  • Changing the stock rear wheel of the CB500X with spoke wheels using the wheel hub of the CRF250L. CB500X rear disk brake and brake caliper modification to fit the wheel hub of the CRF250L. The new wheel assembly will be a lot lighter than stock. The spoke wheels will be more suited to off road riding.

    If using 17" wheel, you can buy the spokes of the CRF250M which is made for 17" rim. CRF250M is the motard version of the CRF250L.

      Hi. It is possible to use the original forks of the CB500X and put a dirtbike wheel hub for spoke wheel. That may require fabricating custom spacers and wheel axle. For the front wheel, a lot of people here in Thailand simply replace the whole front suspension. That comes with the triple clamps, forks, and of course the the spoked front dirt bike wheel. Have a look at my other videos here. It is a CB500X bike with full front dirtbike suspension just to give you an ides.

    That's a good way to do it, i wouldn't keep the 500x caliper with the cuts though , they'd be some significant forces imposed on a disc thats not a true fit. Each to their own i supose, new subscriber good clip.

    • @DIYPhil
      @DIYPhil  2 роки тому +2

      Thanks. The CRF disk is smaller diameter so I thought it will be less braking power for the CB that is a heavier bike. That is why I keep the CB500X disk. I did mark some reference lines on it to see if it shifted or if anything moved out of place. so far so good

      Hi. It is not a plug and play fit but I'm sure it can be made to work just by madifying the spacers like I did in the video. Probably need to change wheel bearings and seals if the axle is different diameter.

    hahaha DUDE... THANKS for sharing this, I was thinking about it for quiet some time but had no idea both bikes are so similar. I am having them both, the CRF250L since 2013 and the CB500X 2019 since 2019, both great bikes but do NOT hit a pothole with the SHIT Aluminium rims of the CB500X, I damaged my frontwheel and just had it fixed. Will soon change to Spokes THANK YOU and cheers from Thailand

    Hey, very clear video and solution for the pre 2019 500x, mine is a 2017.
    Now a big question for you, did you relocated the mounting point of the swingarm or did you left everything else stock? Ask you because I have seen pictures of 500x's where they drilling new holes in the main frame and weld in new bearings. Also they used the crf swingarm.
    That was for me the point to say...wait till a more easy solution pops up.
    Putting in a crf250l front wheel with the original 250 suspension and triple clamps must be possible to I think.
    BTW in Thailand too 500 kms north of you I think. Close to Nong Bua Lamphu.

    • @DIYPhil
      @DIYPhil  2 роки тому

      Hi. I did not relocate the mounting hole of the swing arm. I think I know what your talking about as I am also looking at the work of some folks in Thailand who fitted the CB500X with the CRF250L swing arm. The reason they relocate the pivot hole for the swing arm is to also fit the CRF250L shock. I'm not in favor of that solution because it will make the wheel base longer. Take a look at some of my other video as I am also building a modified CB500X that is fitted with a CRF250L swing arm. But I go for a different approach. ua-cam.com/video/RYXeHPO8miM/v-deo.html
      Putting a CRF250L front wheel and suspension to the CB500X is possible by modifying the triple clamp. What they also do here is they cut some length of the fork spring so that it get shorter. That will effectively shorten the suspension travel so I am also not in favor of that. I'm just saying what others has done.

    • @bramcornelissen4413
      @bramcornelissen4413 2 роки тому

      Yes I ve seen the other two videos of the 500c Rally project and can't wait for nr 3.
      Have to say that my goal is to make it more sustainable for the Thai roads. 21" front wheel is a must have to fight the potholes and for me the suspension front and rear is the next to be changed. Optional I could fit a spoked 17" rear wheel like I had in my xt660z tenere in my home country, nothing wrong with that unless you want to use it more offroad. Problem with that is a available 50/50 tires in Thailand but that's only a small down point.
      What is the modification on the crf triple clamps that have to be don to make it fit?

    • @DIYPhil
      @DIYPhil  2 роки тому

      @@bramcornelissen4413 If you compare the neck tube of the CRF250L and CB500X, they are different length. So the length of the center shaft on the CRF250L has to be altered to fit the CB500X. I did that having a solid piece of steel machined to tightly fit inside the existing center shaft (because it is hollow) after it has been cut to require length. Then welding the pieces together. Doing this will ensure that the shaft is straight. The upper neck bearing are interchangeable for CRF and CB so no problem with that. The lower neck bearing of the CB500X has lager inside diameter. So I made a bushing to make the CB bearing to fit the CRF. I think I'll show that on the next video. I can personally send you some photos if you reach out to me on facebook Diy Phil.

    will the cb500x wheels fit on the Crf250l?

    • @DIYPhil
      @DIYPhil  2 роки тому +1

      No. it is too wide for the CRF swing arm and forks. But the CB swing arm and forks together with the CB500X wheels can be fitted to the CRF250L. Here is an example:

      Annyeonghaseyo. The diameter of the CRF250L center bolt is slightly smaller than the CB500X. Some folks would insert a bushing so that it fits snugly to the CB500X frame.
