Around 8 years ago (well before this channel), I did my first challenge run of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door- the Pre Hooktail Pit of 100 Trials run! The goal is exactly what it sounds like; you have to beat the entire Pit of 100 Trials including Bonetail before ever fighting Hooktail. Since I've done way harder challenges before, I also decided to make this a bit of a tutorial for challenge running the game!

Well first of all hero mode isn't getting any more major demos the only ones will be bug fixes and I'm pretty sure reed said in another comment that he does want to add a bringle skin although I don't know if he was joking or not but yeah I agree it should be in hero mode

Also. If you start the contact quest early, go into the pipe that starts chapter one, then go back. The contact will be there allowing you to get to West Rogueport early!
I love the way you titled the video. New TTYD players will have no concept of what a "pre=hooktail pit" is. This will help grow the community

@@kaiseremotion854 If you've watched even a second of any of the promotional footage you'd know it's nothing like a BDSP situation. There's room to argue that some of the artistic choices for the world look or work better in the GCN game but to insinuate that it'll be soulless is just absurd.
I still have it GameCube. So I see no reason to buy it.
So can you please play the rest of the game with all the badges and levels you got from the Pit. There are no videos of that. I feel like it would be hilarious and super chill to kick back after all your other crazy challenges.

Gosh, pre-Hooktail pit is so fun. I love the fact that both Goombella and Koops are so useful, I love the dynamic that peril adds in carefully managing healing and damage, and I love that it's challenging enough without being heavily dependent on superguarding ability. Fun recap of one of my favorite videogame challenges
Low key, I hope in the remake they go the extra mile and add some additional dialogue by Hooktail if you actually beat Bonetail beforehand, like

Thanks for the video/ tutorial! I didn't end up doing a pre-hooktail pit, but I did just beat Bonetail for the first time ever today thanks to some of your strats! And while it's certainly not as impressive as pre-hooktail, I did manage to do it before acquiring Vivian in chapter 4, which makes me very happy I tried it!
I love your normal content don't get me wrong but this is such an amazing vibe to have for the episode. your chill vibes are fantastic as a break from the insanity runs
If you jump on Garf's lock, you can get a 6th shine sprite. It's easier than the other glitch.

Just a slight correction at 9:15 that glitch where Mario respawns on the top of the blocks is called Hazard Respawn Glitch not Fish Glitch.
Fish Glitch is actually a different glitch entirely that’s specific for Ms. Mowz which you actually showed off in the footage for that section, just wanted to point it out as it can definitely be a bit confusing, rest of the video is solid! 👍
Just found your channel and this is amazing. TTYD was one of my favorites as a kid. And seeing that obscure mechanics one was amazing to see how much was there hiding the whole time. I’d love to watch you play some other Nintendo games too. Subscribed
There is a glitch called Yoshi Skip. It allows you to get a another shine sprite watch son of a glitch thousand year door and he will tell you how to perform and how it is used in speed run

Honestly with all of the item reward floors and movers, they should stwrt calling it the pit of roughly 70-85 trials
Yeah upgrading goombella is meta post chapter 1.
Chapter 2 is where Mario is supposed to unlock the super boots doubling his own attack power by upgrading goombella at this stage you basically get the super boots a little earlier then later on double the benefit of having super boots.
I don’t have access to my GameCube currently and don’t have a computer that can emulate the game but as soon as TTYD releases on switch I’m going to be trying this and I’m so excited! Great video!!
Would you consider playing Bug Fables? Its extremely similar to TTYD and basically love letter to it. ALSO STREAM WHEN?

In terms of moneyfarming, it is possible to store items at one item store and withdraw them elsewhere, so you can buy/sell 40+ sleepy sheep if you really want to. The coin profit is still pretty small, but you can get the item purchase rewards much more reasonably.
Finally someone else mentioned this. 42 slots is greater than 10. That's 84 coins per trip and Petal Meadows is so easy it's only a minor time annoyance.

I really want the entire gameplay with Bump Attack equipped early.
wont do anything. You have to be 2 levels above or something like that otherwise you have to fight. If fighting the enemy only yields 1 star point then bump attack will work. And Bump attack doesnt work in the pit even if u are max level

I did this challenge like two weeks ago. I last played the game like 5 years ago and then I got recommended your videos. so I got motivated to do a challenge myself and I beat it in seven tries even though I only played the game casually before (never went for the super guard). And right now I challenge the lv 0 challenge (Level Zero Scavenge to be exact). Right now I die over and over again to Magnus von Grapple 2.0. I got the superguard timing for the pit enemies down. but for the rest I am a noob right now. You motivated me to challenge myself with this hell so I hope you keep up the good work.
I am so mad how many movers you got. I have been playing casually and did poster Chapter 3 pit and didn't see a single mover until the 80s.
I was proud of getting to level 90 in chapter 3 after getting Yoshi and the Hammer upgrade. You're next level mad bro, well done

I finally beat it. Granted I did grind. I also got 2 mega rush P badges. I happened to find a second mega rush in the pit. Koops was doing 12 damage to every enemy (with 0 defense). It took me many tries.

Someone already did this challenge before even getting the paper mode.
You could actually rank up koops if you jump on the lock on the far east side of rogueport, and get on top of the building where you can use paper mode to get the shine sprite behind the house (jumping in the water respawns you in front of the trouble center)
Never thought I’d see the Hooktail battle on the A-List stage… until today.
Trying this on the remake, Dry Shrooms are now useless in this challenge (Unless that 1HP is needed) because Partners now revive with 1HP after battle, making this challenge much easier.
I would love to see a series of challenges without super guarding. Since we all know now that basically anything is possible with it now it would be cool to see pure strategy over skill challenges.
Think Jrose11's regular challenges (no items in battle) compared to his rare impossible challenges, that do allow items. Bringle's "impossible challenges" can allow super guarding.

I beat this challenge once before years ago without any glitches or super guarding. It took several tires and enough luck to achieve that victory. Good times.
Great run thanks for the advice on how to best do it. If I do play through the game on the switch I don't think I would do the full pit but I may do lvl 50 early just to get the extra xp and badges.

The only time I've ever beaten ttyd was doing pit of 100 trials right after doing glitz pit
You end up so overleveled that using bump you don't actually have to fight anything for the rest of the game till you get to like, the shadow palace

You can actually get a 6th shine sprite. If you go to East rogueport, you can jump on top of the lock to the right of the trouble center. You just have to angle ot off the little step. Once you are on top of the lock, jump to the fence, go up the crates and paper mode behind the building. Once you get the shine, you can just jump in the water to get back.

Now you need to record a bunch of 'ha's and 'hoo's for this skin's jumping sounds and the rest of Mario's vocalizations!

20:30 Actually not only can you jump but if you have ground pound you can just ground pound in place where the piders drop and it'll be a first strike with the ground pound. Doesn't matter for any pre hooktail pit or prologue pit but it's interesting
