I'm still using this CPU up to this date. Shifting from an HDD to an SSD made a world of difference. 2020, I upgraded it with a used rx580 and another 8gb ram and have been playing with it since then. Valorant + discord + couple of chrome tabs and a gaming recorder runs not smoothly but with adequate results.
The upgrade from a HDD to an SSD is one of the biggest upgrades you can do. It makes everything so much snappier!
Yeah,im running bf1 in an old hdd and is not smooth,i5+960 4gb should be enogh
I first got my PC somewhere in late 2018 when my dad was working on it and asked if I could offer that PC for like 5k pesos (around $90s). It had an i5-4460 processor, which sparked my interest, as I was using a PC with a Core 2 Duo at the time being. Me and my dad had some negotiations, got my PC and I was kind of disappointed that I'm not getting a performance difference when playing Roblox (almost the same performance as the Core 2 duo at Graphics 1).
When I got my PC back in late 2019, in hopes of getting repaired after being bricked for almost the entirety of that year, I finally can get to play games on my PC, only difference is that I don't have a video card installed on that thing. But then I start to notice a difference in performance: My average performance from playing Phantom Forces went from ~20-30 fps average on graphics 1 to almost ~40-55 fps on graphics 5. Then in mid-2020s, I had a need for a powerful graphics card, so me and my dad picked up a GTX 660 for around 2k PHP ($36), and it boosted my PC's performance, running around a ~50 fps on average at max graphics while playing Arsenal.
Nowadays, I still use my PC with an i5-4460, GTX660 and 16GB of RAM. Runs well on GTA V at Normal Settings, The Crew 2 at default settings, Genshin impact on normal settings, and can definitely run most Roblox games at more than 60fps on Graphics 10. However, while BeamNG is playable on this PC at low settings in some cases, this is where all the lag spikes start to get apparent. Overall I'm quite content with what I have currently.
Looking forward into upgrading my PC to Ryzen 5 3400G and GTX 1660 Super, as well as playing other games than Roblox though.
TL;DR: I've had this PC for more than 5 years and it still runs like a champ. Upgrades included.
Being happy with your PC is what matters! Glad to hear that you’re having fun gaming on it🙌
I have Exactly The Same PC At Home I5 4460 With a GTX 660 😅
Now i have An Ryzen 9 and RTX 4060ti 16gb
Forget the 3400g, try to get a 3600 instead
@@quanominh238 That's my other choice for a GPU actually
your old set up is my current set up i5-4460 and gtx 660 16gb of ram, im planning on upgrading soon
Oh, the good old Intel "nobody needs more than 4 cores" days.
I believe they had 4 thread desktop i5s from at least second gen to 7th gen😂
Let me tell you of my i5 3550. 😂
Then again, I'm the kind of person who also owns a P3, and really wants to see those Cinebench and CPU-Z scores expressed as points per £.
Great video bro keep up the good work
Thank you bro!
I5 4460 is a trooper
Had a build from 2015 with
I5 4460
R9 390 msi 8gb
16gb ddr3 2600mh
750 psu
Ran it from 2015 to 2024 when the psu failed and took out everything
, if thr psu didnt die, i would still be using it
Could run elden ring at 60fps medium
This content is really helpful, thank you. I have a prebuild i5 4440 and gtx 645. What would you suggest as upgrades?
Since it has 8 threads, would an i7 4770 make sence in your opinion? Paired with a 1070 perhaps? Can you give some advise? I dont know much about the older hardware/ older sockets.
As I was overdue for an upgrade last winter I got into PCs and built myself 13600k/3060ti/64ram rig, yeah I was reborn.
I just want to give the old pc another 3-5 years of life, since it has served me well + only modern game I care to play is ghostrunner, the old rig will be for older games.
The i7 4770 is a great upgared option which still performs quite well in 2024. I made a video on the i7 4770 recently too. If you want to see how well it gets on, that video is perfect for you!
Hey, i have same CPU, all you need is Gtx 1060 3gb if you can get it very cheap, it can play all modern games on low. I upgraded from r9 380x and it was suprisingly a lot better, also 12 - 16gb ram is a must have.
If you really want to invest and buy i7 4770 also good options are Gtx 1660 Super or Ti, you can even consider 1080/Ti or Rtx 2060 / 3050 if you want to spend extra.
@@hrvojemilicevic3309nah bro, u a menace for recommending the 3gb awful version, 3gb is wayyyyyyy too small even for low/1080p in all aaa games
20 watts at fully load is amazing. This would be a good cpu to put into a pfsense machine to make a very fast router
Yes, I built my PC in 2015 with i5 4460 and used it till now, I initially thought the CPU had some problems when I saw the TDP are only around 20-25 watts, but it is true, I will upgrade it to i7 4790 and give to my little brother, I will build a new system this year for myself
12100f when you turn off turbo boost pulls only 30w and is obviously like 5x stronger than this cpu
Cyberpunk just hates VEGA 😅 Great video mate and nice to see the 4460 giving it it's best 💪
I need to do some research into older GPUs and their driver and game optimisations.
