JM - mastering a 35 year catalog and honoring Jerry in the way he does is mesmerizing! What an amazing musician...
It’s incredible to see how he touches some of the nuances in the fingers and touching the notes with the voicing in a similar way to Jerry, obviously not the same. John is the best modern day guitarist hands down and his contributions to the Dead have been the best in a guitar landscape since Jerry’s death.. (IMO)! I love seeing Jimmy Herring blaze thru notes in WSP though, he fit in that band after Mikey’s death much as John has fit in the Dead after Jerry’s death. Some of the best musicians in the world here people! Not too mention some of the BEST MUSIC IN THE WORLD 🎶 🌎!!!
Thanks for breathing life into us deadheads John.
And good for John too. Win win!!
and thanks for eating over 10000 doces as well
He needed us as much as we needed him. Thanks John.
John does well with the Dead. He is the coolest uncle in the world playing in the band!!

Like him or not....the man can handle that axe and should be respected
Well said my friend ✌
he is now.. you should have read the comments maybe about 5 years before he started with dead and company. He had his fans but boy were his detractors loud. They were all what I call "blues-holes".
Who couldn't/wouldn't like him? Not only has he mastered his own guitar personality, but he's mastered countless others as well!
@@knee-long1255 idk pal.....he is talking in his own voice on these dead tracks....you can't copy emotion....sorry
@@MACHOMANRANDYSAVAGE2211 Can't say I agree with that, he's giving it his own emotion. Watch some of his vids where he's learning to play like Jerry lol. He really is brilliant.
Dude. Grateful Dead with the precision of Steve Jordan, Pino Palladino and John Mayer 😲
JOHN MAYER is a rare breed. I love his superb musical artistry, skill and him.
Gotta love Pino ... coolest cat in the house!!!
I agree, felt the same way about him on stage with The Who too!
John's PRS tone is amazing
I think the dead is gonna be a band that will continue on forever, folks will pass but new will fill the place and they will keep on keeping on.
The New work horse...
Probably the most versatile guitar play of his generation!!!
Standing on the shoulders of greatness & adding his own
My God.. they must rig him up with something very similar to Jerry's setup.. his style is unique, but there's moments it's like Jerry's ghost is playing.. that TONE.
It's the guitar. He and Paul Reed Smith basically designed it for the Dead and Company tours. If you notice, he only brings it out for Dead songs on his solo tour.
@@andersonshumate Yup, John normally would use Strat pickups. And you also can't get these sound without the right tube amps or a very good simulation of them
@@jackodonnell3463 I dunno if you’ve listened to or watched any of the last tour, but he’s been breaking out his PRS Silver Sky strat copy, and personally it sounds fire. Personally I prefer it to his usual PRS, but they’re both incredible instruments in the hands of an incredible musician.
Not many could have pulled that off. Energy on point. Heart 100 percent. Skills second to none
This makes me miss live music so much. Thanks to mayer helping to keep the dead alive!
Steve Jordan finessing as always, taking every song to the next level
Mayer's voice breathes fresh air into this song. This song is notoriously dragged in the beat, but impressively, this band keeps the beat fresh. Great job! ✌
Gotta love all that coolness going on with Steve and Pino and their sunglasses ! :D
Love John and love those guys since forever !
That was an amazing night!
This is the best version because it leads to something
Fire 🔥🔥
Love this guy! Coming straight from the Bolt! I concur, breathing fresh air!
Anyone who has had as many golden performances, such as this one, should never catch all that hate!? I mean,I have as much reason to be jealous of this guy as anyone, but fuck, what's to hate?
We have this thing in Australia called "Tall Poppy Syndrome". What it is is when someone stands out from the crowd for being better at something than the rest of us (i.e. they are a tall poppy in a field of normal size ones), we cut them back down to size just because. That's all that really happens to JM. Some people just can't stand to see others succeed where they do not.
We have a problem in USA called "my life didn't turn out the way I wanted it to, so I blame other people."
I feel like people just miss jerry and don’t want to accept someone else in the position. But I don’t see it that way it’s something new and special and keeps the music playing live and keeps people getting together as they’d want!
It's like he was hoping someone would send this to Bobby and Oteil.. like, hey guys, maybeeeee.. 😂 love this version of my favorite song so much.. ⚡️🐻🌹💀
1:21 Steve Jordan OG the way everything transitioning so smooth
That groove at 1:25 is unmatched
Thanks so much for sharing Fire and all the info! Keep it up!
I love John Mayer so much !!!
I was there and this was my favorite part. So glad you got such a good quality video.
this is gold
Without doubt some Amazing axe craftsmanship, but not to miss some great Footwork too 🕺🕺at the beginning.
Love the first 2 minutes of this version
Sweater is dope, I need it. John is a legend.
that bass playing from Pino!
I never liked mayer until he gave mad respect to the band of bands the one and only grateful dead rip jerry
Not the smoothest transition from Queen to Fire, but I like how John powers through and the band falls into place behind him.
He really pwns this song...I mean his mastery over this piece of music is starkly evident.
Lovin it o yes o yes
Is that Pino on bass??? This is just soothing to the soul.
ever wanted to hear the Trio play Fire on the Mountain ? :]
O yea what can you say but awesomeness
The unofficial theme song for The Hobbit
3:45.... Jerry.
