Definitely not me, a history masters student, watching the video of a history phd struggling just like I am with the weekend assignment deadline stress.
I just wanna say, you should be very proud of yourself of what you've been able to accomplish and are still going to. You are deffentilty gonna go far in life, look at where you started. I Hope you achieve the most successful in life. Great job! And still, keep going!
Step Six: Hitting a wall and having no ideas... As someone who just turned in my dissertation prospectus (Africana Studies), I can say I felt that wall several times but I kept pushing. Right now I'm working on editorial feedback for a paper I'm publishing next year and just knowing that it's OK not to have it right at the first time is helping me push gradually to the deadline for submission. Thank you K! 😊
Hey I’m a new subscriber!! I’m starting my content creation journey, but I plan to apply to phd programs next year. Do you mind making a video on how to successfully run a UA-cam/business, while being a full-time PhD student? If you have already, do you mind telling me the title? I’m trying to decide on which path to take. I really want to do both. Seeing you is inspiring. Thanks in advance!! 💕
I love your videos! I was wondering if you could make a video about post doc job prospects in the humanities? Most of the videos online right now are specific to stem
I'm glad to see yale students feel like this too, working on my MA Literature final papers and have said "my brain has stopped working" about 76 times this week alone lol
I had time to do everything I wanted, including playing drums... I just didn't organize well the day... Really struggling with this but I want to, no, I have to keep playing and pursuing my PhD! I'm studying to become a drum teacher and I'll be teaching during my PhD too! And I also had a date tonight which I cancelled! Life is awesome but my time management is sloppy so I commit to manage my time effectively!!!!!!
Love your content...relatable & inspiring! Also Yale's campus/surrounding town is just so damn beautiful...makes me wanna study there, lol! Good luck to y'all.
I can completely relate to this video. I'm a master's student and during the time when I needed to work on my midterm paper, I had covid and simply could not function at my best, let alone best mentally to write a coherent sentence.
I remember going through these stages and telling myself: oh, finish your phd, it will be way better once you have a proper position and you can do only what you like. RUN YOU FOOLS. Now I have to do research and teaching and talk with other people! I wanna go back to my phd student days when my only problem was reading about my fave topic and writing.
Another great video! Well done. Also kinda relatable because I’m currently wrapping up my M.A History program before the end of the year. Final exams + thesis deadline all in December. 😅
Oof. The title scared me for a bit when I first saw it. I know this has been said a lot, but please take the time to let your brain rest (advice from someone who hasn't done that well in the past lols). Wishing you all the luck during this process!!!!
And here I am, watching this video instead of writing a paper on the Celts in Ireland, which was due two weeks ago. (thank goodness for Steiner leniency)
This was me in November, but instead of bagels it was rushing outside to see this huge owl. Next thing I know it was 2 hours later and well what do you know...lunch time!
Additional advice for writer's block: after having gone through the literature for a bit/the stuff you have written so far, take a shower. For some reason, the best ideas always are born there:p then run to your computer and write down what popped up in your head, then go from there.
I am still a full time student :) I’ll advance to candidacy in the upcoming months and next year will be solely focused on archival research and the businesses

Lol yes, well after sitting and staring at the same lit review section for five hours, my brain needed a reprieve (I was also unknowingly on the way to being very ill)
Hi! This is Sajid from Pakistan. I have applied for Ph.D in Physics program to Yale, I wanna know more about student life at campus and many stuffs, how may I communicate with you, kindly let me know, thanks.
@@KaelynGraceApple You are funny. To be honest, Idk if you are qual or quant, but I take it you are qual. I just hope your committee doesn't give you a hard time if you use "too many" books for your literature review. To be an expert on your topic, it is best to find gaps in the literature of peer-reviewed articles. There, you will also be able to provide a more acquainted understanding of the literature. Books do not necessarily have a good grasp of that. So, if there are any PhD students out there, don't spend too much time on books, but rather spend more time on databases. 😉

Are you doing any archival research in Virginia (thinking of Anthony Johnson) or another former British colony?
Yes!!!
Hello ,I am new to your channel ! What have you studied and what Phd are you doing? ❤🎉😊 greetings from a Greek in Germany 😊
I heard the apartments you live in flood easy according to the reviews, but I still wanted to live in that building. You think it's worth it?
I haven't had any issues :)
Did you already explain why African American studies was your choice of study? If so can you provide the video link?
I haven't yet addressed it formally in a video but have on my website
With teaching and running more than one business, are you doing your PhD part-time?
I am still a full time student :) I’ll advance to candidacy in the upcoming months and next year will be solely focused on archival research and the businesses
I still meet all the requirements for full time enrollment

Can anyone tell me what "body doubling" means in this context?
Working virtually with others studying for motivation and accountability
Similar to studying along with study with me videos but with a group on a set schedule
I just jumped on here. What is your Ph.D in? Literature??
History and African American studies - I focus on the legal history of slavery
ottoman Empire fashion
Not sure what this is referring to in relation to the video but thanks for the engagement
Bad idea: trying to find materials for your literature review using books instead of reviewing the literature.
You do realize books, and the footnotes within them, make up a significant part of "the literature" ?
