This is easily the funniest review I've ever seen. That boss being stuck at the top of the stairs, coupled with those clips from 1987 Robocop, literally brought tears outta me!!! 🤣🤣
Yeah. Must have been a painful one. I’d have been happy to drop it and still give it a 2. Fair play for at least trying the patches, but man this is a piss take of a classic.
Back then, the first time you saw the original Flashback in movement, you simply were forced into a mouth agape staring expression. The protagonist's animation by itself could sell the game easily! (Plus the evocative and very inspired cut-scenes as a major bonus...) Yet everything else was just top notch side scrolling gaming for the era, with a satisfying game-play that was mostly set for methodical, tense, and strategic traversing/fighting scenarios. It's such a bummer when beloved milestones and cult classics get treated so poorly with this kind of half baked sequels, with close to no effective use of modern software and hardware, and no visible emphasis on what made the original game special. Thanks for the video!
Flashback 1 and Flashback 2 happen at pretty much the same exact time.. kind of. Flashback 2 SLIGHTLY takes place after Flahback 1, despite both games happening at the same time for the most part, which makes Flashback 2 the actual second game in the series. Fade to Black is actually Flashback 3. The order of the series is now: Flashback, Flashback 2 and Fade to Black (which is now the 3rd game in the timeline, despite being the 2nd released game).
This was a refreshing review to see. All too often nowadays, reviewers seem hesitant to say how they really feel about awful games because they're afraid of being blacklisted for advanced review copies in the future. But this review doesn't pull any punches. WTG IGN.
They clearly put a lot of work into the environments and certain design elements, it’s a shame the rest brought the whole thing down. Rough. Needed another year and some QA testers. And a different voice actor for the lead 😅
If only ign would always give ratings so boldly. Assassin's Creed Mirage - 8; EA Sports FC -7; Cricket 24 - 5; NBA 2K24 - 6; Madden NFL 24 - 6; Immortals of Aveum - 8; Forspoken - 6; Overwatch 2 - 8; Starfield -7.
To be fair those scores seem fair. Giving something 2/10 for forspoken is a huge leap. It’s not great but bad dialouge and story doesn’t instant to 2. You can still traverse the world nice and the powers can be fun people judge too much on peak or trash. Nuance.
Loved FB as a kid, was excited to see this video and the possibility of a cool pt 2… what an epic fail. Please never ruin Another World / Out of this World like this
Positive things this review has accomplished: 1) let me know that this game is garbage and not worth my time and money 2) reminded me of Shadow Complex, which I've since learned has a remastered version on Steam for $15, so now I'm going to buy that for my Steam Deck.
Why in the world do they still make games where you can't FREELY adjust the controls to your liking? I've never liked this Control Scheme A or B-only crap and it's even worse when on PC, where it should be mandatory to REMAP them freely on the keyboard & mouse. This seems to be a nasty trademark from Microids, which I've encountered on the latest TinTin adventure game, 2018 Flashback remaster, and this Flashback 2. Any game that doesn't give that freedom to adjust controls is an automatic pass and a ZERO/10. Even Emulators for old NES, SNES or Sega games give you freedom to adjust the controls in any way you want.
If you bought a refrigerator, house or car in this condition, consumer protections would guarantee your money back and probably end up doing in the company that tried to pass the garbage off. It's criminal that software products can get away with ripping off consumers like this.
Had this on my Steam wishlist for a while. Will promptly be removing it right now. Also, any game devs from Blizzard reading this and want to make a modern Blackthorne, DON'T!
Why do developers even bother releasing games where serious bugs are evident in the first moments of playing? There's no way they didn't see those problems themselves they just decided let's get our money now and deal with the problems later. Disgraceful!
The original was my favourite Sega game this is an insult to the original. The fact that they gave him a hoodie makes me wonder if it was made by a bunch of pot head slackers.
Amazing. Progress stalling bugs like this mean there was like no real play testing done at all. How do you fail so hard at something so simple? Throw the game at someone and tell them to play through it to make sure it's at least possible to do so. Geez.
Wow that was painful to even watch. Thank you for going through everything !! Just received the collector, would love to see a review that didn't need the patches before opening it or return it, as this one is obviously influenced by waiting for those :/
It’s difficult to understand how people freak out on pixel graphic if you have not been living in the moment. However, this game here does not even remember me on the original. Sad.
the original game from 90s really had great ultra futuristic art direction - so much potential. this time it completely fails to produce the exquisite alien feel of the original
Already from the first teasers it was obvious that it was going to be total crap, made from ready-made assets, neural networks generated graphic, designed by an incompetent, cheapest team. Why the surprise? BTW: funny review.
These developers and publishers should be ashamed of themselves!! Us gamers need to start a movement where we refuse to put up w this anymore and then maybe things will change! SMH!!
Gollum, Skull Island, Flashback 2 and CODMWIII. It's like the industry has to balance out against Tears of the Kingdom, Alan Wake 2, Baldurs Gate 3 and Mario Wonder.
It’s sad that a property with genuine heritage, loved by retro gamers and nostalgics is followed by this….lets hope they don’t try to rehash Fade To Black either
wonder if reviewer actually aware if there's already a sequel back on PC/Dreamcast/PS1 called Fade 2 Black, & whether that & this new iteration would be confirmed as canon or not... :?
I'm gutted, loved the 1st one and enjoyed fade to black, didn't know there was a Flashback 2, ordered it on Amazon without reading anything about it.... not even gonna turn it on
It should of been a side scrolling genre game like the first flash back. Why's it so difficult to make a AAA side scrolling game mortal combat and Tekken are the only games that are AAA standard side scrolling. Where's the AAA street of rage and shinobi. Nintendo switch have made some with smash bother, metriod dreed and Mario wonder and sega's new sonic. Top down genre and side scrolling genre don't get many AAA games the best 2 are diablo 4 and mortal combat 1.
You could run through walls and locked doors in the original Amiga version, making the game crash if you came out of bounds. People will feel right at home with Flashback 2, it seems 8P
Currently replaying the original FB and well definitely wasn’t expecting anything ground breaking this 100% filled that 98% chance of a bad game with 20l%
I'm kinda glad this game is as sbroken as it is. It led to a hilarious review which is videogame-comedy at it's best and way funnier than most of those wannabee-funny videogame clips out there. Also: Kudos for enduring this!

