    Great review, thanks a lot. One thing I'd like to add or correct is that the paddles are not necessarily meant to make it sporty but to manually downshift when driving down a hill to use engine brakes. Back in the days we had a lever saying P R N D 3 2 1 and we'd just shift down a gear driving down a mountain. Now we do it with the paddles.
    I suppose it's only relevant if you live in a hilly area / mountain area. I live near the Alps, therefore I need frequently.

    This is a really a good ownership review. There are a few youtubers who just give 6 months ownership review of a car just to highlight the comfort and technology. Ownership review video should also include maintanence, quality and any parts replacement for car. Really good honest car review and a good reference video for anyone who is planning to buy a used Evoque.

    Great informative review. I have an old 2008 LR Freelander 2 with 120000 miles and wouldn’t part with it - get 40mpg on a long run, still comfortable, everything still works, I can service most things myself and the FWD is really effective when called on. If you look after most LR’s they are pretty reliable. Thanks again for a reasonably positive LR review 😁

      I've a close friend with a 2010 Freelander HSE. It's lovely. Hoping to do a swap with him one day soon so I can bring it to the channel. I think a lot of people run LRs on a tiny budget, then they wonder why they don't work??!!

      I would keep the freelander if it is good, my 2016 evouque only gets 30 mpg on average. too many silly warning signs coming on and off and niggly things like bonnet open when it's been closed so you have to open and shut it again, manual gearshift inactive when it's a auto ! !....but it' is a lovely drive though😊

      @Alidumanify how many km/ miles? The dpf is a problem if you drive short distances. It gets clogged up but that's with many new diesels, also in my Volkswagen. I drove around 15'000km with check engine on because there was something with the exhaust system to get fixed.(after 170'000km.) but now everything is good and it's at 198'000km

    • @c190gtc
      @c190gtc 2 роки тому

      @Alidumanify if those 10-15 miles are one drive, you don't have to worry. 15 miles should be enough to get an engine warm and I know that from my diesels. However I guess it's through the whole day, so there is nothing much you can do, besides using higher quality fuel, or more useful, get it on the highway for at least once a week. If you drive at higher speeds than lets say 70mph, engine oil can get up over 100 degree celsius so all the water and fuel vaporizes from the oil, and also exhaust temperatures get higher, so that soot is blown out when you press the gas pedal.
      - Get in on the highway at least 1x a week, and when you do so, don't be afraid to push it to 3000rpm for once
      - be careful with cold starts, usually don't rev over 2000
      Even if the dpf makes problems, there are different ways to fix it than replacing it, like for ex, cleaning it

    • @c190gtc
      @c190gtc 2 роки тому

      @Alidumanify do you have the 180hp diesel?

    • @c190gtc
      @c190gtc 2 роки тому

      @Alidumanify you'll notice that the dpf is regenerating when suddenly the consumption starts to rise. Just keep driving normal, don't push it too hard while it's regenerating.
      If you out of warranty and free service, don't hesitate to change oil already at 20-25'000km. Don't wait for 30k+, it's just to much - or 18 months, whichever comes first.

    Great review. I still have my original top of the range 2012 Evoque SD4 Dynamic i ordered from new. Done 144000kms and I still love this car. Service it once a year....all electrics and everything still works since new , and for the most part, i consider it reliable, but the only things that have required change over 9 years is 2 x starter motors, and a new valve body for the six speed auto transmission. The valve body was because it started flaring a bit in 3rd & 4th gear shifts.
    I think the original design looks better then the new one. While the new one looks like it has had botox...slightly less character overall in my opinion.

    • @midlifemotors5050
      @midlifemotors5050  3 роки тому +4

      Great stuff, sounds like you've got a good one 👍 The original design is so much nicer, I agree. Even prefer the original DRLs to the updated ones which just went the same way as the rest of the range.

