This informative video is providing the consumer a clear "disclosure" of what minimal effort it takes to access the contents of this perceived "safe" box. It's amazing how many get upset about exposing the vulnerabilities to their so called fireboxes/safes. However, once they lose their precious family heirlooms, documents, jewelry, guns etc.. THEN they say.. "wish I had known". Well HERE is your wake up call. Excellent Video.
Thank you for posting this video, was about to pick one up from the local warehouse because they are on sale, and decided to look up some info on this product. You guys saved me 200 bucks! ^_^
A great many gun safes have this same vulnerability, and others. Some, I kid you not, can be opened with a McDonald's straw. Others, require something a bit more sophisticated: a paper clip. There are toddlers, on video, opening some of these things in under 10 seconds. And then closing them and doing it again because it's so much fun. Adorable to watch and hear, really, until you consider the ramifications.
thank you so much. You just saved me a whole lot of money when my Sentry Safe stops letting me in. I bought a magnet for $16 from Amazon and I was able to make it happen. Sincerely thank you so much you really save me a lot of time and money
My safer is fairly old mabybe about 25 years, I tried your magnet approach but it did not work. I even tapped it with a rubber mallet to see if maybe it was stuck as it is so old, but that did not work either. Placed the magnet exactly where you suggested and moved it around a few time but it did not open. Here are the numbers I see pasted on the door A5865 and AK395372. Not sure what there are? Any suggestions? Maybe I got a good safe from Sentry? Last time I was in Vancouver was for the Wordl's fair. Brother live there!
I just started thinking of how many people have piece of mind and think no one can get to their valuables...when the truth is anyone, absolutely ANYONE!!!!...! Can get in the safe, anytime they want to. That truly makes me sad. It's true when they say," NOTHING IS SAFE ANYMORE!"
THANKS! I had the combination, but even after replacing batteries it didn't open. Used the 9 volt battery trick and it opened immediately. Apparently there is a small disc battery that also needs replacing.
If it uses power to retain its user programmable memory, that's bad. That means you could short the battery terminals and clear it's memory. ...leaving just the factory default code (typically 1234, 1001, 9999 or 0000) to open it.
Burglars don't carry around a big magnet when they break into a home nor do they have a big pry bar and hammers.I'm sure they also don't have a hand truck. The safe is too heavy to pick up if its not bolted to the floor. Burglars go for the easy stuff when the alarm is sounding and police are on there way. They are not breaking into a safe. Any safe can be broken into with the right tools and time.
Magnet trick failed, but dropping one corner of it a few times seems to have reset the solenoid somehow, re-enabling the electronic keypad function. Thanks for the "peak behind the curtain" of the door mechanism.
What's not completely obvious here but should be: if a safe uses a keypad (i.e., needs batteries) and has no key or rotary dial then it will use a selenoid somewhere since there is no mechanically-induced rotary or linear motion to retrack restraining bolts. All selenoid pins are moved by magnetic fields. Strong (rare earth) magnets will do. Stay with non-electric safes for non-fire security.
I have a mechanical SENTRY SAFE and am unable to open it, with instructions and code available.... so should I just use a pry bar or a magnet? Model G5241-2ST.
The magnet opening method for Sentry Safe's is in fact, VERY easy to detect, all it takes is a little Locksmith Forensics. Simply lay the safe on i's back ... sprinkle the safe door (in the solenoid area) with fine iron filings, .. give the safe a few taps, or light kicks, AND??? .... The iron fillings, will reveal that a strong agent has been placed there ... the steel in the door permanently takes on the magnetism.
I admit I'm not up on the latest models ... but I have not seen any with plastic on the outside of the doors .. all plastic inside for sure ... but yes if there's plastic on the outside of the doors? I can't think how it could be detected .. good point.
The Sentry Safe X055 has about 5 ways to defeat the safe. Lots of videos on UA-cam.And yes, a magnet will open the X055 but it is easier to bounce of just "dead hammer" it
He could offer higher security mechanisms, but why should he do that for free? Sentry is not his company, and he has had zero involvement in its poor design, so why should he offer his upgrades for free?
