It's safe to say the Range Rover Evoque has been a huge sales success for Land Rover. It combines head-turning looks, a practical yet luxurious interior and that all important Land Rover off-road ability in a compact SUV package.
The Evoque has been given a mild facelift for 2016 with a few styling tweaks such as new lights and bumpers, as well as an updated infotainment system, but the big news is the addition of Jaguar Land Rover's new 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engines. Watch the video to find out if it's any good!

I don't understand all the hate towards Range Rover. Every RR vid on UA-cam gets the same shitey, ignorant comments. This is a stylish and practical car with a beautiful interior.

+Kev50027 Is that why there is still a 6 month waiting list for an Evoque 4.5 years after production began? It sells very well the world over and for good reason. Find me something nicer in this class and price range. This looks and feels a mile better than it's closest rival.
+Sandouras Because there's nothing really exciting to shout about. In comparison to the German offering, it's a bit of a joke, and not a very funny joke at that!
Today i recieved a call from my Land Rover Service shop, they informed me that i need a new engine. I own a 2014 Evoque with less than 65k miles.
Ginny is an excellent car reviewer. It's so unfair that people keep putting her down and comparing her to Rebecca. Keep up the good work Ginny!

Was the script written by Range Rover's PR department? Sure sounds like it. Felt like i was listening to an advert. Nice car but not perfect by any means. To me it's starting to look a little dated now.
British people reviewing british cars. What do you expect?

I have one of these, wife loves it, me not so much. Turbo has bottom end lag and then goes like a scalded cat once boost comes on and the transmission constantly hunts for the proper gear like it was put in as an after thought. It does handle good, interior finish is good, infotainment could be improved. The heated steering wheel and windshield is the greatest feature of the vehicle in the winter. For the price they could have got it much better imo.
Okay carbuyer, you can not say anything good about British cars because it upset some of our foreign viewers. Lets forget the fact this is a very good car and Jaguar/Land Rover owners are among the happiest in the industry.
Around the world, Jaguar and Land Rover are known as overpriced and unreliable. Only the British have an obsession with them. They score very poorly on reliability, and most people prefer the German rivals.
+Kev50027 I'm a Brit and I don't particularly like JLR cars. If other people choose to, that's fine by me. If some Brits are patriotic about their brand, that's fine too. French and Germans generally are and no one seems to begrudge them that. I don't identify with JLR, but don't mind those who do. What I do mind is the people who generalise about Brits and criticise them for doing what they'd find normal or unremarkable in other countries.
+Real Ale Rules well said..! JLR will never outsell the Germans even in Britain because Britain is full of sheep. Not saying German cars are bad but just break away from the trends, be different..!
Apparently, if you go for the four door its more practical and easier to get in the back. Cheers for that.

I test drove this car after testing a Mercedes GLA. The GLA drove like a sporty hatch; the Evoque drove much more like a truck.

It's funny how she says "You can move quickly between the different screens" while showing that there's a full second lag between pressing the touchscreen and something happens. Is the infotainment system always this sluggish?

I own one and there are no bad points, it's a tank, it handles well, it's quick and has decent economy. For a luxury suv it ticks all the box's the downside is it's expensive when you add options but at base price it's actually better value than most German rivals

How so? Before Land Rover was Indian owned, it was owned by Ford. Ford then implemented their designs which we still see here. Not sure why but they are. If you have any doubt, do we think it is just mere coincidence that the Range Rover and the Explorer look almost identical? The Evoque and Escape?
So... Pleather covering most of the dashboard is considered a luxurious finish?I'm not a bmw or an audi guy myself, but comparing the evoque's build quality with that of an x1 or q3's, I'm sure most of us would consider the latter as the most reassuring products regarding build quality. IMHO, build quality lacks substance, the same feeling I get from (unfortunately) the jag xe, and xf. This video looked more like a paid advert...
I just wondered how annoying the small rear screen is to Evoque Owners? Cheers....

