This is superb stuff. These guys were always my fab five. Great to see this classic line up of the legendary Dubliners at their very best. Thanks for sharing this.
I hear backing instruments that I’m not seeing. I hear a piano, where is it? And then hear someone aggressively strumming out a G chord on an acoustic guitar but it never matches either of the guitar players movements. It’s a really full sound that I’m not expecting to hear based on what I’m seeing. My guess is they had a backing track on this.
It's the sort of thing that happens when you are playing live. If you have a good and confident band playing with you then they will cover for the mistake, in this case with a bit of the chorus. So, no, it's not because he was drunk (a bit of an insulting caricature that one), or because of a brain tumour (nearly a decade too early for that). Forgetting the next line of a song is pretty normal, the recovery is one of the things that makes a good singer/band.
Ironic, when you think of the problematic relationship a number of The Dubliners had with the distilled juice of the barley. Which may account for some of the sidelong glances during the song. But Luke, as always, gives it his all, and that was a lot.
That part when Luke comes in a bit early then looks at Ronnie with a smile 😁
A friend of mine one day say when i have days down i put this song AND i woke UP again i dont know why but iTs true...happy days to all🍀
Luke's voice wakes me up to a good mood. Thank you Lord for good ole Luke!
god created the world...then music..then he needed a singer....there was Luke Kelly.

Lol yeah it’s become part of the song for me. He had brain cancer at the time. God bless Luke Kelly.
@@randallrogers8183 The description says 1971, in which case this was 9 years before he was diagnosed.
Just sooooo brilliant!

Jesus loves luke
The song is a bit of sarcasm aimed at Ian Paisley, not a profession of faith.
@@andrewwigglesworth3030 i did not know that. Thank you. But uh...regardless, jesus loves Luke.
@@andrewwigglesworth3030 awfully lot of passion in his singing of this ..just for sarcasm? I think not
@@matthewbrowning7884 Luke Kelly was a Communist (as in party member) and an atheist. I can't help what you think.
Amen , brother 🙏
Just think of the party they're having right now 😃

Is there anything wrong with believing there is something behind the scenes and just not pretending to know what it is?