This will probably work on any electronic safe or lock. Solenoid protection is only good if thief does not know the direction of the solenoid. They should change it to electric motor latch, where motor has to make like 10 turns to unlock and add a reed switch to detect an attempt and time lock for like an hour.
Mike P For lost key or combination go to the Senty Safe website and contact them. Good service and it doesn’t take too long. If you are in a rush Contact your local locksmith. (Not hard to open :-)
does this work on older sentry safe models? i have one in my garage that i gave up on getting into until i saw this video. i can provide a picture of it if will help.
If you want to keep your valuables safe from thieves you have to buy a real security safe. Anything under 1000 dollars is probably not going to keep someone from breaking in to the safe. There's a reason most of those lock boxes are labeled as "fire safes". Not to mention anything that isn't bolted down or too heavy to carry is just making things easier for the thief by putting all your valuables into one convenient location inside an easy to carry portable box that can be broken into later.
+Eric Sentner hey eric, if you ever hear about actual magnetic shielding, please be sure to let me know. I don't think there has ever been such a thing discovered at all .... od tell me it you hear of something like this ... anyone else know about magnetic shielding? inventorz at yahoo dot com
Do most (or all) sentry safes use the same magnetic solenoid? Is this magnet a good investment to open these things? I own a locksmith shop and was wondering if this is a good tool to have.
did you have any luck with this technique? My keypad also stopped working, even after a battery change, and I'm trying to figure out how to get in. I tried messing with the wires and a battery, but no luck...
+Matt Atienza I did not have a rare earth magnet strong enough to pull the mechanism AND apparently I placed my heavy iron magnet in the wrong spot. Sadly, I ended up destroying the safe by using a large crowbar to get my stuff. In my case, the release mechanism was near the hinge on top, not the other side. A strong magnet in the right spot (including the one I used) may have worked as it appeared pretty simple. If you use the magnet, try it in different areas around the door and striking it to break the mechanism free if it's stuck.
Try that on the Sentry Safe SFW123UDC with audible intrusion alarm. Can you do the same without tripping the alarm? I only ask because I just purchased the SFW123UDC model.
There seem to be several videos about how easy it is to get into these electronic safes. I never considered buying any safe with an electronic lock. You say that the non-electronic safes are also vulnerable, but I see no video on that. Until I see what is involved in a Non-Destructive opening of such a safe I have no basis for judging your "easy".
Rickardo Phillips Inexpensive non-electronic safes (dials/keys) sold at most consumer stores are vulnerable. Lots of UA-cam videos showing how they can be bounced open and other methods. I should do a few but they are so easy to open and lots of people have done videos it gets a bit repetitive. Do some searches.
Hey this is a really stupid question but I'm terrible with this stuff. How do you open this safe with the magnetic key? Because idk the combination but I have the key and it isn't opening. Or do you need both?
I have a century safe from like 8 years ago and it has a skeleton type key and I bet it can't be opened without a key if you know a way I want to know how I've been trying to pick it for fin for years
Ok I have a quick question what would be the best kind of house locks you can buy for the money and whats the best kind of security safe you can buy for the money
with a sentry safe like this, www.sentrysafe.com/pdfs/OwnersManuals/516247.pdf at the bottom of page 4 it looks like even if you were to override the solenoid with a strong enough magnet, youd still need a key to open it, correct?
I see slot of these but they are all with electronic locks, please do the same test with a mechanical combination lock. not saying it can't be done but why would a criminal bypass so many valuables to hope there's something better in the fire safe bolted to the floor in my closet? I mean if I have done my job right then my schedule would appear random to a point to them so they wouldn't know when I would be home so they wouldn't want to be cought dicking around with a small fire safe. they will grab what they can and run. but no ur right I should go by s safe from you 10 times the price and have nothing left to put in it. You guys are great salesmen good job.