    • @benzinabnz822
      @benzinabnz822 3 роки тому +4

      @@midlifemotors5050 Nailed it too about the original DRL's...totally agree. Just on a side note, the 2.2L diesel engine i have in the Evoque, was actually derived from the PSA Group (Peugeot/Citroen), and is known as the PSA DW12. Another bit of interesting info, is the 6-speed Auto in mine is an Aisin (Japanese), and the starter motors are Denso (Also Japanese). So i was a bit surprised these failed me, as "Made in Japan" is largely synonymous with outright reliability. I guess just wear & tear really.
      But yep, your right, besides these things, its been a real Gem to own in every way over all these years.
      I find the 6 speed auto works well with the high torque delivered by the diesel...its a sort of relaxing drive because of the torque, and thus without the hunting of gears.
      Mine is Indus Silver with a black roof, and 20'' shadow Chrome wheels of the same design as yours. This thing still turns heads everywhere i go, even after all these years, which again, is testament to its bold, unique and radical design masterpiece that it is.
      Keep up the great work. Cheers

    I believe there is now a LRJ recall to replace these bolts. They are recalling from early 2017 to start with and then working their way to the older models. If they fail before the recall then they will repair it free of charge as it is a known issue. You do have to wait for the recall letter as they won't allow you to just book it in for the replacement bolts. Hope this helps.

      Nice if you can get them with really low miles that haven't been used at all, but be very wary of any used diesel with generally low mileage. It most likely means it has only been used for local trips so will be coked up. I made the mistake with my current car, 20k lower miles than average but for exactly that reason, the owner had only done 4k miles a year and probably only used it to go to the local shops. It took me 2 years to get it running right, had to swap out both turbos in the end, had the DPF cleaned 3 times, EGR valves, you name it. With diesel I'd go the other way and look for a higher mileage one that's only been up and down the motorway every day.

    I’ve got a 66 plate, had it 1 year with 35000 on the clock, had issues with the engine management light since June, drove OK but got it in at the first opportunity, fault was diagnosed as a Nox2 sensor which was replaced under a third party warranty, picked it up 3 weeks later and took it for a 30 mile drive, no problems at all.
    Turned the engine off and when I went to use it the next day, engine management light back on again!! Booked it in again and fault diagnosed as faulty EGR valve and cooler, still in the garage being replaced under warranty again, it’s affected how I feel about driving a Land Rover without a warranty as I’d be around £1300 out of pocket for the two fixes for a car I’ve owned for a year, my plan is to get the car back (eventually) leave it a month or so and then trade it in for either a BMW X3, a Volvo XC60 or an Audi Q5

    The good first. I had a 2014. I've had 37 new vehicles in my life. From a Suzuki Samurai, to Corvette Grand Sport and just about everything in-between. I've had 2 LR Discoveries and then the Evoque. I now have a $68,000 Jeep Wrangler electric hybrid. I've had 6 Wranglers. All very reliable. Pickup trucks from Toyota to Ford to Chevy to Honda. OH, and even a Mazda B4000 which is basically a Ford Ranger. With all that said, I loved the drive and feel, and character of all 3 of my LR products more then anything else I ever had. What I didn't love is that all 3 were literally the most unreliable vehicles of everything I've had. The Evoque was the worst. The transmission needed 8 updates and it still was awful. Engine cooling light, plastic body trim pieces always needed to be snapped back into place. My wife and I rented a Hurtz rental car to take a 15 hour trip because I didn't trust that my Evoque would make it without trouble. My brothers Range Rover had a ton of problems. With that said, he just bought a new Discovery Sport. Why, because there is just something about LR products that touches on all 5 of ones senses, maybe even a sixth. He traded in his perfect Jeep Cherokee for it. My wife's Jeep Cherokee is also perfect at 45K miles. Here I am, looking at the new Defender. I get goosbumps when I watch reviews of it. I still love the idea of getting another Evoque perhaps. I just can't get LR out from under my skin. What to do. Hmmm, love these awful English box's.