Long distance runner, what you standin' there for?
Get up, get out, get out of the door
Your playin' cold music on the barroom floor
Drowned in your laughter and dead to the core.
There's a dragon with matches that's loose on the town
Takes a whole pail of water just to cool him down.
Fire! fire on the mountain!
Almost ablaze still you don't feel the heat
It takes all you got just to stay on the beat.
You say it's a livin', we all gotta eat
But you're here alone, there's no one to compete.
If mercy's a business, i wish it for you
More than just ashes when your dreams come true.
Fire! fire on the mountain!
Long distance runner, what you holdin' out for?
Caught in slow motion in a dash for the door.
The flame from your stage has now spread to the floor
You gave all you had. why you want to give more?
The more that you give, the more it will take
To the thin line beyond which you really can't fake.
Fire! fire on the mountain!
Excellent.....love seeing his band. I am sure he assembled some outstanding musicians. That said....his guitar solo wasn't as effective as the ones he lays out in D andC, but he stretches out for the outro solo.
i want that sweater
Its like well over $100 from some Japanese company. Not sure what the story behind them is and why it's so expensive.
@@brendanfowler4131 what does it say ? Can't quite make it out ?
I want his playing...
if you know then you know
3:43 🤯🤯🤯
What's your favourite wine sir? I'll have your finest glass of PINO!!!
nice
QTron thumbs up
Also something you don't see is focus on the screen of the guitar cuz you we dead heads know what it should be looking like
Anyone know if there’s a recording of the entire concert??
What shirt is JM wearing? The sound is pretty tight!
fromTuneageCasserole on reddit:
It's a WTAPS (Japanese designer brand, designer Tetsu Nishiyama) shirt, with Dead logo custom screenprinted for John. The customizing was done by a designer/screenprinter named Josh Balick who has created a variety of cool Dead themed designs.
Does anyone know the name of the effects pedal John is using? That is such a killer tone!
Qtron+!
And unless you have humbucker pickups, I’d recommend a bit of overdrive in front of it in the chain!
PINO HAS SO MUCH SWAGGER
AlI the 15 year old girls in the audience were all like “tf is this song”
I don't think it's 2003 anymore. I think those 15 year olds grew up.
Obiwannabe those 15 year olds prob have kids by now lmao
That’s the song for the dads that had to bring their 15 year old daughters 😂
I heard that song at CHI show when I was 15… I’m 50 and sharing it everyday with my 10 year old. The music lives on and Thank you!
What settings does he use on the Q-Tron Plus? I can't seem to dial mine in

Scarlet begonias and fire on the mountain
He is baked af
still so weird to hear and see it..he came through when I worked for lesh one weekend. ALL the women were so into it roflolmfao. Th next night, all the women were in dresses, and the floor would never be dry again. Good times.
lmaoooo
Is he looking at a teleprompter for lyrics?
yes most likely
notice how much better it sounds than dead and co, which pains me to say cause i luv the dead................
The way the song should be played. No sleepy bobby dragging tempo down. Nice work!
I’m praying you don’t mean Bobby as in Bob weir, cos if you do then there’s something wrong with you
@@harrisonkelly9964 LOL. Of course I do. Saw GD over 100 times...never had such a good time, in my life before...seen D&C about a dozen. Highs and lows but Mr Weir turns every song into a balad. I guess he is just old so what can one do. Just wish they could play Jack Straw without zzzzzzzz. 😊👍⚘✌🎸❤
@@gregorythomas2674 I can sort of understand that I guess, if you had a choice who would you have replace him?
@@harrisonkelly9964 There is only one Jerry. One Bobby. Etc. There is no going back. Mayer does a fantastic job at providing a Jerryish sound with some own style. I just don't get why Bobby wants to turn all tunes into a slow ballad. I can only assume his age and rough years have slowed him down. For better or worse, no replacing him. I have seen over 100 GD shows in the day and once Bobby goes i get off the bus. Until then enjoying what is there. (But as an example Phish is in another stratosphere of performance, they can still bring it...and i don't really love them but appreciate level they play at). When Dead and Co do it right they are great. Hitting citi and Hershey and hoping for the best....always fun to see the family! 😊✌
i did not have a car or anyone to go with
wanted to go there so bad ,
10000 doces later...
These guys are great. Like to see a fine talented girl performing with them, too. Just my personal thought. Get a real beauty up there with them on stage with long hair and a big talent.
John just sings every dead song better than than jerry/bob
Wouldn’t say better than Jerry
nah man jerry was the dead
John Mayer is a spec in music history compared to Jerry. Don’t be silly.
Just enjoy the music. You ppl sound like a bunch of politicians.
tony tribble best comment here
Guitar is killer but I don’t care for his cheesy vocal approach.
Not every song is a blues song..fjm
Always liked John but he can't hold a candle to Jerry Garcia!. Dead and Company need to stop riding on Jerry's coat tails. Jerry's songs, his music cannot be replicated. Jerry Garcia was a musical genius with talent beyond. John Mayer needs to go back to doing his own thing .
Is there nothing he will not taint?!? Yuck!
L opinion don’t comment
you gatekeepers are the exact same type of people who at the same time complains on why the younger kids nowadays don't listen to old classics like this.