Remember Flashback remake from 2013, made by Ubisoft?
Anyone feel that one is unnecessary?
The portraits ARE made with AI. The tell tale signs are all there, trust me.
Fade to Black will always be my Flashback 2.
Fade to Black is literally the sequel to Flashback- What the hell is this game and where did it come from?
This one happens during Flashback 1 and before Fade to Black.
@@nickblomgren This one is a prequel to Fade to Black.
We get the Fade To Black sequel at 2:52

What a shame 😢

This isn't exactly the latest entry in one of those soulless AAA franchises.
The "there's no jammer here" followed by multiple clicks really summarized the experience.
Plot twist, it's really a puzzle game and getting through the bugs is the real objective.
They clearly put a lot of work into the environments and certain design elements, it’s a shame the rest brought the whole thing down. Rough. Needed another year and some QA testers. And a different voice actor for the lead 😅
My exact thoughts, the backgrounds look really nice at times. Suppose that could be the only positive.
Or they just use AI to design for themselves
Tristian's reviews are the best! Triple his wage and have him do all the video reviews.

A damn shame our youthful memories have been ruined by this. Kudos to the reviewer for persevering through it so we don't have to!!!
Yeah! Ioved the old school Flashback, this one here.....meh.
Why would a buggy sequel to one of your beloved games, ruin your memories of it some twenty years later?

heart of the alien (sequel to another world) was alittle glitchy but still amazing imo

When it was announced from Microids, we knew this would be the outcome. They make Gameloft look like Capcom.
We pretending like Flashback didnt already have a sequel in Fade to Black?
The game's existence is worth it, just for the sake of this review. Funny as hell.
So the 16 bit game in the 90s had full cut scenes but the 3D current gen has talking photos? Somebody dropped the ball hard.
Not sure where the budget went

The fact that they gave him a hoodie makes me wonder if it was made by a bunch of pot head slackers.

Look how they massacred my boy 😞 Damn...was waiting for this. Flashback was one of the best Genesis games...
One of my favourite games. But after watch 5 secs not even going to buy it.
It's a bummer seeing this not review well...I really appreciate the creators trying to bring their IP into the current generation.
The original art direction looks beautiful! The new one too, but it must’ve been a triple terrible TTT game for such a low score.
Apparently they used AI for character portraits, and other things throughout the game 🤦 just no..
A pity. OG Flashback was great. However, it's based on "Running Man", the Arnie movie and Stephen King book, not Total Recall.
the boss fight was hillarious hahahha
Awesome Flashback 2 Review Video.
They should have kept the aesthetic from the first one.