My mom's n dad cut the Male end of the cord, replaced it for a female one and the spliced the 2 males together to make a "pigtail "for the tv. Pigtail was a foul word around our place gauranteed to create a problem and stress
Hello all... I was looking for some help opening a similar lock except it had a dial combination... My wife recently passed away and she had the key on the ring so we were able to turn the key portion but it still won't open so apparently you need to enter the combo as well. Is there any tricks to getting around this? I reall have no clue what's in the safe so I wanted to be carful and possible opening it not to damage anything. Any ideas???
IT'S NOT A SECURITY SAFE PEOPLE... IT'S A FIRE SAFE. FIRE DON'T HAVE MAGNETS OR WANT TO STEAL YOUR CRAP. Your supposed to be able to get in them easily. After a fire all the plastic knobs and buttons melt off. Magnets and prying is what they expect your yo do. It's an amazing safe for fire protection.
How do you protect the contents inside, like money and papers from getting mold? The silica gel packet that comes with the safe does not work. I found mold all over my stuff.
I have a safe like this one except my keypad wire was cut so I can't use it anymore. Been locked out of it for almost 2 years. Does this method work if their is no power going into the safe?
If the lockout was not a malfunction the safe will still open witht the factory code. Opened a safe on Saturday with a Rare Earth Magnet and the customer had the code inside the safe. He tested it and it still workeded.
Thanks for the video, i was just about to buy centrysafe and put all my valuables. Now i am thinking of buying Bighorn Heavy Duty 6.9 Cu Ft Safe, 60 min Fire Protection with The Securam ECSL-601 electronic lock with UL certified swingbolt lock design, do you think swingbolt is good enough and magnet hack proof? Please suggest. A Buglary victim.
So this is an electronic safe. Can you also open a combination locked safe as easliy? If so, the safe is pretty useless when someone has a magnet. What about the fire rating and waterproof capabilities the safe has. If those arent useless then the safe is prepared to keep items safe in case of a fire...etc
Hi, I have a Sentry S5741 and I can't open it by using the magnetic. I have the code and key and it's been working fine before but now it doesn't seem to work. I also check to make sure the battery still good. Do you know the location of the solenoid of this model? Thanks
What I’m trying to figure out then, is... 1. What’s the best fire proof safe to use then? 2. What’s the best security safe to get? 3. Can vaultek gun safes be broken into?
I have a dial sentry safe and tried to open with a magnet and it will not work I forgot the combination years ago would like to know how to open with out destroying it model 6250 bought in around 1992 or so
call Sentry customer service, with the serial number and proper paperwork proving you are the owner there is a good chance they have the combo of file. A locksmith that is registered with sentry can speed-up the process.
Our safe also has a barrel key lock. We have the code, but have lost the key when we moved. Will this work? Or will we have to have the key drilled? :o(
Mr. Locksmith, I have the TW8-331. Looks very very similar to your example in this particular video but larger. Nonetheless, I am in a jam. A battery exploded inside the digital housing and broke the battery casing in such a manner that I simply cannot replace the batteries as there is no housing to complete the circuit. I do NOT possess the key, rather unfortunately (it's inside...duh, I know). I know the digital combo but again, the battery issue. That is what brought me here. I bought the magnet but no luck. I have tried and tried and tried. I am beyond upset as I need my DD214 (military separation papers) for a job interview. Does this trick not work with no juice? Am I wasting my time? Thoughts. P.S. I have pictures if it will help.
how do I open the same safe but a generation older (same but with key) when the HANDLE FALLS OFF!? I just moved (when i went to open it the handle just fell off) the accuator triggers the lock but I can't get the pins to move for the door
all you need to do to fix this is replace the magnetic solenoid element with a strictly copper coil that is energized at the same time as the outer coil.
This informative video is providing the consumer a clear "disclosure" of what minimal effort it takes to access the contents of this perceived "safe" box. How about a dial combination sentry safe can your magnet open it or is this just for digital sentry safe?
You just taught everyone how to break into them. WTG!
pretty sure it is all over the place. I appreciate being made aware so I can stay away from this type of safe
Thanks guys! I greatly appreciate knowing how worthless those are.
Thank you! What is a good type of safe to buy to protect against theft? Any reccommendations?

Sometimes laying the safe on its back will cause it to open.