      Think you've hit the nail on the head right there tbh. How can JLR create such a strong brand, build cars we all want then go and let it all down with basic quality assurance issues. It's like they've done the hard bit then just loose focus. I mean in this day and age how hard can it be?? 100k in a Rav4, not a single issue and still going strong. And this is par for the course from a Toyota. Get it together JLR!!

    My one was a little bit unlucky , not the steering wheel, but the turbo failure , this K03 by Borgwarner is notoriously bad for the oil seal and it was lack of power n burning white gas out of the exhaust, and the oil leak of the turbo destroy the whole cat , luckily I works as a mechanic n getting aftermarket parts is dirt cheap for me, and it runs perfectly afterwards.
    I got more than ten customers drive with this model have very few problems, the most common one r the thermostat housing leaking water, ac pump failure, or rear parking sensor problems. Other than that just regular service, for the European car stand point , this baby is relatively reliable if compare to bmw , VW n Audi s SUVs.

    I'm a now a Range rover evoque sd4 2014 owner. I just recently bought the car & now. I've driven the car & and found massive problems with steering- knocking , clunking, advised, and a recall on this car. It's going into Land Rover !
    Why didn't the previous owner take it to Land Rover ..
    This massive problem jumping out it's so obvious ..
    Crazy!
    Did the previous owners not here & feel the noices??
    Is anyone reading any comments...
    Surely this problem hasn't just started making all these noises?
    It's frightening!
    Only by chance I phoned land Rover to ask if the could check the vehicle out making awful din on front end?
    To be told about the Recall!
    Previous owner Surely didn't get rid not realising it had a Recall???

    • @severnsea
      @severnsea Місяць тому

      Some people never think to check for recalls on an older car and assume it's out of warranty or that any recalls have already been done. I've also heard that a general recall hasn't been issued for the steering rack issue, but that JLR are doing them a batch at a time and advising customers when theirs is due to be done. I know there have been reported problems but it hasn't affected a large number of vehicles.
      But if something has just failed or gone wrong there's every chance that they didn't know anything was wrong or was about to go wrong. A fault isn't a fault until it actually occurs. Didn't you spot it on your test drive? Don't tell me you bought it without test driving it?
      Or they probably did know, got a quote for a big bill and sold it on instead. I would never buy a car without an AA or RAC inspection and at least 3 months warranty, then you can take it straight to your local garage, have them go over everything and look for any potential faults then take it straight back if you find any. Better spend a bit extra when you buy it than get a big bill shortly after because you didn't do any checks.

    Nice review. I'm looking for one at the moment, so very useful but one or two strange comments in there. The 6 speed XF gearbox is a fine gearbox, got it in my current car and it's been very well received all over the world so I don't really understand your comments on that.
    The Sport and Dynamic modes do make a difference. If they dpn't in your car, something's not working. The paddles can be handy for a quick change down, again I have them in my car but if you're happy just pottering around in it that's fine, bot not everybody wants to drive like that and sometimes we like that bit of extra functionality. I don't understand why you're complaining about a function you don't even use.
    My understanding is the original steering racks with the issues were aluminium, and there have been a few reports in early models of the issue. I may be wrong.

It would cost my around 20,000 euros in Europe?

    Great review. That's a lovely looking motor, when they first came out with the posh spice links, the rear of the car, the hype? I didn't like them - it all felt like early Sierras, five years before their time. The Evoque has aged well though, still looks very contemporary too, so it's grown on me. The question is; a 9 year old Evoque or a 9 year old Cayenne (supported by a local specialist as opposed to the local main dealer rip off merchant)?
    The bolt issue is a shocker - I love JLR products but I'm not sure if I'd like to live with one. I've loved LRs and RRs since childhood, my dad had a S2 and S3 swb. His friend had a very early RR circa 1970 - I loved riding in that and our neighbour sometimes gave us a lift in the early GTX RRs too. So I love them, came close to owning a RR but there was always something wrong with the car when I chipped away at it, so I gave up. I've also friends who've worked for JLR under contract, so I've seen it through other eyes. Similar issues with friends/employers who've had F types etc. Having said all of that the Freelander was good vehicle iirc and that factory made good cars fwict.
    With the bolts - are they easy to access to spray with a thin rust preventative, that will also run into the threads etc? Eg Supertrol or similar?
    Sounds like JLR have ruined the ship for a ha'porth of tar - they don't want to fess up, par for the course with the motor industry 😠 Stainless steel bolts to the correct tensile strength would have been a better bet.

