you watching an English turning channel? If you can't understand, go and watch someone else. 👋👋 Bye bye
Should you be at or below center when hollowing to avoid catches ?? I have seen others do that top side hollowing procedure - confused on what’s right. Love your channel BTW
NICE JOB !!! WHOS CHUCK AND JAWS ARE YOU USING ? THANKS, JIM
Nova chuck with Charnwood ripple jaws.
Love the long form educational content!!! I have learned so much from your videos 🙏🙏
We do a mixture, to cater for everyone.
Very nice, 👍
Excellent teaching Glenn love watching you turn. I learn so much and answer so many questions about what I have been doing wrong when I started to turn I knew nothing and made lots of mistakes. I even had a catch that broke my face plate. But lately the pieces are not flying off and so many less catches and I no longer bend my chisels and break the carbide cutters off Blessings Wade
That's what I try to demonstrate, catch free turning. Glad you are finding the videos helpful Wade. Happy turning.
How green is the wood?
Part seasoned, not completely wet.
I was watching RC Woodturning and in his tool list in the comments section he had a carbide parting tool from Amazon. It comes with 2 blades with carbide tips and no handle all for $30. So I sent for it to see what it is like. As far as cutting I started thinking how a saw blade cuts. the carbide tip comes down on top of the wood just like you showed by raising the handle. I will give. it a go when it comes today.
Let us know how you get on.
Can you recommend a good company here in the USA to get carbide tools like yours?
Hi Donald. Welcome to the channel. All the manufacturers call their carbides scrapers and design them to do that. I do not know any company's who do carbides like mine.
Darn guess I need to start a company. Or plan a trip to the UK. There’s an idea over here that if you use carbide tools you are taking the cheapest way to turn and you are not developing a skill set. I have been using the technique that you teach to some degree of success. Thanks so much for your time I really enjoy your videos. PS hope you catch some fish. lol
@@DonaldDonohoo plenty of skill in knowing how to present your tools to the piece and turning without getting catches, which is what I try and demonstrate. Glad you are enjoying the fishing videos too. Thanks for watching.
Can you do the same with a square shaft cutter or is it a must have round shaft?
Works the same.
Greatvideosilovewatchingyou😊 27:11
Welcome to the channel. Thanks Edwin.
Glen, your videos are really great instructional vids. They are clear, no nonsense and I learn so much, especially bout using carbides effectively. Thank you!
Thank you. Glad you find them helpful.
