Great job, Caleb! Somehow you still manage to make your videos look better and better each time. 👌💜
I know right? It’s insane. It’s amazing how every time he creates a new background you think it can’t get much better than this then he reinvents it just months later.
Agree 100 %, he’s like a wine, getting better each year..
yess he does very good , you give us so much tech detail and nerdery hidden tips !
we don't see the background alot , me definetly
i`m the 0.75 x guy ...lol
it’s mirrors man!!!!
Die he geht different light Output Values than Gerald??
i love how much information you pack into the videos in an engaging fashion - SO GOOD
How many subscribers did you have when you commented on this video ? ☺
I'm back, and I bought the 100d about 3 months ago and I couldn't be happier. I've used it for outdoor night time shoots with and without a softbox and it is just such a BEAST. Really got the cinematic look. Shining through house windows from outside and it really looked like a nice sunny morning inside. Also, used it indoors as well in a giant lobby of a historic library with stone walls and massive stairways. This light was the key light and did amazing. I could not be happier with this light. You cannot even hear it while working on set. No need to spend $1,000.
how are you powering the 100D outdoors?
@@SixSpeedSeven - Very long extension cords. ;) However, I believe I am going to be getting an Anker 200 watt power station. It's about $250 at regular price, and that is the price of 1 cheaper V-mount battery, and you would need 2, plus the inverter to power it the usual way. But with the power station, you can just plug the regular cord into it and be good for hours, depending on how bright you need the light to be on. If you have the money, you can get a power station with a higher rating that would last even longer.
@@1001Hobbies thank you for sharing the info on the external power. I was trying to figure out how to power those when on the location - and the Anker might be the answer
@@GroovyTakeON - You're welcome. I was happy to come across it myself. There is a number of review videos for it on here as well as one by a filmmaker who uses it for the same light fixture.
@@1001Hobbies would you recommend 100d or 100x (bi-color)
Crushed it Caleb! 🔥 Aputure with the new new!
This is by far the best review I've seen on any product. That sound test mid way in the video really drive the point across and makes my choice much easier to make.
Always impressed how good each and every shot of yours looks. MAN. Your lighting is so powerful.
Nicely done, Caleb! Always appreciate your insights. Funny you mentioned the noise from the 200d. I ended up using the 200d with the spotlight mount for my video. 😀
Love to see the positive vibes / comments from two of my favorite gear reviewer/creators. Keep up the great work. Thanks a bunch for your work and this review.
@@CosmosSafari Yep. These three are my regular go-to for quality information. Learnt a lot from them.
Curtis, did you have the same noise problem as Caleb?
did you noticed any big noise compared to Caleb ?
@@pedropuas7199 Yes, covered this in my review.
FYI - just picked up the 200d. Definitely no noise issues anymore. Completely quiet from inches away at max power
My thoughts are that they have changed out the fan to a revised version.
Is your 200d still good with the fan noise?
@@ElyJrTheatre Yeah, no problems. I have 3 of them and none have the issue. I think the original fan noise issue was a defect from their first production run.
@@andrewgarcia940 ok, I think I’m going to pull the trigger and buy one.
Thank you for the update on this
So excited for this! Been waiting forever for the reviews to come in.
Ton of thanks Caleb, i rarely subscribe a channel but your content really helped and saved money and i couldn't resist myself to subscribe. The way you compare and describe is really cool and awesome. And the reality is that i purchased aputure 100D at last and saved almost 50% of the money for video light.
That 100D is a winner! €300 here in Europe, so around $370, the 200D is €400, so around $490. If it was $200 for the 100D here that would have been 👌🏻 Thanks for the comparisons Caleb! All the best in 2021 🔥
This is such a helpful video for someone in April 2021 just starting to do research on which lights to buy to start shooting with for his youtube videos. Thank you.
It’s interesting: other reviewers have mentioned the 200D is “louder” but you’re the only person who’s really emphasized how jarring the sound this. Thanks for that! 🙏🏾 Will be looking into the 100 series.
Wow. I was researching for a studio light and considering SL60W, 120d, and Amaran 100D. With this perfect review, my search is over. Thanks so much 🙏🏽
Thanks for this! What kind of softboxes would you use for these if you used them as key and fills?
As big as possible for the key (< 3’) and smaller for the fill.
Damn, this is so helpful in picking apart make-or-break issues that would never be seen in the usual written description. Thanks a bundle!!
