Flash-sideways was absolutely brilliant plot line. With all these lines here and there, meaningful discussions... Too bad so many people did not understand that. This was the way to come full circle and to end characters' journeys on a high note. Characters were always the most important thing about the show, all the mystery and sci-fi/fantasy was secondary. Besides, purgatory reality is also a metaphysical/spiritual concept which fits perfectly with the style and themes of the show and it was a unique plot devise. Whoever did not understand that with their shallow brains can go eff themselves and watch something one-dimensional and primitive, byyyyyyyye)))
One of the reasons it was poorly received was because the writers were repeatedly telling the audience that it wasn't purgatory - not just leading up to the final season airing, but even while the episodes were going out, they would insist that people were misunderstanding these scenes and that they "didn't get it". One of the reasons LOST did not keep its place in the pantheon of TV classics is because of the way the creatives absolutely fumbled the relationship with their audience - and it's hard to feel terribly bad about this, because "don't lie to the public" seems like a pretty easy thing not to get wrong, but they managed to get it completely wrong anyways.
Why people won't understand that the heart of the show is to let go? Jack and Locke never wanted to let go their fathers (for different reasons) and the storytellers maintain that during six whole seasons... Mysteries of the island are just a track, a path to understand that....
YES! But letting go not only of their fathers but of everything, their past, their failures, missed opportunities, desire to fix everything or be special in Locke's case, everything. But you're absolutely right!
Because many people thought it was about people that crashed on a mysterious an island that had all the element of the Fantastic genre (' characterized by the ambiguous presentation of seemingly supernatural forces" - Wiki). @@TheAngous Well then it wasn't explicit enough ; if a show/film/whatever loses is poorly understood, it has to take responsibility for it and not blame the audience imo

Man, that's some insanely good acting right there. So many nuanced moments, and it's amazing to watch them both generate enough emotion to get themselves choked up - perfectly timed, of course - for this scene.
No it doesn't seem that he was. We don't know much about John Locke's but considering that he had a great relationship with John and was clearly involved in John life it's highly unlikely that he went the route of being a con man. Most everybody's lives in the flash sideways are fairly opposite. Or at least their flash sideways lives have allowed them the chance to make peace with let go of the thing that most held them back in their real lives.
No Cooper was not a con man and did not even intend to steal his kidney. One of Locke's main traumas was his asshole father and lack of relationships with him so in the purgatory he created the opposite situation.
You almost cried? wtf.. Did no one else find this Hilarious. I was laughing for 5 mins when i first seen it. About how he looked his father in the eye and told him that he could trust him and he barely even left the ground! hahhaha

great performance by Terry O Quinn
Finished watching this scene not long ago and I’m in tears... “it’s never been easy”
Christ, that's heart-breaking. Unbelievably good acting.

@realNTERNETFRIEND Didnt make it into the TV Pantheon? I don't see other shows getting a Documentary 20 years later.
it's like Matthew Fox went from a solid actor to an amazing one in the blink of an eye before seasons 5 and 6
I could never act with Terry O'Quinn. I would forget my lines, just watching a master craftsman perform so perfectly.
nine years later, and I still cry. every. time.

Best scene ever. I almost cryed
So was his dad still a con-man in the flash sideways? and he just accidentally ruined Anthony's life before his kidney was able to be stolen?
Good question
