Model 3 in the UK - it’s a lot of road spray during this time of the year, auto wipers can’t cope with that. Also in heavy rain it casually wipes on level 1/2. Nighttime when cars coming opposite it completely freezes. 90% of the time it’s NOT working unfortunately.

My 4year old Model 3 wipers worked reasonably ok for a few years but since the holiday update it’s shocking. It seems to only go at 1 speed regardless of the rain strength. I have to manually go up and down in speeds.

The thing that annoys me, as a 2-time Tesla owner, is that they eliminate physical sensors (radar, parking, rain, etc.) without a fully functional software based replacement in place. So the result is things suck for years until they eventually get it right, or good enough.

Second only to the disappointment with FSD delivering on what I’ve paid for, auto wipers are a big disappointment. I’ve seen slight improvement since holiday update, but similar experience to you with not fast enough in heavy rain or too slow in mist. Tesla should have installed a $10 rain sensor from day one. Then removed once the software was ready and working well.

    • @InternetDude

That's because Tesla took out the physical rain sensor mounted on the windshield. Other automakers and even my older Model S's used the physical sensor. They use the camera image to detect rain and obviously it's inferior (but getting better).

  • @raymonddsouza8948

I wonder if they could have a 'training mode' where you manually run the wipers using the stalk button when you feel it is appropriate, perhaps over a 60-second period (or some other fixed period of time), so the system can match the amount of rain the cameras pick up and when you ask to wipe the windscreen, then lock this in as your preference?

Of all the hills to die on why on earth did Tesla choose Wipers 👀😂
I was having dire troubles with my 2020 Model 3 SR Plus during 2023. Then I noticed watery stains on the windscreen that didn’t wash out. Very annoying and distracting to my driving.
So I did some YT investigation and settled on a method using dry 0000 Wire Wool followed with a wash and then coating with RainX or similar.

My voice commands weren’t being well understood either, then I wondered if it was because Tesla have not yet added Australian English to their languages. British English was done only last year.
So I switched to saying wiper (and all other) commands using an American accent.

Much safer than looking at the screen or looking down in my other cars with buttons all over the cabin. I now rarely take my eyes off the road.

Doing things differently is only clever if it works as well or (preferably) better. The sooner Tesla realises this, the better. I would much rather they focussed on fixing issues like the annoying wipers before they added “features” like making a fart noise when locking the car. I won’t buy another ICE vehicle, but at this stage I’m unlikely to buy another Tesla, the little annoying things add up to an incredibly frustrating experience at times.

I experienced this today, driving from Richmond to Tullamarine. It has improved but still not perfect. Also, I'm finding I have to talk in an American accent to call people. Try saying "Con" turns to "Khan" so frustrating. (The text on the screen changes from Con to Khan). I'm driving to Sorrento on Thursday. My first long trip using my model Y.

@RyanCowan oh cool. I have a family beach house down there, so I'm there every summer. Unfortunately, my Tesla Y 23 is faulty. I've sent it to the Tesla Service centre for the second time within 6 months. Most features become disabled (random time). They replaced the steering column control module but it didn't work I guess.

I own a Tesla and I appreciate the wipers being automatic. I just can not appreciate to manually wipe my windows any much longer. This car is so future-like. But sometimes I do wipe the windows on my own because of the guilt and AI approaching alittle too fast, and I am on the front seat of it!
That is why I actually wipe my own windows even to this day! Its the least I can do for a future that is gonna wipe my ass and rubbing shampoo in the shower for me. We need to be free! We need to manually wipe our windows on our Teslas. I bought the x1000 that is a modern piece of handheld wipers. I feel so cool when I have to use it.

  • @ChipMIK
    @ChipMIK 5 місяців тому

Same crap ever since i bought my TM3 2021, which was known but everyone laughed of how bad wiper and "auto"-dim performed but we just used it manually. With the "Vision" downgrade it became outright terrible and a horrible stress-factor during winter with wipers going berserk with no chance of stopping the wipers, which was finally possible with OTA before christmas.
Wiper-auto (and AP + "auto-dim) in Tesla HW3.0 (& prob 4.0 too) will never become as good as in other cars. The cameras are simply not suited for the job. TM3 has had wiper "auto" based on cameras for +6 years now and they are still by far the worst auto on the market of any western car. This being due to cameras used and not a proprietary rain sensor.
Same with AP after the "Vision" downgrade where the radar was inhibited = 500 Meters of visibility in daylight and you start to get "Reduced speed due to limited visibility" and at 300 Meters the car slows down to 7 Km/h on that same road. Outright terrible but people somehow keeps buying the cars.
And finally its same on "auto"-dim where the cameras truly fails miserably with flashing headlights in the dark from reflections, especially during rain/after rain + 3-8 secs after passing oncoming traffic until it finally goes back to hi-beam. This due to the cams being saturated and too slow to regain sensitivity which adjusted November 2022 from blinding everything to being that slow.