Love the video! Now i'm just waiting for Caleb to drop a "How I fixed the fan in the 200D to make the best budget light" video
thanks so much! this was super helpful - i just bought a 300x 1-2 months ago and was shocked that these budget options came out - thankfully you reminded me about the fan noise and now i'm happy that i got the higher-end options :)
You are my photo gear hero. Your in-depth knowledge and description of photo gear is second to none.
Thank you for this video! Saw these announced and this was just the info I needed. You're the man
Whew! Glad I caught this video. I've been researching a key light for awhile now while getting equipment for my channel. Looks like the 100d and a softbox will be my solution. Thanks for the review.
Just what I needed, thank you!
Man your videos are always so clean, to the point and informative. Thanks so much 🙏🏻. Ben.
Caleb, I was pretty close to getting a 200d, so I'm very glad to know about the whine/noise situation ahead of time.
If I was JUST using it for stop-motion animation, it would be ideal. But since I want a light to use also with regular live-action episodes, the 100D feels like the way go to.
Thank you for this!
Just so you know, Aputure has fixed this. I just got the 200x and it seems to have a different fan that sounds about the same as to the 300D. A bit louder, but absolutely no whining.
That is SO helpful! Thank you for a very clear and understandable comparison. You are a gem. Thank you for existing.
Thanks for this and great video as always! I can't wait for my Amaran 100X pre-order! It'll be my main light going forward.
Thanks so much Caleb, always a joy watching your videos. These lights are amazing!
I was doing so good on my budget and then you had to go and upload again... Thanks! (sarcastically and seriously)
Thanks for this video! I've been eyeing the 120d for a year or so, but just could pull the trigger because of the price. The 100d sounds like exactly what I need.
Just what I needed to hear. I have been need a light. As always keep up the awesome content.
Great review! The 100d looks awesome!
Really appreciate the time you took to do this review 👍
Thanks for this tip Caleb my lights 100d arrived today. Super!
I'm a novice on the verge of purchasing the Amaran 100D, it'll be my first professional light and your video was very helpful in making my decision, thanks!
Really nice video !! It's my dream light, perfect for my budget :) !!!
Thanks, Caleb! This is driving my first "big" light purchase and I have my first job for a client coming soon!
I am so happy you mentioned the noise of the 200D, thanks so much!
Yes! Was patiently waiting for this :)
Great to see a review of budget gear that's in my price range. Thank you.
The 100D is on my list for end of year gifts to myself! Thanks.
Just what I've been waiting for! Great video as always man. Would've loved to see how the 100D matched up to your 120D in your studio setup e.g. talking head portions etc. But either way, thank you so much for this
Great video i enjoy learning about these things
Great video as usual 🙏🏻 I just bought a Godox VL150, I love it, £350 tho so a little more expensive but I can use a V-mount and the build quality is great.
How have I just come across your videos, they are bloody amazing
Great review dude. Can't wait to see an update when you get your hands on the X versions. Bummer on the fan noise on the 200 :/ was almost sold.
Sweet! Just what I needed... now buy :) Thanks caleb!
Thanks ! Will be picking these up!
Great work Caleb... as always ! 😉
Thanks a lot and 🍾 🥂 happy New Year !
ORDERED! I think they are going to sell a pile of these. 😀 Good work! Thanks for making this video.
Really useful, thank you!
Great Review as always. I was about to regret buying my Godox VL150 but your review convinced me to be happy with what I have. However I may wind up selling my old SL60W and snagging one of those 100Ds
Super helpful! Thanks for making this video!
the 100d is really quite something and great summary of what i wanted to understand. thanks a lot.
I rate the Aputure budget lights so much I advise it to my students whenever they ask! Great video I'll be refering to when making my point haha, thanks!
Your channel helped me so much brotha. Thanks. Keep up the amazing work..
I think im returning my recently purchased VL150 for the 100D. What a value! Stoked to have the sidus link app work with my MC's and 100d.
Wow that's amazing, great video.
Thanks for sharing that info with us.
All the best for 2021.
Cheers
My Aputure 300D ii just arrived today and I love it! Apart from the light quality it also looks professionally for my clients as well! Great review tho! 👌🏽
These new light looks like a good affordable choice especially the 100D, thanks for the great review Caleb !
Incredibly solid review. Just sold me on the 100d and saved me from the 200d. Much thanks man.
Great review, looking forward to getting my hands on a few!
Awesome info and I really appreciate the honest hot take!