For £4, it's not actually that bad lol, I was expecting way worse.
Vega is a factually inferior architecture like bulldozer
@@najeebshah. Not necessarily, Vega is actually pretty strong
@@najeebshah. vega was faster than a 5700xt and 6600xt
@@ProYamYamPC and yet it failed
I have the i5 4460 with an RX480 4gb on an older system and I was planing to upgrade it to a Xeon E3 1270 V3 for 30€. It should perform like the i7 4770 (I can't find those for less than 60€) and it should give me enough head room to upgrade the graphics card for something like an RX 5600 xt in the future.
I do recommend the 8 thread Xeons from this era, they still perform quite well. I’m working on a test with the E3 1241 V3 and it performs well.
I just picked up a "broken" i5 4460 16GB GTX 1060 3gb pc for $10 on my local offerup. It didn't initially boot because the CPU & DRAM Debug LEDs would both flash. I took it apart, cleaned it and reseated the cpu and ram. It booted up fine after that with no issues. My question is do you recommend spending the $30-40 to buy a i7 4770/4790? I saw a few for sale in my local offerup. Thanks for the great video man.
Firstly, nice find! It depends on the games that you play. If the i5 4460 is severely bottlenecking your GPU, I would say it's worth upgrading to an i7 or Xeon which has 8 threads. I made a video on the Xeon E3-1241 V3 (basically a 4770 with no iGPU) not long after I uploaded that video. That might be worth a watch for you.
$10 for an entire CPU? Damn thats a great lucky find!
Just the case alone should be worth $20 😂
@@KingdomRepublicGtx 1060 3gb is 50 - 60 dollars
I still have one and it's fine.
Good vid, however rookie mistake (probably a wider one as lot of pple call it). the speed for ram chips is NOT 1600 MHz, the clock rate of the chips is 200 Mhz, the bus is 800 MHz, giving you a 1600 MT transfer speed. Probably another things to note, the 1% and averages were quite good.. you are getting a 60fps or near that experience.. on the stock 60MHz monitor that is all you would want. The CPU that i like to use from that gen is 47770 (non k).. they are cheap and have not been overclocked. Alternative is i5-6500, i5-7500, i5-7600..or stepping into newer gens like i3-8100 or i3-9100f
What this CPU only $5? Crazy that even core2quad q6600 from 2007 costs the same as this CPU and this 4460 beats that by a massive amount..
Great test
ok so this CPU is ok for 2024 if u are playing games like cs2 or dota or other low ennd esport games or even AAA titles. this cpu only struggles in bf2042 so far ive seen or other battlefield games with more players or Rust with 500 players or more
thanks for info
This CPU is great with gtx 1060 or rx 570/580
i game on i3 6006u processor with intel hd 520 graphic . i liteery played over 50 AAA game on that shitty pc
Actually when I play game
I lower the resolution to 1280×720
The I minimizer every setting
I upgrade my laptop with ssd and 12gb ram. And how I servive I donot know😅
I thought i could pair my i5-4460 with an msi 1660 super
So much conflicting information line.
Bottleneck calculator online says it's a 44.1% bottleneck.
WHAT DO I DOOOOO!.

Tech understanding: Your grandparents.
If you don’t want to upgrade sockets. Get an i7 4770. I highly recommend upgrading platforms, perhaps to AM4 with something like the Ryzen 5 3600.
@@ProYamYamPC hmm.. any particular reason for the 4770?, i see the extra threads but i try to get as much performance out of the card as possible.
I'm a very anti-upgrade individual.
The most hardcore i go is LittleNightmares and Sims 3.
I upgraded the card for ReadyOrNot and Rust, but Rust became the wealthy zoomer kiddy game with endless need for hardware upgrade with the stuff they tack on each month.
@@coffeepot3123 the extra threads, 8MB of L3 cache, and extra clock speeds help out
@@ProYamYamPC Ty for the advice. 👍
if u doing review for gaming, the R23 is pointless, same as the 5 games average. this old i5 is capable for new gaming as long as u pair with mid gpu with medium or high graphic details. its pointless to compare those cs with low graphic details which makes this cpu look bad when u average all the games together, u dont need 400 fps for a fps games. this cpu definitely still capable for modern gaming. just not for those dumb game like cyberpunk. one more thing, reviewing this i5 in 2023 also pointless, anyone looking for new build better go for ryzen rather than buy old motherboard for this which cost u as well.
Are you aware of how most people play CS2? They lower the settings for the highest possible framerate. Cyberpunk is a relevant game as it's received a major recent update. This CPU is NOT capable for modern gaming, as you said people are better off with Ryzen after all.
P.S. I tested it because I had it lying around, and because I can :)
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
decent fight? 8 yrs older and its less than 50% slower in games, not to mention it cost only 5 bucks, i would say 4460 put up a hell of a fight.
You are not wrong at all. For the price as well, you can’t complain. You could probably get one for free as they’re in a lot of old office machines from businesses looking to get rid of old equipment.