Put this safe inside another safe thats inside another safe thats inside another safe. That way its safe.
It would be safe to say that would work.
AKBuilder762
You mean it's a safe safe. 😁
If there is key function included or in addition to the combo pad, will you need to pick open the key cyl first?
so you guys are showing someone how to break into peoples safes.... Awesome!

All selenoid pins are moved by magnetic fields. Strong (rare earth) magnets will do. Stay with non-electric safes for non-fire security.
Has this been corrected since video first aired? Is there a fix... like replacing the solenoid with a different metal?
Sentry added a small magnet to the inside of the safe but we figured out a work around quickly.
Is the mechanical version secure? Meaning, does only electronic version have these problems?
what brands of safe to you recommend to store cash ,gold and silver bullion/coins???
You guys should try using a hard drive magnet from the older hard drives pre sata.
I have a mechanical SENTRY SAFE and am unable to open it, with instructions and code available.... so should I just use a pry bar or a magnet? Model G5241-2ST.
+Au Tom Magnet will not open most Mechanical Sentry Safes, YET!
Do you have a safe that you recommend for the common homeowner?
The magnet opening method for Sentry Safe's is in fact, VERY easy to detect, all it takes is a little Locksmith Forensics.

would this work on model X055 with no battery and no key ?
if soo where do i apply the magnet (below the keyhole) ?
The Sentry Safe X055 has about 5 ways to defeat the safe. Lots of videos on UA-cam.And yes, a magnet will open the X055 but it is easier to bounce of just "dead hammer" it
can you please make videos on the 5 ways to defeat the safe ?
thank you
@koala: ... wacko
Andrew_koala seems everyone can understand what he was asking. Maybe you should work on your comprehension.
Sentry should fix this embarrassment and proactively replace every customer safe [free of charge] affected by this design flaw.
He could offer higher security mechanisms, but why should he do that for free? Sentry is not his company, and he has had zero involvement in its poor design, so why should he offer his upgrades for free?
why its a fire safe, security was not in mind during design
Hi Mr.Locksmith, would your magnet solution work on Sentry safe that has both the lock and the electronic key pad?
Hen Sum The Rare Earth Magnet will only work on the solenoid. The mechanical lock has to have a key, be picked open or physical dmg to the lock.
This will probably work on any electronic safe or lock. Solenoid protection is only good if thief does not know the direction of the solenoid. They should change it to electric motor latch, where motor has to make like 10 turns to unlock and add a reed switch to detect an attempt and time lock for like an hour.
Does that work on the lock without the battery installed? In case the battery line is fully empty or taken away to disable the pin code?
Will the magnet work on a dial combination lock?
No, a dial combination won't have the solenoid that is being bypassed by the magnet. ewm, merrill's lockshop
how do you do it for the same safe but not the digital but the dial
Is the combination version as vulnerable?
Mike P A little bit harder to open. Again, it is only a Fire Resistant Box.
Mr. Locksmith is there a safe about this size you would recommend against theft and fire?
Mike P For lost key or combination go to the Senty Safe website and contact them. Good service and it doesn’t take too long. If you are in a rush Contact your local locksmith. (Not hard to open :-)
Could you please send me the link where can I buy the magnet for $ 15
What comparable safe would you recommend?
On the SFW082et electronic floor safe is the solenoid in the same location?
does this work on older sentry safe models? i have one in my garage that i gave up on getting into until i saw this video. i can provide a picture of it if will help.
Wires? What colors for cylinoid n can I jump with 9v
Only the old style Electronic Sentry Safes, they fixed the problem on newer models.
How hard would it be to modify the safe by adding a bit of magnetic shielding between the solenoid and the door panel to prevent this?
+Eric Sentner hey eric, if you ever hear about actual magnetic shielding, please be sure to let me know. I don't think there has ever been such a thing discovered at all .... od tell me it you hear of something like this ... anyone else know about magnetic shielding? inventorz at yahoo dot com
+Steve Oh I think its better to also put a gravity shield between the safe and solenoid, to balance any extra effect of the magnetic shield.
