You got this Kaelyn and as someone else already told you, the committee -- especially the Chair -- will not let you schedule the examination IF they do not see you capable of passing it ✨I was done with my comps & proposal defense/submission almost 3 years ago after an unexpected delay due to the loss of my original Chair who was a "father-figure" for me and passed due to Cancer situation. It was emotionally, mentally, and academically devastating. I had to rearrange the committee and everything and do the exams when the pandemic hit! So, I understand the stress and pressure of the process well but as mentioned earlier YOU got this "friend"! Be well & Take care 🦋🍀

Working in environmental science - a lot of biologists, me included, deal with anxiety from climate change and people seemingly not listening to concerns from both us and communities. I know it's not the same, but on some emotional level I sympathize with your situation and hope that you find a healthy outlet to work through them at your own pace. Sending love!
it is soooo tough when you are researching extremely heavy subjects, but vital that we don't forget what has happened in the past! Wishing you all the best as you wrap up comp exams and move on to the process of working on your dissertation xx
thanks for discussing the hardships and deep discomfort of researching a difficult subject. As a linguist who focused on Psycholinguistics, I don't have to face this challenge anymore, but I used to when I did my B.A in psychology, and wow it was really hard to have this much material on such heavy subjects. I can now affirm that when the material is not as heavy emotionally, I can do so much more.
Can you please do a video dedicated to your mind mapping process?? Also would still love a bookshelf and artwork tour! Your background is the best! Lastly, thank you for being vulnerable but you are so brilliant and such an inspiration to so many! I know easier said than done but, never doubt yourself!
I would also love to know your mind mapping strategy. Us students always need valuable strategies to work efficiently.
@@alexiapt4939 Agreed!
I have been binge watching your videos lately, and I appreciate your vulnerability in mentioning the imposter syndrome you feel. I am a 2nd year PhD student studying Neuroscience and at the beginning stages of defining my project. Imposter syndrome has peaked my anxiety for the last month, and knowing that I'm not alone is immensely relieving. Thank you for your inspiring content! It has helped me in more ways than one.
I hope your exam went well! I’m in my last year of my master’s and the imposter syndrome is major!! I keep telling myself that there is a reason I was accepted into my program and that reason is because I belong in it and I belong in the field I am going into. I hope you’re taking time for self care :)
Thank you!
Kaelyn you are literally doing so amazing (I saw on your Tik Tok the amazing news about Comps! You make us all so proud!) But to be emotionally exhausted is just beyond valid. Sending nothing but healing and restorative vibes to you.
Thank you for sharing an emotional breakdown! ❤ I find it extremely comforting to know that they are normal during a PhD journey:)
Waiting for your London vlogs😊
Those are all great, important books. I can see how triggering they can be as well. Sending you hugs -you got this.💪❤️
Thank you
I adore your videos but my first comment has to be on how gloriously framed your TV is! I love it!!!
I'm struggling so bad with my motivation today. I needed this video
I can definitely agree with you. Its emotional hard being a historian and then learning all of the history its sad and yet it makes me angry at the same time. I'm in a constant of anger the more I learn.
Thank you for showing all the emotional ups and downs of the PhD journey. Also, I would be interested to know more about the first question you mentioned at the 7:30min mark. Could you please suggest some further readings on the use of biography in the telling of women's histories and the use of biography as a method? This topic sounds fascinating and it is something I am considering looking at with a future Masters thesis. Thank you.
the matcha looks soo good😍
Not the impostor syndrome hitting you hard. Looking back, maybe I was not addressing the impostor syndrome I had and I was so hard on myself once that I burst out crying and couldn’t seem to stop. I did well but just being kinder to myself felt tougher.
The internal dialogue is often the most brutal
I admire you a lot and you inspire me! ❤ Can you please make a video on how to stay focused in life in general? And also do you combat self doubt and self criticism?
Those are some tough topics to cover, and I can see why you are having some difficulty processing them.
We are our own worst critics. I have a major case of imposter syndrome, and sometimes almost let it dictate my educational path. You have done amazing so far, and you will continue to do well.
In Sociology, you have to write about subjects that are deeply triggering (for me sometimes) but it’s hard to compartmentalise/desensitise and not yet have all the FEELZ.
It is one of the most challenging aspects of research in the humanities
Thank you for sharing your bad moments as well, makes it feel like I'm not alone. I just got a big old rejection for an article I wrote and felt pretty devastated. Also, on a brighter note, where is your Birth of Venus jumper from? 😍
11:16 Awwwww this is so sweet!
He's the best
All the best for the exams and have fun in London.
Thank you!
Where did you find the wooden riser for your magic trackpad? Been searching for something like that for ages!
I realized with a jolt that I'm procrastinating my work, so Kaelyn, if you don't mind, I'm going to leave the video unfinished. I'm sure you understand
Go forth and conquer friend
@@KaelynGraceApple I did, thank you
Lmao not the universal terror one feels before presenting something.
lol all the anxieties surfacing
Btw big fan of the Reward Cookie System you have.
Its a game changer
You should post a reading list of the books you recommend for US History, especially Black history.
Yes! I always have some recommendation linked here liinks.co/kaelynapple
I’ve been trying out time blocking and so far it’s been working wonders! Highly recommended
Yes! It works really well (most of the time lol)
more Moo please 😍🤩
Yes!
What color dye do you get done on your roots?
Not sure! My hairstylist is a magician
1:04 No coffee, but here’s a Matcha shot.
P.S. Just happy to see a new beverage featured lol
haha I thought of you when I made that swap
@@KaelynGraceAppleHahaha thanks for the shout out!
Hi Kaelyn, have you ever failed a test. And that test is either or pass or fail No In between? How did you mentally cope with the pressure?
I have failed many tests and classes, especially when I was in community college. If this video is any indication I don’t handle the pressure well 😅
Sorry, maybe it's mentioned in other videos but what is this amazing tablet that's so big and that you can write on??
I use an iPad Pro :) though the standard iPads are just as useful for notetaking! I only have the pro because of photo editing capabilities
What’s the name of the app you utilize to make your writing notes and etc?
Notion and GoodNotes
@@KaelynGraceApple thank you! Where did you purchased your brown leather back pack?
What machine did you use for your matcha?
i use the Nespresso frother
@@KaelynGraceApple thank you 💜
woohoo I'm first!
Yes you are!
Scott Adams was right.