Guys at Carbuyer, you need to figure out how to edit sound and volume. It is tiresome to try to catch what you're saying when using the outdoor mic and then to accept the full blast when you voice the video in the studio. Could you do that? Could you figure out how to adjust levels to be flat through the entire video?
the GLE is a better off roader. they didn't mention about the 9 speed transmission problem and the car doesn't get a low ratio gearbox.
Been looking at this with one or two others to replace a current car. Macan is the best driving car although not by much but the interiors are all buttons and bling. X3 is well built and like the Audi has great technology, is nice inside but feels a bit dated. In truth hard to choose between them. We're in Australia and will be going off-road on the forest tracks so perhaps the Evoque with its Terrain Response, will get the vote.
A pity about the sound which should have been fixed before loading what is otherwise an excellent and well balanced review. More from this lady please rather than from those whose glass is at best always half empty.

It’s a shame they were built using aluminium bolts in the electric steering rack motor which snap due to corrosion. They were replaced by steel bolts in 2018 production. About a £3000 for a new steering rack when the aluminium bolts snap. Recalled in Canada but not the UK
With Diesel on the way out how does the Petrol version do in comparison
between evoque and bmw x4 what would you recommend ?
It depends the use of the car
I like the evoque to drive but if you want this as a family car I wouldn't bother. It drives nice and if it's just you or a couple driving it then it is nice but the back just feels enclosed and small, it doesn't feel that wide inside and the boot feels small. I much prefer the freelander and I think it's a real shame they've stopped production. That being said I am excited to see the evoque convertible it looks a bit ugly with the hood up but with the hood down its beautiful and for years I have been wanting a convertible that has height to it.
Same here I definitely would consider this if it was just a few inches longer and wider. It's really tiny compared to other small Jeeps but the backseat legroom isn't all that bad.

Yes it is, we've recently taken delivery of the facelift model and we're really pleased with it...it's a great car!

Victory Beckham still looks goods - standing besides her RR on the Motorway waiting for the mechanic to fix it. I once owned a Discovery (4 years old). It was the first car where I had a MONTHLY visit to the garage. Everything just jell apart and about 6000€ every year just to keep the damn thing running.

It's smart when the car has a 4x4 clever system but the driver isn't in controle because if the computer on the car messes up then your screwed

I think that Mat Watson is the best car presenter on the Carbuyer's youtube channel, and I didn't really like this presenter she was a bit boring and I felt like she didn't know what she was talking about in some parts of the videos, like she only memorised the script and not studied it.
The editor should have done a better work on the audio but I'll allow it this time because this is the only time that I felt uncomfortable on one of the Carbuyer's videos, all the other times I know that Carbuyer is my favourite british youtube channel about cars.

I agree I think it looks dated. I feel likes its only been a 3 years but it's been around since 2011, and with Range Rover only evolving their look faster than Porsche it'll probably look the same for years.
+Sebastian Lim IMO, I don't think so. The Evoque was like the BMW I8 of SUVs when it came out and still is compared pretty much all the cars coming out now. When you see one on the road youll know what I mean, it stands out instantly compared to bimmers, mercs or audis. You can't really tell on a video

It looks great and I guess it's easy to shit on a popular car to appear cool. Evoques have a 6 month waiting list after 4.5 years of production. That says a lot.

The rhythm and terminology in this "review" sounded like an advert to me...More and more of the "top 10" videos makes it sound like Carbuyer are under pressure from sister company/magazine to keep manufacturer's happy and not use viewers/users.

Its subjective,but personally i cannotstand 'light, bright interiors, flooded with light'. I find them very tiring on my eyes. I much prefer dark or black headlinings and dark seats with matt finished dashboards, preferably black. this is much more restful to me. I never use a sunroof and the pan roof to me is a total no-no.
No real fuel economy figures mentioned, no mention of the tiny luggage compartment and so on... this ain't a real review, it's advertisement.
Land Rover (Range Rover) and Jag have reliability issues. I own one and so do 2 of my neighbours. We all agree we will never buy another as we’ve all had problems within 2 years of owning one.