Do most (or all) sentry safes use the same magnetic solenoid? Is this magnet a good investment to open these things? I own a locksmith shop and was wondering if this is a good tool to have.
Thank you so much - you have given me hope. My electronic locking mechanism is dead and really need to get in. Will give this a try.
did you have any luck with this technique?
Thank you so much I was able to get into my unsafe and fine that one of my jewelry was gone but able to figure out who did it. THANKS for the video
I have a Sentry Safe DA3831. I bought a $5 95 lb pull magnet. Is the solenoid on the DA3831 in the same place as yours?
Try that on the Sentry Safe SFW123UDC with audible intrusion alarm. Can you do the same without tripping the alarm? I only ask because I just purchased the SFW123UDC model.
I am a locksmith and I can open anything. The alarm is ok but again, with time and skill anything can be defeated.
Would it work on SFW123FTC sentry safe its like yours except the handle bar is grey and it has an inside shelf
Are the non-electronic or combination Sentry Safes just as easy to open?
non-electronic Combination Sentry Safes use a differnet method but still easy to open. Destructive and Non-Destructive methods of entry.
There seem to be several videos about how easy it is to get into these electronic safes. I never considered buying any safe with an electronic lock. You say that the non-electronic safes are also vulnerable, but I see no video on that. Do all electronic safes have this same problem?
no, the Sargent and greenleaf model 6120 series is an actual lock designed for "real" safes and are found on better quality safes / gun safes.
I have a safe like this one except my keypad wire was cut so I can't use it anymore. Been locked out of it for almost 2 years. Does this method work if their is no power going into the safe?

Hi, I have a Sentry S5741 and I can't open it by using the magnetic. I have the code and key and it's been working fine before but now it doesn't seem to work. I also check to make sure the battery still good. Do you know the location of the solenoid of this model? Thanks
How about if you use the key? there is a key to double lock it besides the entry panel..???
What I’m trying to figure out then, is... 1. What’s the best fire proof safe to use then? 2. What’s the best security safe to get? 3. Can vaultek gun safes be broken into?
hi I have a old version of the one we the solenoid my if has a key also and I Los the keys how I can open with out of keys than

So what safe is a good safe to buy?
so do u think a 300lbs pull on century safe model # sfw205fyc
Fantastic Video Guys. Keep up the great work. Nick.
Our safe also has a barrel key lock. We have the code, but have lost the key when we moved. Will this work? Or will we have to have the key drilled? :o(
Look for a locksmith that can pick tubular "soda machine" locks
how strong a magnet is needed?

How do you open a combination safe
Bloody hell, 6 years and these guys haven't responded to this boke? Hope you got your papers out and nailed the interview mate!
Do the batteries in the safe have to be charged for the magnet trick to work?
Mr. Locksmith, does the combination version of this safe suffer from the same vulnerabilities?
Michael Maduske The combination version is slightly harder to open. Still offers good fire protection for the price.
@@24hrMrLocksmith Thank you
If the battery is dead does it still open?
any suggestions on a affordable water/fire/magnet proof safe? or at least the best bang for your buck?
where to find the rare earth magnet?
Try to look for N52 neodymium
GREAT VIDEO.. WHICH SAFE DO YOU RECOMMEND.. I LIKE THAT SIZE.. I'AM IN SAN DIEGO.. ARE THE ONES THAT ARE NOT DIGITAL BETTER???
how do I open the same safe but a generation older (same but with key) when the HANDLE FALLS OFF!? I just moved (when i went to open it the handle just fell off) the accuator triggers the lock but I can't get the pins to move for the door
+what shall it profit a man used a concrete saw
all you need to do to fix this is replace the magnetic solenoid element with a strictly copper coil that is energized at the same time as the outer coil.
Can you crack a mechanical sentry safe without a combination?
All Safes can be opened thats the business locksmiths do. Most Mechanical safes will require a locksmith to open.
Does this work with the safe that also needs a key because i lost both my key and code
my safe just switched off after I pressed the button on the side . how do I get it powered on again in order to punch the code