      The evoque is still a great looker, no doubt. The Zanzibar colour of that car really helped it stand out. Tbh I’m not a fan of the Porsche looks and they’re by no means as reliable as the press would have you believe either.
      The bolts is a random thing, they’re not easy to get to no and one is hidden by the subframe so it’s a lot of labour. It is now a recall, finally, so that helps and if you go for 2017 or newer then the problem doesn’t exist.
      Check the lights for delamination, mine were just starting to show, and check the steering wheel controls and auto close all works otherwise it may need a new battery and that’s pricey. Otherwise the evoque does seem like a safe, reliable and cost effective car in my experience.
      Thanks for watching and great comments 👍

      Unfortuately it's not quite as simple as someone suggested and often people spend money replacing the wrong bolts. 1 of the steering rack bolts is obscured by the subframe. If it was only £100 pounds JLR would have done a recall no doubt. Fortuately this car wasn't effected however our dicosport (seen in a later video) has just returned from the dealer having suffered the dreaded fate. Fortunately "fixed on failure" which saves ££thousands. As I said, great car, but people do need to be aware.

    Ok so your comment on the steering rack issue is wrong! Firstly don’t scare folks thinking they won’t be able to steer! It’s not the bolts holding the rack in place it’s the bolts holding the electric power steering motor to the rack! And they are made from aluminium not mild steel!!! As they were not protected then would start corroding with salt water ingress (so coastal vehicles and those in large urban areas that have a lot of winter gritting would have the issue). I was part of the campaign to force JLR to firstly implement the fix on failure policy and then later to get the recall with the DVSA going. As of Jan 2023 all affected Evoques are covered (2011-2017).

    A bit thirstier than a thought for a 2.0, but I guess it’s AWD and has 250bhp.

    The problem is not the three bolts, but the ridiculous amount of money they charge to get them replaced. The same ridiculous price as on every other Land Rover repair.
    So buy this car, especially the older 2.2l Diesel last longer than the newer Ingenium, but drive it only under warranty. As soon as the warranty expires, sell this car. People have repair costs all the way from 3000 for a simple fuel pump to 14000 for gear boxes or engine failures. A lot of cars get stolen or crashed to get insurance before a repair is neccessary. No one, that owned a LandRover, will ever buy a LandRover again, if he experienced the ridiculous repair costs. That's why LandRover now has problems selling any vehicles. Watch the channel 'LR time' to get insight.

    Great video, just this morning I went to the dealership to buy this car, exactly the used 2.2 engine with automatic gearbox. I was told that they will be looking for an imported one from Germany, mileage around 120,000 kilometers with automatic transmission, what can you advise me? I clearly told him certified cars and regular maintenance, I intend to redo the distribution at least to rest assured, all around € 22,000 / 23,000. Thank you!

    • @midlifemotors5050

      Glad you liked it. They are good cars if you buy wisely. The 2.2 engine with the 9 speed gearbox does work well. Depending on age the timing belt may need done. Advised every 7 years here in the UK. Check tyres and brakes too. They do last well but pricey when time to replace. Otherwise just enjoy the car.

    Keep looking at these, such a great looking Range Rover esp considering yours is 7 years old loos better then some new cars today. I own a BMW and have 26500 miles on the clock (2017 1 series) and had a sensor gone on the exhaust something to do with air pressure sensor and the clutch needed to be change (this all paid for out of my pocket) its probably the worst gearbox ever, but for a clutch to go like that is disgusting read others have had the same (been driving for 30+ yrs so yes I know how to drive lol) So I find all cars have some sort of issues , also owned a Merc with 33k and the timing chain stretched even though I serviced the car yearly.