Looks like I'll be going with the 100D. Great and thorough review.
Impressive review ! (both impressed by the new products, and the video quality)
Very helpful video. Lots of good info! Thanks Caleb 👌
Finally a clear and concise review!!!
Thanks for the video Caleb! Thanks for the informations.
Great review Thank you! That beeing said, the godox still retails for half of the price of a 100d in my country with the godox coming in a transport case. The difference in price keeps me from switching for now.
Really like that pop of lighting on that lamp behind you. Cool look!
very useful. Thank Caleb. You are making everyone life easier.
Incredible insight! Thanks for your wisdom :)
Thank you, great review, to the point, informative, easy to follow. I learnt a lot and will make surely better decision if/when buying from Aputure.
Man! I love the quality of your reviews-- sound and visuals. I'm really excited about the 100D and will really consider a purchase. I'm curious about how far away the 200D would need to be to make it usable.
Thanks for posting! I was looking for a more powerful light for studio b-roll and the 200D looks like it will be my best bet!
Thank you! Super helpful, to the point and clear.
Hi Caleb. Great & honest review. Really useful Information (as always). I pretty much rely on your recommendations because they are orientated on practical use. So thanks for this Video. Thumbs up, Man.
Great review, I found answers to all my questions right away!
Edit: just bought the 100d through B&H! Happy to get you some affiliate money Caleb
Very interesting video! I have the 200X on order - am hoping that the sound isn’t too bad when it arrives - otherwise might need to rethink my strategy.
Great video as ever!
Let us know when it comes in! I’m debating the 100x vs 200x based on the fan noise
@@JoeEckert will do - feel free to subscribe to my channel as I’ll definitely be covering it in a video
Good video Caleb. I'll be buying a few 100D lights based on your recommendation.
Great Job, I would love to see a test done comparing the fresel lens attachment on the 200d vs the apature 300d and see how much worse it is 200d with the fresel attachment. I think alot of other people would like to see that as well.
Another great video! Thank you 😀
Great review! Thank you!
Any tips on getting the 95D model?
get more work and make more money 👍 (jk)
Fantastic info, thank you!
Great review. Thank you!
is amazing how much Aputure has progress and refine their lights in the past 7 years.
Great content as always!
Thanks mate. Another sound review.
Glad to see the budget COB race getting some competition. I fully expect to see 'responses' to this light that keep pushing the 'bang-for-buck' envelope. I was able to mod my first COB LED (Alzo 200) with a quieter fan, but that was with an easy-to-disassemble all-metal unit. I'd guess that isn't the option here.
I ordered a 200D based on this video and subsequent research. Will be a big waiting game, though. Not likely to ship until mid-to-late August. Will report back on the fan noise if it is a problem. Thanks for the info!
2nd one I've seen: you're so calm and well spoken! Combined with a reasoned presentation, worth the view. Since I've just stumbled in, now wondering if you're primarily motion (most likely) or still (where I've come from)... Hae a guddun!
Also, as a former computer builder, I wonder if...there's not a quieter $10 fan in a standard size you could swap out in 10 minutes? Panasonic made some quiet ones. Have to match dimensions, power requirements and plug (or wire count at least - some use a feedback wire for better speed control.) Worth checking, if the maker won't respond to requests. Quiet/sound control is very important, most of the time.
Two additional factors you didn't compare, one is heat output over time. Could be inferred from actual watts consumed. The other is longevity. You couldn't test for that without a lab, but I wonder-at least, is it rated for some given lifetime?
I literally just bought the Godox light 3 hours ago and you come out with this?! Ahh!
OOF
Godox is still amazing
Nice job. Might add one to my setup. Thx
Great little lights, one of my first led lights was from the Amaran serie. The 100D is 200bucks over here, but i can get a set with 2x the godox sl60w for 180bucks. tough choice! Maybe open up the 200D and take a look at the fan specs and replace it with some comparable silent noctua? Can you see the light temp(heat not color) in the app? The godox shows it at the rear screen.
I was just talking to their factory about these lights yesterday and seeing about getting some review units. Then today I see this haha
definitely getting my hands on these lights!
Great review Caleb! Definitely helped me swing towards perhaps getting a 100D (I'll skip on the noise of the 200D though! No thanks)
Great video, cool stuff, great light. Super review.
Hot damn! I’m ready for these lights man!
Great review, and love the Godox comparison.
Such a stellar video!! You rock
